Back in 2012, Andy was nice enough to agree to join Mike on his show Bailey's Batman Podcast to do a commentary for Batman Returns. Recently, the episodes of BBP that were available are no longer available for various reasons that all involve money, but Mike thought it might be fun to take the commetnary out of storage and put it here. And thus you get to hear a 13 year old commentary, unedited and just as it was when it was released. Mike hasn't listened to this in quite some time, so he doesn't remember if he or Andy said something that in the decade and change since it came out has become less socially acceptable, but he's pretty sure they didn't. Mike does remember that there was a fascinating discussion on DVD compression in the US compared to the UK and how they sets of the film look very much like sets, but other than that it's a complete mystery.  Andy and Mike would like to wish you and yours a very Happy/Merry Christmas or whatever holiday you choose to celebrate this time of year. Set at Christmastime in Los Angeles, the movie pairs veteran detective Roger Murtaugh (Danny Glover) with newcomer Martin Riggs (Mel Gibson). Their investigation into a young woman's suspicious death spirals into a violent clash with drug traffickers and the psychotic Mr. Joshua (Gary Busey).Lethal Weapon is full of heart, which is what you want in a Christmas movie. Riggs who is spiraling out of control from grief and Murtaugh, a grounded family man, form a bond that is convincing from start to finish. Also written by Shane Black, Hollywood's king of Christmas action movies and directed by Richard Donner, Lethal Weapon blends holiday themes with explosive action, dark humor, and iconic one-liners. He goes, 'All different people. And I just keep walking and walking and I'm seeing all these different people every night. Sharon also talked about the first time she and Ozzy met, when they fell in love, how she will never want to get married again, how if she didn't have kids she would have killed herself when he died, and the thing she misses most is holding his hand.On a lighter note, she also talked about how she wanted to get back at Roger Waters for the negative things he said about Ozzy after he died. And that was by sending him a Tiffany box filled with feces, which she used to do to critics who wrote negative reviews about Ozzy's shows without being there. When she did, it was her infant son Jack's poop that would be used.She ultimately decided against it, saying, “Even that is a waste, to send [crap] to him. It's a waste because he's really insignificant. But I just thought, anybody that passes has a family… you don't do that.” (Sharon's not the first musician's wife to do that. Paul and Linda McCartney sent some of their daughter Stella's poop to a journalist who earned their trust, then betrayed them.)Going forward, Sharon says she's continuing to work on an Ozzy bio-pic and that she knows who she wants to play him. One of the big set pieces is the lighting of the Gotham Christmas tree.3. "Eyes Wide Shut" (1999). Even though it was released in July, it takes place over Christmas.4. "Gremlins" (1984). This one has Christmas written all over it. And also little green, murderous demons.5. "First Blood" (1982). The first of the "Rambo" films has a Christmas tree in the background of one scene. So . . . Christmas movie!!!6. "Trading Places" (1983). There's a Christmas party, and Dan Aykroyd as a drunken Santa waving a handgun. But it doesn't end on December 25th. If it's a Christmas movie, then it also qualifies as a New Year's movie.7. "Kiss Kiss Bang Bang" (2005). This one takes place during the Christmas season in L.A. And it was released in November.8. "Edward Scissorhands" (1990). Kind of a no-brainer.9. "Lethal Weapon" (1987). Another one of those action movies that HAPPENS to take place around Christmas.10. "Rocky" (1976). This might be the greatest American holiday film of all time, because it includes Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's. And also punching.11. "Hook" (1991). The scenes in the real world, outside Neverland, are set at Christmas. 12. "Iron Man 3" (2013). The whole movie plays out around Christmas.13. "The Nightmare Before Christmas" (1993). Is it a Christmas movie or a Halloween movie? The free-flowing combat system has been copied over and over, and I'd range that the quality of Arkham City's story, gallery of characters, setting, and graphics have set bars that most modern games still can't touch 15 years later.
