SCHEDULE FOR THE JOHN BATCHELOR SHOW, 7-22-2026.1740 BATAVIA MASSACREGordon Chang and Rick Fisher examine Xi Jinping's introduction of the World Artificial Intelligence Cooperation Organization (WAICO), designed to establish Chinese dominance in setting global AI rules. Headquartered in Shanghai, the group aims to make international partners dependent on Chinese technology while promoting anti-democratic values. Meanwhile, China's economy is struggling, with real growth potentially near zero. Despite manufacturing strengths, China remains vulnerable due to a critical lack of high-end Nvidia chips required for advanced AI development. (1)Gordon Chang and Peter Huessy discuss the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) bill to drastically reduce the U.S. nuclear triad, including cutting ICBMs from 400 to 150. Supported by Senators Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren, the plan effectively promotes unilateral disarmament. Critics argue this trashes the concept of nuclear deterrence just as China and Russia expand their arsenals. Furthermore, there is a widespread "miseducation" of Americans regarding the necessity of a modernized nuclear deterrent. (2)Gordon Chang and Victoria Coates report that Iran has activated the Houthis to attack the Bab el-Mandeb strait, a critical choke point for Saudi Arabian oil exports. This escalation has pushed oil prices past $95 as the Houthis use Iranian-supplied missiles and drones to harass shipping. While the House of Saud is targeted, internal frictions between Saudi Arabia and the UAE complicate a unified regional response. The conflict represents a major humanitarian and economic disaster for global commerce. (3)Gordon Chang and Victoria Coates continue: China benefits from discounted Iranian oil but views the regime's economic instability as a "bad debt." Simultaneously, Saudi Arabia is deepening its partnership with the U.S. through a landmark nuclear cooperation deal. Iraq has also signaled a shift toward Washington, signing $60 billion in energy deals with American companies like Chevron. While Russia seeks to sell extra capacity to Asia, Ukrainian strikes on refineries may hinder Putin's ability to remain a reliable energy supplier. (4)Peter Earle traces how the word "trillion" entered the economic lexicon in 1981 when the U.S. passed $1 trillion in public debt. Today, the U.S. national debt approaches $40 trillion, with annual interest payments exceeding $1 trillion. Unlike 19th-century millionaires who faced high risks, modern trillion-dollar figures are often a product of government monetary expansion. We have entered "Trillionstan," where massive quantities of money are common, yet their long-term significance is often overlooked by the public. (5)Peter Earle argues that not all trillions are equal; some represent genuine wealth creation, such as SpaceX's $2 trillion valuation based on future technological potential. However, inflation and government borrowing have also inflated nominal values, potentially leading to a fiscal reckoning. If creditors lose faith in U.S. debt, the government may be forced to print more money, further devaluing the currency. Maintaining prosperity requires ensuring that economic forces focus on creating new wealth rather than merely redistributing it. (6)Henry Sokolski warns that the Trump administration's nuclear deal with Saudi Arabia allows the kingdom to enrich uranium, a process that can easily be diverted for bomb-making. Saudi Arabia has rejected the "additional protocol" for rigorous UN inspections, raising concerns about their true intentions. This "black box" arrangement lacks sufficient safeguards to prevent a rapid diversion of nuclear materials. Critics warn that providing enrichment technology to an ally involved in regional warfare is inherently delusional and dangerous. (7)Henry Sokolski continues: the Saudi nuclear deal could trigger a proliferation race, with nations like Egypt, Turkey, and the UAE demanding similar enrichment rights. Furthermore, allies such as South Korea and Poland may reconsider their own nuclear ambitions if they view American security guarantees as insufficient. Proliferation is no longer "old news" but a growing threat as nations seek their own deterrents. The result is a destabilized global order where multiple states hover on the verge of nuclear weapon status. (8)Michael Bernstam explains how Ukrainian drone strikes have destroyed 30% of Russia's refining capacity, causing the "crack spread"—the profit margin for refining oil—to triple worldwide. While Russia exports crude, it now suffers from severe domestic shortages of gasoline and jet fuel. Consequently, Russia is forced to buy back its own refined oil from India at premium prices. Putin has been "hoist on his own petard," creating a global energy weapon that has ultimately turned against the Russian economy. (9)Michael Bernstam reports that Ukrainian drones recently destroyed major distribution hubs for Wildberries, the Russian equivalent of Amazon, causing $2 billion in damage. These strikes have devastated small businesses and middle-class consumers, fueling internal resentment against the Kremlin. Simultaneously, 18 local Russian officials signed a petition calling for Putin's resignation as economic conditions worsen. The loss of consumer infrastructure and rising fuel costs are creating a constituency for ending the war to prevent a total economic collapse. (10)Bob Zimmerman reports that SpaceX is preparing for its 13th Starship flight, a prototype featuring major upgrades for future orbital missions and in-orbit refueling. In India, the startup Skyroot achieved a landmark success with the Vikram-1 rocket, signaling the rise of a private, capitalist space sector. However, the Indian government has counterproductively restricted ISRO employees from leaving for private firms. These contrasting approaches highlight the tension between state-run agencies and the efficiency of private enterprise in the global space race. (11)Bob Zimmerman surveys new discoveries: astronomers have detected a helium atmosphere on a terrestrial exoplanet located 48 light-years away in its star's habitable zone. Closer to home, archival data from Pluto reveals massive landslides, proving the dwarf planet is geologically active rather than dormant. Meanwhile, new images of Valles Marineris on Mars illustrate the canyon's staggering scale, with depths equivalent to the height of Mount McKinley. These discoveries emphasize that planetary bodies across our solar system are dynamic and evolving. (12)Simon Constable notes European energy prices are skyrocketing, with Brent crude hitting $95 and natural gas up 47% in a single month. In France, a heatwave and suspicious forest fires have added environmental stress to the economic crisis. A political movement in the U.S. is targeting data centers for their high energy consumption, which now exceeds 4% of usage. Surprisingly, the United Kingdom hosts the second-highest number of data centers globally, despite its historical association with "Luddite" skepticism. (13)Simon Constable observes that new British Prime Minister Andy Burnham faces immediate skepticism, with polls indicating nearly half of voters feel his government lacks direction. Burnham's focus on domestic issues like capping bus prices is criticized as a "tax and spend" policy that might alienate the wealthy. While he has emphasized national security, his early days have been defined by local populist initiatives. Critics worry his leadership style mimics a "Lord Mayor" rather than a strategic global prime minister. (14)Brandy Shufutinsky details how Qatar has provided extensive grants for Arabic language and culture programs in U.S.K-12 schools. These programs often utilize textbooks that omit Israel from maps and glorify extremist ideologies. Qatar Foundation International (QFI) even funds teacher salaries and work visas, raising concerns about who these educators truly report to. This funding creates a "pipeline" from elementary school to higher education, potentially instilling foreign-influenced perspectives in future generations of American citizens. (15)Conrad Black argues that Canada's economic growth has stalled due to high corporate taxes and "climate alarmist" policies under the Trudeau government. He suggests that new leadership under Mark Carney could revitalize the nation by making it more tax-competitive with the U.S. Canada's vast resources and skilled workforce provide the potential for a rapid rebound. For Canada to succeed, it must pivot back to pro-capitalist policies and attract foreign investment to drive future growth. (16)Two spelling corrections applied: Peter Earle (5, 6 — transcribed as "Pete Earl"; the AIER economist) and Brandy Shufutinsky (15 — transcribed as "Shubatinsky"). Both added to the log unless you'd prefer otherwise.
Criminal Mischief The Pike County Massacre – Episode Two: The House of Wagner For more than two years, investigators searched for the people responsible for one of the most shocking mass murders in modern American history. The evidence was painstakingly collected, hundreds of interviews were conducted, and countless theories—from drug cartels to family feuds—were examined. Yet as detectives slowly assembled the pieces, one family kept appearing at the center of the puzzle. The Wagners. In this second episode, Carolyn Ossorio follows the investigation as law enforcement begins narrowing its focus to a family that, from the outside, appeared hardworking, successful, and deeply devoted to one another. But behind that carefully maintained image was a rigid hierarchy led by Angela Wagner—a mother whose influence over her husband and sons has become one of the most unsettling aspects of the case. As investigators dug deeper, they uncovered a family dynamic defined by loyalty, control, and an unwavering belief that blood came before everything else. Prosecutors would ultimately argue that this culture of obedience helped lay the groundwork for an unimaginable crime. This episode explores the custody dispute involving Hanna Rhoden and Jake Wagner, the mounting evidence that began pointing investigators toward the Wagner family, and the painstaking detective work that transformed suspicion into one of the largest criminal investigations in Ohio history. We also examine how years of planning, digital evidence, forensic breakthroughs, and witness interviews gradually dismantled the appearance of an ordinary Appalachian family. As the circle tightens around the Wagners, one question begins to overshadow every other: Was this simply a custody battle that spiraled into violence—or had an entire family convinced themselves that murder was the only acceptable solution? Criminal Mischief is hosted by investigative journalist Carolyn Ossorio and is part of the Evio Creative podcast network. Long before the curtain rose on one of America's oldest continuously operating theaters, the land beneath the Fulton Theatre ran red with blood. It was here, in 1763, that the last surviving members of the peaceful Conestoga people were slaughtered inside the walls of the Lancaster jail. Centuries later, actors, stagehands, and bartenders report phantom footsteps, ghostly applause, disembodied whistles, and apparitions wandering the galleries. Is the Fulton Theatre simply haunted—or are its ghosts keeping alive a history too painful to forget? Tonight, we uncover the tragic past and enduring legends of one of Pennsylvania's most haunted landmarks. Eunice Whitman and her boyfriend, Justine Paul, argued on a busy foot path crisscrossing the tundra in Bethel, Alaska. A few hours later, four teenagers stumbled upon Eunice's naked body stretched out on the ground. Someone had stabbed her multiple times and slashed her throat. Then, they'd folded her clothes and left them a short distance from her body. The police quickly arrested Justine Paul for Eunice's murder. When they found a backpack full of bloody clothes in his home, and footprints in the mud near Eunice's body resembling the tread on Paul's shoes, the prosecutors raced the case to the grand jury, which indicted Paul on first-degree murder. Unfortunately, this was the only time anything was ever done quickly in this case. When the blood test results from Paul's stained clothes came back from the lab, they surprised the police and the prosecution, but the state refused to drop charges, and Paul languished in jail for seven years waiting for his case to go to trial. ______________ Now Available! Criminal Mischief The Piketon Massacre: Bloodline (Part One) On the morning of April 22, 2016, the quiet farming community of Piketon, Ohio awoke to one of the most shocking murder scenes in modern American history. Eight members of the Rhoden family, spanning multiple generations, were found executed across four separate homes in a rural corner of Pike County. Some were discovered in their beds. Others had been shot at close range while sleeping. Three young children—including an infant just days old—were found alive inside the homes, somehow spared while nearly everyone around them had been systematically murdered. It was a crime scene unlike anything investigators had ever encountered. In this opening chapter of our multi-part investigation, Carolyn Ossorio takes you back to those first chaotic hours through original police interviews, emergency dispatch recordings, and courtroom testimony, reconstructing the terrifying discovery exactly as investigators experienced it. Who found the victims? How could eight members of the same family be murdered in a single night without anyone hearing—or stopping—it? And why did detectives immediately suspect this wasn't simply a murder... ...but an execution? Part One follows investigators as they identify each victim, piece together the timeline of the killings, and begin searching for a killer—or killers—who have vanished into the hills of southern Ohio. By the end of this episode, the victims have names. The crime scenes have been documented. But the people responsible remain free. In This Episode • The quiet rural community of Pike County before the murders. • The first 911 calls and the discovery of the victims. • Police body camera audio, interviews, and courtroom recordings. • The lives of the eight Rhoden family members. • Why investigators immediately believed the murders were carefully planned. • The first hours of one of the largest homicide investigations in Ohio history. Part Two continues the investigation as detectives begin uncovering motives, family conflicts, and a custody battle that would eventually expose one of the most astonishing murder conspiracies in modern true crime history.

Western month begins here. Lucio Fulci's Massacre Time (1966) arrived in the wake of Django riding a wave of Italian genre fever, and it announced something different lurking inside the spaghetti Western: a director with a genuine appetite for cruelty. Franco Nero plays Tom Corbett, a gold prospector summoned back to a hometown now wholly owned by the Scott family — their name on every building, their violence on every street corner. Waiting for him is his brother Jeff (George Hilton), drinking himself to death, and Junior Scott (Nino Castelnuovo), a white-suited sadist with a bullwhip and nowhere near enough supervision.Mike White, Spencer Parsons, and Joe Odber dig into Fulci's pre-horror career, Fernando Di Leo's crime-inflected screenplay, the film's feudal vision of capitalism, and the charged dynamics of the Scott family — Oedipal, theatrical, and deeply strange. They also trace Junior's lineage forward to a certain plantation dandy in a white suit.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-projection-booth--5513239/support.Become a supporter of The Projection Booth at http://www.patreon.com/projectionbooth

This week on Eavesdroppin' comedy podcast, Geordie & Michelle head to Nepal to unpack one of the most shocking and controversial royal stories of modern times...On 1 June 2001, a routine Friday night family dinner at the Narayanhiti Royal Palace ended in unimaginable tragedy when King Birendra, Queen Aishwarya and seven other members of the Nepalese royal family were mercilessly gunned down - but by whom? The official investigation concluded that King BIrendra's son, the Crown Prince Dipendra, carried out the massacre before dying from his own injuries — but for many, that explanation raised as many questions as it answered, leading to the conspiracy theories that refuse to go away. Diving in, Geordie looks at the claims of palace intrigue and political cover-ups and an eerie legend dating back to 1769 that foretold the downfall of Nepal's Shah dynasty after ten generations. Robert Cwiklik, guest author, explains that following the 1866 massacres, Congress passed the Reconstruction Act of 1867, imposing military rule and requiring new state constitutions that enfranchised Black men. This era saw the rise of "carpetbaggers"—Northern Republicans who moved south and were elected by newly empowered Black voters—and the implementation of progressive policies like public education. Despite these gains, tensions escalated as white Southerners resented the resulting higher land taxes and political displacement. Ulysses S. Grant emerged as a unifying Republicanfigure, but the 1872 Louisiana election triggered a catastrophic dispute over the legitimacy of the vote. This culminated in the 1873 Colfax Massacre, where white vigilantes slaughtered at least 70 Black people on the Red River. This event remains one of the bloodiest racial massacres in U.S. history, demonstrating that even with federal intervention, the struggle for control over Southern governance remained lethal and unresolved. Attacked by Bigfoot? The Moss Mountain Massacre Revisited - Gather ‘round now, and keep that fire stoked hot. Have you ever heard the true story of the Moss Mountain Massacre? History books will tell you that Thomas Nuttall's 1819 expedition up the Arkansas River was met with tragedy due to malaria and rogue animal attacks. But the old river rats and indigenous tribes know the dark truth. It wasn't a bear that tore those men apart on Halloween night in the choking river fog. It was something much older, much larger, and far more sinister. Locals call it the Moss Mountain Booger. And folks, it might still be out there .In tonight's episode, we are diving deep into the blood-soaked soil of the Arkansas river bottoms. We'll explore Nuttall's suppressed journals, the terrifying riverboat encounter of 1924, and the modern-day warnings left behind by the massive, bipedal beasts that rule the mist. If you're ever visiting the beautiful, manicured farms of Moss Mountain today... you best be gone before the sun goes down.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/missing-persons-mysteries--5624803/support.
Ronald White, guest author, explains that the 20th Maine's early service was defined by the grim realities of warfare, from the massacre at Fredericksburg to a debilitating smallpox outbreak caused by defective vaccination serum within the camp. By June 1863, the regiment was forced on grueling 30-mile marches toward Gettysburg under oppressive summer heat. On the second day of the battle, Chamberlain received desperate orders to hold the far left of the Unionline at Little Round Top "at all cost." Facing superior Confederate numbers and having exhausted his unit's ammunition, Chamberlain executed a legendary bayonet charge that broke the enemy assault. During the chaotic melee, he personally confronted a Confederate officer at gunpoint, taking his pistol as the position was secured. Though he suffered from malaria following the victory, his leadership at Gettysburg cemented his reputation as a tactical hero who saved the Union flank. Michael Vorenberg explains that on August 20, 1866, Johnson proclaimed the insurrection over to strip Congress of its war powers. Despite ongoing massacres in Memphis and New Orleans, Johnson tried to suppress reports of violence to maintain a "peace" narrative. The Supreme Court later affirmed this technical end date. Superstitions swirl around boats, and some captains believe bizarre myths. Renaming a vessel remains foremost among the maritime harbingers of bad luck, and if you dare change the name of your boat, you must follow a strict protocol to avoid certain doom. The Clara Nevada did not even complete her maiden voyage under her new name. Is this boat the case study to prove the truth of the old mariner's superstition, or did her captain plot her demise? On February 5, 1898, the SS Clara Nevada departed Skagway, Alaska, headed for Juneau and then Seattle. Hurricane-force winds of 90 knots (100 mph 161 km/h) pummeled the vessel with following seas of twelve to fifteen feet (4-5 m) as the helmsman attempted to navigate the infamous Lynn Canal of Alaska's Inside Passage. When the decrepit old ship reportedly struck a rock and sank, the news surprised no one. Searchers found the body of only one man, the ship's purser, but news reports stated that no one survived such a horrific accident. The loss of the Clara Nevada at first seemed a tragic but foreseeable accident, and no one doubted the negligence of the ship's owners and captain. Before long, though, folks began asking questions, and the Seattle newspapers speculated wildly about the disaster. Crewmen believed to have died in the wreck turned up alive and well. Even the captain materialized and wasted little time beginning his next venture to ferry prospectors to the goldfields. Sources: Levi, Steven C. The Clara Nevada; Gold, Greed, Murder and Alaska's Inside Passage. 2011. History Press. This book was my main source for this article. It covers the sinking of the Clara Nevada and the exploits of Captain C.H. Lewis in much more detail than I've included here. The author also describes the challenges involved in trying to research a maritime disaster in Alaska in the late 1800s. I highly recommend this book to anyone who would like to learn more about the Clara Nevada or get a feel for the atmosphere in both Seattle and Skagway during the Klondike gold rush. In this episode, we step into one of the darkest chapters of clan history: the Massacre of Eigg. Reading directly from Stuart McHardy's The Well of the Heads, we tell the story of the Smooring of the MacDonalds — the moment invading MacLeods cornered the MacDonalds of ClanRanald hiding in a sea cave on the Isle of Eigg and killed nearly the entire population of the island by lighting brush fires at the cave mouth and suffocating everyone inside. After reading the story straight from the source, we break down a few key details worth a closer look — which MacLeods and which MacDonalds? The importance of Eigg in the history of the Hebrides, and whether this story ever actually took place...Links:Scottish Clans Website - www.scottishclans.infoContribute to the Cause! - https://www.patreon.com/scottishclansBattle Shirts and Clandanas! - https://stores.inksoft.com/the_scottish_clans/shop/homeIn-person or Virtual Scottish Clans Seminar! - Email at thescottishclans@gmail.comYouTube Channel - https://www.youtube.com/@thescottishclans
The Brown's Chicken massacre is remembered not just as a crime, but as a heartbreaking moment when seven ordinary people living ordinary lives never came home. On January8, 1993, two men walked into a small fast‑food restaurant in Palatine, Illinois, and shattered an entire community. By morning, families who had been waiting by the window, calling phones that would never ring, learned that their parents, children, and friends had been taken from them in an act of senseless violence. What lingers today is not the brutality, but the love those families carried forward—the way they kept telling stories, lighting candles, and saying their names so the world would remember who was lost, not just how they were taken. On Tuesday's Mark Levin Show, heavily armed TikTokers, motivated by hatred of Trump, billionaires, Israel, and Jeffrey Epstein-related conspiracies, plotted a multi-phase attack on the UFC Freedom 250 White House event using explosive drones on the South Lawn followed by sniper teams to massacre fleeing attendees. The FBI foiled the plot by infiltrating the chats after a suspect's mother alerted police over his firearm purchases and radicalization. These Woke Reich conspiracy promoters are fueling such violence, as the Woke Reich overlaps significantly with Marxist-Islamist left ideologies. Also, Israel will endure and cannot be expected to stand idle against Hezbollah attacks (fired at Iran's behest, causing deaths and injuries) while being criticized for collateral damage in the same manner as during the Gaza conflict, where experts confirmed no genocide occurred as enemies hid among civilians. Meanwhile, the suggestion of Syria replacing Israeli efforts against Hezbollah should be rejected. Later, despite joint tax filings, average annual income of $1.4 million, $450,000 in taxes, and significant expenses like domestic workers, private school, and mortgages, questions remain about funding sources from Gavin Newsom and his wife. Yet, Newsom complains that the investigation into this is political. This defense is so hypocritical – Democrats ignored the political actions against Trump. Finally, Ambassador Michael Leiter calls in and discusses the strong alliance between Prime Minister Netanyahu and President Trump, noting frequent phone calls, and deep mutual respect and friendship despite occasional civil disagreements. Media narratives of an acrimonious relationship are misleading, as they cherry-pick isolated tense moments. Leiter clarified that there is no rift between the two and acknowledged legitimate differences over a yet-unseen Iran deal. On the afternoon of July 18, 1984, James Huberty left his apartment in the San Ysidro neighborhood of San Diego, California, and drove one block over to the nearby McDonalds. After walking through the door of the restaurant, Huberty raised his Uzi semi-automatic 9mm and began indiscriminately shooting at patrons, employees, and anyone else who happened to cross into his line of sight. At the time, and for decades after, the San Ysidro McDonalds massacre was the worst mass shooting in American history, with the shooter killing twenty-one people and injuring nearly two dozen others before being struck down by a sniper's bullet. The incident lasted over an hour, during which time San Diego police and SWAT members surrounded the building, but didn't enter the building until an hour after the shooting started, when Huberty was already dead.
