Reflection on Stacie's hypothesis that American Christian beliefs about hierarchy and inequality in the home are negatively affecting the sex lives of evangelicals and others whose ideologies or theologies reject the basic equality of all partners in a sexual relationship. Also a discussion of why people fight at campsites and the conditions in which people can be genuine friends. This season, we're talking about nourishment, and this is a casual investigation into the nourishing role of positive, healthy and non-coercive sexuality. There may be no better illustration of Theology of Motion than the book of Psalms and the singing of God's Word. This episode I sat down with Dr. CJ Armstrong, Dr. Jeff Mallinson, and Jon Jordening to talk about about the Psalms as both a devotional and congregational book. We discuss the Psalms as they are used by Jesus, monastic Christians, French Huguenots, and even Isaac Watts. Join us for a discussion of what Richard Hanson calls “one of the most significant collections of literature ever compiled...by any people.” Show Notes - Lutheranism vs. Calvinism: The Classic Debate at the Colloquy of Montbéliard, 1586 - Sexy: The Quest for Erotic Virtue in Perplexing Times
Often the Church is viewed as a regressive entity, calling for unrealistic expectations when it comes to human sexuality. On the topic of sex, the message from the church is that it's a gift reserved only for marriage so make sure you save yourself until then. The message from culture is one of transaction, consent and making sure that you get yours. Is there a better way to view love and sex? Join Pastors Sam and Caleb as they talk with Dr. Jeff Mallinson, Professor of Theology and Philosophy at Concordia University in Irvine, CA and author of Sexy: The Quest for Erotic Virtue in Perplexing Times. At the core of the conversation is a discussion of what love is, the type of love God has for us and the love that we're called to demonstrate to the world. Topics also include purity culture, a system of Gospel-Law-Gospel, how to love our spouses better and even Dr. Dre. So, grab a drink, pull up a seat, and join us at The Table as we talk about Sexual Ethics. Connect with Jeff Mallinson: Twitter @wayfarerjeff @taosurfers

My guest is Jeff Mallinson. Jeff is Associate Professor of Theology and Philosophy at Concordia University, Irvine, a 1517 Thinking Fellow, and Co-Host of the Virtue in the Wasteland podcast. His newest book is Sexy: The Quest for Erotic Virtue in Perplexing Times. (https://www.amazon.com/Sexy-Quest-Erotic-Virtue-Perplexing/dp/1945500794) In it he asks what would happen if we reframed contemporary conversations about sexuality altogether? Instead of focusing on taboos, boundaries, and rules of sexual engagement, what if we let holy desire seduce people back to erotic virtue? Special Guest: Jeff Mallinson.
