We are in the middle of a 'creativity crisis' - with so many people are distracted, unable to focus and lacking in connection. So what to do about it? Here to help me unpick how we can find more flow, creativity, connection, peace and ease - is Chris Smith, an award-winning author, broadcaster and stand-up comedian. For many years we sat alongside each other in the Newsbeat studio on BBC Radio 1. We discuss: How to get into flow and tap into the 'intelligent unconscious' The relationship between unplugging and creativity Why we love losing ourself in what we are doing, and how modern life is killing that Recognising that the future is never as bad as we fear it will be when it arrives as 'the present' How to develop a different relationship with our thoughts How to cultivate the space for true creativity to arrive The value of having a sauna I am creating a course about Banishing Burnout and Finding Flow - which I will be sharing more about that over coming weeks and months. Together we can create a new way of being - one that is less distracted and combative, and has more flow and peace. Jenny Pearson's first book The Super Miraculous Journey of Freddie Yates was published to great acclaim and quickly became a favourite with primary teachers for its closely observed, hilarious but compassionate portrayal of children. Jenny is a primary teacher herself and it's clear that she loves both parts of her working life and that they feed each other.A second book The Incredible Record Smashers was published in 2021 and is equally funny, with some genuine laugh out loud moments. I rarely laugh aloud when I am reading alone, but this book triggered my funny bone.To find out why, listen to Jenny talking about The Incredible Record Smashers in this episode.About The Incredible Record SmashersA record-smashing, feel-good adventure packed with heart, humour and Guinness World Records from Costa Award-shortlisted JENNY PEARSON, and Kid Normal illustrator Erica Salcedo Lucy is a fixer of broken things. But there's one thing she can't fix and that's her unhappy mum. Until she comes up with an INCREDIBLE plan.Along with her best friend, Sandesh, Lucy is going to SMASH a world record. Because she's convinced that starry Paul Castellini - Record Smashers TV host and singing legend - is the answer to her mum's problems. But breaking a world RECORD when watermelons, kumquats, two baddies and a 30 cm shatter-resistant school ruler are involved isn't quite as easy as Lucy thought. Can she learn that sometimes happiness doesn't come with a plan?"

In the book series, Murph Cooper rocks up to his new school several weeks into the beginning of term and can't help but feel a bit out of his depth. And it's not because he's worried about where to sit, and making friends, and fitting in, or not knowing where the loos are. It's because his mum has enrolled him at a school for superheroes by mistake. And unlike his fellow students, who can all control the weather or fly or conjure tiny horses from thin air, Murph has no special abilities whatsoever. But just because you don't have superpowers, it doesn't mean you can't save the day. Let's hope Murph realises that, and quick - because not far away is a great big bad guy who is half man and half wasp, and his mind is abuzz with evil plans... I’ve been around a lot of babies and children over the last 30 years. And when it comes to describing what I’ve seen in their individual development, the word “fascinating” comes to my mind. Why fascinating? Because each and every one was individually unique in the way they were putting together their “own picture of the world.” Yet there are countless books and websites that say, “this is what a 3-year-old does” or some other ideas about what a child “should” be doing by a certain age. And in my experience, I’ve seen how that kind of information can undermine a mom and make her feel really insecure, especially if she compares her child to her friends’ other “normal” children. Do you know someone who feels like that? Maybe you? Not to worry because my podcast this week should help. This week, I talk about why understanding your child’s individual differences is one of the most critical factors among many that affect child rearing and development. I’ll also share with you one of the many tools I know that can really help parents understand their child and help themselves to not feel distraught over their child’s development. The tool is understanding Dimensions of Temperament and the 9 Temperament Traits. (here is a list of the temperament traits) (and in case you missed it, I also recap my podcast from last week) Judy PS: I’d love to hear from you. Comment below and let me know your thoughts and ideas about temperament and the podcast too.
