Spawned is back (whoo!) with host Liz Gumbinner of Cool Mom Picks and Mom-101. I'm excited to get back to what I love most-- helping us get through the ups and downs of parenting together. Each week I'll be joined by compelling experts, best-selling authors, entrepreneurs, comedians, therapists, and even some big celebrities. I'm thrilled to kick things off with Jaclyn Lindsey, the remarkable founder and CEO of kindness.org. We're talking about what the science of kindness can teach us about raising kind humans. Jaclyn shares what we're doing right, what we're getting wrong, and some super-practical tips we can put to use right away. Jaclyn shares the difference between being nice and being kind, and lets us in on some common "acts of kindness" that...don't do much at all. Oops. Get ready to learn a ton. ---- Thanks to our sponsor Sourcebooks, publisher of I Am Money, the wonderful new Schoolhouse Rock-style book by Julia Cook, Garrett Gunderson, and Josh Cleland that's helping parents raise kids to have a healthy relationship with money for life. ----- Follow Spawned: Apple, Spotify, Amazon Join: Spawned Podcast FB Community Find Cool Mom Picks: Instagram, Facebook, Threads Find Liz Gumbinner: Instagram, Facebook, Substack, Threads Find Jaclyn Lindsey: Website, Facebook, Instagram, X Shownotes from today's episode: Cool Mom Pick Podcast Page Subscribe for cool picks right in your inbox: coolmompicks.com/subscribe/ Learn more about your ad choices. What Fresh Hell: Laughing in the Face of Motherhood | Parenting Tips From Funny Moms

Contrary to what social media would have us believe, not every hobby has to turn into a madly successful side-hustle that takes the world by storm. Margaret talks with Liz Gumbinner, co-host of the podcast "Spawned with Kristen and Liz," about why it's okay to just make really delicious cookies. Liz Gumbinner is a writer, award-winning ad agency creative director, and mom of teens. Online she's better known as the publisher of coolmompicks.com and the author of the OG mom blog Mom-101. Her Substack newsletter, I'm Walking Here, looks at media, politics, and culture through a witty parenting lens. Liz and Margaret discuss why parenting itself has become another thing to "hustle" around, as well as the difference between ambition and "the hustle." It's great to spend a night with your family or friends without taking/posting any pics at all and just being present, says Liz. It gives you perspective on what's important in life and helps you refocus how you want to spend more of your time. For every parenting victory, there is a parenting fail - perhaps several. But rather than get stressed out to the point of tears, it's usually better to laugh about the madness of parenthood. This episode is the sixth edition of parenting fails featuring parents who have appeared on the podcast to share their stories. Parents featured in this episode include: Dr. Robert Keith Wallace, author of Dharma Parenting, who was interviewed in episode 43 of the podcast. Kristen Chase, half of the duo from Cool Mom Picks, who were interviewed in episode 45 of the podcast. Liz Gumbinner, the other half of the Cool Mom Picks duo who were interviewed in episode 45 of the podcast. Leslie Patricelli, the children’s author and illustrator of popular books such as Potty, Yummy Yucky, Huggy Kissy and Big Little who was interviwed in episode 46 of the podcast. Amy McCready, the founder of Positive Parenting Solutions and the author of The Me, Me, Me Epidemic who was interviwed in episode 47 of the podcast. Two very cool moms are on the show this week - Kristen Chase and Liz Gumbinner of Cool Mom Picks. Since their Cool Mom Picks website was launched in 2006, it has grown into one of the best gear, style and design sites on the web for parents. Parents Magazine even called their site "The online arbiter of cool for the swingset crowd." Kristen and Liz also host their own podcast called Spawned, which I definitely recommend. They are both reallyentertaining and enjoyable to listen to, which you’ll hear in this episode. In our conversation, we talk about how Cool Mom Picks started, why it’s important for parents to share lessons and ideas with each other and some of the favorite things Kristen and Liz have reviewed on their site. They'll even offer advice for anyone thinking about starting their own website.

Spawned Parenting Podcast with Kristen and Liz of CoolMomPicks

Hi, we're Liz Gumbinner and Kristen Chase of CoolMomPicks.com. We've got a microphone and more than the two minutes the Today Show gives us, and we're not afraid to use them. Join us for parenting culture discussions, non-judgy (mostly) tips, and humor, if we've had enough coffee.   "Spawned is the best podcast ever! I love Kristen and Liz. I even schedule my shoot days around the new episodes." - What Jennifer Garner might say if she ever listened to it.
