In July of 2023, just a few weeks before SAG-AFTRA asked podcasters to refrain from discussing struck work, we recorded an episode on the Tomb Raider movie. With the strike over and ending on good terms, we felt it appropriate to finally release this episode to the public. Lara Croft: Tomb Raider is a peak 2001 (pre-9/11) movie in which Angelina Jolie is an adventurer seeking to acquire ancient artifacts said to being the key to controlling the flow of time. Up against her are the Iluminatii and her rival, played by a pre-Bond Daniel Craig. Our rating: 3.5/5 movie 5/5 adaptation Next Month: Resident Evil: Extinction Twitter | Discord Dan | Maxie

One of the scariest things for scientists is watching entertainment media portray your field of study inaccurately—the horror! Flood resilience officer and social volcanologist Jazmin Scarlett turned her hobby of playing video games into a paper discussing the depictions of volcanic hazards in games such as Pokémon, LEGO DC Super Villains, and Shadow of the Tomb Raider. The typical video game volcano nearly always has molten lava, but would these games be even more fun to play if they incorporated fissure eruptions, pyroclastic flows, and the dangerous effects of ash and toxic gasses? Jazmin talked with us about her views on natural disasters in fiction media, what scares her about volcanoes, and why she left volcanology to work on flood resilience with the UK's Environment Agency. This episode was produced by Katrina Jackson and mixed by Collin Warren. Art by Jace Steiner.

If you've visited a high street in the last 40 years there's a good chance you've seen Games Workshop, a British institution that's stood the test of time. One of its Founders, Sir Ian Livingstone, sold out of the company in the 90s but continued to make an unbelievable impact in the games industry, alongside being an angel investor and a best-selling fantasy author. He's had a hand in Tomb Raider, Hitman, Championship Manager, Fall Guys and Golf Clash to name just a few. So you've absolutely played something he's helped bring to market. Last year Ian released his memoir, Dice Men, which tells the story of the early days of Games Workshop and he has recently opened his own academy in Bournemouth. Writing a Pilot is one of the more difficult undertakings of a Screenwriter. It must set up an entire series without revealing too much of the series journey, engage the audience with questions, but not leave enough questions to be confusing. A great pilot starts with a great outline. In this episode, hosts Tasha Huo and Josh Hallman discuss how TV Pilots are broken and outlined in a professional writer's room, and how to take those lessons with you to your own personal pilot process. TWIW: the Writer's Strike is over! A new series is coming to the Act Two Podcast. Tasha was on a panel at the Netherlands Film Festival! Josh broke his ankle, which has ripple effects to the upcoming Patreon. Tasha's TOMB RAIDER teaser came out! Questions / Comments: ActTwoWriters@gmail.com Edited by the GREAT Paul Lundquist

Talk about covering all the show's monthly topics for a buzz-beater podcast! EstoBro opens the show by inclining to TV what Pokémon trading card promotion he would rather take advantage of (4:00), with three major events all going on simultaneously. The last topic the Gents have left to talk about in the month of September is an episode dedicated to video games, and they first start discussing the live-action movie adaptation of Gran Turismo (25:10), the hit sensation racing game that had at least one major box office weekend this summer. Over the past few weeks, some major titles have been released and have gained some major attraction, including Bethesda making their initial exclusive release with Starfield (40:00); followed by one of Sony's signature franchise titles with Final Fantasy XVI. Both titles have been heavily anticipated, however, the release of the indie game Sea of Stars making its debut in the middle of these games is quietly making a case for one of the best video games of the year (52:05). The major release of Mortal Kombat 1 looked like it was having one of the best releases so far (60:05), but there has been more inclining evidence that is not the case. Finally, the show needed to touch base on a hot topic that has been all over the internet and bringing the world together (75:10). There is a new 'power couple alert' with the reveal that Kansas Chiefs superstar Travis Kelce has struck up a relationship with sensational pop star Taylor Swift. The Gents could not hesitate to report on this news that broke and is a great leeway on what will take place in next week's episode. You read that title correctly, the second longest WGA strike is officially over! But as that ends, the SAG strike continues, and a SAG strike against the video game publishers looms. Meanwhile, final wrap ups from Tokyo Game Show, The Xbox Activision Deal is finally free to close, Jim Ryan is retiring from PlayStation, and Meta drops details about the Meta Quest 3. In Hollywood, Netflix debuts trailers for a lot of new animation, Amazon is bringing ad's to Prime Video, and Dan Harmon opens up about his working "relationship" with Justin Roiland. To cap off the show we have my favorite 10 80s Family Movies.

A ground breaking 3rd person 3d action-adventure game that led the charge of the strong female protagonist in video games. Developed by Core Design and published by Eidos this series is still going strong 27 years later. The first 3 games in the series were Playstation 1 best sellers and would forever tie Sony to the Tomb Raider series in our minds. Defined by its exotic and often difficult gameplay of exploring, solving enviromental puzzles, acrobatics and light combat. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
