A difficult chapter is unfolding for Osage language preservation in Oklahoma. The Osage language immersion school in Pawhuska, a program created to help a new generation learn and carry forward the language of the Osage people, is closing its doors. The decision has sparked questions about the future of language revitalization and the challenges of sustaining Indigenous education programs. Here's FBO's Roma Carter with the part one of her story.Oklahoma is one of a small number of states that requires voters who return absentee ballots by mail to have their signatures notarized, or to follow other specific procedures depending on the type of absentee ballot. Sie sind die größten Tiere unseres Planeten – die Wale. Fast hätten wir Menschen sie durch die Jagd ganz ausgerottet. Einige Arten hatten 99% ihres Bestandes verloren. Inzwischen gut geschützt, erholen sich Wale zum Glück wieder. Eine der weltweit renommiertesten Forscherinnen auf ihrem Gebiet lehrt und arbeitet an unserer Hamburger Uni. Helena Herr ist den Walen auf der Spur und weiß, wie es ihnen geht. Wie viele es wieder gibt und welche Gefahren immer noch auf sie lauern -all das hört ihr im ersten Teil unserer Themenwoche über die Walforschung.
Obwohl ich kinder- und fahrzeuglos schuldfrei alle zwei Jahre zur Biennale nach Venedig fliegen könnte (und rein ökobilanziert locker mit dem Helikopter vom Arsenale zum Giardini dazu), hat sich als das perfekte Transportmittel in den letzten Jahren der Zug über die Alpen erwiesen. Man kommt entschleunigt, den Bauch voll gutem Espresso, direkt am Canale Grande an und auf dem Weg zurück kann man kiloweise Käse und Wurst mitnehmen. La dolce vita! Auf dem Weg zum Apartment, jedes Jahr ein Augenblick der Spannung, was Dir der gezahlte obszöne Preis diesmal an bescheidener Bettstatt beschert, spaziert man schon an vielen der Ausstellungsräume der Zwischenmächte vorbei, an den kleinen Galerien oder größeren Hallen der Länder, die vor hundert Jahren, als die Pavillons des Giardini gebaut wurden, noch nicht existierten, aber entweder genug Geld oder einen Fürsprecher haben, so dass sie nicht ins Ghetto des Arsenale müssen.Das ermöglicht, nach Gepäckabwurf, zum Beispiel einen Besuch der “Räume” von Äthiopien und Simbabwe, der uns Sterblichen einen Blick in das Leben in Venedig in den Jahrhunderten (oder das der Reichen und Schönen right now) ermöglicht, denn beide Staaten haben sich mal fix einen kompletten Palazzo gemietet, was man sich mit Diktatorenblutmoney halt so leistet. Beide Palazzi wurden komplett leergeräumt und mit korrekter Kunst gefüllt, zu 80% unpolitisch, so dass die immer noch korrupten Herrscher der Länder sich nicht despektiert fühlen und gleichzeitig auf ein bisschen Kunstfreiheit verweisen können.Weltpolitisch mit Augenmerk versehene Gewissensprojekte wie der Klimawandel im untergehenden Nauru im Pazifik oder das sich erstaunlicherweise seit Jahrzehnten mit dem Kinn gerade noch so über der Wasserkante haltende Cuba sind hingegen auf Gönner angewiesen und haben meist eines der vielen Ladengeschäfte der Lagunenstadt gemietet bekommen oder, wie im Fall der Karibik-”Kommunisten” Unterschlupf in einer Kirche gefunden. Nauru öffnete seine Location milde interessanten Gastinstallationen mit dem Thema “Verschwinden”, gestaltet von Künstlern aus aller Welt. Der kleine Inselstaat hat dabei in der Kuration nicht zu 100% aufgepasst und einen kleinen Film im Programm, der die Zeiten der Kolonialisierung von Nauru thematisiert und diesen herrlichen Kommentar im Feedbackbereich der Ausstellung produzierte: “AI Video at the Nauru Pavilion? Brother, you are sinking!” - denn tatsächlich war das schwarz-weiße im Zelluloid-Stil produzierte Stummfilmwerk der pure AI-Slop. Ich hab gelacht. Cuba kam wiederum bei der katholischen Kirche unter, was irgendwie passt. Ausgestellt waren recht eintönige Skulpturen ohne große Aussage in Räumen mit Türen voller mehrsprachiger Jesus-Sprüche, die sich brav alle Besucher durchlasen, um darunter einen kleinen angeklebten Zettel zu finden, der informiert, dass diese Texte kein Teil der Ausstellung seien (gehörten sie doch einfach nur zum Kircheninterieur). Auch wirklich funny.Beim Thema bleibend hatte ein paar Türen weiter der Heilige Stuhl, aka Vatikanstadt, eine gerade in Restauration befindliche Kirche als Ausstellungsraum okkupiert und überraschte mich enorm mit einer Performance ganz nach meinem Geschmack: Einer, nun leider retrospektiven, Alexander-Kluge-”Installation”. Diese war lange vor dem Tod von Kluge im März 2026 geplant und posthum von seinen Erben vollendet worden, was, wer das Œuvre des wilden Philosophen kennt, erwartbar zu einem himmlischen Chaos führte, no pun intended. Die Kluge-Familie durchforstete nach des Patriarchen Tod die Word-Dokumente des Genies und produzierten in fünf, sechs Räumen fragmentarische DCTP-artige Features aus Videos, Dokumenten, Fotos, Klängen, die fließend ineinander übergingen und zu einer audiovisuellen Hildegard-von-Bingen-Vatikan-Otto-Trojanische-Pferde-gleich-dreimal-Weltenseelen-alles-hängt-zusammen-Kakophonie führte, eine Orgie für Fans des heiligen Kluge-Sonntagabends-nach-Spiegel-TV in den Neunzigern oder kurz: der Papst outet sich als Alexander-Kluge-Gooner, what is not to like?Die alteingesessenen Nationen mit ihren fancy Pavillons im Giardini wiederum haben ein Problem: Es muss gespart werden. Für AI und so. Nun muss Kunst kein Geld kosten, Pinsel-Leim-Papier und fertig ist das Mondgesicht, aber wenn man alle zwei Jahre für sechs Monate die Nation präsentiert, war es eigentlich üblich, dass man etablierten Künstlern ein bisschen Raum samt Geld zur Entfaltung bietet und dem Besucher was für alle Sinne. So war vor zwei Jahren der britische Pavillon mit der besten Videoinstallation ever versehen worden, sicher ein Millionenprojekt und jeden Penny wert, um dieses Jahr ein paar großformatige Bilder aufzuhängen, sicher wertvoll, Kolonialbezug eingepreist, aber eben auch ein bisschen dünn. Frankreichs Pavillon, letztes Mal noch mit einer fünf Jahre hinter der Zeit hinkenden raumfüllenden quietschbunten Animation, dazu Franzosentechno, gefüllt, präsentierte sich mit unzusammenhängenden Objekten auf Drittsemesterniveau, regionale Schule der bildenden Künste. Peinlo. Deutschland hatte vor zwei Jahren noch Geld für wirklich nice Raumschiffästhetik und eine eindrucksvolle Installation zum Thema Gastarbeiter und erinnerte sich in diesem nach fünfunddreißig solchen daran, dass es auch Zonis mit Geschmack gibt. Und da diese schon immer aus nichts etwas machen konnten, gab es eine gelungene, preiswerte Installation ohne jede Multimediatechnik der leider vor der Eröffnung viel zu früh verstorbenen Henrike Naumann, geboren in Zwickau und in den Nebenflügeln dreierlei solche von Sung Tieu aus Freital, die frugal zu nennen, der Sache nicht gerecht wird. Materialaufwand Baumarktpreis 1000 EUR. Da freut sich der Finanzminister.So ging das weiter in allen Pavillons der alten Welt und obwohl das Motto der Biennale “In Moll” oder auf Englisch “In minor keys” war, einigten sich die Sparfüchse irgendwie darauf, in jedem Einführungstext von “Silence” zu reden, als ob das dasselbe wäre, und schon wieder hat man ein paar Tausender gespart für das Soundsystem.Inhaltlich fehlte diesmal der grobe Faden, wofür ich eher dankbar bin. Kunst kann auch mal ohne Aussage und speziell die nicht so schnurgeraden Demokratien, die die letzten Jahre unter Commitmentdruck standen, irgendwas zu Flucht, Vertreibung oder Klimawandel zu bringen, atmeten sichtbar erleichtert auf und gaben uns im Fall von Ägypten zum Beispiel, leicht kinetische Objekte in schwarzen Räumen mit Instruktionen, diese anzufassen, aber aufzupassen, sich nicht die Finger einzuklemmen. Ungarn war ob der Vorlaufzeit auch noch dankbar unpolitisch und ließ einen Künstler über die ideellen Überbleibsel eines abgerissenen Forschungsinstituts philosophieren, mit einer finalen und, wie sich herausstellen sollte, vorausschauenden Installation, in der er den tiefsten Seufzer ever versucht in ein Glas einzusperren - es war offenbar einer der Erleichterung.In all dem Sammelsurium aus dem McKunst stach einzig eine Installation aus unserem östlichen Nachbarland hervor. Polens Pavillon bestand aus zwei gigantischen Videoprojektionen, die miteinander kommunizierten und es war auf den ersten Blick klar, dass hier jemand eine brillante Idee hatte: Wir befinden uns in einer Point of View-Sicht im Schwimmbad, unter Wasser und sehen zwanzig Menschen bis zum Hals, der Kopf unsichtbar über dem Wasser, wie sie singen oder einfach nur chorhaft Geräusche von sich geben, das Ganze untertitelt mit nicht ganz sinnklarem Text. Gekleidet sind alle in scharlachroten Kleidern, think Handmaid's Tale, die Arme bewegend, aber weit weg von Unterwasserballett. Das ist ästhetisch schon mal hervorragend und geht eine ganze Weile so und, wenn man dann den Begleittext liest, eröffnet sich ausnahmsweise tatsächlich eine weitere Dimension: die Sängerinnen, so lesen wir, bestehen aus zwei Gruppen, Gehörlosen und Hörenden, und was wir an Bewegung unter Wasser sehen sind die gebärdensprachlichen Entsprechungen der Töne, die wir vernehmen! Der Clou und natürlich, Hand auf Stirnklatsch, unter Wasser können sich die der Gebärdesprache mächtigen unterhalten, wir anderen nicht. Ha! Und der Clou: Wer kann sich noch ganz wunderbar unter Wasser unterhalten? Wale!! Denn was wir an Chorgesang hören, ein seltsamer Mix aus Tönen und Sprache, sind die von Roger Payne im Jahr 1969 “entschlüsselten” Walgesänge, eine Entdeckung, die damals und bis heute dazu führt, dass Wale als intelligente Wesen wahrgenommen und naturgeschützt werden (außer in Japan und Norwegen, klar). Das alles ergibt einen wunderbaren Kreis an intellektuellem Augenmerk auf die vielen Dinge um uns herum, die wir erst im zweiten Anlauf als solche wahrnehmen und dann plötzlich auch ästhetisch grandios finden. 100 Punkte nach Warschau.Das eventuell zweite und letzte Highlight in den Pavillons kam aus Österreich. Der Pavillon, der in den letzten Jahren immer wieder zu gefallen wusste mit thematischen und dennoch nicht drögen Installationen (Einwanderung, Feminismus), war leider nicht besuchbar, weil sich eine Besucherwarteschlange von ein paar hundert Menschen durch den Giardino wand, die sich nur minimal bewegte. Ein solcher kuratorischer Autismus zur größten nationalen Präsentationsshow des Jahres ringt Respekt ab und ich unterstütze das Nachbarland, indem ich nicht google, was ich verpasst habe, am Ende war das österreichische Haus leer?! Davor gab es jedenfalls jeden Tag Punkt 12 eine Performance, bei der eine fitte Künstlerin an einem Seil in eine an einem Kran angebrachte Bronzeglocke klettert, sich mit dem Kopf nach unten, (OKF, obviously, Kunst!) aus dieser heraushängte und mit dem Körper die Glocke schlug, und zwar im Dialog mit den Kirchen der Stadt. Irre - aber eben auch ein bisschen Cirque du Soleil. Die Warteschlange war begeistert ob der kurzen Ablenkung und konzentrierte sich sofort wieder aufs Warten auf.. was wohl? Wir werden es nie erfahren.Aber wo waren die ganzen Beamer abgeblieben, die uns vor zwei Jahren noch so schön die Augen blitzten? Im Arsenale natürlich. Dieser zweite Ausstellungskomplex der Biennale besteht aus den alten Schiffswerften der Stadt (“alt” meint hier 14. Jahrhundert) und die Eingangshalle ist traditionell den von der Biennale-Kommission kuratierten länderunabhängigen Künstlern vorbehalten. Diese mussten dieses Jahr alle einen Beamer mehr nehmen, und wo zum letzten Event noch Hütten aus Ölfässern und Bäume aus Bambus standen, tanzt jetzt viel zu großflächig abstraktes oder konkretes vor unseren Augen und erzeugt ein leichtes Vertigo. Selten wird das Übermaß an Elektrizität sinnvoll eingesetzt; so wie sich AI in jede Dönerspeisekarte schleicht, ist es halt einfacher einen Film zu projizieren als eine Skulptur zu errichten. Es ist alles ein bisschen traurig.Eindrucksvoll, wenn auch nicht superkünstlerisch, wurden zwei der Lichtwurfgeräte in einer Installation eingesetzt, in der Aufnahmen von Telefonbüchern aus der Levante in 1938 in der Sichtlinie eines simplen Screencasts aus dem Jahr 2023 stehen, in dem die Yellow Pages für Gaza gescrollt und geklickt werden. Chirurgen, Optiker, Gärtner, Hotels, alle werden, ordentlich mit Bewertungssternen (meist 0) gescrollt gegen Seiten mit den Adressen von Chirurgen, Optikern, Gärtnern, Hotels aus Beirut, Tel Aviv etc. vor knapp hundert Jahren und die Aussage ist klar: Hier lebten Menschen wie Du und ich und jetzt halt nicht mehr. Der Titel “Between a River and a Sea” triggert alle Beteiligten ordentlich, so wie jeder andere Titel hier alle Beteiligten ebenso getriggert hätte, da kann man auch gleich sagen, worum es geht. Große Kunst ist es nicht, aber es steht für eine kräftige, unkuratierte Unterströmung unter all der schönen Kunst in Moll auf der diesjährigen Biennale: Das Thema Gaza war allgegenwärtig. Aber so ist es halt, wenn man, wie es den Kuratorinnen seit Jahren wichtig ist, den ehemals unterdrückt-kolonialisierten Stimmen Platz einräumt, kommen diese Dir jetzt nicht jedes Jahr mit Dankbarkeitshymnen, sondern sagen Dir, was schief läuft.Die anderen Hallen im Arsenale teilt sich der Rest der weltpolitisch zu spät gekommenen Länder und es setzte sich der Trend aus dem Giardini fort: Austerität wohin man nur schaut. Das ist natürlich mehrfach dumm, ist doch die Biennale in ihrem Ursprung eine Werbefläche für die Nationen der Welt und, da erfunden zur 20. Jahrhundertwende, ursprünglich die der westlichen Nationen. Diese haben nach einer kurzen Renaissance zur Mitte des letzten Jahrhunderts nicht mehr so viel positive Außenwirkung, wirtschaftlich, humanitär, und nun bekommt man nicht mal mehr die Energie auf, kulturell ein bisschen zu pransen. Es ist idiotisch.Ins Vakuum springt, na wer wohl: China, das kulturhistorisch dem Westen nicht besonders verständig gegenübersteht, wenn auch nicht wirklich feindlich, man gibt eher keinen S**t, und während man das in den letzten Jahren noch ein bisschen verborgen hat und das Spiel des “Wir haben den Größten” mit uns “jungen Nationen” (aus sineohistorischer Sicht) brav mitspielte, zeigen sie dieses Jahr, was sie von der ganzen Sache wirklich halten: Am Eingang der Halle steht ein zwanzig Meter breiter Videoscreen, auf dem der aktuelle chinesische Computergamehit “Black Myth: Wukong” läuft, davor ein Controller, wo man das Ding daddeln kann, no s**t. In der Halle ein bisschen Diorama, das aussieht wie die Konzeptkunst zum Game und am Ende der Halle, wirklich, I s**t you not, ein f*****g Roboter, der Dir auf weißem Karton eine Kalligrafie pinselt. Nein, nicht deinen Namen oder einen Slogan Deiner Wahl, nein, das könnte ja schief gehen, nein, jeder bekommt das Gleiche gemalt und natürlich stellen sich die Leute an. Leider erreicht mindestens zwei Jahrzehnte Austerität nun endgültig auch den im Verhältnis doch mikroskopisch kleinen Kulturhaushalt der Ausstellungsländer, das Geld wird schließlich gebraucht für Drohnenabwehr, damit die Rechenzentren geschützt werden, die uns die Memes erzeugen, die uns die Kunst ersetzen.Aber der Kunstbetrieb neigt zur Überraschung, vielleicht erleben wir in zwei Jahren eine Reaktion auf all diesen deprimierenden Quatsch, den wir uns aktuell so antun. Give God One Night a Week—and Watch What Happens What if the biggest thing keeping you from making a difference for God isn't a lack of talent, knowledge, or spirituality? What if you're simply too busy? In this episode of the Rob Skinner Podcast, Rob offers one simple challenge: Leave one night open. Choose one night every week and dedicate it to investing spiritually in another person. Study the Bible with someone searching for God. Mentor a younger Christian. Encourage someone who is struggling. Follow up with a new Christian. Train a future leader. It doesn't sound dramatic—but Rob has seen what happens when this simple decision is repeated week after week. After moving to Boston, Rob began studying the Bible with a young man named Wale. Wale became a Christian, but their time together didn't stop after his baptism. They kept Tuesday nights open, sharing dinner, studying the Bible, talking about life, character, relationships, leadership, and his walk with God. Today, Wale is leading his own small group. Rob shares another example from years earlier. Every Tuesday night for approximately three years, Chris Schwarzenberger spent time with Rob and his family. Chris would later become an evangelist and continues serving in ministry today. Neither story started with a massive program. Tuesday night was simply available. Rob also looks at Jesus' example in John 1. When two seekers wanted to know more about him, Jesus didn't squeeze them into a 15-minute appointment. He invited them to come with him and gave them his time. Because relationships take time. Bible studies take time. Mentoring takes time. Leadership development takes time. You can't microwave discipleship. Drawing from Mark 4, Rob also warns about the danger of allowing perfectly good things—work, family responsibilities, entertainment, travel, projects, and commitments—to fill our lives until there is no room left for the things that matter most. For leaders, Rob offers an especially practical challenge. Instead of simply asking people to "be more committed," ask them: "What night is your kingdom night?" Imagine the compounding impact if an entire church made one evening each week available for helping someone else spiritually. One night becomes a changed life. A changed life becomes a leader. A leader begins investing in others. And eventually, one night can become a movement. Pull out your calendar. Choose your night. Protect it. Then pray one simple prayer: "God, give me somebody to invest in." Your greatest contribution may not ultimately be your career, house, accomplishments, or bank account. It may be the people you loved, strengthened, encouraged, and helped find God.

Und er hört morgens eine junge Band durch die Fußgängerzone singen und spürt, wie sich ein warmer Schleier über die ganze Stadt legt.Rundherum ist die Natur sofort da. Die Leuchtenburg mit ihrem Steg der Wünsche hoch über dem Tal. Und in Bad Sulza ein Thermalbad, in dem du unter Wasser Musik hörst, erdacht nach dem Gesang von Walen in Kanada.Kommt mit nach Jena. Aujourd'hui sur Demain N'attend Pas, j'ai la joie de recevoir Wale Gbadamosi-Oyekanmi, un entrepreneur franco nigérian extraordinaire, décidé à bouger les lignes sur les grands problèmes de notre époque. Fondateur de Dare Win, une agence qui a marqué la pub digitale en France, et élu publicitaire de l'année en 2022, Wale est habitué à mettre sa créativité au service des plus grandes marques du luxe et du digital et à gérer de l'hyper-croissance. Tout bascule avec le Covid, la mort de George Floyd et le mouvement Black Life Matter.Wale décide alors de tourner la page. Il cède son entreprise et met ses compétences, son argent et son réseau au service des enjeux qui lui tiennent à coeur.Et depuis, il est inarrêtable !Quand la dissolution nous prend tous de cours, il comprend que les résultats des prochaines élections se joueront sur le niveau d'abstention. Et que les jeunes forment le gros des troupes abstentionnistes. En à peine deux semaines, avec une dizaine d'irréductibles, il lance le collectif « Mouiller le Maillot ». Il sollicite son réseau de footballeurs, les stars comme les équipes de quartier. Ils enfillent tous un maillot floqué « Je vote ». Une mobilisation éclair entre les deux tours, qui devient vite virale. Cette fois-ci, l'abstention reste faible et le danger est repoussé… jusqu'à la prochaine fois. On ne saura jamais la part jouée par la campagne animée par Wale… mais une chose est sûre, son attitude nous rappelle que nous pouvons tous prendre des initiatives et faire mentir le fatalisme.Wale a poursuivi ses engagements pour la jeunesse, toujours en se reposant sur les stars du sport et de la musique pour créer de la viralité. Il utilise notamment ce mécanisme pour produire Têtes Plongeantes, un documentaire choc sur la santé mentale des jeunes où les Champions du monde 2018 se confient sur leurs troubles de santé mentale en dialogue avec des jeunes concernés. Un docu vu plus de 2 millions de fois en quelques mois...Aujourd'hui, Wale a posé pour un temps ses valises au Nigéria, pays d'où est originaire sa famille, et se mobilise auprès de l'industrie créative du pays. Cet épisode est un véritable anti-dépresseur, une invitation à ne jamais nous résigner et à oser agir sur les sujets qui nous tiennent à coeur. Wale. nous rappelle que :- Chacun de nous peut agir et ne pas rester spectateur - La culture, le sport, la créativité sont de puissants outils pour sortir du repli et remettre du commun dans le débat public.Merci à celles et ceux qui mouillent le maillot pour construire du collectif. Toujours en utilisant l'influence et les médias au service d'une cause. Dans cet extrait, Wale nous raconte comment il a été amené à créer le collectif citoyen “Mouiller le maillot”, avec une poignée de créatifs engagés.Leur idée ? Lutter contre l'abstention des jeunes en reprenant les codes du sport et en utilisant la force du maillot comme symbole, pour rappeler aux jeunes qu'ils peuvent peser sur le jeu.Résultat : en deux semaines, une campagne virale relayée par les influenceurs, les stars du foot et les acteurs de terrain, qui a contribué à faire remonter la participation des jeunes.Ce qui m'a frappée dans l'échange avec Wale, c'est sa façon très directe de refuser la résignation, d'utiliser sa réussite pour bouger les lignes sur des causes importantes et d'embarquer tout un collectif derrière lui avec une incroyable énergie.Dès demain, retrouvez l'épisode entier.
