OK, “Gentle Listeners,” Dr. Walking Dead has shown up for work for us with this week's special double-feature show. In this 49th Edition of DEAD MAN STILL WALKING, your intrepid professor, Dr. Walking Dead Kyle Bishop, graciously took at least one cinematic bullet for the listeners, metaphorically speaking… The two movies that Dr. Bishop examines during this episode include the 1970s odd couple of double features, I Drink Your Blood (1971) and I Eat Your Skin (1971) — the latter, a G-rated, black-and-white movie that was actually produced in 1964. Dr. Bishop brings his usual astute analysis to these proceedings, informing us of actual onscreen murder of an animal, and therefore, which instance(s) of blood in the film is real blood. And speaking of blood, we learn about meat pies being injected with infected, rabid dog blood, thereby constituting a very early example of “the infected zombie” narrative. And Kyle even goes so far as to tell us about a Horror movie where the evil characters “treat people poorly.” And that's only his notes on the first film! Wait until you hear what he has to say about the second! Join us! Note: To view ALL of Dr. Bishop's Dead Man Still Walking solocast episodes can USE THIS LINK. And to view ALL of Dr. Bishop's episode-by-episode commentaries on The Last of Us – Season 1, with Jay of the Dead, then USE THIS LINK. Dead Man Still Walking is a biweekly, short-form solocast hosted by Dr. Walking Dead Kyle Bishop, author of American Zombie Gothic and How Zombies Conquered Popular Culture. Dr. Walking Dead also presents a popular segment called The Dead Zone on regular episodes of this podcast. For his Dead Man Still Walking solocast episodes, Dr. Bishop will focus exclusively on zombie films, with the occasional exploration of zombie-related themes, zombie television, and other zombie media (e.g., comics, literature, etc.). Dr. Bishop is an academic and professional scholar of zombie films and other zombie narratives. He has been teaching for 23 years. Dr. Bishop serves as an English professor, Film Studies professor, and he's currently the English Department Chair at Southern Utah University. Night of the Bloody Apes (1969), Don't Go in the House (1979), Butcher, Baker, Nightmare Maker (1981) In 1984, in the U.K., the Video Recording Act was passed, which required certification of all video releases by the British Board of Film Classification, aka BBFC. This all came about due to a list of video titles that a group of various religious and other social groups run by the likes of Mary Whitehouse, deemed unsuitable to be viewed and thought for sure it would help corrupt the youth of England. The initial list had 72 titles on it, both films that had already been released after obtaining a BBFC certificate but now was deemed too offensive, as well as a whole bunch of other titles that were believed to fall under the obscenity law. If you own a shop that rented or sold one of these titles, you could be shut down, fined, and possibly even go to jail for it. And this all took place, not in the dark ages, but in the mid 1980s. Hard to believe it, especially growing up here in the U.S. Some of those titles have only recently gotten passed and released over in the U.K., even 40 years later. Blows the mind. In this episode, we discuss not only the whole Video Nasty era, but cover 3 films from that list, with each of us watching all 3 and see if we made it through without turning us into mindless deviants. Oops. Too late. Films mentioned in this episode: The Bat Woman (1968), Beast in Heat (1977), The Body Snatcher (1957), The Braniac (1962), The Burning (1981), Butcher, Baker, Nightmare Maker (1981), Curse of the Crying Woman (1962), The Curious Dr. Hump (1969), Dead of Winter (1987), Doctor of Doom (1963), Don't Answer the Phone (1980), Don't Go in the House (1979), Don't Look in the Basement (1973), Don't Open Till Christmas (1984), Driller Killer (1979), Entrails of a Virgin (1986), Eyes of a Stranger (1981), Faces of Death (1978), Fear No Evil (1981), The Gestapo's Last Orgy (1977), Horror High (1973), I Drink Your Blood (1971), I Spit on Your Grave (1978), Let Sleeping Corpses Lie (1974), Maniac (1980), Mortuary (1982), Mother's Day (1980), Nekromantik (1988), New York Ripper (1982), Night of the Bloody Apes (1969), Perdita Durango (1997), The Prowler (1981), Psycho (1960), Roar (1981), Santo and Blue Demon vs. Dracula and the Wolf Man (1973), Santo and Blue Demon vs. the Monsters (1970), Santo vs. Frankenstein's Daughter (1972), Santo vs. the Head Hunters (1971), Santo in the Treasure of Dracula (1969),Santo in the Vengeance of the Mummy (1971), Shock Waves (1977), Silent Night Deadly Night (1984), Speed (1994), SS Experiment Love Camp (1976), Subspecies (1991), Suspiria (1977), Terrorvision (1986), Texas Chain Saw Massacre (1974), Twister (1996), Unhinged (1982), El Vampiro (1957), The Wresting Women vs. the Aztec Mummy (1964)

Four decades on, and Fangoria is still one of the leading voices of horror culture.  But in it's heyday in the 1980s, it was the gold standard. It wouldn't be an overstatement to say that Fangoria was the most important part of horror culture at that time.  On this episode of Discover the Horror, we take a trip through Fango's history and discuss how it shaped out love of the genre, as well as speculating on how it shaped the genre as a whole.   Movies mentioned in this episode: Accion Mutante (1993), Bad Taste (1987), The Beyond (1981), Brain Dead (1992), Conan the Barbarian (1982), Creature from the Black Lagoon (1954), The Fly (1986), Geek Maggot Bingo (1983), Godzilla (1954), I Drink Your Blood (1971), Intruder (1989), I Spit on Your Grave (1978), Motel Hell (1980), Puppet Master III (1991), Q (1982), Shriek of the Mutilated (1974), Star Wars (1977), Texas Chain Saw Massacre (1974), Videodrome (1982), Zombie (1979)

Blood Feast (1963), Two Thousand Maniacs! (1964), The Gruesome Twosome (1967), The Wizard of Gore (1970)  When Herschell Gordon Lewis made his first nudie cutie film in 1961, nobody would have expected that he'd become one of the most important names in the history of horror.  But with the release of Blood Feast just two years later, Lewis and his producing partner David F. Friedman would invent the gore subgenre and would fundamentally reshape horror as we knew and understood it. And for about a decade after it, Lewis would continue to release gore-obsessed fare to grindhouses and drive-ins across the nation.  When those sorts of theaters started to fade away in the 70s, so did Lewis, who went back to his previous career in advertising. But in the 80s and beyond his fame was resuscitated on home video and in the pages of magazines like Fangoria and Deep Red where he became known as The Godfather of Gore.  With some help from Christopher Wayne Curry, author of A Taste of Blood: The Films of Herschell Gordon Lewis, we dive into four of his films and manage to talk about a whole slew of others.  Movies mentioned in this episode: Bell, Bare and the Beautiful (1963), Blood Diner (1987), Blood Feast (1963), Blood Feast (2016), Blood Feast 2: All U Can Eat (2002), Blood Sucking Freaks (1976), Boin-n-g (1963), Color Me Blood Red (1965), Curse of Frankenstein (1957), The Gore Gore Girls (1972), Gruesome Twosome (1967), I Drink Your Blood (1971), Intolerance (1916), Jigoku (1960), Mardi Gras Massacre (1978), Moonshine Mountain (1964), Multiple Maniacs (1970), Night of the Living Dead (1968), A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984), Pit Stop (1969), Polyester (1981), Scream Baby Scream (1969), Scum of the Earth (1963), A Taste of Blood (1967), Tarantula (1955), The Texas Chain Saw Massacre (1974), Serial Mom (1994), This Stuff'll Kill Ya! Back in ancient times, before Netflix and Amazon Prime, before Hulu and YouTube, even before DVDs and Blu-rays, if films weren't available to you from either your local video stores, or if you wanted to see an uncut print of a movie, or even one that wasn't released on VHS, the place you could find them would be in fuzzy gray market of the bootlegs. These types of vendors were a staple to a lot of the early movie conventions, where fans could find titles that never even knew were out there.  Some of us are old enough to remember being able to finally see the uncut full letterboxed version of Lucio Fulci's The Beyond, after years of suffering though only being able to see the heavily edited Seven Doors of Death. As your collection grew, you would usually start trading with others, increasing your collection even more, as well as helping to spread the love and passion of these amazing films. This is what we're discussing in this episode, so sit back and either reminisce with us, or learn about the good old days, when we were happy for a 5th generation grainy print of Anthropophagus that had the infamous fetus scene! Films mentioned in this episode: Anthropophagus aka The Grim Reaper (1980), Army of Darkness (1992), Bad Taste (1987), The Beyond aka Seven Doors of DeathT (1981), Beyond the Darkness (1979), Blood from the Mummy's Tomb (1971), Braindead aka Dead Alive (1992), Cannibal Ferox aka Make Them Die Slowly (1981), Cannibal Holocaust (1980), City of the Living Dead aka Gates of Hell (1980), A Cold Night's Death (1973), Dawn of the Dead (1978), Dellamorte Dellamore (1994), Emanuelle and the Last Cannibal aka Trap Them and Kill Them (1977), Faces of Death (1978), Female Vampire (1973), Four Flies on Grey Velvet (1971), Friday the 13th (1980), Frankenstein and the Monster from Hell (1974), The Ghost Galleon (1974), Guinea Pig: Flower and Flesh and Blood (1985), Hardware (1990), The Haunting (1963), I Drink Your Blood (1971), Jungle Holocaust (1977), Lady Frankenstein (1971), Mad Love (1935), Man Made Monster (1941), Mary Shelley's Frankenstein (1994), Meet the Feebles (1989), Mondo Magic (1975), Nekromantik (1988), Nekromantik 2 (1991), Night of the Seagulls aka Night of the Death Cult (1975), Opera (1987), Return of the Living Dead (1985), The Third Eye (1966), Tombs of the Blind Dead (1972), Zombie (1979)

Django and Smut welcome Kitty back to the Cultpix Studio to look back (slapping alert) in 2022 and ahead to 2023. We start off with what we did over the holiday, mainly the Christmas and Swedish films that were posted, plus a shout out to our three last pod guests: Jimmy, Adrian and Lisa. We go around the proverbial table to pick out personal favourites from the past year, whether film, theme week, podcast guests, event or other. We do an In Memoria of some of the Cultpix greats that passed away in the past year, including funny/sexy Kitten Natividad, "Cannibal Holocaust" director Ruggero Deodato, Tim Lucas' wife, muse and partner Donna and even Olivia Newton John. There is self-congratulation galore as we note how Cultpix has grown over 150% in the past year, even as the like of N****ix lost 500,000 members in UK alone. We count down the top ten most watched film on Cultpix in 2022, all of them with a sexy theme, with a fierce battle for the top medal position between Danish erotica compilation and Swedish erotica compilation, but the winner is a film that 'gives porn a good name.'We look at the top films that people find on Cultpix from sites like Letterboxd, JustWatch and PlayPilot, including "Anita - Swedish Nymphet" (1972), Fleischer Studio's "Superman" serial (1941-1943), and Leni Riefenstahl's "Triumph of the Will" (1935). There is also a good story abput how that last one ended up published on DVD and on Cultpix. A special mention to our biggest fans and members on social media and IRL - would you believe we get letters sent to us? And you won't guess what's in them. A special mention of members Tightsbury, Lee Bailes, Karen R, Dr Retro, John Corbyn, Cousin H, Disapproving Swede and many more. Looking ahead to 2023 we already have lots of theme weeks and films lined up. We will have more theme weeks with Herschel Gordon Lewis and Doris Wishman.  Films from Japan's Daiei studio (NB: Scandinavia only), including Gamera - gigantic flying, fire-breathing turtle; Daimajin – a giant stone statue comes to life; and Zatoichi the blind masseur, gambler and sword fighter. There will be more films by the extremely productive Swedish director Arne Mattsson, who single-handedly started the myth of 'Swedish Sin' with his film "One Summer of Happiness" (1951). We will feature All Channel Films (NB: USA only): Theme week 1: 7 80's horror/slasher/gore films. Theme week 2: A mixed bag of cult movies from 1969-1991, including classics like I Drink Your Blood (1970) and three Vice Academy comedies – basically Police Academy ripoffs. We also have Czech classics (wonderful films from the 60's; vampires, sci-fi and fantasy) and more films from Hungary (Hungarian westerns!!!). That's just a little taster of things to come on Cultpix. It's going to be a fun 2023. Please be sure to get in touch with us, because unlike most DJs, we DO take requests.

I DRINK YOUR BLOOD is quintessential exploitation horror. It was made specifically to compete with the graphic violence on display in NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD, it was sold as a double feature with I EAT YOUR SKIN, a film made almost a decade earlier and never distributed, and writer/director David E. Durston went on from it to make hardcore gay pornography before leaving filmmaking for three decades. When a group of LSD-addled, devil-worshipping hippies terrorize the residents of a small town, a young boy exacts horrific revenge by feeding them meat pies injected with rabies. It isn't long before everyone goes mad and all manner of carnage ensues. The first film to get an X-rating by the MPAA for violence alone, and heavily censored upon release, I DRINK YOUR BLOOD is 1970s exploitation horror at its best.

(THSP Classic Episode!) Season 3 Episode 22 Recorded Tuesday February 14th, 2017 and originally released on February 17, 2017 Hey there, horror fans! That Horror Show Podcast is back to bring you another new episode. And, boy oh boy, this one is a doozy, folks! For this episode, we decided to hop in our time machine, venture back in time to 1970s New York City and find two horror movies playing in one of the 42nd Street grindhouses. So join hosts Timothy Kazda and Chris Koenig as they walk down the grimy streets of The Deuce and catch a zonked-out double-feature of “The Headless Eyes” (1971) and “I Drink Your Blood” (1971). Do these two demented gory shockers make a good pairing for the hosts? Well, fans, you gotta' l listen to find out! But, wait: there's more! This episode marks the return of the ever-so-in-demand ‘What Have We Watched' segment! Sorry for the long wait, but we told you it was coming back. Listen in as Chris Koenig keeps his sleazy side in-check with his take on oh-so wrong “Love Camp 7” (1969), while Timothy Kazda expresses his displeasure with “How to Be Single” (2016). Plus the debut of THSP Spotlight, with special guest Tori Danielle! and the return of the mailroom. #42ndstreetgrindhouse #grindhouse #1971 #idrinkyourblood #theheadlesseyes #horror #1971horror #WiHM8 #horrorgeeklife #pophorror.com  #thsp

And, oh boy…extreme is definitely the word. This relentlessly gory bloodfest is as grizzly and stressful as it is beautiful and thoughtful, and comes highly recommended from both of your hosts. Though, be warned - we feel this is seasoned horror fan only territory, so watch at your own risk. A lot happened on this episode including a converstion about Sideshow Mike and Mel's origins, Chuck trying way too hard to sound like he knows what he's talking about, and the power goes out! It's a good one, so go get it ya Freaks!!! ——— Also discussed: “I Drink Your Blood” 1970 “Black Friday” 2021 “Dexter: New Blood” Currently on Showtime “Great White” 2021 “Death Screams” 1982 ——— If you dig the show, PLEASE! The 16th Annual A-Z of Horror Festival continues. We reveal festival entries I-M, in this episode, Part 2. I must have been really hungry when preparing this portion of the festival. We start things off with a group of would-be Satanists, consuming a particularly unhealthy portion of rabies-laced meat pies. Teenage boys find themselves being devoured by, arguably, the hottest girl in school. Environmentalists, on a crusade to thwart toxic waste from being dumped into a faraway tropical river, get gobbled up by the mutated wildlife. A holiday in the English countryside becomes a gut-munching nightmare, because of government experiments and a irrationally suspicious, judgmental police inspector. And then from there, a best-selling author crashes his car while driving in a blizzard and is NOT eaten. He is actually rescued. Kind of.

Before Boyle cleared out London, before Snyder tacked a mediocre remake onto a strong opening sequence, before Cronenberg went beyond the green door to ask for Marilyn Chamber's phone number, David Durston was there, making zombies who ran hella fast. Raconteur, TV writer, actor and possible gigantic liar (seriously, some of his life stories are wild), Durston was a cuddly madman who saw news footage of caged children foaming at the mouth and thought "that'd make for a fun movie, if only you could squeeze Charles Manson in there".   So it is on this episode of Tracks of the Damned, the horror film commentary track podcast, that we look at one of the gnarliest and most fun horror trash epics of the 1970's, I Drink Your Blood. But why is it that a movie about Satanist Murder Cult Real-Live-Chicken-Sacrificing Hippies Who Eat Tampered Meat Pies And Decapitate A Small Town's Worth of Upstate New York Bumpkins so much fun to us? Is it because we're sick weirdos or is it because seeing the lines of good taste crossed satisfies a primal urge to violate societal taboos in the safety of our own theater seats? It's probably the first one, but just in case Gabe Powers of Genre Grinder joins Patrick for a post-commentary discussion about transgressive movies, offensive content, and how genre fans navigate the line between watching Cannibal Holocaust and being a good person. Summer has arrived at last Under the Stairs which means our 4th annual Top 10 series of shows has come to take you through those uncomfortably humid days with a heart does of horror!! I am not one to be accused of short changing listeners or setting easy goals either which makes this years Top 10 series very special indeed!! Over the next 11 episodes in the series we will count down each year in the decade known as the 70's with the mission statement of creating the definitive Top 10 list of movies in the decade, but with a little TPUTS twist if you will.  Noah's Ark rules will mean that each year will be represented in the creation of the list and will force myself and my guest to short list each year in the decade from 10 movies to 2!! That's right...only 2 movies from each year can go through which means that this list can/might & will be unlike any Top 10 list of 70's horror movies created on a podcast!! On this show my guest Ricky Morgan and myself will look at 10 movies from 1970 with mini reviews of Hatchet for the Honeymoon, 5 Dolls for an August Moon, The Ancines Woods, The Bird with the Crystal Plumage, Blind Woman's Curse, I Drink Your Blood, Scream and Scream Again, Count Yorga: Vampire, Mark of the Devil & Taste the Blood of Dracula. After a particular brutal encounter, the youngest of them, Pete, decides to get revenge by feeding the trippy hippies with some rabies infested food. Kat and Samm are back for the eighth episode of Daughters of Darkness, which is the first of a two-part series inspired by Stephen Thrower’s Nightmare USA. This 500+ plus masterpiece is an in-depth examination of low budget American horror from the ‘70s and ‘80s, the type overlooked or even unheard of compared to mainstream fare like The Exorcist and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. In the words of publisher FAB Press: “Nightmare USA explores the development of America’s subterranean horror film industry, spotlighting some of the wildest films imaginable from an era unchecked by censorship or ‘good taste.’ Ranging from cult favourites like I Drink Your Blood to stylish mind-benders like Messiah of Evil and ultra-violent shockers like Don’t Go in the House, Nightmare USA goes where no other in-depth study has gone before, revealing the fascinating true stories behind classics and obscurities alike.” Kat and Samm discuss some of their favorite films from Thrower’s book, beginning with the exceptional Let’s Scare Jessica to Death (1971), an eerie reimagining of both the vampire myth and gas lighting plot, which explores a woman’s descent into madness in an old house in the New England countryside. Next up is Grave of the Vampire (1972), starring Michael Fucking Pataki, which is probably the only film in history to begin with a vampire serial rapist defiling a woman whose boyfriend just proposed to her by an open coffin. The still terrifying and strangely ageless Messiah of Evil (1973) reworks the Lovecraftian mythos while also following a young woman’s lonely search for her artist father in a small town by the seaside. For a complete change of pace, Godmonster of Indian Flats (1973) is the world’s most insane monster movie that’s not really a monster movie at all, about a mutant sheep and corruption in desert town. Kat and Samm close out the episode with a look at the rapturous The Centrefold Girls (1974), a proto-slasher about a moralist murdering the models of a nude magazine.

Welcome the newest episode of Dark Discussions, your place for the discussion of horror film, fiction, and all that’s fantastic. B-movies have been around for years, from the Universal horror films to the 1950's science fiction thrillers. In the 1960's the grindhouse and exploitation flicks continued the trend but with more graphic content including blood and nudity. Films like Blood Feast, Night of the Living Dead, The Defilers, Faster Pussycat! Kill! Kill!, among others gained cult status. Then the 1970's drive-in flicks carried the torch. Films like I Drink Your Blood, Foxy Brown, and The Big Bird Cage were a handful, and some even became more than cult films ... they became classics. One such film was the 1974 movie, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre. With its shocking title, its promised exploitation, and its "based on a true story" claim, the film immediately gained notoriety. Yet the tight and unsettling story by co-writers Kim Henkel and Tobe Hooper, the brilliant directing by Hooper, and the top notch acting by (at the time) unknowns, let the film catch on and today it is considered not just a drive-in horror film but an all time classic, no matter the genre. With the passing of star Gunnar Hansen, in tribute, Dark Discussions has decided to do an episode on this groundbreaking film that brought the grindhouse through the "front door" and eventually into the mainstream. Last year the lead actress, Marilyn Burns, also passed away. The film happens to be 41 years old now, and your co-hosts reflect on its legacy, what it meant to horror (and exploitation) cinema, and their personal feelings on what some say may be the greatest horror film ever made. As always we welcome your comments: darkdiscussions@aol.com (written email or attached mp3 files) WWW.DARKDISCUSSIONS.COM

In this episode, Wayne has a chat with Lynn Lowry, a veteran actor who has performed on stage and screen. She's best known int he horror community for movies like The Crazies, Cat People, and They Came From Within. Listen to her stories about her time on screen and stage.  From her IMDB: Lynn Lowry was born in 1947 in Illinois, but raised in Atlanta, Georgia. She began acting professionally at age 17 in a theater called Shawnee Summer Stock Theater. She relocated to New York City in the late 1960s to pursue other acting jobs to support her young son. Her first movie role was a small part in The Battle of Love's Return (1971) which starred and was directed by Lloyd Kaufman, who later founded the "Troma" independent film company. Her next role was another small, uncredited part in I Drink Your Blood (1970). Her next movie, playing a dual role in Sugar Cookies (1973), which required her to act in the nude for the first time, got her sex appeal. Score (1974) came next which was a X-rated, soft-core, semi-documentary flick which brought on more sex appeal for Lowry's character. Her next role was one of her best in playing "Kathy", a neurotic character in George A. Romero's The Crazies (1973), an action-horror flick filmed in rural Pennsylvania near Pittsburgh. She then was cast for a recurring part in the TV series "How to Survive a Marriage" (1974). She was also cast for a part in David Cronenberg's horror flick They Came from Within (1975). After another minor part in Fighting Mad (1976) and a few other movies, Lowry moved to Los Angeles in the early 1980s where, after a slow start, she began acting in the local theater, and occasional movie roles. Most recently, she has been performing on stage as a singer in singing old folk songs and show tunes with her own band.
