Recorded live at Stubb's in Austin, Texas Take host Jeremy Wallace sits down with Beto O'Rourke for a conversation about why he chose not to run for office this cycle and what he's doing instead. O'Rourke talks about his work with Powered by People, efforts to register and turn out new voters across Texas, and why down-ballot races matter as much as marquee contests. The discussion also touches on Democratic primary dynamics where O'Rourke weighs in on the race between Jasmine Crockett and James Talarico, voter suppression, the stakes of the 2026 midterms, and the unexpected parallels between grassroots politics and punk rock, drawing on O'Rourke's time as a musician. 2026-01-19 | UPDATES #107 | Doing the Devil's Work: Stephen Miller and America's “Law of the Jungle” Agenda. The 21st century has somehow become entangled with the 20th – an echo of fascistic philosophy, predatory empires and a breakdown in global security and trust, that led to the horrors of the second world war. We can witness the 21st century descending into behaviours that almost destroyed civilisation a century ago, and language that echoes that of the side that lost. Stephen Miller is the starkest example of this, but not the only one. Take his appearance on prime-time TV for instance, a senior White House aide arguing, that a country doesn't deserve its territory unless it can physically hold it. Not by treaty. Not by law. Not by self-determination. By brute force. By “territorial control.” Survival of the fittest and nastiest. The target isn't some distant adversary. It's Denmark. A NATO ally. Over Greenland. This is not a gaffe. It's a doctrine. And the face of it right now is Stephen Miller, and quite possibly the architect, from the American side. On Friday night, Stephen Miller went on Fox News and offered what can only be described as a pseudo-legal justification for acquisition-by-bullying. He dismissed Denmark like it was tenant in default, that must be evicted, not as an ally. ----------SUPPORT THE CHANNEL:https://www.buymeacoffee.com/siliconcurtainhttps://www.patreon.com/siliconcurtain----------SOURCES: Reuters (Jan 18, 2026): Dutch FM calls Greenland tariff threat “blackmail” AP (Jan 17, 2026): Trump tariff announcement timeline and “Complete and Total purchase” language The Guardian (Jan 17, 2026): tariff escalation reporting The Guardian (Jan 17, 2026): Keir Starmer statement “completely wrong” Le Monde (Jan 18, 2026): Miller's “tiny country” framing and “polar competition” rationale The Daily Beast (Jan 17-18, 2026): Miller's Hannity remarks and “territorial control” formulationCNN transcript (Jan 5, 2026): “governed by strength… force… power” quoteAP (Jan 2026): “In his own words” roundup of Miller's statements and worldview framing The Atlantic (Jan 2026): reporting on Miller's operational control and immigration enforcement targets UN legal materials on Article 2(4) and use-of-force principles Helsinki Final Act / territorial integrity principle (CSCE)----------SILICON CURTAIN LIVE EVENTS - FUNDRAISER CAMPAIGN Events in 2025 - Advocacy for a Ukrainian victory with Silicon Curtainhttps://buymeacoffee.com/siliconcurtain/extrasOur events of the first half of the year in Lviv, Kyiv and Odesa were a huge success. In this episode of Exploring A Course in Miracles, Emily & Robert Perry sit down with New York Times bestselling author and Sirius XM host John Fugelsang to explore his insightful new book, Separation of Church and Hate: A Sane Person's Guide to Taking Back the Bible from Fundamentalists, Fascists, and Flock-Fleecing Frauds*. John has spent years unpacking how the teachings of Jesus have been distorted by Christian nationalism—and why reclaiming Jesus' message of love, justice, and human dignity is more urgent than ever. Along the way, there is a reflection on the surprising overlap between John's biblical insights and the message of A Course in Miracles—especially the emphasis on refusing to meet hatred with more hatred. ___________________________ Since 1993, our purpose has been to help with both the theory and practical application of A Course in Miracles. The success of new far-right movements cannot be explained by fear or rage alone – the pleasures of aggression and violence are just as essential. As such, racism is particularly intense when it is erotically charged, migration presenting as a sexual threat to white women being one of many examples. Germany's strikingly successful right-wing political party Alternative für Deutschland is, according to the historian Dagmar Herzog, characterized by this “sexy racism,” with its second main feature being that of an obsessive hostility to disability – both elements resonating strongly with Nazism. In The New Fascist Body, Herzog connects her analysis of fascism's libidinous energy with its animus against bodies perceived as imperfect. Only by studying the emotional and intellectual worlds of past fascisms can we understand and combat their current manifestations. The book features an afterword by Alberto Toscano, author of Late Fascism: Race, Capitalism and the Politics of Crisis (Verso 2023). Lisa Schmidt-Herzog is a Berlin-based writer and researcher. Her academic work focuses on the biopolitics of medical standardization and the influence of cultural and ethico-political norms on mental health and illness. She is interested in the historicity of scientific concepts and subject-centered approaches to health and illness, and examines the radical thought of theorists and practitioners such as Georges Canguilhem, Frantz Fanon, and Erich Wulff. It's another day living with tens of millions of third-world Indians stealing American jobs, careers, citizenship, and resources—and therefore it's another day of learning that everything Indians is based on traditional third-world fraud, ethno-fascist nepotism, and vicious clan-centric self-serving exploitation of “others.”Spoiler: the “others” being exploited are YOU and ME and EVERY OTHER tax paying (e.g., white) American citizen.

Is it Chairman Kim, is it Xi Jinping?” The most dangerous person in the world is Randi Weingarten. It's not a close call.” At least, that's what Mike Pompeo, the former CIA Director and former US Secretary of State, told a reporter in 2022.Three years later, Randi Weingarten's rebuttal takes the form of a book, Why Fascists Fear Teachers: Public Education and the Future of Democracy, in which the long-time President of the American Federation of Teachers, representing nearly 2 million members, mounts a defense of democracy, teachers, and our public schools, arguing that “Public schools are laboratories of civil society and, at their best, embody the multifaith, multiracial coexistence that is our nation's best future…Fascists fear teachers because education is essential to democracy.”At its core are conjoined and fundamental questions I think we took for granted, until recently, as settled consensus in the United States of America: What is democracy? What is the role of public schools in a pluralistic democratic nation, and why are both worth keeping? To help us answer these questions and understand why fascists fear teachers is none other than AFT President, Randi Weingarten. Why Fascists Fear Teachers (AFT website)

In this episode of the Crazy Wisdom Podcast, host Stewart Alsop interviews Aurelio Gialluca, an economist and full stack data professional who works across finance, retail, and AI as both a data engineer and machine learning developer, while also exploring human consciousness and psychology. Their wide-ranging conversation covers the intersection of science and psychology, the unique cultural characteristics that make Argentina a haven for eccentrics (drawing parallels to the United States), and how Argentine culture has produced globally influential figures from Borges to Maradona to Che Guevara. They explore the current AI landscape as a "centralizing force" creating cultural homogenization (particularly evident in LinkedIn's cookie-cutter content), discuss the potential futures of AI development from dystopian surveillance states to anarchic chaos, and examine how Argentina's emotionally mature, non-linear communication style might offer insights for navigating technological change. The conversation concludes with Gialluca describing his ambitious project to build a custom water-cooled workstation with industrial-grade processors for his quantitative hedge fund, highlighting the practical challenges of heat management and the recent tripling of RAM prices due to market consolidation.Timestams00:00 Exploring the Intersection of Psychology and Science02:55 Cultural Eccentricity: Argentina vs. the United States05:36 The Influence of Religion on National Identity08:50 The Unique Argentine Cultural Landscape11:49 Soft Power and Cultural Influence14:48 Political Figures and Their Cultural Impact17:50 The Role of Sports in Shaping National Identity20:49 The Evolution of Argentine Music and Subcultures23:41 AI and the Future of Cultural Dynamics26:47 Navigating the Chaos of AI in Culture33:50 Equilibrating Society for a Sustainable Future35:10 The Patchwork Age: Decentralization and Society35:56 The Impact of AI on Human Connection38:06 Individualism vs. Collective Rules in Society39:26 The Future of AI and Global Regulations40:16 Biotechnology: The Next Frontier42:19 Building a Personal AI Lab45:51 Tiers of AI Labs: From Personal to Industrial48:35 Mathematics and AI: The Foundation of Innovation52:12 Stochastic Models and Predictive Analytics55:47 Building a Supercomputer: Hardware InsightsKey Insights1. Argentina's Cultural Exceptionalism and Emotional Maturity: Argentina stands out globally for allowing eccentrics to flourish and having a non-linear communication style that Gialluca describes as "non-monotonous systems." Argentines can joke profoundly and be eccentric while simultaneously being completely organized and straightforward, demonstrating high emotional intelligence and maturity that comes from their unique cultural blend of European romanticism and Latino lightheartedness.2. Argentina as an Underrecognized Cultural Superpower: Despite being introverted about their achievements, Argentina produces an enormous amount of global culture through music, literature, and iconic figures like Borges, Maradona, Messi, and Che Guevara. These cultural exports have shaped entire generations worldwide, with Argentina "stealing the thunder" from other nations and creating lasting soft power influence that people don't fully recognize as Argentine.3. AI's Cultural Impact Follows Oscillating Patterns: Culture operates as a dynamic system that oscillates between centralization and decentralization like a sine wave. AI currently represents a massive centralizing force, as seen in LinkedIn's homogenized content, but this will inevitably trigger a decentralization phase. The speed of this cultural transformation has accelerated dramatically, with changes that once took generations now happening in years.4. The Coming Bifurcation of AI Futures: Gialluca identifies two extreme possible endpoints for AI development: complete centralized control (the "Mordor" scenario with total surveillance) or complete chaos where everyone has access to dangerous capabilities like creating weapons or viruses. Finding a middle path between these extremes is essential for society's survival, requiring careful equilibrium between accessibility and safety.5. Individual AI Labs Are Becoming Democratically Accessible: Gialluca outlines a tier system for AI capabilities, where individuals can now build "tier one" labs capable of fine-tuning models and processing massive datasets for tens of thousands of dollars. This democratization means that capabilities once requiring teams of PhD scientists can now be achieved by dedicated individuals, fundamentally changing the landscape of AI development and access.6. Hardware Constraints Are the New Limiting Factor: While AI capabilities are rapidly advancing, practical implementation is increasingly constrained by hardware availability and cost. RAM prices have tripled in recent months, and the challenge of managing enormous heat output from powerful processors requires sophisticated cooling systems. These physical limitations are becoming the primary bottleneck for individual AI development.7. Data Quality Over Quantity Is the Critical Challenge: The main bottleneck for AI advancement is no longer energy or GPUs, but high-quality data for training. Early data labeling efforts produced poor results because labelers lacked domain expertise. The future lies in reinforcement learning (RL) environments where AI systems can generate their own high-quality training data, representing a fundamental shift in how AI systems learn and develop.

It's history that Japanese conservatives are trying to suppress. The Japanese Imperial Army's Unit 731 was the chemical and biological warfare facility that conducted experiments on about 14,000 people in China. Episode Summary:In this episode of Explaining History, Nick explores the neglected connection between economic austerity and political repression in the early years of Fascist Italy.Drawing on the groundbreaking work of economist Clara Mattei, we delve into how Mussolini's regime used budget cuts, regressive taxation, and mass layoffs not just to balance the books, but to crush the Italian working class. We examine the "Two Red Years" (Biennio Rosso) that terrified the bourgeoisie and how Fascism was welcomed by liberal elites as a necessary tool to restore order and protect private capital. From the hiking of third-class rail fares to the slashing of veteran benefits, we unpack how economic policy was weaponized to reverse the democratic gains of the post-WWI era. Was austerity the true engine of the Fascist counter-revolution?Key Topics:Austerity as Repression: How economic policy was used to discipline the working class. The Liberal-Fascist Alliance: Why mainstream economists supported Mussolini. The Biennio Rosso: The socialist uprising that terrified Italy's elites. The Motto "Nothing for Nothing": De Stefani's ruthless approach to public spending.Resources:"Austerity and Repressive Politics: Italian Economists and the Early Years of the Fascist Government" by Clara Mattei (Institute of Economics, Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna)Explaining History helps you understand the 20th Century through critical conversations and expert interviews. In this episode, Bill talks with John Fugelsang about his new book, Separation of Church and Hate: A Sane Person's Guide to Taking Back the Bible from Fundamentalists, Fascists, and Flock-Fleecing Frauds. The discussion focuses on what it really means to follow the teachings of Jesus Christ and critiques the hypocrisy of the religious right. Fugelsang argues that fundamentalists have hijacked Christianity, using it to justify hateful and exclusionary policies while ignoring the core messages of Jesus about love, humility, and service to others. He also addresses hot-button issues like abortion, immigration, and LGBTQ rights, tying each back to scripture to expose the contradictions in right-wing Christian rhetoric. The conversation ends by highlighting progressive Christians and leaders who are working to reclaim Christianity from the clutches of fundamentalism. You can purchase his great book here.Today's Bill Press Pod is supported by The Ironworkers Union. Email us: Will@faithfulpoliticspodcast.comIn this wide-ranging and deeply personal conversation, Will Wright sits down with comedian, broadcaster, and author John Fugelsang to unpack how Christianity became entangled with political power - and how the teachings of Jesus have been distorted to justify cruelty, exclusion, and authoritarianism.Drawing from his book Separation of Church and Hate, Fugelsang challenges the idea that modern right-wing politics reflect Christian values. He walks through how scripture is selectively weaponized around issues like immigration, LGBTQ rights, abortion, gun policy, and punishment, while the actual teachings of Jesus - care for the poor, welcome the stranger, reject violence, and show mercy - are ignored. The discussion moves beyond critique and toward hope. Fugelsang reflects on his unusual upbringing as the son of a former nun and Franciscan brother, his journey through faith and doubt, and why he still believes Jesus matters even for people who have deconstructed organized religion. Together, Will and John explore what a healthier relationship between faith and public life could look like - one rooted in compassion rather than dominance, and transformation rather than fear. This episode is an honest, challenging, and often humorous examination of what it really means to follow Jesus in a polarized political age. Topics include: • How Trump's team is using drug-war theater on the high seas to test-drive a terrifying theory of power: if anyone can be labeled a “terrorist,” anyone can be stripped of rights, due process, or worse.• Why a dry-sounding “National Security Strategy” document is actually a seismic attempt to cozy up to far-right, fascist-adjacent movements in Europe—and what that means for democracy here and abroad.• The quiet rebellion inside the GOP: discharge petitions, surprise votes in places like Indiana, and why the spell around Trump might finally be cracking, just a little. - Why Tom's race matters: Former congressman Tom Malinowski joins Jo to connect all of it: foreign policy, Trump's grift, Republican cowardice, and the first big House race for Mikie Sherrill's old New Jersey seat. He lays out what real accountability could look like if Democrats claw back power. SANE(ish) Partners - AuraFrames: Exclusive $35-off Carver Mat at https://on.auraframes.com/JOJO. John talks about the epic failures by Trump lackies to accomplish many of his tasks including a federal judge ordering Kilmar Abrego Garcia released from federal detention and Trump's redistricting plan for Indiana being soundly rejected by a bipartisan majority in the state house. Then, he chats with Democratic Strategist Max Burns on the Senate rejected both the Democrat AND Republican healthcare bills, and Trump's newest war with Venezuela. Then finally, John jokes with comedian Tara Dublin on the chaotic mishaps in the news and they take calls from the Evil Army of the Night on how to navigate the mayhem of Trumpland.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Recent news almost completely echoes the plot of the 1991 film "Wag The Dog". Sex scandal...start stupid "war" to change the subject. Forget the "drug war" in Venezuela or Trump's riff on Somalia. He's a master of distraction and the Epstein Files are STILL out there. We catch up on the FIFA Peace Prize winner and why Sylvester Stallone doesn't mind getting an award from a Fascist. That's keeping it classy, Sly...

Donate towards buses to bring people to DC.Today we share comments from Sunsara Taylor, co-initiator of RefuseFascism.org, about recent developments: the extreme demonization and dehumanization of immigrants, the threats against those Democrats who have pointed out that troops take an oath to the constitution and have a responsibility to refuse illegal orders, and the threats of war against Venezuela. Then, Sam interviews Dr. Nicholas Grossman, political science professor at the University of Illinois and author of Drones and Terrorism about the Trump fascist regime's views towards war, war crimes and their efforts to change the military in line with their goals, which seems to be coming to a head with the US strikes on boats in the Caribbean and threads against Venezuela. This is a free preview of a paid episode. To hear more, visit wisdomofcrowds.liveA few years ago, Lea Ypi was scrolling through Facebook when she came across a family photo she had never seen before. Someone had discovered a photograph of Ypi's grandparents on their honeymoon and posted it on a public Facebook group. Ypi — a philosophy professor from Albania who teaches at the London School of Economics — was dismayed by the comments on the photograph, which ranged from inaccurate to judgmental to just plain mean. Were the husband and wife in this photo Albanian aristocrats? Fascist collaborators? Victims of Communism? Responding to the trolls — as well as, as she puts it, “taking the trolls seriously” — Ypi decided to write a book reconstructing her grandparents' story. The result is Indignity: A Life Reimagined, a book which asks, among other things, what does human dignity really mean? What makes this book even more interesting is that Ypi's grandparents lived through some of the most dramatic moments in the twentieth century: the fall of the Ottoman Empire, the rise of Fascism, and World War II. Ypi joins Damir and Santiago, who want to understand Ypi's own philosophical priors. Damir wants to know where moral responsibility ends and and the structural forces of history begin. Santiago asks whether dignity, as a concept, has a metaphysical foundation. The result is a wide-ranging conversation that covers history, literature, philosophy and more.In our bonus section for paid subscribers, Santiago asks Ypi about the difference between Fascist and Communist decision-making; Damir presses Ypi on the question of free will; Ypi discusses her two-point prescription for a better Europe; Santiago asks Ypi whether it's hard to write about one's country in a foreign language; and finally, Ypi's hot take on Zohran Mamdani.Required Reading:* Lea Ypi, Indignity: A Life Reimagined (Amazon). * Lea Ypi, Free: Coming of Age at the End of History (Amazon). * Immanuel Kant, Groundwork for the Metaphysics of Morals (Amazon). * Friedrich Schiller, On the Aesthetic Education of Man (Amazon). Patrick Bet-David, Tom Ellsworth, Vincent Oshana, and Adam Sosnick break down Zohran Mamdani calling Trump a fascist, Marjorie Taylor Greene's sudden resignation, Putin's proposed peace deal, and explosive allegations that Minnesota tax dollars may have indirectly funded Al-Shabaab.------
Trump flips the script on socialist Mamdani with a single line: “Just say yes.” The viral Oval Office moment caught the internet by surprise as both sides claimed victory. But insiders say Trump walked away owning the narrative and neutralizing the attack.

In an exclusive interview with Meet the Press, New York City Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani describes his “productive” Oval Office meeting with President Trump, during which the president offered warm praise — but says he still views Trump as a “fascist” and a “despot,” even as he plans to work with the White House. New Discourses Bullets, Ep. 136 When it comes to economic organization (not necessarily political organization), we might be tempted to ask why it is that Fascist economies don't work. It seems like they might, after all, once you understand that they still enable what might be called a "deferred free enterprise" system, allowing for the profit motive after the government gets its own. In this episode of New Discourses Bullets, host James Lindsay (featuring a post by Logan Lancing) dives into the problem with Fascist (Stakeholder) economic models on a variety of levels, using both economic theory and historical and contemporary examples to make his point. Join him to understand why we should not readily embrace such a model for ourselves. Latest from New Discourses Press! "We can respond to oligarchy and authoritarianism with the strength it fears, not the appeasement it craves." – Zohran Mamdani Welcome to the Gaslit Nation Election Super Special – a block party celebrating the proud American tradition of punching Nazis. Election Day 2025 will go down in history as D-Day for democracy. Terrell Starr joins Andrea to break down what these nationwide victories mean for the future, from the midterms and beyond. It's clear who Americans blame for the government shutdown. The blue tsunami showed up and reshaped the map, literally. In Virginia, Abigail Spanberger made history as the state's first woman governor as Democrats swept the governorship, lieutenant governorship, and attorney general, with nearly every county shifting blue. In New Jersey, Mikie Sherrill became the first Democratic woman to lead the state, with Democrats gaining seats across the legislature. Our people-powered victories weren't a "blue bubble" story as Donald Trump wants you to believe. Democrats flipped two seats in Mississippi, two statewide offices in Georgia, won the Pennsylvania Supreme Court, and wiped GOP control off the Bucks County school board. Colorado voted to feed kids, Charlotte funded transit, Maine rejected voter suppression, progressive D.A.s Larry Krasner in Philadelphia and Alvin Bragg in Manhattan won re-election, and California overwhelmingly voted for redistricting self-defense against GOP autocracy. More on the redistricting battle in future episodes. And in New York City, Zohran Mamdani, just 34, the city's first Muslim mayor and the youngest since 1982, the first candidate to get over 1 million votes since 1969, delivered a victory speech so electric it could light up Times Square, reminding us that unity and humanity are the real antidotes to greed and fear. The fascists forced a fight, and democracy punched back. This is only the beginning. Thank you to every Gaslit Nation listener who voted, who showed up for your community, for our shared livable future that we will build together, and who kept hope alive on our darkest days. We will overcome with our moral force and defiance. To listen to the full episode, join the Gaslit Nation community. Want to hear Gaslit Nation ad-free? Five centuries ago, Johannes Gutenberg's printing press shattered the barriers to knowledge. Today, AI is doing the same. Sharon takes you on a journey into history that is strikingly similar to where we are today. Plus, she's joined by Randi Weingarten, author of Why Fascists Fear Teachers whom critics have called “the most dangerous person in the world.” Together, they explore why teachers remain democracy's first line of defense against authoritarianism. And Sharon answers your most pressing questions: Why is the US giving Argentina a $40 Billion bailout? Are there ways Trump could run for a third term? Can Biden's pardons be overturned? If you'd like to submit a question, head to thepreamble.com/podcast – we'd love to hear from you there. And be sure to read our weekly magazine at ThePreamble.com – it's free!
