Anti-immigration rallies ignore Australia's economic dependence on migration

Australia in anti-immigration marches. At the heart of what organisers called the 'March for Australia' rallies was a call to end "mass migration", which protesters claimed is to blame for issues like the housing crisis and rise in cost of living. Experts say a paradox exists in the anti-immigration ideas put forward at these rallies: the very people protesters want fewer of are the ones propping up the nation's economy, workforce, and future.

Podcast 301 – Dunwoody Rallies for Play Your Heart Out at the JCC – Lauren Nelson and Jamie Steuer   Lauren and Jamie, two Dunwoody High School students, are volunteering with heart—literally. They're helping spread the word about “Play Your Heart Out,” a high-energy pickleball fundraiser hosted at the MJCCA to support Save a Child's Heart, an Israeli nonprofit that provides life-saving heart surgeries for children around the world. The event has grown from a small basketball tournament in 2017 into a beloved Dunwoody tradition that blends sport, service, and community.   Lauren's passion for the cause started after volunteering at the SACH Children's Center in Israel, where she connected with recovering kids from across the globe. Jamie was inspired by her family's long-time support of the organization and wanted to get more involved locally. Together, they're part of a bigger team of Dunwoody residents showing how even small efforts can lead to big impact.   Every dollar helps save lives—no paddle required. Lawyered” hosts Imani Gandy and Jess Pieklo IN DC and broke down SCOTUS' Medina v. Planned Parenthood South Atlantic arguments back in April. It went a little something like this… ATTENTION BUZZKILLAHSSSSS! WE DID A LIVE THING – in DC! Yep. Your “Feminist Buzzkills” joined forces with the “Boom! Lawyered” pod for an epic live show! After getting word that SCOTUS was hearing a case that could result in eliminating any healthcare provider from Medicaid payments if they provide abortion, we geared up for battle for one super-sized show with the amazing “Boom! Lawyered” hosts Imani Gandy (Rewire Editor-at-Large) and Jess Pieklo (Rewire Senior Vice President, Executive Editor.) We break down what this case means, and fill you in on all the outrageous tricks clown lawmakers across the country are playing trying to destroy access to reproductive care. It was a packed show full of rage and shenanigans and the DC crowd LOVED IT!  This episode unpacks the arguments in Medina v Planned Parenthood South Atlantic, a case that could upend Medicaid beneficiaries ability to enforce their rights under the public benefit program all because conservatives hate abortion. We get into the history of efforts to kick Planned Parenthood out of the Medicaid program, the bad faith arguments made by conservatives to the Court as they try to do so again, and how a bad decision in the case could impact way more than access to abortion. Recorded LIVE at the Black Cat in DC, we gotta give a huge shout out and special thanks to the Black Cat crew for making the space for our loud asses AND for everyone who showed up! Tune in for the legal brilliance, the laughs, the knowledge, and some actions you can take to be the change you wanna see in this world.  Times are heavy, but knowledge is power, y'all. We gotchu.  Scared? Got Questions about the continued assault on your reproductive rights? THE FBK LINES ARE OPEN! Just call or text (201) 574-7402, leave your questions or concerns, and Lizz and Moji will pick a few to address on the pod! OPERATION SAVE ABORTION: WE DID A THING EARLIER THIS MONTH! The Feminist Buzzkills took some big patriarchy-smashing heat to The Big Easy and recorded a live workshop that'll train you in coming for anti-abobo lawmakers, spotting and fighting against fake clinics, AND gears you up on how to support abortion patients and providers. Synopsis-  A Call to Action: Veterans, Citizens, and Leaders Unite: Hear from veterans like Terrance Deuel, Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, and UAW President Shawn Fain on why they're fighting for democracy and what you can do to get involved in your local community.Description: Can the Democratic party reinvent itself? In this exclusive one-on-one interview with Bernie Sanders, recorded during the Senator's “Fighting Oligarchy” tour, he sits down with Laura Flanders in Las Vegas to discuss what he hopes people will take away from his rallies, and how we can all push back against oligarchy. Sanders' message is especially resonating with Americans in this moment, as record-breaking crowds turn out for his tour — with many first-time activists in the audience. What is driving this phenomenon? Laura Flanders & Friends hit the road to find out, and traveled from Kenosha to Warren and Las Vegas. Along the tour, Flanders spoke with veterans, retirees and many concerned citizens. She also caught speeches from Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, United Auto Workers President Shawn Fain, and sat in on a town hall meeting with Nevada Congresswoman Dina Titus. Will 2025 turn out to be the year that Americans remake democracy?“I did 28 years in the army. I maintained an apolitical front at all times . . . I think we're sliding into tyranny, and I took an oath to support and defend the constitution and I'm going to do that whether in or out of uniform.” - Terrance Deuel“We are at a point where the wealthiest people in the world, like Elon Musk and all the Republicans enabling him, are turning to loot what is left of Medicaid, Medicare, and social security to bankroll even deeper tax cuts and sweetheart contracts for themselves, their fellow billionaires and their corporations. And our political system right now is ill prepared for this abuse of power.” - Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez“I think the message of the moment is to understand that the vast majority of the American people do not think that we give tax breaks to the rich and cut social security or veterans programs. They don't. And our job is to work as hard as we can. Part of what this tour is about is to get them involved in their own local communities.” - Bernie SandersGuests:• Jacqueline Davania-Williamson: Resident, Las Vegas, Nevada• Terrence Deuel: Veteran, U.S. Army• Thomas Dyer & Pam West: Retirees• Dr. Abdul El-Sayed: Health Director, Wayne County, Michigan• Shawn Fain: President, United Auto Workers (UAW)• Danielle & Jordan Lovik: Residents, Salt Lake City, Utah • Sandra & Raymond Martinez: Applicant & Social Security Recipient• Donavan McKinney: U.S. Representative (MI-11)• Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez: U.S. Representative (NY-14)• Bernie Sanders: U.S. Senator (VT); Fighting Oligarchy Tour• Dina Titus: U.S. Representative (NV-1) Watch the broadcast episode cut for time at our YouTube channel and airing on PBS stations across the country Subscribe to episode notes via Patreon Music Credit:  “Live For You" by Thee Sacred Souls from their album Got a Story to Tell courtesy of Daptone Records..  "Steppin", "All The Ways" & "Electric Car" by Podington Bear. Fed Chair Jerome Powell's Jackson Hole remarks sparked a Wall Street rally and renewed rate cut hopes, but Arthur Laffer remains cautious. He expects the August inflation numbers, including CPI and PPI, to have an outsized impact on the Fed's decision-making process. Laffer notes that while the short end of the yield curve has come down, the 10-year rate has ticked up, steepening the curve. He believes the Fed does not set the term structure and that long-term rates are driven by market expectations of inflation, not the Fed funds rate. He sees AI as a long-term driver of productivity growth and believes the S&P 500 can reach 6,600 this year and 7,000 next year.======== Schwab Network ========Empowering every investor and trader, every market day.
