As followers of Jesus, we have not been called to be "culture warriors" that fight against the larger culture but to be witnesses to culture. Join senior Pastor Dr. Josh Laxton as he takes a look at the Broadway sensation "Hamilton" through the eyes of the Gospel and demonstrates how you can share your faith with others in a cultural context that is familiar to them.

Join us this Sunday as we conclude our series Pardon the Disruption. Our guest speaker Josh Laxton will be walking us through Acts chapter 10.
Acts 16 Restoring our evangelistic impulse, stepping into the power of God, and dealing with doubt are just a few of the things we discuss on this episode with Josh Laxton, Center Region teaching pastor. A podcast of Park Community Church in Chicago.
Will Mancini joins Ed Stetzer and guest host Josh Laxton to talk about the future of the church--especially as we emerge from the pandemic. They discuss Will's new book, Future Church: Seven Laws of Real Church Growth. At the heart of this is the question: What will you do with this ministry moment? Will is especially equipped to lead us in a moment like this
The intersection of politics and faith has been divisive in recent years. Bill Haslam says it doesn’t have to be—that faith can actually be a redemptive and unifying presence in the public square. Ed Stetzer and guest host Josh Laxton interview former two-term governor of Tennessee, Bill Haslam, to talk about his new book Faithful Presence: The Promise and the Peril of Faith in the Public Square. Gov. Haslam has been a mayor and governor, serving at local, state and federal levels of government.
How do we lead through a crisis? We can't always prevent a crisis, but we can be prepared for them. Archilochus, the Greek poet from the 7th century BC said,“We don't rise to the level of our expectations, we default to the level of our training.”Ed Stetzer and Josh Laxton have provided wise words to help us understand how we lead through crises.Links:Crisis Leadership from a Christian Perspective: When Crisis HitsCrisis Leadership from a Christian Perspective: Self-Care of a Leader During a CrisisChristian Leadership in Times of Crisis course***If you enjoy this podcast, can I ask a 45 second favor? Guest speaker Josh Laxton's sermon from the Contemporary service.
(00:00-09:21): Man whose wife was a victim in the El Paso shooting was shocked when hundreds of people showed up at her funeral. Brian and Ian touch on the importance of community and empathy during tragic times. (09:21-18:45): Stephen Colbert, in an interview with Anderson Cooper, eloquently describes his experience and outlook on grief. He experienced tragedy at a very young age, as Cooper has as well. Brian and Ian discuss the authenticity and amazing Christ-like peace behind Colbert’s theology of grief. (18:45-28:02): What did we preach? Brian and Ian discuss their sermons from Sunday. Brian talked on the book of John, this week was focused on how the love of God is lavished on us. Ian spoke on the “L” in B.L.E.S.S. which is LISTEN. He hits hard on how important it is to listen and understand things for what they are. (28:02-37:02): Church Buys School Supplies for Every Student at Their Local Elementary School. Brian and Ian discuss this amazing story of a church practicing what they preach. They also talk about how easy it is to make a substantial difference in a community. (37:02-47:28): After sex scandal, Billy Graham’s grandson is starting a church in Palm Beach Gardens. Brian and Ian touch on this topic and the idea of redemption. They think that because Tullian Tchividjian has been involved with multiple scandals, he needs to slow down getting back into ministry. (47:28-57:40): Musician Jordan Feliz joins the show to talk about his new single “Faith” and his upcoming show at Community Christian Church in September. He touches on his family and how he makes sure he controls and masters his career, rather than it controlling him. (57:40-1:08:09): “Leaving the Faith by Losing the Focus” writes Josh Laxton in Christianity Today. This is one of the latest takes on the apostasy of Christian leaders. Brian and Ian talk about this and how the church ought to be an open and safe place for questions and doubt. (1:08:09-1:15:04): Brian and Ian’s “Weird Stuff We Found on the Internet”: McDonald’s is serving a Filet-o-FIST! Wal-Mart typically doesn’t allow merchandise in the bathroom, but don’t wine about it. A Florida man has some dirt on his ex-girlfriend, while 1920’s gangsters are bootlegging animals in Detroit. Meanwhile, people are fighting over whether or not to be safe on airplanes.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
