Send us a textFriends of EddieThe second 1x1 feature rounding out Season 14 and, chosen by Jack, the film is THE FRIENDS OF EDDIE COYLE (1973). Directed by Peter Yates, whose career TGTPTU is unlikely to cover in a future 4x4 despite having Krull and Bullitt in his credits, TFOEC is an adaptation of George V. Higgins' inaugural novel and notable as a unromanticized depiction of crime in artistic response to The Godfather, the Puzo book and Coppola film each preceding, respectively, the book and movie versions of TFOEC by one year. Higgins would take issue with the book as his debut novel. The former deputy assistant attorney general claimed to have written and burned 14 novels over 17 years prior to TFOEC and would go on to author over 30 books, both fiction and nonfiction before his fatal heart attack in 1999, but none with the impact of his first. As seasonal guest host Jack points out, nearly all the dialogue in the film is as it is on the page, and the pages are dripping with dialogue that creates the setting and action for this ironic story of “friends” who double-cross and live less than glamorous lives as Irish mobsters and criminals in Boston. Yates populates the film with faces, faces that we don't see much anymore, distinct faces and every one telling a story, from the titular Coyle plated by Robert Mitchum who earlier in this life reluctantly left the assembly line to be an actor to actor Alex Rocco who starred as Moe Greene in The Godfather and helped Mitchum meet some of his old criminal friends whom Rocco had to leave behind after he (the actor Alex Rocco) was held for questioning in relation to the murder that kicked off the Boston Irish Gang War of the 1960s to James Tolkan before he'd lost his hair a decade prior to portraying Principal Strickland in the Back to the Future movies and Detective Hugh Lubic in the Cannon Films classic Masters of the Universe. For this episode, everyone did research: Jack and Thomas pair off for book report; Ryan covers the career of Mitchum; and Ken covers Yates and laments how now Hollywood lacks hacks as well as provides a new shaggy dog with The Pals of Charlie Brown. In this episode of The Reride Podcast, the boys dive into some classic western movies, just as we wrap up the last of the poems for our first competition. Mitchum couldn't wait and decided to try his hand at writing a poem himself, which has left Taran feeling less confident about his chances of winning the poem battle between the two. Christmas is in the can. New Years is just around the corner but it's still that most wonderful time of the year and your soon to be permanently renamed movie talk feed/show/pod is here with another Christmas classic featuring one of our favorites, Robert Mitchum. A fairly strange tale for the Hayes code time as two men, one a rich niceboy and the other a broke swaggart, are after the same single mother. It's a dirty game and Connie's rascal kid has a preference real quick. You know where this will go but it's an interesting journey to get there with some nice performances. Don Hartman's 1949 classic Christmas rom-com “HOLIDAY AFFAIR” stands out as worthy little charmer for the holidays. It also stars Janet Leigh & Wendell Corey who plays Carl who, despite being NOT the love interest, might be the nicest guy on the planet in 1949. Mitchum's “Steve” is not so nice in comparison but you know he's gonna get you outta them britches. Maybe even late era Mitchum when he was just walking around with those big glasses. He was also constantly drunk. He threw a basketball at a lady and knocked out her teeth. Does that eliminate him as our dawg? …not yet. The needs to be a deliberation period. For now let's discuss HOLIDAY AFFAIR! The Joy Revolution Podcast - Ep 139: From Academic to Entrepreneur with Dr. Catrina Mitchum
Today on the Rarified Heir Podcast, we are talking to Carrie Mitchum, daughter of actor Christopher Mitchum, granddaughter to iconic actor Robert Mitchum and mother to actor Grace Van Dien. And while that's a lot of actors in your family, we haven't even mentioned her actor brother, her actor uncle, her great actor or her own acting career! I'm talking actors! That's quite a family business! The Fonda's, the Bridges' and the Douglas's aint got nothing on The Mitchum's. Although maybe the Huston's rival all this. Anyway, I digress…. We jumped around on the latest episode with Carrie because there was frankly so much to talk about. Of course we wanted to know what life was like with Grampa Robert – and we do. But we also heard so much about her own acting career starting with the soap opera The Bold and the Beautiful as well as her time growing up in Europe and Asia on movie sets starring her father. Moreover, it's a total trip to know she had cookies on sitting on the lap of one of Europe's most feared dictators as part of that experience. We also talk to Carrie about her grandfather's film and his recording career, her father's films with John Wayne, growing up at the Green Acres estate with Harold Lloyd and our prior guest Suzanne Lloyd, the poetry of Robert Mitchum, her daughters time on Stranger Things, grampa's favorite food, being on the set of the film, That Championship Season, how no one really knows a family dynamic just by reading a tabloid, what NAR means, The Mitchum Steakhouse, being married to a “sex symbol” and much more. This is the Rarified Heir Podcast and everyone has a story.

From wiki: “The Night of the Hunter is a 1955 American film noir thriller directed by Charles Laughton and starring Robert Mitchum, Shelley Winters and Lillian Gish. Preston Mitchum Jr. writes books to inspire with books full of positive affirmations. Mitchum was a journalist for over 18 years, and realized he wanted to pour more positivity into his community. “You know, working at evening shift, we cover kind of some tough some tough stories in some tough communities and in the area that I worked in. And you know what? I got tired. I got tired of just covering those stories night in and night out. And I wanted to find a way to make a difference.” He founded the PMJ foundation after leaving the news business. He wanted to make a difference in the lives of low-income families. “I wanted to use the power of media to kind of shine a light on some of the things that are going on in these communities. And let's try to work together to figure out how to solve them, how to offer programs. Services that are going to help family's kind of raise themselves up from the daily grind that they're going through.” Mitchum says you can never have too many powerful tools to incorporate into our everyday lives. Positive Vibes Kids promote self-confidence and positivity. A portion of the proceeds support programs and services offered by the PMJ Foundation. “Words are powerful. And I think whenever we can offer positive words, it's so important. And the beautiful thing about these books is they're quick. It's quick little affirmation. You're not asking for a whole lot of time, so you can take a couple of minutes to read a powerful affirmation as our kids get ready to go to school. When they when they're at school.”Support WITF: https://www.witf.org/support/give-now/See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

We did it! We watched and compared Joss and Amy's other two shows. They didn't have quite as much in common as Buffy and Gilmore, but they are both about ragtag groups of people who become each other's found family, led by reluctant heroes. Also both shows feature young, thin, petite girls who can do impressive stuff with their bodies. Oh, and Mitchum! We discuss what worked about the shows, what didn't, and where they maybe would have gone with more seasons. Plus we do an accidental ad for Gain detergent! Flying out the gate like the Ultimate Warrior, today we gots 7 more 70's movie reviews, and here…they…are! first up is (The Yakuza 1974) With Robert Mitchum (I'm just starting the whole chapter about him in Roger Eberts book- Life Itself) Ken Takakura, The best friend of Logan in Logan's Run, The Dad who hired Mr. French in Family Affair, and Stanley from the Golden Girls are all here with Mitchum in this. Is this Movie good, we like Director Sydney Pollack, and Writer Paul Schrader, but can they pull it off? Let's see, shall we. Next up is (Adventures of the wilderness family 1975). We are continuing our odd ass journey of Robert Logan's nature/adventure films. This is the one with 2 sequels, kind of afraid of them, oh my, this is silly enough. Onward to (Bullet Train 1975). Ashes liked this one best for it's rad historical context. Also important to watch as stupid Americans, to learn that SPEED totally ripped this one off. Filmed entirely on location on the bullet train between Tokyo and Hiroshima, also Ken Takakura is back here. More of Ken to come. Travel with us now to skull island and (King Kong 1976) It's got issues and it kinda sucks, but also with that, there's a lot of cool people here, bein weird, especially Jeff Bridges. Directed by John Guillermin after he made a ton of money for the studio people when we made (The Towering inferno) in 74 so they threw a ton o dough at this thing here, Wait John directed Shaft in Africa, heck yeah! Moving on we gots (Slap Shot 1977) George Roy Hill is our director here, with one of my favorite screenwriters Nancy Dowd, who if someone could just chuck some dough at us and this pod I would love to interview, while she is still around to interviewed plz, to all you rich benefactors out there. Is something wrong with me that I think the Hanson Brothers are simply adorable. Next today we review (Every which way but loose 1978)That punching movie with the Orangutan Clyde, also Maude's shotgun scene is priceless. Gee it's also kind of an anti Fascist picture, not as fiercely anti fascist as the blues brothers, but I think it still counts, there is much nazi punching. Hey our direct here James Fargo made the 80's cult masterpiece Voyage of the rock aliens in 84, can't for the Vintage video 80's podcast to cover that one, also VVP stay out of our lane eh. finally today we review yet another made for TV 70's movie that snuck some greatness under the radar (See how she runs 1978) Joanne Woodward plays a teacher who just wants to run in the Boston Marathon but oddly has to battle the world and even her family just to do so! Drop us a review and all the dang stars if you like what you hear, and thank you muchly for listening.
John Grace and Eric Zaldivar investigate Robert Mitchum's two film run as Phillip Marlowe in FAREWELL, MY LOVELY and THE BIG SLEEP. Why does it seem like Mitchum played two different characters? Is Michael Winner a good director? Which cult actress did Candy Clark dub in her most popular role? Can Kevin Costner revive the western genre with two long-ass movies? Did JK Rowling's Harry Potter books mind-rape Eric? These mysteries and more are solved in this hard-boiled episode Enjoy

Our 6th of 7 episodes during this Revenge Month takes us to America's Deep South as we talk about Robert Mitchum making Gregory Peck's life a living hell in Cape Fear. What's more, the convicted rapist threatens the lawyer's family in some of the worst way's a hateful person can. "Rape" is never spoken in the dialogue, but it's a constant theme. Mitchum plays such a clever, sadistic villain. He's one of the most-sinister of anyone on AFI's Heroes & Villains list and he could have ranked even higher on that list than he did. We also talked a lot about the dubious morality in Martin Scorsese's flashy 1991 remake, but the focus of this show is on J. Lee Thompson's tense original. So, counsellors, take dangerous matters into your own hands as this 585th edition of Have You Ever Seen pokes a toe in the river before going off the deep end into Cape Fear. For The Record: the actual Cape Fear is in North Carolina. Also, while Robert De Niro is certainly covered in tattoos in the 1991 version, he doesn't have the "love/hate" knuckle tattoos that Mitchum has in The Night Of The Hunter (and that Radio Raheem also has as knuckle rings in Do The Right Thing). Transmitters of all sizes and from several major manufacturers. The most recent transmitter replacement is at WZYP-FM in Huntsville, Alabama. Market Engineer, Dominic Mitchum, is taking care of much of the local work and logistics, alongside Robert’s work. The project also includes replacing the RF coaxial transfer switch, main coax, and even the main and backup FM antennas. Robert and Dominic give us a very informative video tour and discussion of this project on Capshaw Mountain. Plus, Chris Tarr relates his own recent transmitter installation experiences and has developed some advice on purchasing used transmitters. Things get heated right from the start as we discuss Anna, Lorelai, Luke and April. Who is right? Who is wrong? Should Anna have gotten so upset with Luke? Should Lorelai have gone to see Anna? And, we have a bone to pick with Anna...that hasn't been addressed until now! Then, Rory calling Mitchum...WOW! See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Firefly Episode 2 "The Train Job"/Bunheads Episode 2 "For Fanny"Lots of similarities this week including one very obvious one. We're treated to the same guest star in both episodes, playing two very different characters. There's also a smaller connection, in that Firefly's location of the week has a very similar name to the setting of Bunheads. We've got charcters who are feeling kind of useless, trying to figure out their next move. We've ladies in both episodes casually doing a friend's hair. Oh, and don't forget the implied dismemberment. Plus we had another recent movie-going experience ruined by an old woman!Want more content? Sing up for our Patreon! Lawyer, queer civil rights advocate, and reality TV star Preston Mitchum is unapologetically Black, and we're here for it! Mitchum is a fan favorite on Bravo's Summer House: Martha's Vineyard, and he dishes about his reality TV experience, which includes the responsibility he feels to represent the Black community positively. The Ohio native also discusses the allure and exclusivity he and his friends found on Martha's Vineyard. While their adventures on the island make great TV, is Massachusetts' vacation oasis a place where outsiders can feel comfortable?See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
So… we didn't love it. We had some issues with this episode and we are not holding back. It was messy and the characters seemed weird and that was Malibu not Martha's Vineyard. But, when Mitchum barged in, that scene was intense and had us! And, Scott has excellent inside info to share about this ep!See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
He's here. Mitchum Huntzberger is here! The incredible Gregg Henry portrayed Mitchum perfectly and we're getting ALL the inside juice. We're talking father/son scenes with Matt Czuchry, going head to head in a bathroom with Ed Hermann (Richard) and of course Mitchum and Rory.Plus, you need to know what "TEAM" Gregg is on!See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
It's the Season 5 Finale and WE ARE ALL IN! Is Lorelai right? Is Rory making a huge mistake?Have Emily and Richard betrayed Lorelai more than ever this time? Should Rory pick herself up, forget Mitchum's comments, and get back to Yale? Did Mrs. Kim shock us!? What do we think is really behind Lorelai's impromptu proposal? We're laughing, we're crying, we're arguing, we're debating, we're swooning, we're critiquing, we're admiring, we're loving this finale!See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

So much to discuss! As we approach the Season 5 Finale we are discussing, debating, and disagreeing!First, are you kidding me?? No one just gets a vasectomy sprung on them the day of their child's birth! We really have a bone to pick on this same day vasectomy with no warning or discussion thing! Let's move on to Rory. Rory...we love you but really ??? You're going to throw everything away and steal a boat over some nonsense Mitchum has to say! Kirk, you saved $247,000! Way to go buddy! We're doing some math to figure out how he did it...and it's not impossible! Lorelai, you look amazing in orange but rip off the band-aid and tell your mom about the article. And, have you suddenly forgiven her behavior at the re-wedding?! Feels like you have. Luke, why aren't you telling Lorelai about the house and that you want to buy it for her! Feels like too big of a thing to keep as a secret?!?! Right? Lorelai and Luke...we're analyzing your sex life. Yep, we said it. Lorelai thinks she's pregnant but doesn't really WANT to be pregnant and this really has us going at it.And, Lorelai TMI with the sex talk with your daughter. We know your BFF but...it was too much! This episode has some saucy double entendre and we like it! How much is toast going for these days? Logan, we're ok with you this episode. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Emily and Richard are the highlight of this episode.Lorelai perfected the art of "sitting" and we have a hot take on what the future 'could' hold.Rory on the other hand, was not herself in at least two scenes. And, we don't like it.Logan has some real highs and lows in this episode. And, a questionable outfit choice! We've got thoughts on Paris, Mitchum, and onions in martinis!See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
And we're back! Meet the Parents...EEK! The Huntzbergers are a handful, to say the least. We're finding some real similarities between The Gilmores and The Huntzbergers. We love seeing Luke out of the diner and in the Dragonfly Kitchen! How does he make those lamb chops? Paris and Doyle are back and perfect. We're in to this couple and explain why. On the other hand, we have Rory and Logan. We are nervous, we are concerned by the choices, and we just don't know if this relationship is a good idea. Finally, would you take that job if Mitchum offered it to you??!??!See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
