Imagine being in the backwoods of Georgia with a group of neo-Nazis slaughtering a goat and drinking its blood. For Scott Payne, he doesn't have to imagine it; he lived it. He's a former undercover FBI agent, and in his new book, written with veteran journalist Michelle Shephard, he chronicles his time exposing some of America's most dangerous extremist groups. The book is called "Code Name: Pale Horse: How I Went Undercover to Expose America's Nazis." Send us a textIn this jaw-dropping episode, host Clint McNear pulls back the curtain on one of the wildest cases of his career as a Detective with the Garland Police Department. It starts with an unsolved homicide — the brutal murder of Melania Doe's grandmother, a tragic consequence of her father's dark entanglements with the criminal underworld. Her father, known on the streets as Bear, wasn't just any criminal. He was a federal informant, deep undercover inside dangerous networks, including infiltrating the notorious Outlaws motorcycle club. But the twists don't stop there. Bear's story stretches back to one of the most bizarre crimes in American history: the infamous 1977 theft of Elvis Presley's body from Forest Hill Cemetery — a political stunt tied to cemetery ordinances and outlaw retaliation. What starts as a homicide investigation unravels into a tangled web of federal operations, biker gangs, and a plot straight out of a Hollywood script. «Send A Prayer My Way» ist Sounds! Album der Woche. Elmer J. McCurdy (January 1, 1880 – October 7, 1911) was an American outlaw who was killed in a shoot-out with police after robbing a train in Oklahoma in October 1911. Dubbed "The Bandit Who Wouldn't Give Up", his mummified body was first put on display at an Oklahoma funeral home and then became a fixture on the traveling carnival and sideshow circuit during the 1920s through the 1960s. After changing ownership several times, McCurdy's remains eventually wound up at The Pike amusement zone in Long Beach, California, where they were discovered by crew members for the television series The Six Million Dollar Man and positively identified in December 1976.

On byl autorem nápadu. Did you know Hong Kong used to be a hub for pirates? That factoid has long been part of the popular history for Hong Kong—and for Southern China broadly. For centuries, Chinese pirates raided merchants and coastal communities up and down the Chinese coast, taking advantage of weak imperial rule and safe havens like what's now present-day Vietnam. Robert Antony tells the story of pirates like Zheng Yi Sao in his recent book Outlaws of the Sea: Maritime Piracy in Modern China (Hong Kong UP, 2024) Before retiring in 2019, Robert Antony was distinguished professor at Guangzhou University and recently visiting scholar at the Institute for Advanced Studies in Princeton. His recent books include Unruly People: Crime, Community, and State in Late Imperial South China (HKU Press: 2016), The Golden Age of Piracy in China, 1520-1810: A Short History with Documents (Rowman & Littlefield: 2022), and Rats, Cats, Rogues, and Heroes: Glimpses of China's Hidden Past (Rowman & Littlefield: 2023), also covered by the New Books Network. You can find more reviews, excerpts, interviews, and essays at The Asian Review of Books, including its review of Outlaws of the Sea. Follow on Twitter at @BookReviewsAsia.
