Decoy Deloy is back with more Music News brought to you by Hello Merch. Here at Hello, we don't mess around: we do merch, we do it right, and we put artists first. And this week, we're pleased to announce a fresh new addition to the Hello fam: that's right, the legendary DEVO is in the house. Formed in Akron, Ohio in 1973, DEVO has gone on to inspire countless bands, blending high concept satire with catchy post-punk sounds. This is a big year for Devo. First off, there's Devo Doc, which premiered this year at Sundance. Directed by Chris Smith, director of the incredible film American Movie, this film offers an inside look at DEVO's creative process. In late September, DEVO's Gerald Casale will receive the Ernie Kovacs Award at Dallas VideoFest, an honor that's previously gone to Robert Smigel and Pee-Wee Herman himself, Paul Reubens, and of course, DEVO recently hit NPR to offer a one-of-a-kind Tiny Desk performance.Over in their Hello shop, you can score everything from signed posters to shirts, beach towels, or your very own ENERGY DOME!In other news: Lusine, Yppah, and Arms and Sleepers are heading out on what they've dubbed the “Earth To Moon” tour. Formed in 2006 by Mirza Ramic and Max Lewis, recent years have found Mirza acting in a solo capacity, blending ambient music with trip-hop beats and found sound samples. Back in March, we invited him and his friends at Sly Vinyl up to the WASTOIDS loft for a special set and it was pretty dang sick. The tour kicks off October 23rd in Brooklyn, and will find the crew traveling cross country, hitting Phoenix on November 10th, when they'll play Thunderbird Lounge. Arms and Sleepers latest is called What Tomorrow Brings. And to close, meet Jaimie Muehlhausen. He's the man behind Vibrosonic Graphic Design Studio, the viral website Men Who Look Like Kenny Rogers, and for decades, he's worked as the creative director of legendary skater Tony Hawk. When he emailed Decoy, we knew we had to reach out to learn more. Tune in to hear his fascinating story. Call us anytime at 1-877-WASTOIDS. The Lakers have constructed most of their roster—just that pesky final center (presumably) remains—and generally to terms very favorable to the team. One wrinkle that was disclosed this week? Via Keith Smith, the cap guru, D'Angelo Russell waived the no-trade clause afforded him (and any other player signing a similar deal) thanks to his contract, which amounts to only one guaranteed year, since the second one is an option. Why?Does that mean Russell is, once again, on the trade block, before the ink even dries on this deal? Well, sort of? Russell will always be placed into trade rumors. He's been there since the Lakers drafted him. He was in rumors in Brooklyn. He was in rumors in Golden State. He was in rumors this summer. He'll be in rumors next year, the year after, and with whatever teams he plays for before he retires. But it's a setup that benefits everyone. If the Lakers are going well and Russell is playing well, he's not going to be dealt at all. If he's not? It benefits everyone to make his departure easier.Meanwhile, Max Christie is looking excellent in Summer League, not just as a scorer but displaying a full floor game. The difference he could make in LA's rotation this season, if he's a guy the team would want to play 15-20 a night vs. can play 10-15 is dramatic. That's like acquiring a $5-10 million player via free agency, or making a trade where you sacrifice nothing. And it's the floor game that gets him in the rotation, not the scoring. That's the skill the Lakers are least likely to need. Jalen Hood-Schifino has also settled into very steady play. Very few mistakes, very little flash. Just solid decision after solid decision. The outside shot needs to come, but for now, the type of low turnover, low mistake ball he's playing is what the Lakers would need if he's pressed into service (or, of course, earns it). Finally, Max Lewis signed a four-year deal. Are the Lakers getting smarter about locking up second rounders? Or is it a matter of representation?HOSTS: Andy and Brian KamenetzkySEGMENT 1: Russell waives his no-trade clause. What's up with that?SEGMENT 2: Is Max Christie the new Austin Reaves?SEGMENT 3: Jalen Hood-Schifino has an interesting comp, according to a viewer on the YT page.Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!BirddogsGo to birddogs.com/LOCKEDONNBA or enter promo code LOCKEDONNBA for a free Yeti style tumbler. Yahoo Sports' Krysten Peek and Jake Fischer give their takeaways from watching the rookies at the 2023 NBA Summer League, including Victor Wembanyama, Amen and Ausar Thompson, Scoot Henderson, Brandon Miller and many more.3:30 - Victor Wembanyama bounced back from a bad game one and some negative press surrounding the Britney Spears situation to have a solid performance in game two. Both hosts agree it's not even close to time for concern about Wembanyama.7:50 - Scoot Henderson put on a show going up against Amen Thompson, and impressed Jake with the way he stepped up as a leader on the team. KP thinks it's possible that Scoot Henderson will be more productive than Wembanyama early in their careers.13:50 - Brandon Miller has been a bit of a let down so far coming off only eleven points in the first game. Jake wonders if the Charlotte Hornets are already having some buyers remorse in taking him over Scoot Henderson. On the bright side, it appears Miller and teammate LaMelo Ball are already building good chemistry on the court.19:15 - Last year's second overall pick Chet Holmgren is back on the court after missing last season, and he looks great so far. The history of red-shirt rookies winning Rookie of the Year is a pretty encouraging sign for Holmgren in 2023.30:35 - More rookies: KP and Jake give updates on Cam Whitmore, Keyonte George and Ausar Thompson, who have all impressed early.39:30 - Lightning round: KP and Jake finish things off by speeding through a few additional takeaways, including the Los Angeles Lakers rookies, Colin Castleton, Max Lewis, Emani Gates, the Denver Nuggets and more.Check out the rest of the Yahoo Sports podcast family at https://apple.co/3zEuTQj or at Yahoo Sports PodcastsSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
The young Lakers players on their Summer League team continue to look good, winning two more games over the weekend. But while there's plenty to talk about with Jalen Hood-Schifino, Colin Castleton, Max Lewis, Max Christie and more, it was stuff Rob Pelinka was saying to the media that got a lot of attention. He noted in a couple of interviews that he had talked to Anthony Davis once again about his position on the floor, and that the Lakers would like to repeat some of the success from 2020, when A.D. played most of his minutes with another big next to him.Does that mean the Lakers plan to start Davis with another big? Jaxson Hayes, or whoever they look for with the 14th roster spot? (Pelinka confirmed they'd like to find another big.) Would that be a bench configuration the Lakers deploy from time to time, when the matchups are right?Where Davis plays, at power forward or center, has been a hot-button issue thanks to numbers indicating how well the Lakers perform with Davis as a five. It's why he played 99% of his minutes last year at center, compared to about 90% at power forward back in 2019-20. Of course, the Lakers also had a pair of viable centers in JaVale McGee and Dwight Howard, as opposed to only having Hayes, who could break out in L.A., but to this point hasn't been a reliable pro.So what was Pelinka talking about? Is there a C out there who could change that dynamic? How much PF would you expect Davis to play this year?(And is Castleton a solution to any of this? He continues to dominate SPL.)Finally, the NBA announced the rules and groups for its inaugural in-season tournament. The Lakers are in group play with Portland, Memphis, Utah and Phoenix. How will they approach those games? Will teams like the Lakers care? Will their fans? Who is thing designed for, anyway?HOSTS: Andy and Brian KamenetzkySEGMENT 1: Pelinka talks Cs, and where Davis might play this year.SEGMENT 2: How much PF would you expect Davis to play? The young Lakers players on their Summer League team continue to look good, winning two more games over the weekend. But while there's plenty to talk about with Jalen Hood-Schifino, Colin Castleton, Max Lewis, Max Christie and more, it was stuff Rob Pelinka was saying to the media that got a lot of attention. He noted in a couple of interviews that he had talked to Anthony Davis once again about his position on the floor, and that the Lakers would like to repeat some of the success from 2020, when A.D. played most of his minutes with another big next to him. Does that mean the Lakers plan to start Davis with another big? Jaxson Hayes, or whoever they look for with the 14th roster spot? (Pelinka confirmed they'd like to find another big.) Would that be a bench configuration the Lakers deploy from time to time, when the matchups are right? Where Davis plays, at power forward or center, has been a hot-button issue thanks to numbers indicating how well the Lakers perform with Davis as a five. It's why he played 99% of his minutes last year at center, compared to about 90% at power forward back in 2019-20. Of course, the Lakers also had a pair of viable centers in JaVale McGee and Dwight Howard, as opposed to only having Hayes, who could break out in L.A., but to this point hasn't been a reliable pro. So what was Pelinka talking about? Is there a C out there who could change that dynamic? How much PF would you expect Davis to play this year? (And is Castleton a solution to any of this? He continues to dominate SPL.) Finally, the NBA announced the rules and groups for its inaugural in-season tournament. The Lakers are in group play with Portland, Memphis, Utah and Phoenix. How will they approach those games? Will teams like the Lakers care? Will their fans? Who is thing designed for, anyway? HOSTS: Andy and Brian Kamenetzky SEGMENT 1: Pelinka talks Cs, and where Davis might play this year. SEGMENT 2: How much PF would you expect Davis to play? Is it a good idea? SEGMENT 3: On the new in-season tourney. Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors! Birddogs Go to birddogs.com/LOCKEDONNBA or enter promo code LOCKEDONNBA for a free Yeti style tumbler. 6/22/23 So much to talk about in tonight's episode. The LA Clippers were involved in a 3 team deal with the Washington Wizards & Boston Celtics that got cancelled last minute due to the Clips pulling out. Marcus Morris and Amir Coffey were set to go to Washington, Kristaps Porzingis to Boston, & Malcolm Brogdon to LA. But given Malcolm's injury history, the Clippers backed out. A trade still took place however with Marcus Smart traded to Memphis and Tyus Jones of the Grizzlies headed to Washington. In shocking news on Draft Day, Chris Paul was traded to the Warriors for Jordan Poole & Patrick Baldwin Jr. Also will be talking NBA Draft, Max Lewis to the Lakers, and more. Adam Spinella joins Sam Vecenie this episode to break down two hugely important NBA games over the weekend. We start with the awesome Lakers-Mavericks game where the Lakers came back from down deep in the first half against the Mavericks to win. Then we move to the awesome Sixers-Celtics game from Saturday, where the Celtics pulled out a big win but the 76ers maybe got some belief for a future playoff series? After that, Sam and Spins talk about a few 2023 NBA Draft prospects that you need to catch right now as opposed to waiting, because their season is about to end. Prospects like Brice Sensabaugh, GG Jackson, Brandin Podziemski, Taylor Hendricks, Max Lewis, and Judah Mintz are all interesting in some regard, but probably only have a couple of weeks left of play. Diving into their games and what to watch for. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
David and Tyler dig in to three of the most enjoyable (offensive) prospects in the 2023 class Jett Howard, Max Lewis and Brice Sensabaugh. Starting with Jett, they cover his diverse offensive profile, under-discussed defensive potential and ultimate offensive upside. In Max they touch on his plug-and-play offensive skillset, ideal position in the NBA and defensive projection. Finally with Brice they cover his overwhelming production, flashes of playmaking and major defensive question marks. They wrap the episode debating the ideal early-career developmental context for each prospect before ranking them individually. *minor issues with audio occasionally cutting out during first 15 minutes, resolved for remainder of episode

This week Tom and Tristan discuss the controversial Brazil Grand Prix in which Hamilton got disqualified from qualifying, made up 15 places in the sprint race, and won the Grand Prix from 10th on the grid. Within this episode we discuss: Hamilton's disqualification and whether it was the correct penalty, the Max - Lewis racing incident and whether Verstappen pushed Hamilton off the track, and whether a 5 place grid penalty is enough for an engine change given the increased performance from running a new power unit. -- F1 Fantasy --Think you can do better at managing an F1 team than us?You can join our F1 in Review fantasy league using the link below!https://fantasy.formula1.com/league/84054Alternatively you can use our league code: 31851ad89d -- Find F1 in Review on your favourite podcast streaming platform -- Apple Podcasts/Google Podcastshttps://podfollow.com/1524202018 Spotifyhttps://sptfy.com/f1inreview -- Find Us On Social Media --Official F1 in ReviewTwitter - twitter.com/F1inReviewTristan FancourtTwitter - twitter.com/tristanfancourtTom Clabon Twitter - twitter.com/teclabonLiv PerryTwitter - twitter.com/livperry99--Production Details --Presented by: Tom Clabon, Tristan Fancourt, Liv Perry, and Angus GallagerProduced by: Tom Clabon, Tristan Fancourt, Liv Perry, and Angus GallagerEdited by: Tristan FancourtExecutive Producer: Tristan Fancourt See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Aaron Smith's new memoir holds up a unique mirror to Australia. What he sees is at once amazing, disturbing and revealing. The Rock explores the failings of our nation's character, its unresolved past and its uncertain future from the vantage point of its most northerly outpost, Thursday Island. Smith was the last editor, fearless journalist and the paperboy of Australia's most northerly newspaper, The Torres News, a small independent regional tabloid that, until it folded in late 2019, was the voice of a predominantly Torres Strait Islander and Aboriginal readership for 63 years across some of the most remote and little understood communities in Australia. The Rock is a story of self-discovery where Smith grapples to understand a national identity marred by its racist underbelly, where he is transplanted from his white-boy privileged suburban life to being a racial and cultural minority, and an outsider. Peppered with his experiences, Smith gradually and sensitively becomes embedded in island life while vividly capturing the endless and often farcical parade of personalities and politicians including Scott Morrison and Tony Abbott. In this episode, Aaron Smith joins Max Lewis to unpack his thoughts around The Rock, and how his time on Thursday Island has shaped his life. In 1907, Alice Mitchell was arrested for the murder of five-month-old Ethel Booth. During the inquest and subsequent trial, the general public was horrified to learn that at least 37 infants had died in Mitchell's care in the previous six years. 'The Edward Street Baby Farm' retraces this infamous tragedy and a trial which gripped the nation and led to legislative changes to protect children's welfare. In this episode, Stella joined Max Lewis to chat about her experience writing the book, and its relevance today. Drawing on his experiences as a child of Burmese migrants fleeing a military junta and his evolution from a naive law clerk, too shy to speak, into a lawyer whose ponytailed flamboyance and unbridled willingness to speak truth to power riled many within the legal establishment, Andrew Boe delves into cases he found unable to leave behind. These cases have shaped who he has become. Taking us from a case of traditional punishment gone wrong in the Gibson Desert to deaths in police custody on Palm Island and in Yuendumu in the Northern Territory - places where race relations are often stalled in a colonial time warp - to an isolated rural home, and the question of what is self-defence after decades of domestic abuse; to cases of children abandoned, 'stolen' and then fought over; and into prison interview rooms and courthouses around the country where Boe defended serial killers, rapists, child sex offenders, murderers as well as the odd politician - he holds fast to the premise that either every one of us is entitled to the presumption of innocence or none of us are.In this episode, Andrew joins Max Lewis to expand on 'The Truth Hurts' - explaining our misconception that the justice system is designed to find the truth, and the effect of the Black Lives Matter movement on this country's tragedy of Indigenous deaths in custody. Suddenly, when the country caught fire, people realised what the government has not: that climate change is killing us. But climate deaths didn't start in 2019. Medical officers have been warning of a health emergency as temperatures rise for years, and for at least a decade Australians have been dying from the plagues of climate change – from heat, flood, disease, smoke. And now, pandemic. In this detailed, considered, compassionate book, Paddy Manning paints us the big picture. He revisits some headline events which might have faded in our memory, and brings to our attention less well-publicised killers. In each case, he has interviewed scientists to explore the link to climate change and asks how – indeed, whether – we can better prepare ourselves in the future. In this episode, Paddy joins Max Lewis to open up about his experience in writing the book, and how the current climate disaster and COVID-19 pandemic have more in common than we might think.Find out more: https://bit.ly/30c2sKk
Hailed as ‘a fearless exposer of folly, vice and crime' when it first hit the streets in the 1890s, Truth was later condemned by a High Court Judge as ‘a wretched little paper, reeking of filth, injurious to the health of house servants and young girls'. Adrian Tame knows that better than anyone as he worked for Truth for more than a decade as a reporter and news editor. In the years it was owned by the Murdoch family he worked alongside young Rupert as he cut his teeth on the shock horror scandals that graced the pages of Truth when it was selling a whopping 400,000 copies a week.Funny, often outrageous and always thoroughly entertaining, The Awful Truth is a rollercoaster ride through an colourful era of newspapers and larger-than-life reporters that we will never see the like of again. The joys and travails of childhood, adult addictions, missteps and changing directions are acutely captured in poignant and poetic detail. The day after the 2015 Paris terror attacks, twenty-eight-year-old Canadian Jamil Jivani opened the newspaper to find that the men responsible were familiar to him. He didn't know them, but the communities they grew up in and the challenges they faced mirrored the circumstances of his own life. His book, 'Why Young Men' traces Jivani's education as an activist fighting one of today's most dangerous and intractable problems: acts of violence by angry young men. Jivani relates his personal story, his work with disenfranchised people of colour in North America and at risk youth in the Middle East and Africa, and his experiences with the white working class. He profiles a diverse array of young men – and those trying to help them – drawing parallels between these groups, refuting the popular belief that they are radically different from each other, and offering concrete steps towards countering this global trend.Jamil joined Max Lewis to chat about the process of writing the book and revisiting his adolescence, the role of the media in shaping identity, and what parents can do to make sure their sons aren't going down a dangerous path.
