After Katie tells Jesse about a very disturbing dream she had about him, the hosts perform some valuable service journalism by explaining to listeners the nature of stonks and bons and hedge funs. Then they turn their attention to the story of Lauren Wolfe, a New York Times gig-editor who was fired after tweeting that watching Joe Biden's plane land gave her the 'chills.' Fair? Unfair? Inconsistently applied standards? Lot to unpack. Dan Savage, Rich Smith, and Eli Sanders talk about the bombshell New York Times story that proves Donald Trump lied about being a self-made billionaire. (Spoiler: Trump's daddy gave him a whole lot more cash than Trump has ever acknowledged.) Will this shredding of a core Trump myth change anything at all? Then, Katie Herzog talks about the case of Jack Smith IV, the “woke” journalist who was fired from Mic amid allegations of sexual misconduct. Was this the right response to these particular allegations? Finally, Rich and Eli talk with Dan about that new movie Dan made them watch: Active Measures. It’s impressive. It’s also a lot. Plus, as always, the music of Ahamefule J. Oluo.
The regressive left is a world where you are guilty until presumed innocent. This means that their easiest target are the male feminist allies who agree with this worldview. When they make an accusation against one of their own there is no defense, there is no way to come back. The accusations are evidence and there is nothing you can do to prove your innocence. Jack Smith IV is the latest in a long line of male feminists who have had their careers destroyed or hindered by accusations from "social justice warriors" and have been unable to mount a real defense. For those of us outside the regressive left, we believe in the presumption of innocence and that means even if we are accused of doing wrong we will survive.Support the show (http://timcast.com/donate)
Jack Smith IV, senior writer for Mic, on American nationalism and White Supremacy.
Jack Smith IV of Mic.com joins the show live from Georgia with a report on the neo-nazi rally held by the National Socialist Movement in the small town of Newnan. Jack and Matt Binder discuss the events that unfolded and how what went down is another nail in the coffin for the rise of the alt-right and the white supremacist movement post-Charlottesville, the hilarious downfall of the Traditionalist Worker’s Party, how antifa and antifascist action won…even Richard Spencer admits it, the next far right / identitarian threat: Jordan Peterson and “classic liberalism,” and much more!
In this episode, host Jared Holt explores a mysterious voicemail, the misogyny brewing online around the star of the latest "Tomb Raider" reboot, and Elon Musk's hire of The Onion staffers. Mic.com senior writer Jack Smith IV joins the show to talk about neo-Nazi's god awful week. We end the show with some musings about the rise and fall of "doggo" memes and what it says about the state of online culture.Show Jack Smith IV some love: https://twitter.com/JackSmithIVMic, too: mic.com Get on the email list at shtpost.substack.com

It's been a week, but we're gonna do it! We're tackling the rise and fall of Nazis in America. Is it funny? Parts are! First check out Alex's intro with guest co-host Danny Felts, ignore the reverb sound Danny left on the recording, and then enjoy the glorious 4th interview with Mic.com's Jack Smith IV. We're 4 for 4, baby. Check back soon to see if Raghav's recovered or will at least continue to host the podcast as a ghost!
The rest of the interview is available here for Patreon subscribers. https://www.patreon.com/posts/13834332 Mic reporter Jack Smith IV talks to me about the #AltRight rally in Charlottesville, VA, where he's been reporting from on the ground. He shares what he observed, his take on the police, which isn't what you'd expect, and why Neera Tanden is so wrong.
We have Jack Smith IV (mic.com) back on the program to discuss his recent trip to Boston to cover the weird 4chan people. Who are they? Why are they awful? We also go over the on-boarding process on the modern Left, coalition building with the Hillary cult, and Alex is a little drunk because this was recorded on memorial day. America.
That’s right Jack Smith 4 (@JackSmithIV, mic.com) is back along with shameless comedian Jeremy Hammond (@jeremythunder)to discuss fash bashing and the breakfast menu at McDonalds. Are the Spanish people spicy? Tune in to find out. This is Alex's big episode leading the discussion so there's a solid 45 minutes of thoughtful political discussion and then a good 15 of penis / anime talk. Sorry. Check out Jack's video of the black bloc protest here https://twitter.com/mic/status/822527070626578432
Well well well well well well. If it isn't an old fashioned bro-down, where some good ol' boys come together and mansplain saving the environment. Jack Smith IV (mic.com) and Brian Bahe (laughs.gov) join Alex and Anders in Punk Alley this week to discuss the Dakota Access Pipeline. We come up with a hot new tag-line for the show, and theorize disaster movies. Lines are drawn. Loves are lost. Bits are done.
