We did it! We watched and compared Joss and Amy's other two shows. They didn't have quite as much in common as Buffy and Gilmore, but they are both about ragtag groups of people who become each other's found family, led by reluctant heroes. Also both shows feature young, thin, petite girls who can do impressive stuff with their bodies. Oh, and Mitchum! We discuss what worked about the shows, what didn't, and where they maybe would have gone with more seasons. Plus we do an accidental ad for Gain detergent! We will be taking a little break, but please stay tuned for what's next! Here is that Honest Trailer for Firefly that we mentioned. Here is the Bunheads Farewell Dance. Here is the link for the Gilmore Girls Fan Fest weekend. Listen to Laura and Paisley's ramblings on the Pilot episode of Gilmore Girls. We go over the synopsis & most scenes, zeroing in on some fashion, literature, background information and favorite quotes. Synopsis:We’re introduced to the Gilmore girls, Lorelai and her daughter Rory, who live in the idyllic New England town of Stars Hollow, Connecticut. We meet Luke Danes, owner of Luke’s Diner (the girls’ favorite spot for food and coffee.) During the scene at Luke’s we see the close bond between mother & daughter, which more closely resembles best friends. We also are introduced to the staff at The Independence Inn, the inn managed by Lorelai. Michel, the rude French man who is the concierge, the also rude Drella, the harp player & Sookie, the clumsy and quirky chef round out the staff. We meet Rory’s friend Lane who attends Stars Hollow High with her. Her parents own Kim’s Antiques and want to set Lane up with a future doctor. Rory has been accepted to Chilton, a prestigious prep school in Hartford, which should help her with admission to Harvard, her dream university. While excited, Lorelai realizes she can’t afford it, so she returns to her pretty much estranged wealthy parents to ask for a loan. They agree, but her mother Emily wants something in return: weekly Friday night dinners with Lorelai & Rory. We meet Dean, the new kid who has been admiring Rory and her nose stuck in book tendencies. They have an awkward meet-cute and eventually Rory considers not attending Chilton because of him. Lorelai refuses to let her daughter throw her life away for some guy and they have a fight. The Gilmore girls attend their first of many Friday Night Dinners at the Gilmore mansion. It turns into a disaster with Emily and Lorelai fighting in the kitchen. Rory overhears it all, including the deal made for the funds for Chilton. Lorelai and Rory makeup and Rory decides to go through with attending Chilton. Direct iTunes link. Last episode we had bookend scenes concerning Simon and his poor mum. This episode, we had another storytelling device (foreshadowing), but they tweaked it a little to keep the audience guessing. The sequences of Frankie prepping that nameless dumbass for his day in the sun and Maya's get-ready routine with Bram were mirrors. Caroline and I agree that a storytelling opportunity was missed though by keeping Bram in the camera's focus without a break. Wouldn't it have been a little more exciting if the ship had exploded and we didn't know where Bram was? We think so and wouldn't have required much more than more clever editing. We also got to see what Will's new work situation is -really- going to look like with Bob "the jerk" Burke as his partner. If the constantly looking over his shoulder and needing to keep one hand on a firearm at all times don't appeal to him, there's the executions and torture to look forward to. I'm convinced Burke was a complete nobody before the Arrival. I don't want to denigrate any specific loser-ey type profession by saying Bob was a fill-in-the-blank, but... I think he's getting a chance to work out a lot of pent up aggression from a previously unfulfilling career. Homicidal, insane vocal inflection-filled aggression. I mean, really! Did he think just putting the emphasis on a different word was going to yield a different result? WHO leads your cell? BLAM. Who LEADS your cell? BLAM. Who leads your CELL? BLAM. It's fair to say Bob was only 1 for 2 on the day's total interview count. In all, peeves aside, a LOT happened this episode. The Resistance blew up a ship! Yay? LA was already on probation from that "Total Rendition" vote. How's that going to play? AND... Will is ready to throw in with the Resistance. But really, I think regardless of affiliation, Will's first plan is going to be get the family out of the bloc. I bet that's what we see in episode 8. Little did we know when we attended the Gilmore Girls Fan Fest that we'd get to meet a Colony guest star?
We have to keep you on your toes, so we're updating relatively quickly this time. This episode is pretty long, mainly because we had to discuss the Megans' trip to EW Pop Fest, Elizabeth's trip to the Gilmore Girls Fan Fest, and Eileen's experience at the Luke's pop-up in Houston. And at some point in there we also managed to watch an episode of Bunheads. Come back next time for "A Nutcracker in Paradise" with special guests, The Shipping Room! As always, please let us know if you think we missed any references and we'll do penalty shots next time. Host Elisa Benson and cohost Annemarie Conte visited the real-life Stars Hollow and got tons of never-heard-before scoop straight from the Gilmore Girls cast. Includes interviews with Keiko Agena (Lane), Vanessa Marano (April), Sean Gunn (Kirk), Jackson Douglas (Jackson), and Jennie and Marcus Whitaker, the superfans who made the first-ever #GilmoreGirlsFanFest a reality.
Biff Yeager, an experienced Hollywood character actor who has been in many popular movies and TV shows such as: Edward Scissorhands, Batman Returns, Repo Man, Sid and Nancy, Seinfeld, Golden Girls, Gilmore Girls, Preacher, and our favorite: Star Trek: The Next Generation. On TNG he played Chief Engineer Lt. Commander Argyle in season one. Biff shined in his role, but only did 2 episodes. This is known as "The Legend of Argyle"* and we get to the bottom of it. We also find out Argyle's first name, and how his character dies (not canon - but close enough). * Argyle (and Biff) had a recent ST:TNG renaissance due to the popular podcast "The Greatest Generation". Hosts (Ben Harrison and Adam Pranica) spotlighted Lt. Commander Argyle one day, and their fans on social media took it from there. Biff's now a GreatestGen listener that responds to his fans and friends on twitter. Also, we find out if Biff would appear at "Gen Con 2017"! Did you know Biff was a big deal on Gilmore Girls too? He talks about the upcoming Gilmore Girls Fan Fest in Connecticut. Will "Tom, the Contractor" appear at the CT. Fan Fest? With or without a beard?? Most recently Biff played a minor yet critical character on AMC's "Preacher". His character changes the entire landscape of the show! We talk about his work on Preacher, so... SPOILER ALERT if you did not see the finale! Biff's a great guy, and truly an artist first and foremost. Chuck and I got to see some of his fractal artwork and it's amazing. He's putting together a book of his art pieces, and hopes it will be available to purchase by Christmas. While you're waiting for that, go to Amazon right now and get the children's book he and his daughter collaborated on: Smokey The Cat. It's based on Biff's actual cat finding his purr. Aww! One thing we forgot to mention on our show, Biff's twitter handle is @Biff_Yeager. Go follow him and tell him you heard him on our show! (Or at least follow him.) Thanks for downloading this episode, and please leave us a kind review on iTunes. SKYPE is a fickle mistress. The connection crapped out, so I edited around that stuff. Maybe I pulled it off, let me know.)
