How SCCA Road Rallies Turn Backroads Into A Puzzle

A road rally sounds like racing until you learn the best teams win by thinking, not speeding. We sit down with John Poulos from the Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) Texas Region to break down what road rally really means: precision driving on public roads, sharp navigation, and a driver-navigator team solving a moving puzzle while trying not to miss a turn.We dig into the different “flavors” of SCCA road rallies, from time speed distance formats to scavenger-hunt style gimmick rallies, then zoom in on a DFW shortest-distance map rally where you do not get a pre-set route. You get a map, a stack of waypoints, and limited planning time to build the most efficient loop, hit every location, and come back with the lowest mileage. We also cover practical details people always ask about: street-legal car requirements, classes based on experience (not car type), odometer calibration, time limits, and how modern GPS rally apps can verify waypoint visits without needing volunteers posted everywhere. After the rally talk, we pivot into two more listener-favorite segments: Jeff's Car Culture on choosing the right car jack for your garage (including low-profile and specialty options), and Mike Marrs' driving destinations that turn Houston's flood-control engineering into real places you can visit, like Addicks Reservoir, Barker Reservoir, Buffalo Bayou, Terry Hershey Park, and the San Jacinto Monument view.Subscribe, share this with a friend who needs a new kind of car event, and leave a review so more drivers can find the show. Finlandia obliga a arriesgar.

Play Episode Listen Later Jul 22, 2026 74:18

Earnings guidance from chipmakers and capital spending plans from Microsoft, Amazon, Alphabet, and Meta Platforms influence demand expectations across AI infrastructure. Interest rates and the Federal Reserve's policy path continue to shape valuation multiples and financing conditions. Founders should expect financing terms and customer budgets to shift with sector rotations, while monitoring export controls, packaging capacity, and memory supply risks. Supporters say the move was to address population shifts and to cut costs. Since then, criminal justice groups have weighed in on the action. They warn about a judicial process slow-down, case backlogs, and public safety. One of the judges who has lost her position is Judge Simone Levine of Section “A” of Criminal District Court. SHARESIES · MARKET MOVEMENTS · 8 JULY 2026 Jordan Cunningham, Sharesies Head of Data & Analytics Note: Filmed Tuesday 7 July. ↑ WHAT'S UP — Markets rallied. The Dow gained 2%, the S&P 500 rose 1.8%, the Nasdaq climbed 2.1%, and the ASX 200 finished up 0.9%, helped by its strongest trading session in three weeks. ↓ WHAT'S DOWN — Semiconductor stocks lagged despite the broader tech rebound, with the Philadelphia Semiconductor Index falling 4.4%. Reports that Meta could sell excess AI computing capacity reignited questions about whether the industry has built too much infrastructure. ! BIGGEST SURPRISES — US nonfarm payrolls increased by just 57,000 in June, well below expectations. Markets responded by sharply reducing the odds of another Fed rate hike, while falling oil prices continued to ease inflation concerns. Despite that, US Treasury yields finished the week slightly higher. ◎ WHAT TO WATCH — The Reserve Bank of New Zealand delivers its OCR decision this week, while the US releases FOMC meeting minutes and Q2 earnings season gets underway. ◈ BIGGER PICTURE — Investors are increasingly pricing in a world where inflation pressures continue to ease. Falling oil prices, a cooling US labour market and shifting central bank expectations have helped support equities, but the next test comes as companies begin reporting earnings and central banks reveal whether they're ready to change course.

January 6 Shadow on Trump's 250 Rallies

The barbarians are inside the gates and throwing a toxic masculinity pageant on the front lawn. While the United States should be preparing to honor the 250th anniversary of our democratic republic by working toward a more perfect union, Donald Trump has hijacked the historic milestone to throw corrupt, all-caps "TRUMP RALLIES" and UFC cage matches to distract from his economic warfare on the American people as he and his family rake in billions. This week, Mother Jones investigative reporter Dan Friedman joins Gaslit Nation to expose the blatant kleptocracy behind "Freedom 250," a shadowy, dark-money shell company created by the White House to bypass congressional oversight and strip taxpayer funds from the bipartisan America 250 Commission. This corporate-sponsored slush fund allows the administration to openly sell White House access to elite corporate donors and tech oligarchs seeking to build monopolies approved by Trump's DOJ and rake in tax breaks. Even more alarming: the contractor hired to run these "patriotic" events is Event Strategies, the exact same group that profited from organizing Trump's violent January 6th coup attempt. We refuse to normalize corruption. If we look away now, the floodgates will swing wide open for future autocrats to follow. What if rooting for the Knicks and rallying behind a nation-state are powered by the exact same part of the human brain? On this episode of Bro History, Henry and Danny are joined by Frankie Donnelly from South Philly — and yes, Frankie is an AI research co-host powered by maneku (maneku.ai) — to break down one of the most fascinating and disturbing parallels in modern life: sports fandom as a mirror of nationalism. It starts with the Knicks' electric playoff run taking over New York City, spirals into a deleted newspaper article comparing the OKC Thunder to the state of Israel, and ends somewhere between Mussolini's Italy and a pep rally. They dig into why MSG unites Orthodox Jews and Arab New Yorkers in a way Congress never could, why Knicks fans sacking Philadelphia felt like a Mongolian conquest, and how the same psychological machinery that makes you weep over a playoff loss is the same thing authoritarian regimes have weaponized for centuries — from Hitler's Nuremberg rallies to the 1978 Argentine World Cup. Frankie drops facts, pulls receipts, and says the uncomfortable quiet part out loud — all in real time. That's maneku. Try it yourself at maneku.ai.
