Today on the Daily Dental Podcast, Dr. Killeen shares insights from a fascinating article about facial expressions—and why we so often misread what people are actually feeling. He connects the science to everyday moments in the dental office, from patient interactions to team communication, and explains how a “neutral” face can sometimes send the wrong signal. It's a relaxed, practical conversation about awareness, body language, and small adjustments that can go a long way in building trust with patients and your team.
The pilgrim has found the perfect perch to see the full scope and length of the parade of allegories at the top of the Mount Purgatory in the garden of Eden. After the griffin and its chariot come seven merry women and seven more somber men. They are complex allegories that have inspired much debate.More than that, they are also an atemporal moment, something outside of chronological time, the way revelation most often happens.Join me, Mark Scarbrough, as we look more closely at the end of the (first half of the) apocalyptic parade our pilgrim witnesses from across the river Lethe. If you'd like to help with the many costs of this podcast, please consider a very small monthly stipend or a one-time gift, using this PayPal link right here. Here are the segments for this episode of WALKING WITH DANTE:[01:13] My English translation of PURGATORIO, Canto XXIX, Lines 121 - 154. Over the holidays, we're rebroadcasting some of our favorite interviews from 2025. President Donald Trump this summer set off an unusual mid-decade redistricting scramble after he asked Republican-led states to redraw their congressional districts to give the GOP more seats in Congress. California Democrats responded with their own new map, which voters approved through Proposition 50 in November. In this episode of the Anglotopia podcast, host Jonathan Thomas discusses exciting plans for 2026, including his personal goal of walking Hadrian's Wall, the revival of Anglotopia's online store, and major cultural events happening across Britain. He highlights significant Royal anniversaries, exhibitions, and theatre performances to look forward to, emphasizing the importance of planning ahead for Anglophiles. The episode concludes with a call to support Anglotopia through the Friends of Anglotopia Club. Links Friends of Anglotopia Cornish Smuggler's Tea Anglotopia Store Macs Adventure Shadowlands with Huge Bonneville Sorry, Prime Minister Tickets The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry Takeaways Walking Hadrian's Wall is a personal goal for Jonathan. Anglotopia is reviving its online store after ceasing imports. 2026 marks Queen Elizabeth II's 100th birthday with special events. The Bayeux Tapestry will be exhibited at the British Museum. Celebrations for Beatrix Potter and other British icons are planned. New museums, including V&A East, will open in 2026. Winston Churchill's paintings will be featured in an exhibition. Theatre performances in London's West End are highly anticipated. Planning ahead is crucial for Anglophiles traveling to Britain. Joining the Friends of Anglotopia Club supports British culture. Sound Bites 1. The Big Commitment (Line 38) "So we closed this deal about a month or two ago and that's a big deal because now I have to do it. There's people counting on me to do this. Macs Adventure is counting on me doing it, my business is counting on me to do it, so I have to do it. I don't have a choice." 2. The Challenge Ahead (Line 14) "It involves physically preparing to walk 84 miles on purpose. And I, as you can see, I'm not in the best of shape. So the idea of walking so many miles is kind of daunting to me." 3. You're All Coming Along (Line 44) "That's the big thing for Anglotopia in 26 is I'm walking Hadrian's Wall. I don't have a choice and you're all coming along for the ride with me." 4. Personal Health Stakes (Lines 26-28) "It's for my own health. I'm not in great health. Preparing training for the walk will improve my health and having done it will also improve my health, and I'm hoping that it kind of ushers in a new era where hopefully once a year I do one of these famous long distance walks in Britain." 5. The Bayeux Tapestry Coup (Lines 105-106) "I don't know how they got the French to agree to this. Apparently it took years of negotiations, but the Bayeux Tapestry is gonna leave France and come to the British Museum for a special exhibition. One hopes they give it back when they're done." 6. Queen Elizabeth 100 (Lines 80-82) "April would have been Queen Elizabeth II's 100th birthday. And so we're expecting a lot of commemorations around that… It'll be a chance for people to kind of reflect and remember the lovely days of the reign of Elizabeth II." 7. The London Museum Opening (Lines 166-168) "It might almost be worth making a special trip for—not just because I like London's history, but it's to see the building itself. The Smithfield Market is an architectural jewel of London." 8. Churchill's Painting Secret (Lines 185-186) "He famously used it to help cope with his mental health, because when he was having the most troubles, he would just go paint, and he would find solace in painting." 9. Television Turns 100 (Line 112) "Many people don't know that a Brit actually made invented television. And so January 26, 2026 will mark the 100th anniversary of Brit John Logie Baird's first public demonstration of television in London." 10. Yes Prime Minister Passion (Lines 220-222) "Yes Minister and Yes Prime Minister are my favorite British comedy show of all time. I've watched it a dozen times over and over. The parade goes on to include a Roman, two-wheeled, victory chariot between the four animals. Before October 7th, Trump’s second term and the election of Zohran Mamdani rocked New York’s Jewish community, Manhattan’s famed 92nd Street Y – like most mainstream Jewish institutions – played it relatively safe when it came to programs about Israel. Susan Engel, executive producer of the 92nd St. Y Talks, tells the Haaretz Podcast that the famed Manhattan cultural center has undergone “a soul-searching since October 7 around our own Jewish identity and around who we are as a Jewish institution. And I think we've had to double down on our values and what it means to present different views, sometimes critical of Israel – because it's important to hear what someone else who thinks differently” has to say. Her audiences – in-person and the millions who watch her events online – she believes, greatly “appreciate” the fact that she can bring together people who “really disagree strongly” yet can “have a conversation and be civil.” At the same time, she said, the Y – founded as a center for Jewish life and culture in 1874 – experienced a boycott and staff walkouts after October 7 – maintains “red lines.” They will not platform those who have expressed “homophobic, transphobic, misogynistic” views or “if we feel that someone believes that Israel should be destroyed.” On the podcast, Engel also discusses the big-name cultural, political and Hollywood figures who have taken to the 92nd St. Y stage, including a recent appearance by Rob Reiner, who died tragically earlier this month, the art of creating an intimate space for interviews when millions are watching, and her experience as a judge at the Jerusalem Jewish Film Festival. Sara started middle school with a target on her back. Her father warned her that some of her classmates were the children of Israeli mobsters that he had exposed. As a journalist for Haaretz Daily, Ran Kislev's relentless investigations uncovered the world of organized crime, political corruption, and other forces lurking in Israel's shadow. This frequently put his family in jeopardy, leaving a young Sara to deal with the consequences. As an adult, Sara struggled to understand her father's motivations and contradictions: Why provoke dangerous criminals by publishing their names? Why defend an accused Nazi collaborator? And what about his philandering and secret children? Then, on the day of Ran's funeral, the man who had been his anonymous source introduced himself to Sara, setting her on an unexpected path.My Father's Shadow is Sara's memoir of what transpired before and after she stepped through a door to memory she had long avoided. Now a psychologist and mother herself, she ventures into the shadows of her and her father's past, revealing a complicated history of trauma, survival, and identity. She is the author of "My Father's Shadow: Uncovering the Stories Between the Lines." https://myfathersshadow.com/http://www.yourlotandparcel.org
What does it mean that Jesus Christ descended from a cursed bloodline, and how does His adoption as Joseph's son solve an impossible theological problem? Pastor Dorrell examines Matthew's genealogy to reveal that Jesus Christ uniquely satisfies both the royal and legal claims to David's throne, despite the curse on Jeconiah's descendants. Through the inclusion of Tamar, Rahab, Ruth, and Bathsheba—women of questionable reputation—the sermon argues that God's sovereignty orchestrates redemption through human failure and sin. If God can weave Christ's lineage through fourteen generations of imperfection and still produce the Messiah, then He can redeem your mistakes, forgive your failures, and graft you into His family through the blood of Christ.Eastland is a Place to BelongEastland Baptist Church is located in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Big Tobacco's playbook is back — just with better branding and candy flavors. Jessica Wynn clears the air about vaping here on Skeptical Sunday!Welcome to Skeptical Sunday, a special edition of The Jordan Harbinger Show where Jordan and a guest break down a topic that you may have never thought about, open things up, and debunk common misconceptions. This time around, we're joined by writer and researcher Jessica Wynn!Full show notes and resources can be found here: jordanharbinger.com/1260On This Week's Skeptical Sunday:Vapes don't produce harmless vapor. They emit aerosol, a "chemical soup" containing nicotine, heavy metals like lead and nickel, formaldehyde, and ultrafine particles that penetrate deep into lungs where filtration is impossible.JUUL revolutionized addiction by using nicotine salts instead of freebase nicotine — lowering the pH for smoother hits at higher concentrations, delivering a faster brain rush with less coughing, and packing one pod with the equivalent of an entire pack of cigarettes. Many vapes labeled "nicotine-free" actually contain nicotine when tested, and secondhand aerosol isn't safe either — it deposits residue on surfaces, harms pets, and exposes bystanders to the same toxic cocktail inhaled by the vaper. The same playbook Big Tobacco used for decades — targeting kids, using candy flavors, buying off scientists, and fighting regulation — is now deployed through sleeker devices and better branding.Quitting is possible, and the tools actually work. The parade goes on, now that the pilgrim, Dante, is in a good spot to see it.After the twenty-four lords in white come four animals with green fronds as crowns. They are like the Cherubim in both the prophecies of Ezekiel and in the Apocalypse of St. John (or the book of Revelation).Except not really. Or sort of. Well, the poet doesn't have time to explain. Go read the text yourself. And especially the one that doesn't quite agree with what I saw.Join me, Mark Scarbrough, as we find Dante's irony alive and well, even during the grand parade of divine revelation. Here are the segments for this episode of WALKING WITH DANTE:[01:20] My English translation of PURGATORIO, Canto XXIX, Lines 88 - 105. A rotating menagerie of Badlands Media hosts come together for another late night OnlyLands session, blending open conversation, community interaction, and real time reactions to the moment. Episode 36 moves fluidly between current events, behind-the-scenes commentary, and personal reflections, with the hosts unpacking headlines, online narratives, and the absurdities of the information cycle as they unfold. The discussion isn't scripted or segmented, instead following the natural rhythm of the panel as topics overlap, collide, and occasionally spiral into humor, frustration, or insight. With chat participation driving much of the direction, the episode captures the relaxed, unsanitized energy that defines OnlyLands...less about delivering conclusions and more about thinking out loud, comparing perspectives, and staying connected while the world keeps accelerating.

Key Takeaways: Buy Borrow Die: A strategy where people buy assets, borrow money using those assets as collateral, and then pass the assets to their heirs. Because of how taxes work, this can make their tax bill much smaller. Strategic Borrowing: Instead of selling assets and paying taxes on the gains, investors borrow against them. This helps them grow their wealth while keeping taxes low, and it also helps keep money flowing in the economy. Government Benefits: When people borrow more, it increases overall debt in the financial system, which is one way the government keeps money moving and funds different programs. Disciplined Planning: To use this strategy safely and legally, people need expert guidance and careful financial planning. This helps them avoid mistakes and get the most value from the strategy. Clear Understanding: Learning how taxes and the economy work helps people see that Buy Borrow Die isn't cheating. It's a legal and commonly used financial tool for managing wealth over a lifetime. While humanitarian organizations and media outlets often reduce Syrian refugees to statistics or brief anecdotes, the real story of displacement unfolds in the intimate spaces of family life. Through the interwoven narratives of five middle-aged sisters from Damascus, Lines of Flight, Assemblages of Home reveals how Syrian women navigate war, exile, and the profound transformation of their families and identities. Drawing on extensive interviews conducted between 2015 and 2017, this book follows an extended Sunni Muslim family as they flee their homes in Damascus's Eastern Ghouta suburbs and scatter across Lebanon, Jordan, Turkey, Egypt, and eventually Europe. As these women move through an increasingly hostile landscape of border controls, refugee camps, and human trafficking networks, they must reinvent themselves—from stable middle-class mothers to resourceful survivors, from guardians of tradition to architects of change. Their journeys challenge conventional assumptions about refugee experiences, revealing how displacement reconfigures family networks, religious practices, and gender roles. Leila Hudson's intimate portrait of Syrian displacement offers vital insights for researchers and practitioners working in humanitarian assistance, refugee resettlement, and forced migration. It provides essential reading for anyone seeking to understand how ordinary families navigate extraordinary circumstances, and how women in particular bear both the burdens and opportunities of displacement. Ashe in America and Ghost close out Season 1 of The Choice with a reflective recap that revisits the major themes, questions, and turning points explored throughout the series. This episode looks back at the personal, political, and philosophical crossroads examined across the season, highlighting how individual decisions, moral tradeoffs, and unseen pressures shape outcomes on both a human and societal level. Ashe and Ghost reflect on recurring patterns, lessons learned, and moments that challenged assumptions, while tying earlier conversations together into a clearer throughline. Rather than rehashing episodes one by one, the discussion focuses on synthesis—what Season 1 revealed about agency, accountability, power, and consequence. The recap also sets the stage for what lies ahead, framing Season 2 as a deeper continuation of the questions already asked, and the choices still unfolding.
The parade goes on! Our pilgrim, Dante, turns back from Virgil's amazement and finds more of the parade coming toward him . . . at least, he does so after he's reprimanded by the lady who stands across Lethe. In this passage, the poet's craft heightens to reveal gorgeous poetry that comes from the apocalyptic tradition but far exceeds its beauty with both the Easter eggs Dante puts in the text and the ways the poetry itself enhances the wonder of the parade at hand.Join me, Mark Scarbrough, as we work through our second passage on the parade of revelation in the Garden of Eden at the top of Mount Purgatory. Here are the segments for this episode of WALKING WITH DANTE:[01:19] My English translation of PURGATORIO, Canto XXIX, lines 58 - 87. If you'd like to read along or continue the conversation with me, please find the entry for this podcast episode on my website, markscarbrough.com.[04:09] The tradition of apocalyptic literature and Dante's use of it.[08:44] Biblical references in this part of the apocalyptic parade.[13:54] Contemporary cultural references in the parade.[16:01] Surprises: Dante's changes to Biblical imagery, his Easter eggs to his own text, and his idiosyncratic word choices.[20:07] Possible allegorical interpretations for the twenty-four lords (or elders) and the distance of ten paces between the lights.[25:20] The poetry of the parade: colorful brushwork and gorgeous (if incomplete) reflections in Lethe.[28:43] More on emergent revelation.[31:47] Rereading PURGATORIO, Canto XXIX, lines 58 - 87.

In this episode of the We Do This Too Outdoors Podcast, I sit down with my cousin Chris Perkins, better known as KNNESS, for a real, unfiltered conversation that blends hip-hop culture, family roots, and a shared love for the outdoors. KNNESS opens up about his journey as a rapper, the grind behind his music, and how staying true to himself has shaped both his sound and his mindset. We also dive deep into his passion for catfishing—breaking down why chasing big catfish gives him the same adrenaline and focus as being in the studio. From late nights making music to long hours on the riverbank, this episode highlights the balance between creativity, patience, and discipline. It's a conversation about staying grounded, honoring where you come from, and proving that you can thrive in multiple worlds while still being authentically you. Learn more about your ad choices.
