Christians are confronting a subtle but dangerous spiritual threat disguised as ease. Convenience can bless us when it serves God's purpose, yet it quietly harms us when it replaces devotion, obedience, and community. If we find ourselves at this point, we can remember how passion once burned in us and examine what caused that fire to fade. Apathy often hides behind the language of efficiency, speed, and personal comfort. God is challenging us choose Christ's mission over convenience so that we can step into deeper maturity and lasting impact.   To support the ministry financially, text "CDMPodcast" to 74483 or visit www.worldchangers.org

There are so many matters to be opinionated about. "Don't you care?" says everyone.  How can we live well in a world where we have a lot that concerns us and a small capacity to influence any of it? In this episode of Breaking Bread, Amber Miller and Kathy Knochel speak to this constant pressure of feeling judged for not caring enough. They go on to outline a healthy life that lives on the spectrum between apathy and advocacy. Show notes:  We are finite humans with limited time, resources, and bandwidth. When there is so much we care about, how do we determine the level we involve ourselves?   1st. Do what only you can do. Be the mom, dad, brother, sister, or person that no one else can be.  2nd. Consider your capacity. Be true to your priorities.  3rd. Find your place. Prayerfully determine where on the spectrum between apathy and advocacy you belong and what it looks like.  4th. Do it for God. Measure your effectiveness by faithfulness, not by outcomes.

Apathy is one of the quieter struggles of the Christian life, less dramatic than crisis and therefore easier to ignore, but just as damaging to our relationship with God and our experience of the life He intends for us. Ephesians 5:13-14 names it with surprising directness: apathy is a form of spiritual sleep. And the call that follows is equally direct: "wake up, sleeper, rise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you." This is not a shaming command. It is a gentle invitation back into the light of Christ, where recovery becomes possible. When light enters a dark room, it reveals what was invisible before. In the same way, Christ's light illuminates the spiritual weariness, the draining habits, and the weighted thinking patterns that have quietly accumulated. It does not expose them to condemn; it exposes them so that renewal can begin. The path back does not require a dramatic overhaul. It begins with small steps: a little more rest, time outside, one verse of Scripture, a simple prayer. God meets us exactly where we are and gently guides us forward from there. Over time, as His light reaches further into every part of our lives, energy and motivation return, purpose becomes clearer, and what felt like spiritual numbness begins to give way to something alive again. Today's Bible Verse "Wake up, sleeper, rise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you."— Ephesians 5:14, NIV Ponder Today Christ's light reveals what the darkness concealed in order to renew. When we allow His light into our weariness and numbness, we begin to see what has been draining us, and that visibility is the first step toward healing. Burnout and apathy are signals that something needs care, not just discipline. God designed body, mind, and spirit to be connected, and all of them need rest and care. Addressing physical and mental health is part of answering the call to wake up. Small steps are enough to begin. God meets us exactly where we are and works with whatever we bring. Healing does not require a grand overhaul to begin. One verse of Scripture a day, a few minutes outside, a brief and honest prayer; start small, start somewhere. Christ's light, let in gradually, restores what apathy quietly stole. Energy, motivation, clarity of thought, and sense of purpose return as His light reaches further into our lives. Waking up is not a single moment; it is a direction we begin moving toward. A Prayer for You Today Dear God, You know how much I have struggled with apathy lately. I feel tired from dealing with all the challenges of this fallen world, overwhelmed by the constant noise, and burned out from the stress. I just do not care anymore about what You want me to care about. Please forgive me for settling for apathy and neglecting the full life You want me to live. I need Your help to answer the call to wake up and step into Your light. Shine Your light into every part of me — my spirit, mind, and body. Help me care for my wellbeing so I can heal and grow stronger. Restore my passion for knowing You and walking closely with You each day. As Your light fills my life again, renew my energy and motivation and guide me forward with hope. Thank You. Amen. Want More?

Habits and Hustle

Is a lack of motivation a personality flaw, or a signal from your brain that something needs attention? We tend to think brain decline begins with memory loss, but changes in motivation, behavior, attention, and decision-making can show up much earlier. Apathy can look like laziness. Poor sleep can feel like memory loss. Doom scrolling gets blamed on dopamine, even though the science does not support many of the claims people repeat online. And the habits we rely on for brain health are often based more on trends than evidence. This matters because your brain is constantly deciding whether a reward is worth the effort. When that calculation becomes harder, doing even simple things can feel overwhelming. Understanding how motivation works can help you reduce friction, take action before you feel ready, build routines that support your brain, and pay closer attention to changes in yourself or someone you love. Purpose matters. Curiosity matters. Relationships matter. And movement may be one of the most effective tools we have for protecting cognitive health. Dr. Masud Husain is one of the world's leading neurologists studying memory, motivation, attention, and cognitive decline. He is a professor of neurology at Oxford University, co-leads Dementia Research at Oxford University, and serves as editor-in-chief of Brain, one of the most respected journals in neurology. He is also the author of Our Brains, Ourselves, which explores how the brain shapes our behavior, identity, relationships, and sense of self. What's Discussed: (06:01) Why losing motivation can appear before memory problems and signal early cognitive decline. (08:07) How apathy differs from depression, even when the behavior looks almost identical. (12:14) What two tiny strokes revealed about the brain circuit responsible for motivation. (20:55) How purpose, curiosity, and strong relationships help protect the aging brain. (22:23) Why unmotivated people may use more brain energy deciding whether something is worth the effort. (24:54) What dopamine actually does and why it is not the brain's pleasure chemical. (26:31) Why the idea that social media gives you constant dopamine hits is not supported by evidence. (34:50) Whether Alzheimer's can be reversed and what current treatments can realistically accomplish. (45:17) How breaking tasks into smaller steps, starting before you feel ready, and building routines can create motivation. (57:12) Whether relying on AI is making our brains lazier and changing how we think. (01:01:36) How loneliness and isolation affect cognitive performance and long-term brain health. (01:07:22) How poor sleep, anxiety, and low mood can create memory problems that feel like dementia.   Thank You to Our Sponsors! Love to hear from you; “Send us a Text Message”Something feels off right now, and it's not just policy or elections. When the culture starts calling evil good and good evil, it's easy to spiral into doom-scrolling, cynicism, and the quiet lie that nothing we do matters. I read a viral post that captures that dread, then I push back on the trap underneath it: outrage that never turns into action becomes apathy, and apathy is how families, churches, and entire communities slowly collapse. Visit Claymore Milites Christi to join the movement! From there, I lay out a simple framework for Christian renewal that's meant to be lived, not argued about online. It starts with the human heart choosing what's true and good, then restores marriage and family as the backbone of civilization, and stays anchored in Christ and the Church. We also talk about corruption and institutional decay, using a clip about government fraud to show how real people get hurt when systems are captured, and why reform has to be paired with moral formation. The anchor story is Pier Giorgio Frassati, a young Catholic who climbed mountains, loved his friends, served the poor with his own hands, and refused to separate prayer from public life. I contrast his path with Robespierre as a warning: “justice” detached from God can turn into terror. The goal here is Christian social activism and Catholic political engagement rooted in charity, truth, courage, and joy, so we fight for the innocent without becoming what we hate. If this challenges you, share it with someone who feels stuck, then subscribe and leave a review so more people can find the show. In this lecture, Ian reflects on a visit to Yellowstone and the geyser Old Faithful as an image of how people can become strangely unimpressed by what is remarkable. He uses the response of a child who called it “medium” to introduce the theme of spiritual apathy. He explains that the message is based on Revelation 3:14–22 and is addressed to the church in Laodicea. The church appears comfortable, wealthy, and secure, but Jesus says they are actually poor, blind, naked, and lukewarm. Ian contrasts their self-assessment with Jesus' evaluation, which focuses on the condition of their affection for him.The lecture develops three main causes of apathy. First is the myopia of success, where comfort, abundance, and busyness cause people to lose sight of their dependence on God. Second is derailment by disruption, where interruptions to spiritual habits such as prayer and Bible reading make it harder to return to them. Third is undervaluing what is most important, which leads people to take God for granted and give him leftovers rather than their best.Ian says Jesus' words are both corrective and loving. The call is to be zealous and repent, not to remain indifferent. He emphasizes that Jesus still stands at the door and knocks, inviting renewed fellowship and a shared meal. The lecture ends with an appeal to respond to that invitation and seek prayer.

America hasn't silenced religion—it's replaced Christianity with a new god called secular humanism. Neutrality? It's a myth. Every company, every classroom, every government is preaching a gospel—just not always the Gospel of Jesus Christ. The cost? Criticism. Accusation. Exile from the “acceptable” conversation. But remember this, men—Jesus is still Lord. The Word is still truth. The light isn't meant for the sanctuary—it's meant for the world. The battle lines are drawn. What will you do when you're asked to check your faith at the door? Will you stay silent, or will you stand?"In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven." –Matthew 5:16Episode Highlights12:07 - Now that we've established why I don't believe a truly neutral public square exists, I want to talk about the worldview that has increasingly filled the space once occupied by Christianity in a lot of our cultural institutions. And again, that worldview is secular humanism.20:23 - If somebody says my position comes from biblical truth, they're frequently accused of bringing religion into the discussion. But if somebody else says my position comes from personal autonomy or human flourishing or social progress or evolving moral consensus, those ideas are often treated as though they're simply objective and universal. That is an example of inconsistency, because those are moral frameworks too.41:00 - I believe that one of the greatest dangers facing the American church today is not persecution. Instead, it's passivity. Apathy. Far too many believers have convinced themselves that if they simply stay quiet, work hard, attend church on Sunday, and avoid controversy, that everything is going to somehow work itself out. I don't believe history supports that conclusion. Not by a mile.Connect with Paul M. NeubergerWebsite

What does it mean for the gospel to be functionally central — not just theologically true in the abstract, but actually animating the way a pastor preaches, thinks, and lives? Mike Bullmore, author of The Heart of Preaching: The Functional Centrality of the Gospel in the Life and Work of the Preacher, joins Brian From to answer that question. A veteran pastor who planted Crossway Community Church 28 years ago and now preaches at Park Community Church in Chicago's Lincoln Park neighborhood, Mike makes a simple but convicting diagnosis: the moment a preacher reserves gospel proclamation only for evangelistic sermons and then shifts to discipleship content for believers, he's already gone off course. The gospel isn't just the entry point — it's the flywheel that keeps everything else moving. He also speaks directly to the pastor who has quietly grown apathetic, lost the awe, and is grinding through sermons on fumes — with a word from Psalm 103 about God's compassion and a surprisingly practical prescription involving the Gospel of Mark and the book of Leviticus. Old Testament Sermons / Speaker:Berry Kercheville Apathy Brings Judgment Jeremiah 16 Introduction: Have you ever noticed how difficult it is for us to accept a coming major change in our wellbeing? After Enoch and Noah had warned for 1000 years of the coming judgment, Jesus said, “For as in those days before the Flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day when Noah entered the ark…” And so it was with Nineveh, Jerusalem, Babylon, Persia, and Rome. The same was true in 1929 and the Great Depression and the murder of six million Jews in Nazi Germany. When we are comfortably living in peace and prosperity  with a mighty military, it seems unimaginable. Paul urged Christians in 1 Corinthians 7, to not marry because,“the fashion of this world is passing away. What we tend not to consider, is that “world” passing away did not happen by an invasion, it happened internally by a corrupt empire.  We can't imagine it in America, but that doesn't mean it isn't happening or won't happen, whether by trials on an individual, national corruption, the temporal judgment of a nation, or the final judgment, apathy will leave us unprepared.  This is the Lord's message in Jeremiah 16. But the apathy and disbelief of the people will lead to their utter destruction.  Joy and Gladness Will Soon End (1-9) Jeremiah was given three restrictions in order to get the attention of the people. Do not marry and have children—all the fathers, mothers, and children are going to die of deadly diseases, sword, and famine. They will not even be buried, and animals will eat their dead bodies. “Do not enter the house of mourning, or go to lament or grieve for them.” To understand this better, consider the purpose of going to a funeral. We are hoping to give those who grieve some peace and love. But in this case that would be a lie. Things are only going to get worse. All peace and love has been taken away by the Lord.  “You shall not go to the house of feasting to sit with them, to eat and drink.” No, even though the invasion had not yet happened, Jeremiah's refusal to participate in a simple dinner party indicates the coming doom. As the NIV translates, God will “bring an end to the sounds of joy and gladness, the voice of the bridegroom and the voice of the bride.” Just imagine, no one will even dream of marriage or dinners or rejoicing together! Everyone's joy will be gone. ESV, “I will silence in this place.” What is the point? God wants Jeremiah to show the people the reality of what is coming. God used Jeremiah, Ezekiel, and Daniel, to demonstrate their coming destruction through various signs but to no avail. It illustrates the difficulty of humans to accept a world that is about to turn upside down.  “What Is Our Iniquity?” 10-13 The people obviously see the meaning of Jeremiah's refusal to participate in the normal activities of a culture. They get that Jeremiah is predicting their doom. So they ask, “What is our iniquity?”  How could they even ask that question! It illustrates how easily our minds become calloused when we begin compromising God's commands. We convince ourselves that what we are doing is not that bad.  There are three points God we need to consider:  Their extreme callousness began in previous generations, two to three hundred years previous! If nothing else will wake us up to the way we are living our present lives, this should. A Christian's mediocrity and compromises today will produce a downward spiral of wickedness and godlessness long after we are gone. In other words, this isn't just about you!  Notice the phrase, “you have done worse than your fathers.” As we see throughout scripture, fathers are the primary key to the spiritual future of their children. A spiritual upbringing cannot be left solely in the hands of mom. This does not simply mean that fathers should teach their children the scriptures!! The teaching of a father is near worthless without the example of a father who is passionate about his own service to God.  As Malachi 4:6 “The hearts of the fathers must turn to the children, and the hearts of the children to their fathers.” A rigid rule-making, authoritarian father will simply drive his children away.  Then notice, “…everyone of you follows his stubborn, evil will, refusing to listen to me.” When I read this I was immediately reminded of Christians who left the Lord and the local church. In many cases, the reason was because they either did not like what a fellow member said or did or a well-meaning Christian saw that they were slipping and  attempted to help. So they got mad and left. The surprise was their attitude even years later: STUBBORN! “I'll never go back!” We often forget that serving God is not simply prohibitions against sins. Peter insists that we must grow in faith, virtue, knowledge, godliness, perseverance, self-control, brotherly love, and love for all people. If we do not, we are denied entrance into the everlasting kingdom (2 Peter 1:10-11). “…if you practice these qualities you will never fall. For in this way there will be richly provided for you an entrance into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.” Verse 9 states that if we do not grow in these things we are blind and forgotten that we were cleansed from our sins.  God's Purpose in Judgment, Now and at the End 14-15 Inserted in the midst of God's promised judgment, is his announcement of a new exodus. Two things are impressive: God just announced to these people what they are going to miss. It is the same way the Hebrews' writer approached the Christians who were slipping away from the Lord. The motivation of hell is one thing, but the more powerful motivation should be what we will miss. Luke 13:28 “In that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth, when you see Abraham and Isaac and Jacob and all the prophets in the kingdom of God but you yourselves cast out.”  There is a major difference in how we serve God when we are just thinking about escaping hell and serving God because we love him and want to please him and desire to be with him. When we are just trying to escape hell, the tendency is to ask questions about how much God really expects from me. “You don't really think I would be lost just because…”—fill in the blank. That isn't loving God. Notice that this new exodus will cause the people to forget the first exodus. This is obviously our exodus from the bondage of Satan. We do not talk about the God who brought us out of Egypt, we glorify God and always remember how he brought us out of the captivity of the devil.  16-18 But in spite of God's promise of a new exodus, these people have made their decision and will be judged. Fishers and hunters will be sent to find the wicked and bring judgment on them. God says, “They have polluted my land, … and filled my inheritance with their abominations.” Wherever we are in the world, we are living in God's land. The realm of the Kingdom is the world, and we must not fill it with abominations. (Parable of the Tares). “But in keeping with his promise we are looking forward to a new heaven and a new earth, where righteousness dwells.” 2 Peter 3:13  19-21 Israel has rejected God, but the nations will see the foolishness of their fathers' idols and will confess their  desire to serve God: “my strength and my stronghold, my refuge…”  It is a beautiful picture to see even the nations coming to the Lord and confessing the wickedness of their father's gods. “Such are not gods!”  The greatest turning point in a person's life is learning that the “gods” of our fleshly desires are not gods.  The Lord concludes that when the nations come to him, he will have shown the world his power and might, and that his name is Yahweh (his covenantal name)  Berry Kercheville The post Apathy Brings Judgment appeared first on Woodland Hills Church of Christ.

Since you excel in everything . . . see that you also excel in this grace of giving. — 2 Corinthians 8:7 When we installed two new “nucs” of bees in our hive boxes last spring, both seemed ready to become strong colonies. After a few weeks, one hive seemed to be doing better than the other, but we were not worried. Both were still growing and improving.During summer—when bees build up and increase their honey stores—we kept adding boxes to the stronger hive. By comparison, the weaker hive seemed to languish. A more careful inspection toward the end of summer revealed that the queen of the weaker hive was gone! A hive cannot survive without its queen, since she is the only bee that lays eggs to produce offspring. So our neglect in watching over that hive led to its death. The missionary pastor Paul noticed strengths and weaknesses in the churches he served. Were the Christ-followers in Corinth somewhat stung by the comparison Paul made in today's passage? They excelled in many things, but Paul had to point out that they could be more gracious in giving. Failing to give generously for the needs of brothers and sisters in Christ was a serious flaw that could lead to their decline.Christians today do well to be concerned about the decline and disbanding of churches. Apathy and stinginess can be destructive. The good news is that when God's people are stirred to “excel in the grace of giving,” the community of believers can thrive. Lord Jesus, you became poor for our sake so that we might become rich in your grace. Live in and through us so that we may give graciously, as you have taught us. Amen.

From Britain and France to major U.S. cities, the pattern is clear: Low turnout and complacency empower organized, radical movements. Freeman closes with a call to action on patriotism, vigilance, and financial preparedness for families and investors.

Dr. Justin Dancer continues through the book at Acts, focusing on Acts 11:19-29. Acts 12 is a dramatic account of persecution, miraculous escape, and the unstoppable advance of God's mission. Herod Agrippa had every earthly advantage, yet none of it was enough to hinder what God was doing. Peter was freed from prison through miraculous intervention while the church prayed fervently on his behalf. Three foundational truths emerge from this chapter: God's power cannot be denied, God's people cannot be defeated, and God's plan cannot be doomed. Whether a believer experiences deliverance like Peter or goes home to be with the Lord like James, both outcomes are victories in Christ. The church is called to pray with wholehearted, fervent, stretched-out prayer rather than casual or passing requests. Apathy is one of the greatest threats facing believers today, and the antidote is staying hungry for God, His Word, and His presence. These truths are not just for the early church. They are for every follower of Christ today.

This week’s question is: What is the difference between procedures and systems? Listen in to hear their response! Meet Jamie Meade: With a career spanning over 35 years in education, Jamie Meade is dedicated to positive change and impact in our nation's education systems, working to advance academic achievement, growth, and well-being for our nation's youth. Jamie began her career as a high school English teacher in the rural Appalachian region of Ohio, and her passion led her to leadership roles in the school and district-level. Jamie has also served in regional school improvement services with the Ohio Department of Education and as Vice President at Battelle for Kids. For more than a decade, Jamie has done extensive research in the science of Hope—and why it matters for students, staff, education leaders, and communities. The Science of Hope: Jamie has made herself a student of hope, and has learned a great deal how we can focus on hope as a tool for leading, teaching, and learning. In this interview, Jamie explains that hope is different from wishful thinking, and walks us through the science of the brain— and where hope actually lives in our minds. Unlike “wishing” (which is passive), real hope is an active, strategic cognitive process. Neuroscience shows that hope is a skill that can be practiced. The more we choose hopeful thoughts, the more we physically rewire our brains to build capacity for resilience. The GPA of Hope: Jamie also introduces C.R. Snyder's Hope Theory framework: Goals: A vision for a future that is better than today. Pathways: The ability to identify multiple routes to reach those goals and navigate obstacles. Agency: The belief in one’s own ability and the mental energy to pursue those pathways. Building Hope Among Students: Students are often stuck in the downward spiral of losing hope, which often starts with anger , moves to despair, and ends in apathy. As Jamie says, “Don't misdiagnose hopelessness as laziness. Apathy is the final stage of a depleted spirit.” Teachers and staff are key factors in increasing student hope. Look for staff who bring energy, share their power, and get students excited about the future. Hope is a gift that can be shared. A student who has lost hope can borrow it from a teacher, but only if that teacher has it to spare. This applies to leaders and their staff as well. Send us Fan MailComfort isn't always a blessing. Sometimes it's the quiet condition that puts our spiritual life to sleep while we're busy feeling “fine.” We dig into a danger that rarely announces itself: spiritual apathy that grows through ease, distraction, and just enough routine to keep us going through the motions without real connection to God.We walk through the Book of Mormon pattern of the pride cycle and why prosperity can create the illusion that we no longer need the Lord. From Nephi's warning about being “pacified and lulled” into carnal security to David's choice to stay home when kings go to battle, we look at how small decisions in comfortable moments can weaken vigilance. We also sit with Christ's sharp words to the lukewarm and talk honestly about what fence-sitting looks like in real life: prayers that turn into checklists, scripture study that becomes skimming, promptings we keep delaying, and service we start treating as optional. Then we get practical. If you can feel yourself drifting, there are ways back that actually work: purposeful fasting, deep study, acting immediately on spiritual promptings, remembering covenants, serving someone else, and praying for spiritual hunger when you don't feel it. Apathy is everywhere, and it often gets dressed up as wisdom, balance, or being “nonchalant.” But in this episode of The Impossible Life Podcast, Nick Surface and Garrett Unclebach expose apathy for what it really is: a dangerous mindset that keeps Christian men from living with faith, urgency, and purpose. Garrett defines apathy as sitting by and hoping things get better. It is the opposite of being all in, and it shows up in phrases like “it doesn't matter,” “someone else will do it,” “it's not a big deal,” or “I'll do it tomorrow.”This conversation challenges men to stop confusing rest with apathy. God designed rest, but apathy is something different. It is a spiritual and mental disease that slowly chokes out purpose, responsibility, and faithfulness. Nick and Garrett root the episode in Galatians 6:9, reminding men not to grow weary in doing good because there is a harvest if we do not give up. The point is not that men are responsible for everything. God is sovereign. But men are responsible for what God has placed in their hands.Garrett gives three tools to fight apathy: vision casting, purpose compression, and truth. Vision casting helps men see what could be instead of accepting a small life. Purpose compression brings the meaning of your entire life into the moment where you are tempted to quit. Truth, especially the truth of Scripture, cuts through the lies that say your life, effort, calling, or today do not matter. This episode is a call for Christian men to reject passivity, abide in God's Word, and live with the conviction that today matters.Get With NuWave Home Lenders By Clicking HereGet a Free 7 Day Trial On The Tailored Training App By Clicking HereJoin a group of likeminded Impossible Life listeners in our FREE Skool community by clicking here.Get the Purpose Playbook by clicking hereGet the FREE Basic Discipline Training 30 Day Program by clicking hereJoin us in Mindset Mastery by clicking hereLevel up your nutrition with IDLife by clicking hereGET IN TOUCHSocial Media - @theimpossiblelifeEmail - info@theimpossible.life

This week on the show, we are traveling back to the late 1930s to unlock the archives.  First, we're tackling a blunt operational reality from August of 1937 that hits just as close to home today: a Master speaking plainly about lodge apathy, and why the membership is just as much to blame as the leadership when a lodge loses its spark. Then, we're shifting gears to look at a massive historical transformation from March 1938. We'll trace the rapid progress of education in England, the impact of the printing press, and how a loosely organized group of illiterate operative stone-carvers evolved into a Speculative system designed to build the inner temples of our minds. It's a journey from practical stone-quarrying to moral philosophy—all about money, myth, and the power of discernment. Stay tuned!
