How to navigate peri conversations with loved ones. In this episode Holly Wainwright sits down with two of her good friends, Ali Daddo and Jo Elvin, to share their experiences navigating perimenopause conversations with friends, partners and family. She is also a highly experienced broadcaster, who launched her new podcast “FAME with Jo Elvin” last year because we’ve all wondered what it’s like to be famous, right? Alison Brahe Daddo’s career journey has travelled through roles in modelling, education, charities, podcasting and writing. Ali published her first book "QUEEN MENOPAUSE" off the back of her own menopause journey to help others through theirs. This week on the podcast I go on a style journey with the funny and self-deprecating former You Magazine Editor and now CEO of Children with Cancer Charity, Jo Elvin. I first met Jo in the late 90's when she was editor of New Woman (we both admitted to being slightly intimidated by the other)…she went on to become editor in chief of Conde Nast's Glamour magazine, a position she held for 17 years before being lured away to edit You Magazine which she led brilliantly for 4 years before turning her hand to leading a major UK Charity. We talk about how she found her fashion mojo and dressing for the “gladiators arena” of the fashion world…to the politics of the Front Row and on to her now famous Week on the Wall wardrobe planning that she shares on Instagram … to getting her first tattoo… all told with warmth and humour.
They're BACK, after a teeny, tiny break, Lou and Sally are ready and more than willing to crack-open a bottle and prize out some embarrassing, drunk stories from celebrities for your listening pleasure, and today they get some absolute corkers from the very glamorous glossy magazine editor and podcast host, Jo Elvin!Jo revisits the hedonistic days of working on the fashion mags, which celebrities she got drunk and disorderly with, as well as one occasion which is the top gear of debauchery. We also find out what drinks the teenagers of Australia train themselves on AND a lesson in the world of K Pop! Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
If you've ever been pushed out of work or made redundant - usually for having a baby - then this episode is for you. The former editor-in-chief Jo Elvin speaks about the moment she was made redundant after 17 years at the helm of Glamour. The crisis of identity that ensued and how she has redefined success. Anna also speaks about the power of ‘average' and how ‘having it all' is really just code for ‘doing it all', which equals burnout and essentially losing everything. Original music by Matt J Brown at WeAreOK.com.
Jo Elvin has worked across a vast landscape of iconic global magazines including as the award-winning editor of You Magazine, and Glamour magazine. Jo's other positions in high-profile media corporations include publicist and writer, and have marked her out as one of the UK's true trailblazers when it comes to shaping the way we see life upon the pages of magazines. Jo joins Steven to talk about her secret sauce when it comes to creating a media empire, the surprising rise in strong feelings that she's seeing from the public when it comes to reactions to stories, and the fascinating story of her career so far. KEY TAKEAWAYS A sense of humour is critical when it comes to fashioning any kind of publication that you want the public to latch onto. Working in the industry allows you a rare insight into the stories that the public is fascinated by, but you can't always let those details slip. The public find themselves almost frenzied by the stories of people in the public eye. Sometimes it can create violent sentiment, and even factions that argue with one another. BEST MOMENTS 'I try to see the dry humour in things' 'Sometimes I think they would knife each other in an alley!' 'I don't understand caring and being obsessed to that degree' VALUABLE RESOURCES The Steven Sulley Study Jo Elvin Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/jo_elvin/?hl=en ABOUT THE HOST The Steven Sulley Study is my take on success. My view is you should have multiple focuses to be a well-rounded individual. Success shouldn't be just one thing like money, for example, it should also consist of a healthy fit lifestyle and thriving relationships. As a person who has made a success in life and also made huge cock-ups I feel I can offer suggestions and tips on how to become successful or at least start your pursuit. My 'Study' has taken resources from reading and education plus being around, my perception, of successful people and I, know a lot of successful people from all walks of life. My 'Study' coming from my experiences in business, investing, sales (my core background), training, boxing and education has enabled me to become well rounded and successful and I will help you in these key areas too. Michelle and Liz are joined in this episode by award-winning editor and presenter, Jo Elvin, who is the epitome of what Two Women Chatting represents. Earlier this year Jo resigned from her job as editor of the Mail on Sunday's YOU magazine after four years at the helm, citing a midlife crisis, having bought a lot of crazy coloured jumpsuits and becoming an avid fan of Korean pop boy bands! But rather than put her feet up, Jo has taken the helm of the Children With Cancer UK charity, continued hosting the Daily Mail Plus talk show/podcast Palace Confidential, become an advocate of the Menopause Mandate and started her podcast Fame. During the show she discusses what triggered her new direction, working in fashion and her philanthropy. We touch on the Harry and Meghan situation as an Australian observing the Royal Family for Palace Confidential and she shares her thoughts about becoming an empty nester in the nearish future - and the best thing about being a midlife woman. KEY TAKEAWAYS Cancer is the biggest killer of children in the UK yet there is little money available for research. Cancer treatments are designed for adults. Often, they are too hard on children´s bodies, they suffer terrible long-term side effects. By the time you reach the mid-life stage you have far more confidence. Midlife is a great time to try some new things. Younger people are increasingly mindful of consumerism and the damage fast fashion does. Jo´s new podcast takes an in-depth look at the way fame changes how a celebrity feels and thinks. BEST MOMENTS “As scary as it was, I wanted to leave the magazine editor job when everyone thought I was great.” “It seems to me that they (Harry and Megan) have gone from one sad situation to another.” “All her clothes are vintage or second hand, so she´s a completely different animal in that respect” “Probably by the end of January, we'll have raised £300 million for research.” EPISODE RESOURCES FAME podcast with Jo Elvin ABOUT THE HOSTS Liz Copping is a Networking Pro & Event Consultant, leaping out of her comfort zone to co-host this podcast. Michelle Ford is a professional voice actor and empty nester pressing reset, enjoying a new career in podcasting! michelleford1000@gmail.com CONTACT METHOD https://www.instagram.com/twowomenchatting/ https://twitter.com/ChattingTwo https://www.facebook.com/twowomenchatting Email: twowomenchatting@gmail.com PODCAST DESCRIPTION Join hosts Liz and Michelle redefining life over 50 as empty nesters, embracing the highs and lows of midlife with celebrity guests and experts, sharing a laugh on their podcast sofa. We talk about real concerns, issues, and fun topics that affect us, our friends, and our family. Midlife is not just about the menopause (although we'd be the first to admit it's right up there!) but it is a time of adventure, change and reset - with plenty of opportunities and challenges along the way. Whether we're chatting about ‘boomerang kids,' diet failures (and occasional successes!), pro-ageing, travel, changing relationships, or inspiration for new jobs or activities, there's always room for one more on our sofa. Today, in a special bonus episode, I have the joy of bringing you one of my favourite people - the broadcaster, journalist and now charity boss, Jo Elvin. She's an Australian powerhouse who I've been lucky enough to work with over several years (first when she was the editor of Glamour, then later when I became a columnist for You magazine under her reign) and now I just get to hang out with her as mates, which is even better. She joins me to talk about the end of Glamour as a print magazine and having to make her beloved staff redundant, a failure in friendship where she felt she let down someone whose child was very ill and a struggle to control her temper (but, I ask: does it really *have* to be controlled?!).--This episode is sponsored by Peloton – a fitness experience for your body and mind, so motivating and exhilarating that you'll come back to it time and time again.Find out more by visiting https://www.onepeloton.co.uk/--If you enjoyed this episode, do consider donating to Jo's incredible charity, Children With Cancer UK www.childrenwithcancer.org.uk--How To Fail With Elizabeth Day is hosted and produced by Elizabeth Day. In this weeks episode Natalie is joined by former Editor in Chief of Glamour & You Magazine Jo Elvin. Listen in as Jo talks in detail about her steady rise from junior at Australian teen bible Dolly to being at the helm of the UK's number 1 women's magazine for 17 years. She reflects on her favourite cover stars including a young Britney Spears, the culture and attitudes towards women in the noughties and how turning 50 played a pivotal role in her deciding to leave the magazine industry and start a new challenge in the charity sector. Discussing her involvement in the highly anticipated The Very Peri Summit, Jo recalls her own experience of being perimenopausal and experiencing menopausal symptoms at 46 and how she feels inspired by the likes of Davina McCall to push back on the narrative that women are past it when they reach this phase of life. She also shares anecdotes from parenting her 17 year old daughter Evie and how she wishes mat leave could be taken through the challenging teenage years of parenting. In a lighter moment Jo reveals her not so secret love for Korean pop and how the Y2K revival has no place in her wardrobe. In this episode of My Beauty Habits I speak to queen of denim Donna Ida.Donna fist came to my attention when I interviewed Trish McEvoy who not only waxed lyrical about her amazing denim jumpsuit but the woman herself. The more people i spoke to the more I heard her name and eventually the brilliant Jo Elvin connected us and the rest as they say is history.Donna tells the story of how she built her business and how anything is possible if you truly believe in your idea. We also chat about escaping to the countryside, the power of massage and then we delve into Donna's beauty habits.Donna is a inspiring, vivacious woman and i just know that she'll lift your spirits.
In this episode I welcome back the incredible Jo Elvin. Jo was the editor-in-chief of Glamour Magazine for 17 years and most recently the editor of YOU Magazine. She is truly one of the magazine industry greats. However, recently Jo made the decision to leave the security and prestige that comes with her role as editor, to go freelance and completely reinvent her career at the age of 52.During the episode we talk about making difficult changes, walking away from comfort and refusing to slip into the shadows as we get older. This is an episode about empowering ourselves to be the women we want to be rather than who we are expected to be. (Jo and I also have an honest conversation about the menopause and talk about the amazing power of having fabulous nails).I hope that my chat with Jo inspires you and makes you realise that sometimes feeling safe in your career isn't enough. We need to fight to feel truly fulfilled!

This weekend, You Magazine’s editor, Jo Elvin titled her Editors Letter “Ease Up Superwomen!” with a really open and honest personal story of how she struggled once she had been made redundant as it really challenged her identity. We take such pride in being considered strong, we feel that we have to be busy all the time in order to be taken seriously – I’m as bad as anyone else at not being able to sit down for any length of time which makes me think that sometimes we need to ask ourselves, WHY we are feeling the need to be superwoman? Who are we doing it for? Who are we trying to prove something to? Because if we are running from something below the surface, we will just keep running. It’s not going to go away. Don’t get me wrong, I’m a real plate spinner and that’s often a necessity in modern life but if it gets to the stage that you CAN’T stop or you are CONSTANTLY on the go in order to feel like you have to keep up, to fit in – then I think we have to be careful that we aren’t heading for a brick wall. One of my best friend's daughters recently gave a Ted talk, which was amazing and offered the simple yet profound observation that yes we are all different, but the challenge is in staying different. If only we could get our heads around the fact that we don't have to be the same, achieve the same or live the same, then we might give ourselves space to truly blossom.

In this episode of the miles younger podcast I meet the fabulous Jo Elvin, Editor of You magazine ands ex editor of Glamour magazine for 17 years…I love her she never holds back! You might have seen her recently on the BBC’s coverage of the Royal Wedding, she was one of the first to correctly predict Meghan's dress designer before anyone else! Jo launched Glamour magazine that defined an age and a generation of young women. Glamour sold more copies in its sector than any other in Europe, with a new format and its own voice. She knows what it takes to stay at the top in the world of celebrity and has featured many stars on her front cover but how have attitudes changed to ageing, what’s real and what isn’t? On the milesyounger counter we talk moisturising gels, totally under-rated under and not just great for those with oily skin. And in the miles younger truth what do women really think about the way men age, I talk to a bunch of women on a girls night out and they are extremely honest! Don't forget to rate and review us and I will be forever grateful and you can find more at miles younger.com or on Instagram and twitter @mrmilesyoungerProducts mentionedDecleor aroma solutios Energising gel £40 See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

It's shameless plug time, as Ellie and Helen discuss their new Scummy Mummies book! And keeping them in check is fabulous Glamour editor Jo Elvin! The Scummies reveal how they met, how they got their book deal, and how much wine they consumed during the writing process. Plus, find out why they have to keep their famous catsuits in a hermetically sealed bag. It's not all book talk - Helen explains why she hates athleisure wear, and Ellie reminisces about the time she took a pee in the middle of Clapham Common. There's an insightful analysis of the British and Australian education systems, and some chat about shagging. Happy Valentine's Day! But enough of all that – this week, Jo Elvin is joined by GLAMOUR's Leanne Bayley, and super-duper bestselling author Sophie Kinsella, whose new book My Not So Perfect Life is out now. So hey, is it OK to be *really* untidy? To live your life according to the rules of a celebrity role model? And is it OK to be oversensitive and assume that everything is a slight against you? The trio talk it out, as well as discussing CBT, Instagram and everything in between. Episode edited by Kat Brown with music by Martin Austwick. Jo Elvin is joined by Associate Director James Williams, and GLAMOUR columnist Fearne Cotton stops by to record the podcast approximately three feet along from her own portrait. They talk about Fearne's new book, Happy; her experiences of depression; and what it really takes to talk about your mental health. And this week we ask, hey, is it OK... to watch the red carpet bit of awards shows and only be interested in the frocks (sorry #askhermore)? Is it OK to not join in with activism? And is it OK to still feel utterly mortified about that thing that happened five years ago? Episode edited by Kat Brown with music by Martin Austwick. In the latest, entirely Trump-free podcast, we hear from Glamour UK's editor in chief Jo Elvin on its recent format change and price drop, its enduring place in the minds of its readers and how the magazine and society are reciprocal reflections of one another. In the news round-up, Chris and Esther talk Guardian rumours, print closures (we don't seek these out, we swear!) and the latest skirmish in the Facebook-Snapchat war.
As 2017 approaches, Radio 1 DJ and GLAMOUR's Radio Personality of the Year, Clara Amfo, joins Jo Elvin and Lucy Jones in the podcupboard for a lovely pre-New Year natter. And of course, they discuss everything that matters, and everything that doesn't. So, hey, is it OK...to tell people they're not invited to something (or worse – uninvite them); to rely on your mum all the time, even though you're a grown-ass woman; and to be one of those people who never answer their phone. Hey, we have WhatsApp now, right? Episode edited by Kat Brown, with music by Martin Austwick.
