In this episode of the AI Agent & Copilot Podcast, host Tom Smith speaks with Vaishali Vinay, Data Scientist at Microsoft, and Raghav Bhatta, Data Scientist at Microsoft, about their upcoming masterclass at the 2026 AI Agent & Copilot Summit NA in San Diego. They discuss how AI can serve as a threat research partner for cybersecurity teams, augmenting human expertise in threat hunting and detection engineering while helping organizations proactively defend against increasingly sophisticated cyber attacks. Key Takeaways AI as a Threat Research Partner: Vinay explains that traditional threat hunting and detection engineering have historically been highly manual processes requiring significant time and expertise. AI can now assist by analyzing attacker behavior and identifying detection opportunities faster. As Vinay notes, the goal is to augment our human experts and accelerate this threat research process much faster. Scaling Cyber Defense in an AI-Powered Threat Landscape: Bhatta highlights that as AI adoption grows across industries, the volume of data and potential attack vectors increases rapidly. Organizations must therefore adapt AI for defensive purposes as well. “The amount of data which is produced… is increasing at a nonlinear scale,” Bhatta explains. AI copilots help defenders process this scale by assisting with detection engineering, threat hunting, and proactive defense strategies that protect infrastructure and customers from evolving cyber threats. Capturing and Sharing ‘Tribal Knowledge' Through AI: Cybersecurity often depends on the deep experience of veteran researchers who understand attacker behavior patterns. Bhatta suggests AI copilots can help scale that expertise across teams. He explains that copilots can serve as a “source of tribal knowledge,” enabling newer analysts and teams to leverage insights that historically lived only in the heads of experienced researchers. This dramatically increases productivity and knowledge transfer within security organizations. AI Attackers vs. AI Defenders: The session also acknowledges that cyber attackers are increasingly leveraging AI themselves. That makes defensive innovation essential. Vinay and Bhatta emphasize the importance of building AI systems that analyze attack techniques and automatically recommend detection rules. This dynamic defense model enables security teams to react faster to emerging threats and reduces the manual workload traditionally required to understand complex attack patterns. "Public markets are behaving more like private markets. Private markets want to behave more like public markets. So actually, they're just one market. What's not the same is the level of research, information, data disclosure. Correct. That's the only difference. It's this information gap that, to us, is the single biggest opportunity now.We think over the course of the next five to 10 years, there'll be more trading venues, more liquidity providers, more market makers, more investor types—all of that. And I think what Smartkarma has always done is be the information flow for part of capital markets. In fact, that sort of 74 billion number, I think, is quite conservative. I've seen other estimates that are close to 120 billion. So it depends on what you see as sort of growth and what you see beyond. But regardless, I think it's very large numbers, and the ratio of exit to invested capital is extremely low. A 50 billion hole is a pretty big hole." - Raghav Kapoor, CEO of SmartkarmaRaghav Kapoor, CEO & co-founder of Smartkarma, joined us for a conversation on the launch of PvtIQ and the structural transformation of Asia's private markets. Drawing from his experience building Smartkarma's independent research platform, Raghav explained how client demand for pre-IPO coverage led to creating PvtIQ, an intelligence platform designed to bridge the critical information gap in Southeast Asia's private markets. We discussed the striking imbalance where $74 billion has been invested into the region's tech ecosystem but only $23 billion has been returned through exits, highlighting the urgent need for better data infrastructure and price discovery. Raghav shared unique insights on how families dominate the region's investment landscape, why private and public markets are converging into one, and his vision for PvtIQ to become the intelligence backbone supporting companies, investors, and regulators in bringing more transparency and efficiency to Asia's rapidly evolving private market ecosystem.Episode Highlights:[00:00] Quote of the Day by Raghav Kapoor[00:57]] Smartkarma launches PvtIQ for Asia's private markets[03:11]] Investors requesting coverage three years before IPO[04:08]] Supporting MAS equity market development program[05:24]] Singapore's public markets languished despite private growth[06:13]] Path from fundraising to public listing explained[08:37]] $74 billion invested, only $23 billion exits[09:45]] Companies need support to achieve IPO readiness[11:00]] Capital chasing deals shifted to improving disclosure[11:57]] Southeast Asia's extreme market fragmentation challenges[13:23]] Families dominate and influence Southeast Asian markets[14:38]] Lack of data creates serious structural challenges[19:01]] Private market investors transitioning from momentum investing[20:18]] Digital banks provide disclosure model for research[21:24]] Late stage private rounds resemble public IPOs[23:26]] Liquidity without information is just volatility[24:06]] Private and public markets converging into one[25:30]] Information gap is the single biggest opportunity[27:00]] Private market research TAM already $8 billion[28:57]] What great looks like: intelligence backbone for Asia's private markets[30:57]] ClosingProfile: Raghav Kapoor, CEO and co-founder, SmartkarmaLinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/ragkap/Podcast Information: Bernard Leong hosts and produces the show. Raghav Malik, has just defended his PhD on the topic of compilers for privacy-preserving computation, and that's a good chunk of our conversation. He has also spent some years in grad school going down the rabbit hole to actually learn Category Theory in depth and from first principles, so I was deieing to ask him if category theory is really all that to learn the foundations of PL. In other words, does learning category theory really make you a better PL researcher? Then, of course, I wouldn't finish this episode without asking him how he coped with Mental Health during his PhD Journey. Links Raghav's Website TTFA Patreon TTFA Merch Store TTFA Ko-Fi

“Raghav's expression for discomfort is laughter, counterintuitively. We call it his cranky laughter.” Sanath RameshImagine not being able to tell the people around that you are in pain. Or more accurately, imagine that you have no way of telling whether your child is in pain. If that child is usually happy and laughing, imagine your horror when you figure out that laughter means “ow.”For Brittany, while Evie can tell her when she is in pain, Evie is so used to the pain that she may not even mention it until it is extreme. And sometimes that is too late to avert a crisis.Pain management is a very difficult problem in the best of circumstances. For Sanath and Ramya, it gets even more complicated. The treatments they have found that work tend to lose effectiveness after a while. ALS, a nervous system disease, ruled the headlines in the summer of 2014 thanks to the viral Ice Bucket Challenge. How has our knowledge of the disorder evolved a decade later? Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, also known as ‘Lou Gehrig's disease' (named after the iconic baseball player), is a progressive neurological disorder which breaks down a person's motor neurons. The main symptoms are muscle weakness and impaired physical function — mild, at first, but in the latter stages of the disease's progression, essential processes like breathing begin to fail. Most individuals face a life expectancy of two to five years. A small percentage live five to ten years. And an even tinier group survive beyond a decade. Most famously, renowned physicist Stephen Hawking survived more than 50 years past his diagnosis, in part due to the intensive care he was able to afford. In this episode of the ‘Your Brain On...' podcast, we discuss: • What ALS is, and how it affects the brain and the body • The onset and progression of ALS, from the earliest symptoms to the end-stage impacts • How ALS patients are diagnosed, treated, and cared for • Likely causes of ALS, including genetic predispositions and potential environmental risk factors • How new technologies are rapidly accelerating our understanding of ALS, especially in genetics Joining us for this installment of the show are two world-class experts on the disease: • Professor Ammar Al-Chalabi PhD, Professor of Neurology and Complex Disease Genetics at the Maurice Wohl Clinical Neuroscience Institute at King's College. • Merit Cudkowicz, Director of the Sean M. In this impactful episode of the Power Producers Shoptalk, David Carothers brings on guest Raghav Tana to discuss the personal challenges and profound purpose behind Raghav's initiative, the Little Sparks Project. This nonprofit organization aims to provide financial and emotional support to families of children with complex medical needs, sparked by Raghav's experiences with his son, who was born with Apert Syndrome. David shares his own journey with his son Ethan, who has special needs, reflecting on the emotional and financial toll of ensuring adequate care. They discuss the importance of advocacy, community support, and how their personal hardships have led to a shared mission of helping others facing similar struggles. The episode highlights the upcoming Little Sparks Project gala in December, emphasizing the importance of donations and community involvement. Key Points Introduction to the Little Sparks Project Purpose: The Little Sparks Project was founded to assist families financially when they have children with medical complexities, alleviating some of the financial strain that comes with hospital stays, surgeries, and extra care for children under 12. Inspiration: Raghav shares how his son's rare condition, Apert Syndrome, motivated him to start the organization. He and his wife realized how fortunate they were to afford the costs associated with his son's care and wanted to help other families facing similar situations but lacking resources. The Emotional and Financial Burdens of Special Needs Care Emotional Toll: David and Raghav talk openly about their experiences as fathers of children with special needs. They emphasize the importance of having a support system and the mental challenges that come with the “why me” question when navigating these situations. Financial Costs: The episode sheds light on the often-hidden financial burdens, from medical bills to daily expenses related to special needs care. For example, Raghav mentions spending over $42,000 in the first 14 months of his son's life on healthcare-related costs, a financial load many families are unprepared for. Advocacy and Support Networks Importance of Advocacy: David shares how he and his wife advocate for their son in school and medical environments, often facing challenges but ensuring he gets the resources he needs. This proactive approach in advocating for children is critical, and it's something Little Sparks also aims to support. Emotional Support: Both David and Raghav emphasize that asking for help is not a weakness but a necessity. They encourage listeners going through similar situations to seek out emotional and social support, which is crucial for maintaining resilience. The Little Sparks Gala Event Details: The Little Sparks Project is hosting a black-tie gala on December 19 at the State Room in Boston, with limited tickets remaining. The gala is a unique opportunity for supporters in the insurance and wider business community to come together, raise funds, and create awareness for the cause. Impact and Support: The gala will have a silent auction and speakers, with all proceeds going toward supporting families in need. Raghav and David encourage listeners who can't attend in person to contribute financially, helping provide resources for families facing similar journeys. How to Support Little Sparks For listeners who wish to make a difference, a donation link is available in the show notes, and every contribution, no matter the size, is meaningful. David stresses that financial support can significantly relieve families of financial stress, allowing them to focus on their children's needs without added financial anxiety.
