Send a textOvercoming the Structures of Erasure and the Semantics of Genocidal Management with Aseel AlBajeh"How do we talk about a reality that is being systematically erased in real-time?"On this episode of Understanding Israel Palestine: Beyond the Walls, we examine the epistemology of erasure and how to transcend it through factual reframing. We explore the reality that a genocide is not just committed with bombs, but maintained with words.Host Jeremy Rothe-Kushel is joined by Aseel AlBajeh, the Advocacy Officer at the Palestine Institute for Public Diplomacy (PIPD). A legal researcher turned advocacy strategist, Aseel joins us to elucidate the "Communicating Palestine" guide—a vital new strategic manual designed to help advocates move beyond defensive fact-checking and into offensive narrative power. We dive into the guide's core pillars—"Reframing Narratives" and "Engaging Palestinian Voices"—to understand how to shift the conversation away from the "security" traps set by the occupier and back toward the root causes of history, colonization, and rights.Together, we use the guide to decode the deceptive language of "Peace Plans" and "Day After Scenarios" that currently mask permanent military encampment and starvation logistics in Gaza. We analyze the "Rogue Actor" myth of settler violence in the West Bank to reveal the unitary reality of state annexation.Crucially, we confront the historical architecture of "Sacred Terrorism." Drawing on the definitive work of Livia Rokach, Thomas Suarez, and Naeim Giladi, we trace how the foundations of the Israeli state were built by self-confessed terrorists like David Ben-Gurion and Menachem Begin—figures who utilized political violence not as a desperate last resort, but as a calculated tool of statecraft. We examine how this history has been inverted, trapping Western diplomacy in a "double bind" where the victims are labeled terrorists to justify their erasure, while the state architects of terror are shielded by the very "Peace Process" they designed to fail. Finally, we address the ultimate weapon of the status quo: Apathy. We discuss how the claim that the situation is "too complex" is often a deliberate tactic to induce paralysis. Aseel shares how the Communicating Palestine guide provides the epistemological confidence and ethical clarity needed to cut through this weaponized complexity, empowering listeners to move from feeling overwhelmed to speaking truth with power. This episode serves as a primer for the upcoming Voices From the Holy Land online film salon and workshop on Sunday, February 15th.Links & ResourcesThe Guest & The Tools:The Strategic Guide: Communicating PalestineA comprehensive resource for reframing the conversation on Palestine, moving away from exceptionalism and towards universal rights and historical context. The Organization: Palestine Institute for Public Diplomacy (PIPD)The Event: Voices From the Holy Land: "Say What??" The American Journal of Managed Care® (AJMC) kicks off its 2026 author podcast series with Nate C. Apathy, PhD, guest editor of AJMC's 15th Health Information Technology (IT) special issue. He is an assistant professor of health policy and management at the University of Maryland School of Public Health and an affiliated research scientist at the Regenstrief Institute in Indianapolis, Indiana. To set the stage for this milestone issue, Apathy reflects on the most significant health IT advancements of the past 15 years before zeroing in on developments from 2025. He then explores the issue's central themes, including artificial intelligence (AI) and telehealth. As highlighted in this year's Health IT issue, Apathy explains that AI has the potential to reduce administrative and clinical burdens and has been rapidly adopted by clinicians. At the same time, AI presents challenges, including maintaining clinical vigilance and managing costs. He also underscores the benefits of telehealth, particularly when tailored to specific clinical contexts. Despite the pace of technological innovation, Apathy emphasizes that success in health IT ultimately depends on building trust and strong relationships, as well as closely aligning solutions with user needs. Looking ahead, he hopes health IT tools will become more intuitive, seamlessly supporting equity, access, and high-quality care while enabling greater personalization.

In the early hours of March 13, 1964, twenty-eight-year-old Kitty Genovese returned home from work and parked her car in a lot near her Queens apartment, completely unaware that someone was following her. As she approached the door to her apartment building, Kitty's stalker ran up behind her and stabbed her in the back twice before being scared off by a neighbor who yelled from his window. Wounded, Kitty managed to get to the back of the building, but her attacker soon returned and brutally assaulted her. By the time an ambulance arrived an hour later, it was too late; Kitty Genovese died before she reached the hospital.Kitty's murder and the arrest of her killer, Winston Moseley, were quickly overshadowed by what were believed to be the facts of the attack, primarily the widely held belief that at least thirty-eight neighbors had seen the assault or heard Kitty's cries for help and did nothing. Despite there having been no evidence to support that belief, the narrative quickly became about urban apathy, with the death of a Queens bartender merely a footnote. The murder of Kitty Genovese is one of the most notorious violent crimes in modern American history—not because of the details or circumstances of the crime, but because of the legend and mythology that has built up around it.ReferencesCook, Kevin. 2014. This is #4 in our revisited series as we talk about the circumstances regarding “Riggs” episode as he speaks extremely candidly and open as we tackle the difficult subject of suicide. This is an epidemic in the first responder community and conversations like these can never cease. You are enough and people are in your life for a reason…..   This show will never shy away from having the difficult conversations. Thriving mental and physical health is paramount and crucial to survival and sadly, if not addressed, it could lead to a life ending. First responders are three times more likely to die by suicide than the from the job that they do. These numbers don't include the suicide attempts or suicidal ideation of first responders that are suffering and struggling in silence. There are a lot of descriptors that officers apply to themselves such as Fearful, Shame, Unworthy, Useless, Despair and Apathy to Life to name a few. These are all symptoms of depression, which is the ultimate liar. It will tell you that you are a failure when you have actually succeeded. It will make you feel like a burden to others. It will make you feel that others will be better off without you in life. It will tell you that you are alone. Reality: People do count on you. Others do love and respect you. These people will no longer have you there to help them, make them laugh, call you when they are struggling, and no longer to tell you they love you. You are worth so much to so many. Today's episode will pull back the curtain on a first responder that was enveloped by the darkness and lost all hope and wished to leave this world and the people that call him a husband, a father, a sibling, a colleague, and a friend. This is someone who went to the edge of the cliff and had one foot off and then was rescued by a voice to pull him back into this world and remind him that it was not his time and he had much more to give this world. This guest could be your husband, wife, child, friend, coworker, partner on a call or your boss. The darkness is real and can come for us all at any time in our life and sadly there are many who do not hear that voice that calls them from that cliff.   If are struggling, there is help!: Suicide Awareness (smore.com) Call 988 suicide hotline COPLINE: 1-800-COPLINE #suicideawareness #suicideprevention #mentalhealthmatters #reachout #mentalhealth #trauma

I'm a big believer that we can receive good advice from anyone, regardless of their age. Emma Shandy Anway is a West Coast-based Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist who specialises in relational and sex therapy. Although in her mid thirties, she has extensive experience working with couples aged 50+ and, during this episode, we discussed her work specifically with those aged 70+. Having chatted several weeks ago with Dr. Susan Campbell, herself in her 80s, about her sex life, I was curious on how someone fifty years her junior approaches the topic with her older clients because I have found that lived experience counts for a huge amount and sometimes those who have no concept of what it means to be older fall into familiar tropes and stereotypes that have no bearing on reality.I can't say that about Emma whose approach with her older patients clearly demonstrates an openness and eagerness to help them embrace their sexual selves, whether that means exploring open relationships, kink or simply learning how to be a better lover to each other. As Emma says, age, illness and changing bodies do not have to mean the end of a vibrant sex life; the biggest shifts are in mindset, communication and willingness to experiment. What I know is that it is never too late to learn, explore or rewrite your sexual story, as long as you genuinely want to and are prepared to be curious, honest and kind with yourself and your partner. You can find Emma here:https://www.esacounseling.com/abouthttps://www.instagram.com/pennyboardpsychHere's a Yes/No/Maybe checklist I consider to be particularly comprehensive:You can find the episode with Dr. Susan Campbell here:Chapters00:00 Introduction to Sexuality in Later Life01:44 Understanding the Motivations for Seeking Therapy06:53 Redefining Good Sex: From Okay to Magnificent12:06 Navigating Disappointment and Apathy in Relationships16:19 Body Confidence and Aging: Embracing Change23:09 Exploring Alternative Relationships and Sexuality27:47 Communication Tools for Sexual ExplorationUnlock even more pleasure, clarity, and confidence in your intimate life by becoming a paid subscriber. You'll gain full access to every weekly blog, the complete archive of 150+ expert-led podcasts, the private chat room for candid Q&A, and my 32‑page guide Sex Toys and Supplements for Thriving in Later Life.If you're ready to deepen your knowledge, explore new possibilities, and feel fully supported on your journey, upgrade today only £6.99/month or £49.99/year.I rely on your financial support to help produce each weekly episode of the podcast and blog post. In 2026, we want to be a church that gets more engaged with prayer. But like anything, we won't just start praying at length because we resolved to do so. We need training. And that begins with an honest assessment of what our challenges are to a prayer-filled life. Pastor Ryan begins our year in earnest with a series reflecting on What Makes Prayer So Difficult. The starting place? Apathy. It's easy to write prayer off when we're not engaged with it, but beautifully, God has offered His people the dignity of participation. We get to partner with the God of the universe, growing in relationship and bringing the Kingdom of Heaven to bear on the earth through our prayers. It all begins with a single step towards God in prayer. Will you take a step today? What will it be?

Welcome to The Daily, where we study the Bible verse by verse, chapter by chapter, every day. And Happy New Year—today is January 1, 2026! As we step into a new year of studying God's Word, let's begin by asking Him to renew our courage and conviction. Read more about Project23 and partner with us as we teach every verse of the Bible on video. Our text today is Judges 19:24-26. "Behold, here are my virgin daughter and his concubine; let me bring them out now. Violate them and do with them what seems good to you, but against this man do not do this outrageous thing." But the men would not listen to him. So the man seized his concubine and made her go out to them. And they knew her and abused her all night until the morning. And as the dawn began to break, they let her go. And as morning appeared, the woman came and fell down at the door of the man's house where her master was, until it was light." — Judges 19:24-26 The horror of this passage is hard to read. The Levite—a man we might call a pastor today—shows no concern for his "girlfriend". He once pursued her, but not out of love—out of pride and control. When danger came, he threw her to the mob to save himself and then slept through the night while she suffered. The "pastor" slept through sin and suffering, proving that apathy is just as dangerous as outright evil. The old man was no better, offering his own daughter to protect his reputation. Both men reflected a world that had lost God's heart—where leadership was selfish, morality was twisted, and compassion had collapsed. We see this same crisis today. Some pulpits have gone silent while the culture burns. Many churches have grown comfortable, preaching peace while ignoring perversion. Leaders fear cancelation more than conviction, and believers trade boldness for belonging. It's the same sickness—call it the "Levite spirit"—that values comfort over courage and self-preservation over sacrifice. When those called to lead stop leading, darkness fills the void. When shepherds sleep, the sheep scatter. This is why we must awaken. Apathy may look harmless, but it's not. It destroys us, the church, the culture, and the innocent. The Church must rise again—not in outrage, but in obedience. We must stand for life, truth, and purity before compromise becomes collapse. Now is the time to take courage. To speak the truth. To defend the innocent. To reject passive faith and rise up in active conviction. And as we step into a new year, let this be our spiritual reset. The world may celebrate resolutions, but we resolve to stand for righteousness, to begin this year with conviction that does not waver and courage that does not fade. ASK THIS: Who in your life is suffering because of someone's silence? Where have you chosen comfort over courage? What fears keep you from standing up for what's right? How can you defend the vulnerable in your circle this week? DO THIS: Identify one injustice or moral issue you've ignored—pray and take one small stand this week. Talk to your family about courage—teach them that silence is never neutral. Practice boldness in small things so you'll be ready for big ones. PRAY THIS: Lord, wake me up from complacency. Give me courage to stand for the innocent and to speak truth when it costs me. Let my faith be marked by conviction, not convenience. Amen. PLAY THIS: "Take Courage."

Your motivated kid turned into a teenager who doesn't care about anything. Now what? It's heartbreaking watching your once-enthusiastic child become indifferent to grades, goals, relationships - everything that used to matter to them. You're probably wondering if you did something wrong, if it's just a phase, or if there's any way back to the kid you remember. In this eye-opening interview, we dig into the real story behind teenage apathy and what parents can actually do about it. What We Cover: The fear driving both you and your teen (and why it paralyzes everyone) How the way you see yourself as a parent shapes everything Why how you view your apathetic teen matters more than you think Where your actual power lies as a parent (hint: it's not where you've been focusing) Practical ways to support your teen without enabling or pushing them away The difference between giving up and letting go Perfect for Parents Who: Have a teen who seems to care about nothing Feel powerless watching their child drift through life Wonder if their once-driven kid will ever find motivation again Are tired of nagging, bribing, and consequences that don't work Want to support their teen without losing their minds This isn't about quick fixes or forcing motivation. It's about understanding what's really happening and finding your role in the healing process. Because sometimes the best thing you can do is get out of your own way. Ready to see your apathetic teen - and yourself - differently? About my guest: In 1996, Alma Galván's world changed when both of her children were diagnosed with severe autism, ADHD, and sensory processing disorder. When doctors told her to institutionalize her son and move on with her life, she chose a different path—and began a journey that would transform thousands of lives. After seven years of research, Alma discovered powerful, science-backed techniques that dramatically improved her children's brain development. Within months, they made more progress than they had in years. Other parents noticed and began asking for help—leading Alma to create BrainWorx, a program that has now helped thousands of families overcome anxiety, overwhelm, distractibility, foggy thinking, and more. Her core discovery: movement changes the brain, and more brain function creates more ease in life. Alma is especially passionate about helping individuals who are looking for a solution that addresses the foundation and feel they have internal roadblocks. Her approach integrates brain development and emotional healing, creating a synergistic effect that accelerates growth and transformation. In December 2024, Alma survived a life-threatening aneurysm. Even while unconscious, her body continued to do small  movements  that she had practiced for years—evidence of how deeply they were woven into her. This is a part of why she and her doctors think she has recovers in a miraculous way. That experience deepened her devotion to this work, which she now continues through BrainWorx and Alma Integration, with even greater clarity, compassion, and purpose.
