Fred from The Subarctic Alaska Sasquatch YouTube channel is back, and you can see more of Fred's stuff by clicking the link below. In this episode, Fred shares two unsettling accounts of suspected “hairy man” encounters from the remote Alaskan wilderness. The first involves Don and Tina, a couple hired to operate a gold mine along the Koyukuk River. During a stretch of heavy rain, large rocks began slamming into their loud mining equipment from somewhere beyond the tree line. Don briefly chased a dark figure into the woods, while Tina later witnessed an enormous humanoid silhouette moving nearby. The situation escalated the following morning when the figure appeared dangerously close to their camp. Tina fired a shotgun into the air, and the couple retreated to their cabin before seeking help from a neighboring miner. He revealed that he had experienced similar harassment in the area. Despite the mine producing good gold, Don and Tina decided the money was not worth the risk and quit. Fortunately, the owner treated them fairly and paid them for their work.Fred then rshares Daniel's experience while trout fishing along the Tickchik River roughly twenty-five years ago. While waiting near a thick stand of willows, Daniel became overwhelmed by the feeling that something was watching him. After firing warning shots, he spotted a tall, black humanoid silhouette standing near the brush. Moments later, the figure crashed through the vegetation and disappeared. In a bizarre twist on the usual way government decisions are made, a Colorado agency is considering a ban on the commercial sale of fur from animals like beavers, coyotes, and bobcats. But here's the thing: the agency's own director says there's no scientific evidence that the current hunting practices are causing a population decline. So why are they pushing for the ban? And what's really behind this decision? This episode delves into the world of wildlife management in Colorado, where a proposed rule change has sparked controversy. The speaker takes a closer look at the facts and figures behind the ban, and what's really driving the decision-making process. From the agency's own data to the public's response, this episode explores the complexities of regulating wildlife in the state. The Colorado Parks and Wildlife Commission is set to consider two proposals to restrict the commercial sale of fur, but the agency's own director has recommended denying the ban. The speaker argues that the decision is not based on science, but rather on perceptions and politics. The episode also touches on the economic impact of the ban, which could affect rural communities that rely on fur harvesting as a source of income. If you're interested in learning more about this fascinating story and the behind-the-scenes politics of wildlife management in Colorado, tune in to this episode to hear the speaker's take on the issue.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Fred from The Subarctic Alaska Sasquatch YouTube channel is back with a disturbing collection of Alaska “Hairy Man” encounters and a message for anyone carrying a story they have been afraid to tell. He urges people to love their families, check on their people, and stop suffering in silence, especially when fear of ridicule keeps them from talking about something they cannot explain. Fred makes it clear that witnesses can reach out anonymously, without judgment, and that sometimes simply being heard is the first step toward making sense of what happened. The episode begins with Kathy's unsettling account from the Kenai Peninsula in the 1990s.What started as a strange disturbance near a neighbor's home turned into something far more disturbing when the neighbor found his rabbits headless and neatly lined up with no visible blood. His chickens were gone, firewood had been thrown impossible distances, and a nailed board had been ripped loose and dragged away with enough force to leave him convinced that something powerful had come through the property. The neighbor did not call it an animal. He called it a monster.Fred then shares a more recent report from Walter, Bernice, and their adult son Michael, who were traveling near the Taylor Highway close to Mosquito Fork when they encountered three enormous beings, each estimated around nine feet tall, with what appeared to be tails. As the family tried to document what they were seeing, their cameras and phones reportedly died without warning. Moments later, rocks began striking their toy hauler, and the situation escalated until Michael fired a shot so they could get away. The episode also includes another chilling encounter from the Matanuska River area, where a camping trip was interrupted by screams, a foul odor, strange guttural chatter, and the sight of a large upright figure moving near camp. The experience was so frightening that the witness stopped camping altogether afterward.Through each account, Fred returns to the same point: Alaska is full of stories people have kept quiet for too long, and those witnesses deserve a place to speak without being mocked, dismissed, or ignored.Subarctic Alaska Sasquatch Youtube ChannelEmail BrianJoin Our FREE NewsletterGet Brian's Books Leave Us A VoicemailVisit Our WebsiteBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/sasquatch-odyssey--4839697/support.Have you had a Bigfoot encounter, Sasquatch sighting, Dogman experience, or other cryptid or paranormal encounter? Art is hairy, art is context, art is beauty and ..... art is big butts!?In this episode, I dive into 'Get the Picture' by Bianca Bosker, a 2024 book that explores the contemporary art world from the inside. Bosker approaches it through immersive journalism, working as a gallery assistant, art fair staffer, studio helper, museum guard and briefly as an artist herself. What I found most compelling was how the book uses those experiences to wrestle with the big questions: what counts as art, whether art is about beauty or context and how much of the industry is driven by genuine appreciation versus status, money and insider games. I talk through the parts of the book that felt especially grotesque to me — the pretension, the coded language, the collector ego, and the sense that access and reputation often matter more than the work itself.Thankfully, the book also shows a far more meaningful side of art. I discuss the sections that felt uplifting and enlightening, especially Bosker's time with artists, collectors and museum guards who engage deeply with artworks and encourage slow, personal looking rather than outsourced interpretation. That side of the book helped me understand why art still matters and why people are drawn to it so powerfully. Overall, I came away feeling that the art world isn't inherently broken so much as structurally lopsided, with highly passionate creators often vulnerable to exploitation. I really enjoyed Bosker's writing, admired the depth of her reporting and would recommend to give it a read. Today, we tackle a reoccuring question from lots of people in a feminization journey or sissy training program. It's about body hair. There are various ways to say it but this seems to sum it up: “Mistress, can I be a genuine sissy girl if I'm hairy?”Mistress Erika noticed something online that inspired the episode. Several of our girls posted photos in pantyhose. They looked stunning. Then they apologized for their hairy legs. That sparked a conversation in our adult social networking site, Enchantrix Empire. We knew we had to go deeper because many of our listeners were feeling the same conflict. Some of the topics include:Does a sissy always need to be smooth? Will a Femdom Mistress want every feminization journey to include shaving all body hair? What does shaving represent to you? Could this be a feminization ritual that helps to switch from male to female? What do we recommend if you have a partner who discovers your crossdressing secret and forbids the razor? What if you want to be femme but you love your beard? We use comments from ladies we know who share their thoughts, experiences, and worries about body hair. While we preach self acceptance, we know that can be difficult with pop culture and porn stereotypes about beauty standards. Our friend Genie delivers the truth: “Nothing on the outside changes the inside. You do not feel like a woman until you accept it internally.”Remember, we are available for personalized sessions on sissy training, feminization wisdom, and distance domination dynamics. Fred from the Subarctic Alaska Sasquatch YouTube channel is back, and this time he brings two encounters rooted deep in the Copper River Valley and the gold country of Alaska's interior. The first comes from a man we'll call Travis, an Ahtna man with family ties down the Copper River Valley who saved for years to carve out a small homestead on a five-acre piece of native allotment land.Three years ago, on the third morning of an early trip with his wife, the couple's coffee was interrupted by a grunt and then a growl that seemed to come from every direction. What Travis first took for a bear turned out to be something far stranger, peering over ten-foot alders from twenty-five yards out. His wife saw it clearly first, describing a caveman-like figure with dark grayish-black skin, black eyes, a broad flat nose with downward-facing nostrils, and a strange blondish-red coat of hair. What followed was a two-day siege, with multiple creatures circling the cabin, jiggling the door handle, throwing rocks onto the roof, and fixating on Travis's wife, who reported hearing one of them telling her to come over in her own head. Rifle shots, a near-decision to burn the tree line, a sleepless night, and a tense armed extraction with friends the next morning all play out before they finally reach their ATVs and escape. Travis has returned since, learning from the previous owners that activity reliably picked up twice a year, every spring and fall. The second story reaches back to the spring of 1946 and comes from an Ahtna elder we'll call Tyler, passed down across a lifetime from his father, Tyler Senior. Set in the gold country near what would later become the Taylor Highway at Mosquito Creek, in an area then known as Forty Mile, the account follows Tyler Senior and two cousins working a small claim. After days with no wildlife stirring, the harassment began with strange whoops, whistles, and pigeon-like cooing from the tree line, then escalated to rocks thrown with painful accuracy, a wrung-off caribou head and a stripped hindquarter lobbed into camp, and a black silhouette swaying at the edge of the firelight. Heavily armed with old-school large-bore rifles, the men fired volley after volley at a creature that ran through their fire, scattered the embers, and seemed to vanish each time they shot. By the time multiple siren-like screams answered one another up and down the valley before dawn, the men packed up and abandoned the operation for good. The lesson Tyler Senior carried and passed down was simple and consistent: you never engage the bushman, you leave, because if you don't, it doesn't stop.Visit Subarctic Alaska Sasquatch YouTube ChannelEmail BrianGet Our FREE NewsletterGet Brian's Books Leave Us A VoicemailVisit Our WebsiteBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/sasquatch-odyssey--4839697/support.Have you had a Bigfoot encounter, Sasquatch sighting, Dogman experience, or other cryptid or paranormal encounter? Today we're diving into something we use every day - our voice. Most of us are walking around with an unconscious default voice that's been patched together from old stories, childhood wounds, cultural expectations, and whatever got us through the day. But what if that voice isn't really you?Meet Barbara McAfee - voice whisperer, author, singer, and playful catalyst for authentic expression. For more than three decades, Barbara has helped people shed vocal habits shaped by old stories and step into voices that feel truly like home. Through sound, story, character work, and her Five Elements system, she makes voice liberation both profound and ridiculously fun. She's a master voice coach, bestselling author of Full Voice and Vocal Intelligence, and dynamic speaker whose two TEDx talks - including the widely viewed “Bringing Your Full Voice to Life” - have inspired hundreds of thousands of people worldwide. Her work has reached leaders, organizations, international educators, community singing movements, and countless individuals through keynotes, retreats, coach trainings, and her beloved Morning Star Singers hospice choir.Barbara, in so many ways, graces us with her presence on The Junkyard Love Podcast to remind us that our voice is the primary way we shape our world.Your voice is the instrument that shapes your expression on the way out. What we really 'mean' is upstream of the voice, and how we express what we really mean is changed by the voice - our life is lived downstream of our ability to express ourselves. Our expressions are interpreted by one another through an infinite number of micro movements, frequencies, rhythms, pheromones, sensory perceptions, biological responses, and so many more - but our voices carry truths even our own conscious perception can't filter out. Barbara shares that our voices are often shaped by past traumas, survival strategies, cultural pressure, and old stuck identities - and she teaches us how to release those unconscious holds in our physical body, allowing the voice to open and flow without restraint. In this back-and-forth conversation, we cover how most of us are unconsciously wearing what Barbara calls a “vocal girdle” - that invisible tightness and restriction we build over years from old wounds, family expectations, and cultural pressure that keeps our voice smaller and safer than it wants to be. She shares how we can gently loosen and remove it through her joyful Five Elements framework (Earth, Fire, Water, Metal, and Air), by playing with characters and archetypes, and through simple, everyday practices like laughing through the different sounds, voicing your yawns, and reading children's books out loud. We also explore the magic of group singing, the power of pretending to be someone else, code-switching with awareness, and why freeing your voice changes so much more than just how you sound - it changes how you show up in every part of your life.If you've ever felt like your voice doesn't quite match who you really are inside, this conversation is full of heart, laughter, insight, and practical tools you can start using right away - to start speaking with your real voice.Key Topics Covered:Unconscious vocal habits and the “vocal girdle” most of us wearHow childhood experiences and trauma shape our voiceThe Five Elements Framework for vocal freedomPlaying characters and archetypes to access hidden parts of yourselfThe power of group singing and collective connectionPractical daily tools to open and strengthen your voiceCode switching, ego, and authentic flexibilityVoice work for leaders, creatives, and everyday lifeChapter Timestamps (YouTube & Podcast Platforms)00:00 – Why Most People Are Stuck in an Unconscious “Default” Voice00:58 – The “Vocal Girdle”: How Old Wounds and Expectations Restrict Us02:13 – How Childhood Trauma and Family Secrets Shape Your Voice Long-Term04:10 – The Five Elements Framework (Earth, Fire, Water, Metal, Air) Explained05:40 – Barbara's Personal Story: Overcoming Fear of Singing Solo08:32 – The Secret Power of Playing Characters and Archetypes13:38 – Ego, “Brain Rats,” and Gently Expanding Beyond Your Comfort Zone22:55 – Practical Voice Tools for Leaders, Presentations, and Difficult Conversations30:29 – The Magic of Group Singing and Deep Human Connection34:05 – Jacob's Wild DJ Story: Unifying Experiences and Collective Flow40:06 – Laugh, Yawn & Read Children's Books: Easy Daily Practices to Open Your Voice46:26 – Code Switching: Shifting Voices Authentically Across Situations55:12 – Why Humans Crave Collective Ecstasy and Group Singing01:01:40 – Barbara's Books, Music, and Life's Work01:12:45 – Current Retreats, Courses, and What's Next for Barbara01:17:01 – Final Wisdom and Closing ReflectionsLearn practical voice exercises and how to speak with more confidence and authenticity.Key Quotes from Barbara“Most of us are using our kind of unconscious default voice that we think is us, but it's not. Fred from the Subarctic Alaska Sasquatch YouTube Channel returns to the show with two chilling reported encounters from the Alaskan wilderness, each involving a large, aggressive, humanlike creature and witnesses forced to flee under terrifying circumstances. In the first account, Timothy, an aspiring bush pilot, flies from Anchorage to Big Lake in June before continuing by floatplane to a remote pond near a friend's cabin. While hiking a ridge late in the evening — despite the lingering daylight near 11 p.m. — Timothy is overcome by an intense feeling of unease. Moments later, he sees trees violently shaking, hears guttural clicks and eerie cackling sounds, and spots a massive dark figure he estimates to be 13 to 14 feet tall. The encounter escalates when the creature appears to throw the top half of a spruce tree in his direction. Timothy fires his shotgun, then empties his .44 Magnum at what he describes as a crouched, spider-crawling mass. The figure suddenly rises to its full height, lets out a horrifying scream, and Timothy makes a desperate escape back to his floatplane. The second account comes from brothers Derek and James, who describe a frightening 1979 trip along Alaska's Snake River. While traveling through dense fog, they hear a powerful whoop and soon see a dark shape rise up into a massive bipedal form. The encounter intensifies as rocks are thrown and the creature begins making strange, motor-like imitation sounds, forcing the brothers to flee. Family members later refer to the being as a “hairy man.”.Be sure to check out Fred's incredible work on the Subarctic Alaska Sasquatch YouTube Channel by clicking the link below and exploring more of his videos.Subarctic Alaska Sasquatch YouTubeEmail BrianGet Our FREE NewsletterGet Brian's Books Leave Us A VoicemailVisit Our WebsiteBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/sasquatch-odyssey--4839697/support.Have you had a Bigfoot encounter, Sasquatch sighting, Dogman experience, or other cryptid or paranormal encounter? In this not-episode, Madelyn and Emma talk about hair in video games and the types of styles they wish they could pull off in real life. Also featuring the perils of clipping, Sephiroth's hair routine, and where games still need to improve on the subject of hair.
In this episode, Bill is joined by Mia Overnas and Carola from GroomerDK UK to talk about their upcoming book, The Hairy Universe of Hand Stripping.Together, they explore why hand stripping is such an important but often misunderstood grooming technique, and why it is at risk of becoming a dying art. Mia and Carola share the inspiration behind the book, the knowledge gaps they see in the grooming industry, and why understanding the science behind coat care can give groomers more confidence with both dogs and their owners. The conversation covers everything from coat anatomy, genetics, common myths, pricing hand stripping properly, working with breeders, managing client expectations, and why groomers need reliable education rather than just opinion-led advice from social media.Whether you are a groomer wanting to build confidence with hand stripping, an owner of a hand-stripped breed, or simply passionate about preserving specialist grooming skills, this episode is packed with insight, encouragement, and plenty of “don't panic” moments. To order the book on release visit their website or the Great British Bookshop and https://groomerdkusa.com/ (US Purchases)As always, I'd like to thank the podcast sponsor, Lopay, the low-cost payment platform that helps you keep more of the money you earn. You can find out more and sign up for Lopay here:https://merchant.lopay.app/ref/PETPASSION2500Listeners of this podcast get £2500 of fee-free transactions. And if you'd like support building a stronger, more profitable grooming business, visit:https://petpassiontoprofit.com/

In this episode, Fred from the Subarctic Alaska Sasquatch YouTube Channel speaks by phone with Patquah, an Inupiaq man originally from Utqiagvik who has spent years living in the Noatak River Valley.Their conversation explores subsistence living in Arctic Alaska, the nomadic history of the Inupiaq people, and the oral traditions passed down through generations to help hunters, travelers, and families understand the dangers of the land.Patquah shares accounts of strange lights, unexplained wilderness phenomena, and traditional warnings about “little people” said to inhabit remote areas of Alaska. These stories include descriptions of foot-tall mountain beings with red eyes and unusual strength, as well as child-sized figures wearing pointed hoods. Rather than framing these traditions as simple folklore or superstition, Patquah explains how elders used these stories as practical survival knowledge, teaching younger generations to respect the land, pay attention to signs, and avoid becoming careless in dangerous country. The conversation then turns to a recent and unsettling experience from April 21, 2026, during a snowmachine hunting trip near the Noatak–Kivalina trail in Northwest Alaska. While traveling through the area, Patquah heard a powerful, echoing scream that seemed to carry across the landscape and left him with the strong feeling that he was being watched. The following day, as weather conditions worsened and he and two companions briefly became disoriented, they spotted a large, dark, hairy figure sitting on a ridge. After viewing it through binoculars, the group chose to leave the area rather than approach.Patquah later learned that relatives and other hunters had reported similar screams and sightings in the region, adding another layer to an already compelling account. This episode blends Inupiaq oral tradition, Alaska Native cultural history, remote wilderness survival, and a modern hairy man encounter from the Mulgrave Hills and Noatak River Valley region.Click the link below to visit Fred's Subarctic Alaska Sasquatch YouTube Channel for more incredible encounter stories, traditional accounts, and unexplained experiences from the wilds of Alaska.Subarctic Alaska Sasquatch YouTube ChannelEmail BrianGet Our FREE NewsletterGet Brian's Books Leave Us A VoicemailVisit Our WebsiteBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/sasquatch-odyssey--4839697/support.Have you had a Bigfoot encounter, Sasquatch sighting, Dogman experience, or other cryptid or paranormal encounter? Welcome to stop three on the Backwoods Cryptid Road Trip. Tonight we're climbing up onto one of the most overlooked Sasquatch landscapes in the country, the Mogollon Rim of central and eastern Arizona, a two-hundred-mile shelf of stone where the Colorado Plateau drops off into the Sonoran Desert and ponderosa pine country meets red rock canyon. It's a place most people don't picture when they hear the word Bigfoot, and that's exactly what makes it so interesting.Because for as long as anyone in Arizona has been keeping records, witnesses have been coming down off that Rim with the same story. Something big up there. Something fast. Something that screams across whole canyons and watches camps from the tree line and throws rocks into fire rings in the middle of the night. We open the episode the way the Rim opens most of its stories, with a quiet camp and four experienced campers who realize, all at once, that the forest around them has gone silent. From there we build the history of the country itself, how the Rim got its name, why the Apache-Sitgreaves and the Coconino and the Tonto national forests stack together to make one of the largest unbroken pieces of timber and wilderness in the lower forty-eight, and how the Mogollon Monster legend traces back well before statehood, into the oral traditions of the people who knew that country first. Then we get into the encounters.A guide and his horseback hunters running into something on a ridge in the Apache-Sitgreaves that didn't react to them the way an animal is supposed to react. A family at an established campground hearing something walk a deliberate circle around their tent at one in the morning, twice, and finding a track in the duff at first light. A solo bow hunter sitting in a tree stand while something stands fifteen feet below him and breathes.A five-man hunt camp that loses a night to rocks on the canvas, a dog that won't get off the floorboard for a week, and a track measurement that no one in the group has been able to explain since. A Forest Service employee with thirty years on the Apache-Sitgreaves who heard something one summer afternoon that nobody at the office wanted to write down. And a couple driving home from Big Lake on State Route 260 who watched something step backward off the shoulder of the highway and clear a four-foot embankment in a single motion. We close with the question that always sits underneath these conversations. Why here. Why this country. Why does the Rim, of all the places in the American West, produce a Sasquatch tradition this dense and this consistent. The answer has to do with the geography itself, the food and the water and the cover and the canyons that no one has ever surveyed, and with the kind of witnesses this country produces, ranchers and hunters and Forest Service folks and law enforcement, people who know the difference between an elk and a bear and a man, and who keep telling the same story year after year.So pour a cup of something warm, pull your fire up a little closer, and come ride with me up onto the Mogollon Rim. Just don't go off looking for whatever's screaming across the canyon. It already knows where you are.If you've had your own encounter on the Rim, or anywhere in Arizona's high country, reach out. Every story matters, and this show runs on yours.Have you experienced a Bigfoot sighting, Sasquatch encounter, Dogman experience, UFO sighting, or any unexplained cryptid or paranormal event deep in the woods? Fred from the Subarctic Alaska Sasquatch YouTube channel is back with more amazing encounters, and this time he brings us deep into the wild, unforgiving landscape of Alaska. Be sure to check out his channel using the link below. In this episode, Fred shares Ralph's chilling early-1980s encounter on the Willow side of Hatcher Pass, where what began as a routine trip to set up a travel trailer on soft breakup ground quickly turned into something far more terrifying. Ralph first believed he had spotted a bear near the treeline, but the massive figure he saw soon revealed itself to be something far more humanlike, standing an estimated nine-and-a-half to ten feet tall.Over the following days and nights, the activity around the trailer intensified with guttural growls, strange clicking sounds, older tracks, and what appeared to be a worn path leading dangerously close to the trailer window. The encounter escalated when the trailer was violently tipped onto its side during a night of terrifying growls.Ralph fired at the figure in the darkness and later discovered broken windows that had to be patched. On another night, he woke to see a large hand reaching through one of those broken windows, fired again, and then heard heavy movement across the roof. After finding stacked lumber shoved deep into the ground, Ralph finally left the property and never returned. His brother would later abandon the land as well after experiencing similar unexplained events.Fred also shares a haunting 1990s report from near the Kvichak River, where a wolf's howl was followed by the appearance of twenty to thirty wolves and a strange “Jeremiah Johnson”-looking figure. Local elders warned people not to go out alone and spoke of “hairy men” connected to wolves, adding another eerie layer to Alaska's long history of wild, remote, and unsettling Sasquatch encounters.Subarctic Alaska Sasquatch YouTube ChannelEmail BrianGet Our FREE NewsletterGet Brian's Books Leave Us A VoicemailVisit Our WebsiteBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/sasquatch-odyssey--4839697/support.Have you had a Bigfoot encounter, Sasquatch sighting, Dogman experience, or other cryptid or paranormal encounter? Fred from the Subarctic Alaska Sasquatch YouTube Channel is back with two more amazing encounter stories. Be sure to check out Fred's channel using the link below to see all his videos. In this episode, Fred shares two chilling accounts from the wilds of Alaska involving what many Native communities have long referred to as the “hairy man.”The first story follows Rodolfo, a Filipino immigrant who joins an Alaska Native friend on a moose hunt near Grayling Creek off the Yukon River. What begins as a routine hunting trip quickly turns unsettling when the men hear strange whistling in the dark, spot a massive shadowy figure, and witness Rodolfo's friend panic after shining a spotlight on what appears to be an angry, towering creature. As the encounter escalates, gunshots are fired when the figure comes within ten feet of them.Later, Rodolfo sees the creature from a distance, only for the terror to continue that night near their landing area, where he reports eyeshine, a nearly ten-foot-tall figure baring its teeth, brushing dirt from itself, and letting out a terrifying scream before the men arrange an early pickup by radio. The second account centers on Alvin and Myrna, an Athabascan couple hiking Devil's Creek Trail in February 2020 with their nine-month-old Tibetan Mastiff. During the hike, something begins mimicking Myrna's voice in an apparent attempt to lure the dog away. Moments later, the animal is snatched, leaving the couple shaken and desperate for answers.Alvin later catches sight of the creature and hears a scream echo through the valley, turning a peaceful outing into a nightmare they would never forget. These stories serve as a powerful reminder of how vast, remote, and mysterious Alaska's wilderness truly is. The Yellow-billed Cuckoo, one of two species of cuckoos in North America, lives in broadleaf forests throughout the East and riparian stands in the Southwest. Cuckoos were common breeding birds in the Pacific Northwest as late as the 1920s, but then they disappeared. The Black-billed Cuckoo is a more northerly species that lives in dense woodland, even conifer forests. Cuckoos perch quietly and scan their surroundings for food. Hairy tent caterpillars, shunned by most birds, are often on their meal ticket. More info and transcript at BirdNote.org. Want more BirdNote? Subscribe to our weekly newsletter. Jerry from Rebel's Dark Tales of Appalachia YouTube channel, as well as Chris from Sasquatch Recon, are here to share some amazing stories from not only the South Mountains here in North Carolina, but also from South Carolina. In this episode, we dive into a series of strange and unexplained encounters that stretch across generations and landscapes, from the rugged woods of the South Mountains to the dark swamps of South Carolina.Jerry opens the conversation with chilling accounts rooted in local history, focusing on stories passed down by old-timers that challenge the often-repeated belief that Sasquatch activity in the area only began gaining attention in the late 1970s. One of the most gripping stories comes from Jerry's late friend Smitty, who recalled a terrifying 1971 squirrel hunting trip in Cleveland County after returning home from Vietnam. What began as a routine day in the woods with his uncle turned into something far more unsettling when they spotted a massive, hair-covered creature and later found themselves confronted and chased out by an aggressive seven-foot “hairy booger” that screamed, bared its teeth, and made it clear they were no longer welcome there.Jerry also shares several more recent encounters that suggest whatever has been seen in those mountains may still be there. He recounts a 2018 experience involving Uncle Jeff and his nephew Jake, who heard heavy bipedal footsteps in the dark, followed by guttural vocalizations, violent tree shaking, and a brief but disturbing glimpse of a hairy chest and mouth. He then describes a 2022 roadside sighting reported by an elderly couple who claimed to see a creature with glowing red eyes, along with a string of rock-throwing incidents involving a deer hunter, night hikers, a Jeep, and a pair of creek walkers named Ray and Vera. These encounters are paired with eerie whoops, growling howls, and the kind of escalating behavior that leaves little doubt something unusual was happening in those woods.Chris then shifts the conversation into the swamps of South Carolina, where an expedition took a frightening turn after his wood knocks and yells were answered by an unbelievably loud scream from deep in the distance. The sheer power of the sound, combined with the isolation of the swamp, was enough to make the group retreat. It is a tense and atmospheric ending to an episode packed with terrifying firsthand stories, regional lore, and the kind of encounters that continue to fuel the mystery of what may still be hiding in the forests of the South.Rebel's Dark Tales YouTubeSasquatch Recon YouTube Email BrianGet Our FREE NewsletterGet Brian's Books Leave Us A VoicemailVisit Our WebsiteBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/sasquatch-odyssey--4839697/support.Have you had a Bigfoot encounter, Sasquatch sighting, Dogman experience, or other cryptid or paranormal encounter?
