October 3, 2023 marks ten years since the passing of Pastor Chuck Smith, who was the man God used to start the Calvary Chapel Movement of churches. In this bonus episode, Nick Cady speaks with Brian Brodersen about Chuck Smith's approach to ministry, including some questions about how Chuck pastored personally, what were challenges and struggles he faced in ministry, and what were the major influences that shaped Chuck's theology, and his preaching. Pastor Brian is uniquely qualified to speak to these questions, as he not only served alongside Pastor Chuck and eventually succeeded him as the senior pastor of Calvary Chapel of Costa Mesa, but he also shares close family ties to Pastor Chuck, as his son in law. We'd love to hear feedback from you on these episodes. You can email us at cgn@calvarychapel.com
It's been nearly 45 years ago that I attended a jazz concert sponsored by a Sacramento area church. I was invited to it by my boss, Jim. I had been working for him for a year or two at the Magic Tunnel Car Wash. It was at that concert that Jim's life, shaped as it was by his love for Jesus, came to make sense to me. When someone asked me why I'd come forward at the end of the concert, my answer was simply, “I want what Jim has.” It was that simple focus on Jesus in Jim's life and in that little community that drew me into a new way of living and, eventually, into the vocational focus of my life. And refocusing on Jesus along my journey has been what has renewed me, even revived me, when my life began to feel heavy, or wayward, or empty. All of this is why I'm so happy to be talking with Todd Hunter, my bishop and my friend, about his new book What Jesus Intended: Finding True Faith in the Rubble of Bad Religion. Doesn't that title speak to where so many of us find ourselves these days? The Rt. Rev. Dr. Todd Hunter is the founder of The Center for Formation, Justice and Peace. He is past president of Alpha USA, former national director for the Association of Vineyard Churches, and retired founding pastor of Holy Trinity Anglican Church in Costa Mesa, CA. He is the author of many books, including Christianity Beyond Belief: Following Jesus for the Sake of Others, Giving Church Another Chance, Our Character at Work and Deep Peace. He writes a weekly newsletter, The Gospel of the Kingdom, that you can find on Substack. Todd also happens to be my bishop and my friend. _________________________________________________________Connect with Alan on LinkedIn or learn more about Unhurried Living programs on their website.

Join us for a thought-provoking episode of the Schofield Chiropractic Training podcast, where your hosts, Dr. FJ Schofield and Dr. Fred Schofield, roll up their sleeves and dive deep into the often-overlooked, but critically important, world of chiropractic business. As chiropractors, it's not just about the art of adjustment; it's about understanding the financial health of your practice. In this candid conversation, we challenge the status quo with fundamental questions: Do you truly know your overhead? Do you grasp the actual cost of providing an adjustment? Are you aware of the expenses associated with acquiring a New Patient? Or are your fees determined by what the town down the street is charging? Intriguingly, we explore the timing aspect of practice management. Do you bring in enough revenue to comfortably cover your overhead, and is it a stressful 28th-day scramble or a smoothly managed 10th-day accomplishment? Understanding these financial dynamics can make all the difference in your practice's sustainability and your peace of mind. But it's not all about the numbers. We also emphasize the concept of Taking INTELLIGENT action. You may have all the tools and knowledge at your disposal, but it's the implementation that truly counts. What value are you delivering to your patients, and how does this align with your practice's mission? This episode is a must-listen for chiropractors seeking to build not only successful but sustainable practices. We'll equip you with insights into financial awareness, pricing strategies, and the transformative power of delivering value. Tune in and discover the keys to unlocking the full potential of your chiropractic practice. Remember, it's not just about the adjustment; it's about knowing the business of chiropractic inside and out. Join us on this journey to elevate your practice to new heights. Note: Success in chiropractic practice extends beyond clinical skills; it requires a keen understanding of business fundamentals, pricing, and delivering exceptional value to patients. Welcome everyone to another episode featuring the "Man of the Hour" and arguably the most comedic Head Coach in the history of rowing, Mr. Chris Clark, Director of Rowing at the University of Wisconsin. The former Head Coach of the Badgers Men's Rowing Team, Clark cemented himself as a legend in the rowing world. His overall demeanor, way of communicating and being to the point, is unlike any other. This man has absolutely no fear. A man of dignity, Coach Clark emphasizes the importance of team culture, the brute force of power needed to propel a rowing shell, and laying down the basics to affirm success on the water, as he once learned as a walk-on for the Pirates at Orange Coast College. OCC, most commonly known as Coast, a two-year junior college in sunny Costa Mesa, California, the men of OCC train down in Newport Beach, where Clark first took his rows as a young man, advancing himself to row for a year at Stanford Men's Rowing, then transferring across the way to the University of California, Berkeley where he completed his collegiate rowing career. Eventually rowing for the United States National Team, Clark knew that somehow along the lines he was meant to coach rowing, leading him to coach at the US Naval Academy, and then entering the doors of Porter Boathouse, calling it home since then. This podcast is one for the books, not only was it filmed in Coach Clark's legendary "mobile office" away from the wife and kids, and the boathouse entirely... it was on the side of the road, as he believed has better internet connection. We discuss the state of the recent World Championships in Belgrade, influence of Steve Gladstone, coaching Beau Hoopman, coxswains on the team, the walk-on culture at Wisco, becoming the new Director of Wisconsin Rowing from being the former Head Coach of the Men's Rowing team for many years, answering the posted "Q&A's", how to establish a team that is fully invested with one sole purpose, along with more topics. Stay tuned, sit back, and listen to intelligence. Welcome to Season 3 of the MoChihChu Podcast! In this episode, Rhino coaches Dr. FJ and Dr. Fred, talk about the biggest threat to long term success: BURNOUT Success is often measured by its sustainability over the long term. Burnout, by its nature, is not sustainable. It can lead to premature practice burnout, causing individuals to reach their peak potential earlier than they might have otherwise, and potentially resulting in a downward spiral in terms of career achievements and even home life. Burnout can lead to disengagement and a lack of motivation. Over time, this can hinder an individual's practice and home life, limiting their opportunities for long-term success. Burnout can also lead to dissatisfaction, prompting individuals to retire early, sell their practice, or even make a career changes. Check out today's episode to learn some tactics that both Dr. Fred and Dr. FJ implement to maintain and manage their energy in practice and at home! Interested in coaching with us? PODCAST - LISTEN, WATCH, AND SUBSCRIBE https://linktr.ee/TransitionDrillPodcast In this episode of the Transition Drill podcast I delve into the life and career transitions of Gary Faust, a former law enforcement officer. The conversation begins with a nostalgic look back at his upbringing in Orange County, where he was influenced by his father's dedication to law enforcement in Santa Ana. His mother, too, had a stint in the police department, making it almost inevitable for him to be drawn to the profession. As he reminisces about his early exposure to the world of policing through ride-alongs with his father, he acknowledges the profound impact it had on his decision to pursue a career in law enforcement. Gary retired in 2014 after 27 years between the Garden Grove and Huntington Beach Police Departments. However, the narrative takes a turn when the topic shifts to life after police work. After serving diligently and rising to the rank of Lieutenant, he began contemplating what to do after retiring from law enforcement. An unexpected passion for wine, ignited by a wine class at the Montage in Laguna Beach, set him on a new path. This newfound interest led him to Hi-Time Wine Cellars in Costa Mesa, where he transitioned from being a police officer to becoming a knowledgeable wine salesperson and eventually a French wine buyer. The transition wasn't without its challenges, as the wine industry initially seemed skeptical about what a former cop could bring to the table. However, with persistence and passion, he carved a niche for himself. The podcast underscores the importance of adaptability and the courage to pursue new interests, even after a fulfilling career in a demanding field like law enforcement. It serves as an inspiration for those contemplating leaving law enforcement for a new career and emphasizes that it's never too late to chase a new dream or passion. The story is a testament to the endless possibilities that await after hanging up the badge and the importance of finding a new purpose post-retirement.
