We're back with some more Gilmore Girls! Join us in this journey on social media - @gilmorethemerrierpod. ABOUT: GILMORE GIRLS (SEASON 1 EPISODE 14 & 15) Episode 14 - When Lorelai loses Rory's baby chick, she invites Luke over to help her search the house; Rory surprises Dean with a traditional home-cooked meal. Episode 15 - When Rory's father makes an unexpected visit, he awakens long-buried feelings of passion in Lorelai, as well as inspiring anger in Lorelai's parents. AIR DATE & NETWORK FOR: GILMORE GIRLS (SEASON 1 EPISODE 14 & 15) Episode 14 - February 22, 2001 | The WB Episode 15 - March 1, 2001 | The WB CAST & CREW OF: GILMORE GIRLS (SEASON 1 EPISODE 14 & 15) Lauren Graham as Lorelai Gilmore Alexis Bledel as Rory Gilmore BRAN'S GILMORE GIRLS (SEASON 1 EPISODE 14 & 15) SYNOPSIS We kick things off with Dean coming over for movie night. It does not go well because it comes out that Dean wants a woman who will cook for him while watching the Donna Reed show. At Luke's, Lorelai suggests that he paint the diner. He doesn't like painting. She does and offers to help, so he takes her up on the offer because HE LOVESSSSS HER. The next day, Rory is asked by Babette to house sit for the night because they just got a new kitten. She agrees and goes to ask Dean to come over but they argue about Donna Reed so that's a no go on the coming over. Rory has a baby chick that she brings home and asks Lorelai to keep an eye on it while she cat sits. She says ok and then promptly goes to Luke's to start planning the painting. The sparks between these two. When she gets back home, the chick is gone! She calls Luke and is like come over, a chick is loose. He assumes that means something else, not an actual chick being loose. He runs over and ends up finding the chick. Rory decides to make up with Dean by having a Donna Reed night, complete with her making him steak and taters. They have a great night together with Rory playing housekeeper for her boy. Luke finds the chick and goes to take some trash out at the same time as Dean taking trash out. It's a whole thing. Lorelai helps Luke get the paint and they set a date to paint. Suddenly, Christopher rolls up on his hog. Oh, who's Christopher? It's Rory's dad and he's going to be staying for a couple days much to Lorelai's chagrin. That night, he tells Lorelai he thinks he's really close to having his business stuff really take off and he wants to be more a part of Rory's life. Emily catches wind that Christopher is in town, so she wants to have him come over for Friday dinner along with Christopher's parents. To say that this dinner doesn't go well would be an understatement. Christopher's dad calls Lorelai out in front of everyone and blames her for derailing Christopher's life. Richard kicks them out. Feeling like her dad finally stood up for her, she goes to thank him. Richard explains he didn't do it for her, it was for the Gilmore name. And they get in a huge argument. She goes out on her bedroom balcony and so does Christopher. Naturally, they roll around on the cement ground. While all that's happening, Luke is waiting for her at the diner to paint. He's sad. I'm sad. We're all sad. The next day, she wakes up and remembers she promised Luke. She goes down to apologize and he's clearly hurt. When she gets back to her house, Christopher says he wants to marry her. They argue and she says no. So on his hog he goes. Rory finds out that she said no to his proposal and she gets kinda sad. She just wants her parents to be married. She goes to paint Luke's all by herself. They're back to being good. What does it look like to pursue kingdom justice and mercy in a deeply divided cultural moment? In this episode of the Collective Leadership Podcast, Interim District Superintendent Omar Niebles and Kingdom Justice and Mercy Coordinator Jasmine Young sit down with Rev. Phil Gilmore, lead pastor of Saint John's Community Baptist Church in Newark, NJ.With over 25 years in pastoral ministry — serving the same neighborhood where he grew up — Phil shares how his church and city come together across differences to meet real needs, from food distribution to workforce development. The conversation dives into the challenges pastors face navigating divisive cultural and political conversations, the importance of maintaining a prophetic voice rooted in Scripture rather than partisan allegiance, and how the church can engage issues of poverty, immigration, and justice without losing its identity in Christ.Phil also shares practical wisdom on having hard conversations with grace, encouraging believers to approach others with a posture of education over judgment — and challenges all of us to consider what it means to be "purple" in a red-and-blue world.Whether you're a pastor wrestling with how to lead through division or a believer trying to stay rooted in the kingdom, this conversation will encourage and challenge you.

Co-Host Lisa Arch joins us with our guest, Stan Zimmerman. From a supportive teacher who first recognized his talent to writing some of television's most beloved episodes, Stan Zimmerman's journey is a testament to passion, persistence, and perfect timing. He sets it all out in his new book 'The Girls: From Golden to Gilmore,' which draws from journals he has kept religiously since college, offering a deeply personal look at a life lived inside television history. In a conversation both heartfelt and hilarious, Stan reflects on how he took school theater as seriously as if it were big time show biz, because to him, it was. Theater kids were his tribe, and storytelling was already his calling. That destiny led him to Hollywood, where in his early 20s, at meeting that had not gone well, on his way out the door, he pitched a Hail Mary Golden Girls story idea that launched his career. The episode he co-wrote with his writing partner, Jim Berg is titled “Blanche and the Younger Man.” It earned the team a Writers Guild nomination and carved the trailhead for a groundbreaking career path.  Working in the 1980s during the height of the AIDS crisis, Stan recalls how even in Hollywood many people were still in the closet, and that while building career relationships, on a show that would become a gay obsession, he felt pressure to hide his personal life. We also hear stories that could only happen in show business: hanging out with Sandra Bernhard when an answering machine message from Madonna sparked the beginning of their friendship; witnessing Estelle Getty struggle with early-onset dementia on set, and later realizing that Betty White's jokes to the studio audience, which he thought were at Estelle's expense, may have been acts of quiet kindness, allowing Estelle space to recover her lines.Stan reflects on the enduring legacy of The Golden Girls, a show whose cultural impact he couldn't have imagined while he was in the writers' room. He talks about passing on season one of Roseanne because of a five-year contract commitment, only to later campaign to join the writing staff. (The story behind the “13” on his shirt traces back to that turbulent chapter of his career.) He explains how Roseanne was never about chasing laughs, a lesson that became clear when he later helped develop a Russian adaptation where producers kept asking why it wasn't funnier.Stan also discusses his longtime friendship with Dan and Amy Sherman-Palladino and how creative circles overlap in surprising ways that found him on the team creating episodes of The Gilmore Girls. And he shares a moving story about working on a Dreamgirls benefit show which almost derailed over stewing conflicts until Stan suggested that Sheryl Lee Ralph, Loretta Devine and Jennifer Holiday just talk, on stage, about their shared history… Suddenly, they were singing. Stan's stories will inspire you to problem solve, dream and achieve. In recommendations --Lisa: The Later Daters on NetlflixWeezy: Take That miniseries on NetflixPath Points of InterestStan ZimmermanThe Girls: From Golden To Gilmore by Stan ZimmermanStan Zimmerman on IMDBStan Zimmerman on WikipediaStan Zimmerman on FacebookStan Zimmerman on InstagramGolden Girls: The Ultimate Fan ExperienceMedia Path Interview with Michael FishmanLater DatersTake That  Documentary Series

The town meetings are must-see TV. Coming up is the reenactment of the Battle of Stars Hollow, and everyone is completely locked in — except Luke, who just wants to get to actual town issues. It's a whole thing. Classic Stars Hollow. The first snow of the season is coming, and Lorelai is pumped. She loves snow and claims she can smell it. She jumps out of bed to listen to a new voicemail from Max Medina. The next day, Rory is hanging out with Lane before school. Lane is trying to tell her about her crush, but Rory is too distracted by school and Dean to really listen. The snow starts coming down, so Emily invites Rory to stay the night at her grandparents' house.Back in Stars Hollow, Lorelai is out enjoying the snow when she bumps into Max Medina, whose car has broken down in town. His bad luck turns into good luck because they finally get to go on that date.Meanwhile, Lane is losing her mind and touches her crush's hair. She runs to the Gilmore house to tell Rory, only to find Rory isn't there. She calls to complain about her best friend never being around — and then the phones go dead.Lorelai and Max grab burgers, go to a movie, and end up kissing! On the walk home, Luke sees the two of them together while he's out helping the freezing reenactors. Now Luke is sad.Lorelai and Max end up back at her place and are about to hook up when Lane walks out of Rory's room needing someone to talk to. Lorelai lets Lane crash at the house, which means no fun times — so Max ends up sleeping on the couch.Rory shows up early the next morning, and Lorelai rushes to tell her about Max before she walks in. Rory is struggling with it, especially after spending the night at her grandparents' house where she finds a photo strip of her mom and dad together. At the next Friday night dinner, Lorelai learns about the Chilton Formal. Emily insists Rory is going. Rory isn't so sure at first, but on the way home she decides she wants to go. She asks Dean, who isn't thrilled because he's “not a joiner,” but eventually agrees when he realizes how much it means to her.Emily is shocked to find out Lorelai is making Rory's dress — which she hates.Tristan asks Rory to the dance and Rory is like, absolutely not.Lorelai throws out her back while working on the dress, but finishes it anyway. On dance night, Emily shows up to take pictures and ends up insisting she stay to take care of Lorelai when she realizes her back is hurt.Rory and Dean arrive at the dance and it's a whole thing. Paris is there with her cousin, who hits on Rory. Tristan picks a fight with Dean, and Dean threatens to kill him — and honestly, everyone loves it.Afterward, Rory and Dean are walking back through town and naturally fall asleep at Miss Patty's dance studio.Emily wakes Lorelai up in a panic, convinced Rory is going to end up pregnant, and they get into a massive fight. After kicking Emily out, Lorelai freaks out when Rory finally shows up and tells her she's putting her on the pill. Rory apologizes, but also points out that Lorelai is only this mad because Emily was there to see everything. Craving a car fix without a road trip? We spin a different kind of tour: five destination-worthy automotive museums that chart the arc from brass era pioneers to Hollywood legends, then we put a cutting-edge EV under the microscope. Our journey starts with the sprawling Gilmore campus and rolls through Tacoma's LeMay, LA's Petersen, and the Henry Ford's sweeping narrative of innovation before landing at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum, where racing history crackles from every display. With that heritage fresh in mind, we jump into the driver's seat of the 2026 Polestar 4 dual motor. Think 544 horsepower, a sleek profile, and one audacious choice: no rear window. We talk through the consequences of camera-only rear visibility, a panoramic roof that relies on electrochromic dimming, and a minimalist cabin anchored by a 15.4-inch screen. It's clean, modern, and quick, but we weigh the trade-offs—less tactile control and more eyes-off-road moments—alongside real-world charging needs, range, and pricing that parks it in Model Y and Ioniq territory. To round it out, we tip our hats to the unsung infrastructure that makes every drive possible: America's longest tunnels, from the Hudson crossings to Colorado's high-altitude Eisenhower bore and Boston's Ted Williams. It's a look at how engineering ambition underpins car culture, whether you're walking museum floors or merging into traffic. If you love the intersection of history, design, and modern EV realities, this one's for you. Leadership and the Front Line Workforce: Lessons from the Targets of Change with Gilmore Crosby

Speak Like a Leader

Play Episode Listen Later Jan 26, 2026 49:48

In this episode of Live Like a Leader, I sit down with organizational development expert Gil Crosby (https://www.crosbyod.com/) to explore timeless principles for change, leadership, and frontline empowerment. Learn why most “programs” fail, how to balance authority with freedom, and how leaders can unlock performance by listening to the people closest to the work.Gil Crosby has been an Organization Development Professional since 1984. He applies the Social Science of Kurt Lewin to help organizations navigate change and improve performance, as the same principles apply in both business and society. He is also a Professor at the Leadership Institute of Seattle, and he has just published his 7th book, Leadership and the Front-Line Workforce, for anyone in an organization. Here's what we get into: Kurt Lewin's social science—and why it still worksGil explains Lewin's core insight: when people who live with the problem talk it through together, design solutions that make sense to them, and test them, change actually sticks. Whether it's improving productivity in a plant or reducing violence in a community, people implement what they help shape. Why “forcing best practices” often failsWe talk about how organizations take something like Lean or the Toyota Production System and try to copy-paste it—usually by forcing compliance. Gil highlights what gets left out: at Toyota, when a worker stops the line, the supervisor's first response is “Thank you.” That level of respect and engagement is the point—and when it's missing, the system becomes just another top-down “program of the month.” A perfect frontline story: the Channel Locks lessonGil tells an incredible example from a manufacturing plant: management tried to reduce theft by making workers check out channel locks (basic tools used constantly), which slowed production every time someone needed one. When we asked the obvious question—what does downtime cost compared to a $15 tool?—The plant manager immediately changed course: “Tomorrow, we're putting channel locks everywhere.”And the best part? Once workers saw leadership was actually listening, they didn't steal them. Trust went up, friction went down, and productivity improved. Empowerment isn't “nice”—it's operationalI share why bad customer service drives me crazy (including what I've seen in Slovakia), and the pattern underneath it: people on the front line aren't empowered to make decisions. If the people closest to the work can't act, everything bottlenecks—and leadership often doesn't even know what's broken. Battlefield leadership and “commander's intent.”We connect this to military lessons: when leaders hoard information and control, people suffer. When teams understand the goal and the intent, they can make smarter decisions in real time. That's true in combat, and it's true in business. Democracy vs. autocracy—at work and in societyGil shares Lewin's conclusion that hit me hard: every generation has to learn how to be effective democratic citizens, because democracy isn't self-sustaining. The same is true inside organizations: if people aren't taught how to think, participate, and take ownership, you'll get passivity… or rebellion. The leadership sweet spot: structure + freedomOne of my favorite parts: Gil breaks leadership down as a balance of structure and freedom.People need clarity, information, accountability, and guidance. They also need autonomy and space to think.Too much control creates compliance-without-commitment. Too little structure turns into leaderless chaos. Meetings, fear, and why delegation is so hardWe talk about why leaders struggle to delegate well: endless meetings, unclear authority structures, and fear—fear of upsetting someone, fear of saying no, fear of authority (often rooted way earlier than work). I share a line I coach leaders to use when they're overloaded: “I'd be happy to do that. I'm maxed out—what would you like me to deprioritize so I can take this on?” Gil's low moment, and a leadership lessonGil opens up about the Great Recession: no safety net, consulting work dried up, and he drove a taxi to survive. His takeaway is powerful: do your best, no matter the role. And don't get cocky when money is flowing, because it can stop.MY BIGGEST TAKEAWAYIf you want performance, stop trying to “roll out” solutions to people. Build solutions with them. The front line sees what leadership can't—and when you treat them like owners instead of obstacles, everything improves: morale, execution, and results. --------John Bates provides 1:1 Executive Communications Coaching, both in-person and online. Bad news for Lorelai: she must make amends with her parents to borrow the money for Rory's tuition. The money is available--with strings attached.AIR DATE & NETWORK FOR: GILMORE GIRLS (SEASON 1 EPISODE 1)October 5, 2000 | The WBCAST & CREW OF: GILMORE GIRLS (SEASON 1 EPISODE 1)Lauren Graham as Lorelai Gilmore Alexis Bledel as Rory GilmoreBRAN'S GILMORE GIRLS (SEASON 1 EPISODE 1) SYNOPSISWelcome to Stars Hollow, founded in 1779 and thriving! We meet Lorelai as she walks into Luke's Diner and asks for coffee. He tells her she has a problem because she's a coffee junkie—but there's nothing he can do about it. Why? Because he loves her. I mean… maybe not. It's the pilot. We also meet her 15-year-old daughter, Rory. While getting coffee, a random dude hits on both of them separately. Classic Gilmore Girls—so close in age they could be sisters.Lorelai heads to work at the Independence Inn, where we meet her coworkers: Michel, a rude French man who runs the front desk, and Sookie St. James, the wildly talented and chaotic chef—and Lorelai's best friend. Sookie dreams of one day owning an inn with Lorelai.Meanwhile, Rory is hanging out with her best friend, Lane Kim. They're discussing an upcoming hayride that Lane's mom is forcing her to attend in hopes of setting her up with the son of one of her friends. Then Lorelai gets BIG news: Rory has been accepted to the ultra-exclusive prep school, Chilton. This is huge, because it makes Rory's dream of going to Harvard that much more possible. Lorelai tells Rory, and she is pumped. But the joy doesn't last long. Lorelai finds out how much Chilton costs—and it's a lot. They need the money immediately, or Rory can't start on Monday. There's only one option, and it's the worst one: asking her wealthy parents for help. Lorelai shows up at their house, and it's immediately clear the relationship is rocky. They agree to pay—but on one condition: weekly dinners with Lorelai and Rory. Lorelai reluctantly agrees. At school, Rory is packing up her things when she bumps into Dean, the new kid from Chicago. They talk, and Rory quickly starts to like him, despite the extremely concerning fact that he admits he watches her every day because she's “nice to look at.” Sir.After a sweet afternoon with Dean, Rory tells Lorelai she's not sure she wants to go to Chilton anymore. Lorelai is confused and upset, but it suddenly clicks—it's because of a boy. Lorelai tells Rory she will not allow her to throw her life away for some random guy. Rory is going to Chilton whether she likes it or not. It's not a great night… nothing a little Macy Gray can't help. It's finally time for the first Friday night dinner, and it's a disaster. Lorelai's father, Richard, brings up Rory's dad, Christopher, and all the success he's having with his internet startup in California. Lorelai spirals. She and her mom, Emily, end up fighting in the kitchen, and Rory overhears everything—including the fact that her grandparents are paying for Chilton.By the end of the night, Rory recognizes her mom's bravery and agrees to go to Chilton. Reports indicate that Sean "Diddy" Combs allegedly spent approximately $500,000 on a "Freak Off" party in the early 2000s, which included redecorating a room in his mansion with hundreds of mirrors on the walls and ceiling to enhance the viewing experience of the event. These gatherings were characterized by extravagant expenditures on high-end food, expensive alcohol, dancers, acrobats, and sometimes live animals, contributing to the overall cost. The parties reportedly featured explicit activities, with the mirrored room designed to reflect the events occurring within. In our second segment...In November 2024, DeWitt Gilmore filed a lawsuit against Sean "Diddy" Combs and his bodyguards, alleging that they physically assaulted him outside a New York City nightclub in the summer of 1996. According to Gilmore, after exiting the club, Combs and his entourage confronted him, leading to a verbal altercation that escalated when armed members of Combs' group blocked his car and fired shots. Gilmore claims he and his friends narrowly escaped the scene by accelerating through traffic. Combs' representatives have dismissed the allegations as "pure fiction," expressing confidence that the judicial process will reveal the truth.(commercial at 9:05)to contact me:bobbycapucci@protonmail.comsource:Exclusive | Diddy redecorated room with hundreds of mirrors for $500K 'Freak Off'source:Diddy sued by man for 1996 physical assault outside club

(Part 2) Today on the Path Went Chilly Robin and Jules will be covering the unsolved case of a bomber who used a homemade "zip gun" device in their attacks in the early 1980s and 1990s: the name 'bomber' is a bit of a misnomer, since there is technically no bomb but more likely a product of the time period. Here is a Google AI summary of the cases covered: First Incident (1982): A package containing an explosive device was mailed to Joan Kipp in North Castle, New York. She opened the package, which was disguised as a cookbook, and was killed. Today on the Path Went Chilly Robin and Jules will be covering the unsolved case of a bomber who used a homemade "zip gun" device in their attacks in the early 1980s and 1990s: the name 'bomber' is a bit of a misnomer, since there is technically no bomb but more likely a product of the time period. Here is a Google AI summary of the cases covered: First Incident (1982): A package containing an explosive device was mailed to Joan Kipp in North Castle, New York. She opened the package, which was disguised as a cookbook, and was killed. The device contained a homemade firearm, or "zip gun", triggered by opening the package.Subsequent Incidents (1993): Eleven years later, the bomber struck again, sending more mail bombs to different individuals. One target, Anthony Lenza, was away on vacation, but the bomb shot and injured his children when they opened the package. Another bomb seriously injured Alice Caswell, who opened a package addressed to her brother, Richard McGarrel.Victims/Targets: The five intended victims were Joan Kipp (who died), Anthony Lenza, Richard McGarrel, a "Gilmore or Resident," and Richard Basile's wife. There's a ubiquitous prop in just about every police procedural and conspiracy thriller: a cork board pinned with documents, newspaper clippings, and Polaroid photos, all connected by a web of red string. They go by many names, including pin boards, string boards, evidence boards, investigation walls, conspiracy walls, and walls of crazy. These boards can be vehicles of insight or manifestations of madness—and in many cases, both. But where did they come from? And can they really solve a crime? In this episode, we try to unwind the red string board all the way to its center. To aide in our investigation, we enlist the help of Aki Peritz, a former CIA analyst and the author of Disruption: Inside the Largest Counterterrorism Investigation in History. You'll also hear from Shawn Gilmore, editor of The Vault of Culture and creator of the Narrative String Theory project; and Dr. Anne Ganzert, author of Serial Pinboarding in Contemporary Television. And we learn about the intricacies of building a string board from production designers Michael Scott Cobb (It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia) and John D. Kretschmer (Homeland). This episode was written and produced by Evan Chung, Decoder Ring's supervising producer. It was edited by Willa Paskin. Decoder Ring is also produced by Katie Shepherd and Max Freedman.
