This episode is an important one. André is an actor, writer and menswear-head who’s known for his louche, creative personal style. This week, he makes the case for slouchy style and waxes lyrical on jazz and hip-hop. He and Aleks also discuss the industry’s unfortunate lack of diversity, and André’s combined passion and honesty makes for powerful listening.Let us know what you think of the episode on Instagram by messaging @handcutradio, and if you enjoy listening please do leave us a review on Apple Podcasts.---André Larnyoh — Instagram[07:21] Die, Workwear![07:27] The Studio Artist Look, article[12:28] Bitches Brew, Miles Davis[14:50] Ethan Newton, HCR S03 E01[16:18] Bullitt, 1968[16:19] The Thomas Crown Affair, 1968[16:26] Doug Hayward[17:07] The Italian Job, 1969[17:08] Get Carter, 1971[18:45] Jean-Michel Basquiat[22:41] A Tribe Called Quest, Jazz (We've Got) Buggin' Out[23:37] So What (1959), Miles Davis[28:29] Art Comes First[28:30] Casely-Hayford[31:11] Jason Jules[31:20] Adam Rogers[31:33] Norwegian Rain[31:37] Ikiré Jones[31:38] Post–Imperial[38:07] No Man Walks Alone[38:08] Greg Lellouche, HCR S02 E09---HandCut Radio is produced by Birch, a London based creative agency. For the next two weeks, this show will be in Philadelphia, to give a taste of this fine American city. Over the past few decades, Philadelphia has had real problems, but also a lot of image problems: a local police detective decided to label a whole part of the city’s north as the Philadelphia Badlands and just last week someone noticed that Google Maps was still actually labeling it that. Which is bullshit. Back when I was a reporter covering the northeast U.S., I dipped into Philly quite a bit, from the upscale Gayborhood in Center City to, yes, that 25th police district in North Philly, and it’s a hard town not to like, from grit to Gritty. The place I got to know back then is well represented by this week’s guest, fashion designer Walé Oyéjidé, a Nigerian-American designer, writer, musician and lawyer whose designs, under clothing label Ikiré Jones, have appeared in Black Panther and elsewhere. The man is good with a strong drink in the morning (The Trip editor Tafi Mukunyadzi fixed us up with some caipirinhas), he’s got strong ideas about how fashion can engage with the global south, and he was a pleasure to talk to.

« Être Africain, c'est être inspiré par une culture, tout en étant également plein d'un espoir indéfectible dans l'avenir, » nous dit le styliste et Ted Fellow Walé Oyéjidé. À travers son label Ikiré Jones – on peut voir leur travail dans le film « Black Panther » de Marvel, il a recours à des motifs traditionnels pour mettre en évidence l'élégance et la grâce de groupes souvent laissés pour compte, avec des vêtements très bien coupés qui racontent une histoire.
