Fred from the Subarctic Alaska Sasquatch YouTube channel is back, and before we get started, make sure you click the link in the show notes and head over to subscribe to his channel. If you care about firsthand accounts coming straight out of Alaska and rooted in lived cultural experience, Fred's work is essential listening. In this episode, Fred takes us beyond simple encounter stories and into the foundation of how knowledge is preserved in his culture. He explains the vital role oral tradition plays in passing down history, survival skills, and encounters with what many in his community know as the Hairy Man. Written documentation is rare. He points out that “Story Knife” remains one of the few works that even attempts to capture fragments of that tradition in print. For generations, stories were not recorded in books—they were carried in memory, tied to landmarks, seasons, and lived experience. Fred also reflects on navigation, describing how descriptive mapping and deep familiarity with terrain once guided people across vast, unforgiving landscapes long before GPS existed. In his view, those skills are not outdated relics—they still matter. The conversation then shifts to a chilling account Fred heard in 2004 from a man named Jerry in Togiak. Jerry described a winter hunting trip west of Non Dalton that took a terrifying turn. During the hunt, a scream erupted across the tundra so intense that it scattered nearby wolves. What followed was even more disturbing. A Hairy Man reportedly struck a caribou with a single backhand blow to the ribs, dropping it. Jerry and his companions salvaged and packed the meat, trying to focus on the task at hand, but the encounter was far from over. The creature returned, and in an overwhelming display of strength and dominance, it threw their packed quarters over a ridge. The men abandoned the situation and escaped on their snow machines, shaken by what they had witnessed. Jerry also recalled an earlier sighting along the West Channel of the Nok River, where he saw a tall, young, slender Hairy Man that fled the area and swam away, avoiding contact. Fred then shares experiences from a property owner near Juneau, referred to as “Sam,” whose encounters unfolded over time rather than in a single dramatic moment. Sam described strange whistling that mimicked human tones, the sound and sight of bipedal movement in the trees, prolonged wood-banging that echoed through the forest, rocks landing near hunters, and even owl hoots that felt deliberately imitative rather than natural. Alongside these physical signs was a persistent, oppressive feeling in the woods—an atmosphere that made it clear something was present. Sam hesitated to speak openly for fear of ridicule, something Fred notes is common among witnesses. He also discusses a website encounter map and highlights recurring patterns across Alaska: whistles, rock throwing, wood knocks, and vocal mimicry that suggest these accounts follow familiar themes. Subarctic Alaska Sasquatch YouTube ChannelEmail BrianGet Our FREE NewsletterGet Brian's Books Leave Us A VoicemailVisit Our WebsiteBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/sasquatch-odyssey--4839697/support.Have you had a Bigfoot encounter, Sasquatch sighting, Dogman experience, or other cryptid or paranormal encounter? Fred from the Subarctic Alaska Sasquatch YouTube Channel is back! Be sure to click the link in the show notes below and check out Fred's amazing channel.Fred, a tribal council member from Dillingham, Alaska, returns to share chilling accounts of encounters with what he calls the “hairy man.” In his First Nations culture, these experiences are not sensationalized—they're part of oral history and everyday life in remote Alaska. In the first story, two relatives—“Penelope” and “Jasmine”—were camping on a gravel bar near the confluence of the Nuuk and Ishak rivers while heading to Harris Creek to prospect for gold. During the night, they heard strange noises and saw multiple sets of eyeshine—white and amber/red—watching from the darkness. Penelope witnessed a massive, dark, man-like figure with long arms moving along the riverbank. What followed escalated quickly: a blood-curdling scream, pebbles tossed into the water, and even a broken birch tree thrown into the channel. A towering figure—estimated around 12 feet tall—paced, swayed, squatted, showed its teeth, and vocalized while more eyeshine appeared in the distance, suggesting multiple beings. After a warning shot was fired, the activity briefly stopped—but later something crossed the channel, circled their tent while huffing like a bear, screamed from just 15 feet away, and even rocked a large tree stump near camp. Shots were fired from inside the tent before the pair fled in their boat, leaving their camp behind. Reports of screams, thrown objects, tracks, and even UFO sightings are common in the remote regions he represents. He then shares a second account from about 20 years ago. Two friends, “Benson” and “Terry,” set out on a 10-day fly-fishing trip that ended early after repeated frightening events. They experienced unnatural silence, large tracks, and the constant feeling of being watched. Terry saw a large man-like figure in the tundra and later encountered something 8 to 8.5 feet tall standing in a creek, unfazed by shouting. On the sixth day, Benson followed a strange melodic whistle and appeared briefly trance-like before Terry stopped him. That night, Benson finally saw the creature clearly—squatted about 20 feet from camp with glowing red eyeshine, a wrinkled face, massive hands, and large block-like teeth framed by thick fur. When Terry aimed his rifle, it screamed. Shots were fired, and they believed it may have been hit.The creature returned repeatedly that night and eventually grabbed and threw their tent before running off after more gunfire.By day seven, they hiked out and were picked up early. Benson later remembered a warning from a Native friend: “Do not mess with the hairy man.”Email BrianGet Our FREE NewsletterGet Brian's Books Leave Us A VoicemailVisit Our WebsiteBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/sasquatch-odyssey--4839697/support.

No inserted ads: www.patreon.com/dopeypodcast The episode opens with your intro, then the bulk of the show is Hairy Tongue Will's massive, chaotic, detailed telling of his addiction, near-death runs, arrests, relapse cycles, dead friends, and eventual recovery. Will describes the early Long Island chaos with Richie, Mike, and Lenny—everyone strung out on heroin, crack, coke, and whatever they could get. He recalls the first serious turn: showing up to a house where Lenny was passed out after a three-day crack run, realizing “the demons are taking over.” Mike and Richie spiral deeper, and Will keeps managing to “hold it together” thanks to jobs, work ethic, and a strange electrical-job stabilizer that kept him semi-functional.He details years of DUIs, probation, manipulating drug tests, smoking crack constantly while still working 16-hour electrician shifts, and thriving socially because coworkers lived vicariously through him. He normalized chaos, missing only “one no-call/no-show every two weeks,” which he considered acceptable. Will then dives into his first short attempt at stability, living in a basement apartment. His probation officer surprises him the day after a holiday: the apartment is filled with beer cans, bongs, baggies. He fails the test, is sent back to rehab/jail cycles, and explains why Long Island addicts often choose jail over treatment. He describes his surreal time in jail—being sent to the Montauk Lighthouse on work crews, eating egg sandwiches and black-and-milds with the guards, becoming “the useful guy,” actually feeling respected and purposeful.Back outside, he tries again, fails again, collects DUIs, cycles through companies, loses jobs, hustles side work, and repeatedly relapses. A wedding night leads to another DUI. COVID hits while he's in jail. He gets out, starts working nonstop, earns money, piles cash in a closet, stacks crypto, reads self-help books, sleeps on a mattress on the floor, becomes obsessed with success and control. Then he meets a girl in Tennessee. He drinks again “successfully” only when he flies there. He builds a double life—working himself numb, drinking out of state, convincing himself he's different.Eventually, on a work trip, he gambles, wins big, drinks an old fashioned, and secretly cooks his boss's cocaine into crack. This reignites the obsession. Will starts traveling the Northeast and Midwest, repeatedly pulling crack-seeking missions: gas stations, high-crime neighborhoods, asking strangers, “I'm looking for some hard.” He builds drug contacts in Bridgeport, Dayton, Maine, Virginia, wherever the job sends him. He smokes in hotels, hallucinates blood on floors, changes rooms repeatedly. He recounts the deaths of friends:Mike, whose father turned their home into a sheet-walled trap house with dealers and bikers living inside. How Mike died with his father selling sneakers off his dead son's body.Richie, who got sober then died of fentanyl after nearly two years clean. Will's life collapses further—obsession, resentment toward God, jealousy, terminal uniqueness. He becomes a “demon,” wanting to die like his friends. He terrifies his girlfriend with delusional FaceTimes, nine-day runs, psychosis. She moves in without knowing the truth and becomes trapped in codependency. He stays high for 26 straight days, manipulates her with antihistamine allergy episodes to cover his psychosis, hides crack pipes around the house with ring cameras everywhere. He finally admits some truth, gives her $5,000 to escape, but she stays another nine months. He tells insane stories:Pretending he's a trust-fund baby to get free crackGetting shot at by a dealer after a misunderstanding over “two grams” vs “two ounces”Driving through wooded roads barefoot at gas stationsDealers trying to jump himBecoming a mule for a recently-released dealer (Ace)Near misses, violence, and pure street insanityEventually, during a pickup, he gets chased, prays for police lights, and his car breaks down. Cops descend. He gets a mountain of charges (“five decades worth”). He thinks he'll die in prison. Bail reform gets him released. He immediately uses again for 17 more days.A sober lawyer tries pushing him toward St. Christopher's. Will resists, manipulates LICR, relapses again, cancels his own insurance, tries to die, and after weeks of chaos his mother gets him re-approved. He relapses immediately for three days, misses Mother's Day entirely. That night, suicidal again, he receives a series of calls: first from Jordan, then from his tough sponsor, who gives him clear direction—go to a sober house, go to daily groups, go to nightly meetings, call people, build structure. Will frauds his urine to get in, but once inside, follows every instruction. In this episode, a witness recounts a chilling roadside encounter on Wildcat Mountain Road near Estacada, Oregon. While driving, they describe seeing a large, hairy figure walking along the road, which appears to notice the vehicle, pause, duck down, and hide in a dip among the bushes. The encounter unfolds silently, with the figure remaining concealed while watching from the roadside. This firsthand account adds to a growing collection of unexplained sightings in rural Oregon, raising questions about what may be inhabiting remote mountain roads and forested areas. Was it a misidentified person, or something far more unusual?

Send us a textIs Bigfoot real… or just the greatest brand never officially launched? As Mike and Blaine kick off Season 6 with a bold pivot diving into the business of pup culture and today's ‘biggest' stories, they head straight into the forest to tackle one of the most enduring mysteries of all time — Bigfoot. From blurry trail-cam photos and questionable eyewitness accounts to conspiracy theories that refuse to die, this episode breaks down the legend of Sasquatch with zero credentials and maximum curiosity. But this isn't just a cryptid campfire story — it's a surprisingly sharp look at how myths are built, why mystery sells, and how Bigfoot has quietly become a global brand without a CEO, marketing team, or LinkedIn profile.Along the way, Mike and Blaine explore what entrepreneurs can learn from Bigfoot's cultural staying power, the business of belief, and why humans love a good story more than cold, hard facts. Expect laughs, wild speculation, brand hot takes, and absolutely no scientific guarantees. no inserted ads: www.patreon.com/dopeypodcastThis Week on a super classic episode of Dopey! Dave is visited by local Long Islander - Will P. AKA Hairy Tongue Will. Dave opens the show drinking Ryze mushroom coffee while talking about how cold his recording room is. He announces that Dopey will be releasing five episodes per week throughout December, including replays, Patreon teasers, deep cuts, and new interviews. He gives sobriety shoutouts — notably Lauren's three-year milestone and Maddie Veitch from Leftover Salmon celebrating her own recovery marker. He encourages listeners to email in clean-time milestones for future episodes.Dave then goes through a lengthy run of Spotify comments left on the Darrell Hammond episode. The comments range from people complaining about the “This or That” game, others defending it, jokes about possums, encouragement about psychedelics, questions about whether Darrell is truly sober, praise for the episode, frustration with the interview pacing, random remarks about Lime Drive and “Mike's Amazing Stuff,” plus multiple requests for stickers. Dave reads each comment and jokes along, sometimes offering to send merch.Ads for Mountainside and Link Diagnostics follow. Dave talks about how Mountainside is central to the history of Dopey and how Link Diagnostics offers drug testing services that help people “stay positive and test negative.”Dave then plays an LSD voicemail from Henry in San Francisco, who took two hits of acid alone in college. Henry becomes one with his bicycle, panics at a house fumigation tent he interprets as a circus, fears he'll be mutated by pesticides, runs home, listens to the Butthole Surfers, sees Aztec gods appearing from shifting ceiling patterns, and eventually rides it out. He is now 15 months sober and credits Dopey Nation for support.Next he reads an email from Jerry, who describes crazy addiction history including fighting cops on PCP, overdoses, ventilators, and robbing heroin dealers. Jerry discovered Dopey by typing “heroin” into the podcast search bar while newly out of rehab in 2018. His biggest complaint is that Dave has never watched Joe Dirt. The episode opens with your intro, then the bulk of the show is Hairy Tongue Will's massive, chaotic, detailed telling of his addiction, near-death runs, arrests, relapse cycles, dead friends, and eventual recovery. He enters St. Chris, still delusional, still dangerous. There he breaks. He admits suicidal thoughts, gets a guard stationed outside his door, hears the blunt truth—you're the worst-off guy here and you did this to yourself. It lands. Will begins working the program: spiritual direction, grief groups, codependency, meetings, kitchen duty, everything. He reconnects with his mother in sobriety. In this chilling episode, Fred from Alaska—shares powerful firsthand accounts of the mysterious being known locally as the “Hairy Man.” Speaking with calm certainty and cultural grounding, Fred explains that these encounters aren't isolated legends or personal oddities; they're a long-standing reality for many First Nations families across the region, passed down through lived experience as much as oral tradition.Fred recounts his own unnerving experiences alongside stories from relatives who have faced the Hairy Man in remote stretches of Alaska. One standout moment takes place near a quiet pond, where what begins as an ordinary day turns deeply unsettling when the creature reveals itself—displaying awareness, strategy, and an intelligence that feels deliberate rather than animalistic. The episode then shifts to an even more harrowing hunting camp encounter: nighttime disturbances, unseen movement in the treeline, and a mounting sense of being watched culminate in a terrifying confrontation that leaves no doubt the group was being targeted and tested.Throughout the conversation, Fred emphasizes respect for the land, the people who live closest to it, and the beings that may share it. He calls on more Alaskans—especially Indigenous voices who have kept these stories quietly within families—to come forward. By gathering and comparing accounts, Fred believes we can better understand the patterns, behavior, and purpose of these encounters, and maybe finally bring clarity to one of Alaska's most enduring mysteries.Get Our FREE NewsletterGet Brian's Books Leave Us A VoicemailVisit Our WebsiteSupport Our SponsorsBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/sasquatch-odyssey--4839697/support.

We've been doing this for a while and there are a couple of forumlas for the show. There's the happy path and the "Let's burn it all to the ground path".  Tonight was the later.  Democrats launch a salvo fo sedition encouraging military to not follow orders. They don't know what orders are illegal, but they're throwing propaganda just to cause problems. Jasmine Crockett embaresses herself again. Zohran Mamdani is panhandling and the White House actuallyu gave him facetime. There's a perverted AI teddybear being sold. We discussed it. Oh and we discussed Epsteins deformed penis, 3 Mile island, dancing socialist doctors and a couple of Texans that wanted to take over a Haitian island. Good luck with this one. Fred from Alaska shares a chilling collection of Alaskan Sasquatch encounters that stretch across decades of tundra silence and deep wilderness unease. In this episode, the host returns to Vincent Wesley's 2011 moose-hunting trip, when what should have been a routine outing took a terrifying turn after Vincent crossed paths with what locals call the “hairy man.” After new conversations with Vincent's sister Grace and villagers from the surrounding region, the story widens into something far more unsettling, as fresh details surface about strange vocalizations, unexplained movement in the brush, and a long pattern of sightings that locals have kept quiet for years. As the episode unfolds, listeners hear additional accounts from villagers who describe the same kind of presence moving through their homeland. A group of women and children recount a 2021 encounter with an immense, unfamiliar figure that appeared briefly but left a lasting psychological mark, reinforcing the sense that these beings are not legends in Alaska, but a reality quietly woven into daily life.He also shares a haunting story from the 1970s, told by Lorraine, a volcanologist working in remote Alaskan terrain who experienced something eerie and intelligent watching her from the edge of isolation—an encounter that still rattles her decades later. Another disturbing account comes from Corey and Bob, who describe a tense run-in near Snake River with a mysterious figure that seemed to track them with deliberate intent, leaving them convinced they were being studied, not hunted.Out there in the tundra, in the places where the land feels endless and human voices fade, something else may be living alongside us—watching, moving, and occasionally stepping into view just long enough to remind people they are not alone.Get Our FREE NewsletterGet Brian's Books Leave Us A VoicemailVisit Our WebsiteSupport Our SponsorsBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/sasquatch-odyssey--4839697/support.

How Haunted? Podcast | Horrible Histories, Real Life Ghost Stories, and Paranormal Investigations from Some of the Most Haunt

In episode 120 we go in search of towering, hairy beasts that are said to stalk the wilderness. From the snow-covered slopes of the Himalayas to the dense forests of North America, reports of upright, ape-like creatures have refused to die, no matter how much science tries to bury them. In this episode, we're taking on the heavyweights of cryptid folklore — creatures with names so iconic they barely need introduction. As Monster Month continues, we venture into regions where oxygen runs thin, tracks disappear into the snow, and something might be watching from the tree line. We'll examine centuries of folklore, dig through expedition reports, and pick apart the so-called evidence that keeps the hunt alive. So join me this week as we go in search of the Yeti and Bigfoot.  In this episode, Fred from Alaska recounts a chilling first-hand encounter with a creature known as the 'Hairy Man' by Joseph and his cousins during a fishing trip in 1987. The story includes eerie whistling sounds, sightings of a large neanderthal-like figure, and the superstitions that are perpetuated in light of such encounters. Fred also discusses a subsequent trip taken by Joseph and his brother to the same location, resulting in another close call with the creature. Additionally, Fred shares an experience from his relative Nikolai, who had a similar chilling encounter with the Hairy Man while on a hunting trip near the New Yauk River. These narratives highlight how superstitious beliefs are deeply ingrained in local culture and often linked with coincidental tragedies, such as the unfortunate drowning of Joseph's young cousin shortly after the encounter.Get Our FREE NewsletterGet Brian's Books Leave Us A VoicemailVisit Our WebsiteSupport Our Sponsors00:00 Introduction and Purpose 00:22 Joseph's Encounter with the Unknown 08:50 The Aftermath and Superstitions 16:36 Nikolai's Harrowing Experience 24:55 Conclusion and Final ThoughtsBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/sasquatch-odyssey--4839697/support.
