Halloween is NEVER over! H4H decided to keep the bone dance going for a few more days to raise our spirits! We survived the weirdness of Halloween 2020 and now we're in the final stretches of the Year the Wouldn't Die. H4H is doing a Horror Double Feature with two podcasts of extended conversations with horror enthusiasts and creators! Part Two is a stream-of-consciousness conversation with the filmmaking team of Amy Lynn Best and Mike Watt (The Resurrection Game, Splatter Movie: The Director's Cut, Razor Days). We discuss their films and their publications (Exploitation Nation, Grindhouse Purgatory), and convention life in the indie horror world, as well as some sobering observations about the horror of the "new normal" of 2020. So grab a beverage of your choice and close your eyes and imagine yourself hanging out with us at the after-hours bar at Cinema Wasteland! I hope you enjoy the conversation and thank you for listening! Grindhouse Purgatory Episode 19 by Radiodrome --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/radiodrome/support
Oh, to have been there in the heyday of Grindhouse Cinema! Rows of theaters on New York’s 42nd Street playing classics such as I Drink Your Blood, Children Shouldn’t Play with Dead Things, Ilsa: She-Wolf of the SS, Three on a Meathook, The Corpse Grinders, and more. These movies are the stuff of cinema legend, and late night video parties...and so are the theaters and audiences that experienced them! And our guest today, 42nd Street Pete Chiarella, was there for the highs and lows (and sleazy lowdowns) of it all. Pete, the creator of Grindhouse Purgatory magazine, has lots of stories to tell, and he was kind enough to join me to talk about the filmmakers, the movies, The Deuce, and the Lost Hustler Spirit of New York City. I invite you to listen in, and experience some real Grindhouse legend. Take a hilarious trip through the gory, sexy, sleazy history of 'The Deuce" of the 1970's with tour guide 42nd Street Pete!
