John is a retired scientist who worked for the UK government and several universities as a research manager. He discovered how “the Money Power” controls academic research, paradigms and teaching content, particularly in economics, political science and history, and, increasingly, natural sciences and medicine.Kris, Richard and John discuss alternative history, a la TRAGEDY AND HOPE, the 1966 textbook by Carrol Quigley, who was trained by a Rhodes scholar, and who, as a professor of foreign service at Georgetown University, trained Rhodes scholar Bill Clinton. There has been a lot of Rhodes scholar influence in America for a long time. So, who was Cecil Rhodes?Rhodes, a Brit and a Freemason, was funded by Lord Rothschild to work in South Africa, where he took over the diamond field of a farmer named DeBeers. Rhodes made John Ruskin's dream of the British Empire taking over the world his life's work. A necessary step toward that goal was bringing America back into the Empire.In his Rhodes will set up a scholarship at Oxford University to teach students from around the world this idea of British domination. This leads to the creation of World War I and how America was brought into the war and transformed into a military state.Jim Macgregor and Gerry Docherty wrote HIDDEN HISTORY: The Secret Origins of the First World War. When their publisher wouldn't publish the second volume, Kris Millegan of TrineDay did. It's called PROLONGING THE AGONY: How the Anglo-American Establishment deliberately extended World War 1 by Three and a Half Years.Quigley learned all this from a whistleblower and in 1948 wrote THE ANGLO-AMERICAN ESTABLISHMENT, which he instructed to be published after his death, so it came out in 1981. (It has the details of this plot to recapture America and conquer the world.) Quigley also studied the Council of Foreign Relations (CFR) records for 18 years, then wrote TRAGEDY AND HOPE, which came out in 1966.TRAGEDY AND HOPE 101 by Joseph Plummer is a tight summary of both Quigley books (TRAGEDY AND HOPE and THE ANGLO-AMERICAN ESTABLISHMENT). Basically, the Brits are using America's military as the property manager for what used to be the British Empire.The British were in Afghanistan for over one hundred years for the opium and then they handed that off to the Americans. We pay tax dollars to have our military bases all around the world. We did not start as an empire, getting into other people's business. We got seduced into excursions like the Spanish-American War, which led us to join the plan to dominate the world.John O'Dowd: Economics as taught at universities and taken into politics and the business world is a myth. It's designed to make money go from the bottom to the top, which is one of reasons we're in the mess that we're in. It makes sense on paper, but it doesn't refer to anything in real life.To really understand economics, you must read books like ECONOMISTS AND THE POWERFUL: Convenient Theories, Distorted Facts, Ample Rewards, and THE BUBBLE AND BEYOND: Fictitious Capital, Debt Inflation and Global Crisis by Michael Hudson.Richard: Mainstream economics works backward. It doesn't start with free market capitalism. It starts with slavery and black markets, and then Adam Smith and other East India Company people are added to put a shine and polish on the slavery.

After close to three decades of the hegemony of free market ideas, the state has made a big comeback as an economic actor since the 2008 financial crisis. China's state-owned companies and international financial institutions have made headlines for their growing influence in the world economy. State-backed investment vehicles based in the Gulf states have made high-profile investments in global real estate markets and professional sports, while their state-owned firms have become world leaders in the logistics and natural resource sectors. Governments around the world – including in the heartlands of advanced capitalism – have promoted the interests of ‘national champion' companies in strategic economic sectors, bailed out financial institutions by taking toxic assets off of their balance sheets, and implemented industrial policies with the aim of moving into the most profitable segments of global value chains. What accounts for this renewed prominence of states in global capitalism? Does the increased activism of states mark the end of neoliberal hegemony? And how do contemporary state-led economic initiatives compare to the heyday of Keynesian and developmentalist policy agendas in the decades immediately following World War II? The book that we are discussing today, The Spectre of State Capitalism (Oxford UP, 2024) by Ilias Alami and Adam Dixon, marks the culmination of a highly productive research project that the authors have led on the compulsions and constraints that shape the ‘new' state capitalism. The book aims to challenge narratives that pathologize state capitalism as an authoritarian deviation from the ‘normal' course of free market capitalism while also showing how new forms of state activism depart from earlier models of state-led development. Ilias Alami is a University assistant professor in the political economy of development at Cambrdige University. His previous book is Money Power and Financial Capital in Emerging Markets (2019). The second person charged in the deaths of Tylee Ryan, JJ Vallow, and Tammy Daybell is now in court. Chad Daybell, husband of Cult Mom Lori Vallow, facing the same charges as his wife and more. Shortly after her husband Charles Vallow's shooting death, Lori Vallow moves with her two children to Rexburg, Idaho. It's not far from where Chad Daybell, Vallow's lover and “husband from a past life” resides with his wife Tammy Daybell. Tylee Ryan and J.J. Vallow settle in, making a trip to Yellowstone National Park with their mom and uncle Alex Cox. A photo from that trip is the last proof of Tylee's life, and weeks later, J.J. Vallow stops going to school. Meanwhile, Vallow and Daybell spend more time together. The couple is seen loading a storage unit with Vallow's children's belongings. A month passes, and suddenly Daybell's wife Tammy is dead. Two weeks later, Lori Vallow is now Lori Vallow-Daybell after a wedding ceremony on a Kauai beach. Chad Daybell's wife Tammy Daybell dies in her sleep at the age of 49. Friends were shocked by her death, saying that Tammy was incredibly fit. The mom of five was training for a marathon and regularly attended high-intensity exercise classes with friends. However, Chad Daybell painted a very different story of his wife's health. He said Tammy Daybell was sickly, always coughing, and struggling with low blood pressure that led to fainting spells. Daybell said on the night of her death, Tammy Daybell had a coughing fit that led her to vomit. He helped her to bed and was startled awake when Tammy rolled onto the floor. Daybell says when he checked on her, he realized Tammy was dead. Fremont County Coroner, Brenda Dye, took Daybell's account of his wife's health into consideration when she ruled Tammy Daybell's cause of death to be pulmonary edema due to a cardiac event without performing an autopsy. By June of 2020, detectives are narrowing down what happened to J.J. Vallow and Tylee Ryan since their disappearance nearly six months earlier. Lori Vallow-Daybell is behind bars on two felony charges of Desertion & Nonsupport of Dependent Children after failing to produce Tylee and J.J. in court on January 30. On April 9, police announce their suspicion that Vallow and Vallow-Daybell conspired to kill Tammy Daybell. Rexburg Police return to Chad Daybell's home for another search. While Daybell is detained, investigators uncover human remains in a pet cemetery in Daybell's backyard. The remains are later confirmed to be J.J. Vallow and Tylee Ryan.
