How to get out of your own way. Sometimes the necessary thing for becoming an intuitive eater isn't more mindfulness skills or gentle nutrition strategies - it's letting go of certain behaviors. In this episode, I'm outlining the 5 key things that I had to quit doing that cleared the path for me to fully make peace with food and become an intuitive eater. Quitting each of these things felt uncomfortable in the moment, but it was exactly what I needed in order to break free from the grip that diet culture still had on me. If you've ever felt stuck trying to figure out how to eat things like ice cream or your favorite potato chips without going overboard or still feeling guilty, or afraid to let go of your bathroom scale because it makes you feel “safe” to know what's happening with your weight, then this episode is going to show you what's possible when you choose to let go of these behaviors and deepen your trust with yourself and your body. 3 KEY TAKEAWAYS FROM THIS EPISODE:

In this Fitness Friday episode on the Habits and Hustle podcast, Sal Di Stefano joins me to break down the science of blood sugar control, why intermittent fasting is "a terrible way to lose weight," and the shocking truth about cardio versus strength training for fat loss. We also unpack the biggest mistake women make when tracking progress: obsessing over the scale instead of body composition. Sal explains why 40% of weight lost through cardio comes from muscle, shares a study where strength training alone beat cardio AND strength training combined for fat loss, and reveals why psychologists now prescribe high-protein breakfasts to anxious patients. Sal Di Stefano is a fitness expert with over 20 years of personal training experience and co-host of the Mind Pump podcast, one of the top-rated fitness shows in the world. What we discuss: How protein at breakfast controls blood sugar and reduces anxiety throughout the day The two-question filter for any fitness advice: "Will I do it?" and "Is it realistic?" On April 4, 2025, I presented live on the topic of the shifting paradigm of billable hour and serving new legal market opportunities. I presented alongside Clio's Lawyer in Resident, Joshua Lenon. Here are the top 5 takeaways:* AI Will Automate a Large Portion of Legal WorkUp to 75% of all hourly billable work in law firms is projected to be automatable by AI in the coming years. This shift is already underway, with rapid adoption of AI tools across firms of all sizes, especially in mid-sized and larger firms.* The Billable Hour Model Is Becoming ObsoleteAs AI drastically reduces the time required for many legal tasks, the traditional billable hour model is increasingly unsustainable. Flat fees, subscriptions, and value-based billing are emerging as more client-friendly and profitable alternatives, especially as clients become more aware of AI's capabilities.* The Latent Legal Market Is a Massive OpportunityThere is a huge unmet demand for legal services—estimated at over $1.3 trillion in the US alone. By leveraging AI and moving away from billable hours, lawyers can serve more clients, offer greater pricing certainty, and tap into this latent market.* Industry-Specific AI Tools and Data Security Are EssentialGeneric AI tools are not reliable sources of truth for legal work. Lawyers should prioritize industry-specific AI solutions that use retrieval augmented generation (RAG) and ensure privacy, security, and compliance (e.g., SOC 2, HIPAA). Using the right tools helps avoid ethical pitfalls and increases accuracy.* Client Expectations and Legal Practice Are EvolvingMost clients either prefer or are indifferent to their lawyers using AI, and younger generations are especially open to it. Lawyers must focus on delivering value, efficiency, and transparency. Adopting AI and new billing models not only meets client expectations but also positions firms for future success.__________________________Here's a link to the slide deck that goes with the presentation.Want to maximize your law firm? “I really felt like alcohol was the one thing that was keeping me from being the person that I wanted to be."If you've ever wondered how alcohol might be impacting your ability to show up fully in your life, or if you're just curious about making any change that feels a little scary, this episode is for you. I sat down with Sumner Brooks, a registered dietitian, mom, and author of How to Raise an Intuitive Eater, who bravely shares her story of quitting alcohol and how it changed everything from her mental health to her parenting and beyond. While we usually focus on food and body image on Diet Culture Rebel, today we zoom out to explore what it means to get curious about anything that might be getting in the way of living your fullest, most connected life. Sumner opens up about what finally made sobriety "stick” for her after years of trying, how vulnerability paved the way for real change, and the actual joy and presence she discovered in sobriety. We also talk about how ingrained alcohol is in our daily lives and our culture, what it looks like to navigate those familiar “Why aren't you drinking?” comments, and where food and alcohol are similar (and importantly, different) when it comes to compulsion, habituation, and addiction. Sumner's story is a powerful reminder that even if everything looks fine on the outside, you're allowed to want more peace and presence on the inside. No matter what you're working on - food, alcohol, or something entirely different - I invite you to go into this episode with curiosity and self-compassion. Sometimes, you don't even know when you need to hear something until you do.What You'll Learn:How Sumner realized alcohol was keeping her from showing up in the life she worked so hard to buildThe role of vulnerability and community storytelling in making big life changesWhy “mommy wine culture” is so normalized, and how that intersects with diet culture's mixed messages about food and alcoholHow reading other women's stories helped Sumner finally quit drinking for goodHow sobriety changed Sumner's relationship with herself, her parenting, and her ability to be fully presentThe real differences between intuitive eating and “intuitive drinking”, and why abstinence from alcohol is not the same as cutting out foodsThank you so much to Sumner for sharing her truth so openly and authentically. If this episode sparked anything for you about drinking, food, parenting, or just wanting more presence in your life, hold onto that curiosity and let it guide your next step, even if it's small.Check out Sumner's book, How to Raise an Intuitive Eater: Raising the Next Generation with Food and Body Confidence.Come back next week for another episode and connect with me over on Instagram at @diet.culture.rebel.Struggling with food, but not sure where to start? You don't have to feel 100% ready to get support. So many of us make promises to ourselves out of shame - “From Monday, I'll be better. I'll drink more water, I'll stop doing that thing, I'll finally get it right.” And yet, by Tuesday, we've broken our own rules and slipped back into self-sabotage.In this episode, I'm joined by psychotherapist and bestselling author Anna Mathur, whose new book The Good Decision Diary is an invitation to step away from that exhausting cycle of all-or-nothing thinking and instead learn how to make gentler, more sustainable choices.Anna shares her own journey of moving from self-criticism to self-compassion, why guilt and shame show up so powerfully in our lives, and how small, nurturing decisions - even the tiniest ones - can lead to real, lasting change. This is a conversation about loosening the grip of perfectionism, finding freedom in the “grey areas,” and discovering that we don't need an inner bully to succeed. The Good Decision Diary by Anna Mathur is available now (Penguin Life, £16.99)Try Bettervits for yourself, head on over to bettervits.co.uk and get 15% off your 1st order with my code PANDORA15.Find Anna: Instagram: @annamathurWebsite: https://www.annamathur.com/Buy her book: https://www.penguin.co.uk/books/462726/the-good-decision-diary-by-mathur-anna/9780241707227 Stay Connected with Hurt to Healing:Instagram: instagram.com/hurttohealingpodTikTok: tiktok.com/@hurttohealingpodLinkedIn: linkedin.com/company/hurt-to-healingSubstack: substack.com/@hurttohealingWebsite: hurttohealing.co.uk Hosted on Acast. Wil talks with Anthony Hamilton of Icon Group Hospitality about building people-first restaurant businesses that last. They riff on digital minimalism (Wil's flip phone!), presence with family, and the hard edges of hospitality—burnout, 24/7 crises, substance abuse—then pivot to how thoughtful leadership, balance, and systems can make the work sustainable. Anthony traces his path from CIA-trained chef to operator/educator to acquiring legacy independent brands and venues, explaining creative deal structures, venue-first catering strategy, and a culture that prizes productivity over performative “grind.” The throughline: lead with hospitality, invest in people, use simple tech well, and protect the soul of beloved neighborhood institutions.Key takeaways Presence beats obsession: Ditching always-on smartphones can reduce noise and make you a better leader, parent, and human. Hospitality is holistic: Mental health, family time, and modeling balance are part of the job, not perks. People > spreadsheets: “Internal customers” (your team) drive guest experience; treat them with autonomy, flexibility, and respect. Productivity > hours: Question 50+ hour weeks; manage to outcomes, not optics. Predictive labor wins: Forecast sales, schedule to targets, and adjust—don't try to “cut” your way out after the fact. Simple tech scales: Use lightweight tools (like scheduling/communications) your staff actually adopts; avoid bells-and-whistles bloat. Legacy brand stewardship: When buying independents, preserve what locals love while modernizing ops; owners are often the brand—honor that story. Creative deals keep doors open: Mix owner financing, profit-sharing, and note-holding to match seller needs and protect cash. Venue-first catering strategy: Securing exclusive/long-term venue leases reliably feeds the catering pipeline. Unreasonable touches pay back: Small, thoughtful gestures (a $60 video game + handwritten note) can lock in lifelong clients. Turnover is expensive: Retention beats replacement—paying an extra $0.50–$1/hour can save thousands in churn costs. Lead by example: Owners will always care most; don't expect staff to out-hustle you—set the standard and the tone.

Karen Salmansohn is a celebrated author, behavioral change expert, and founder of NotSalmon.com, with over 2 million books and courses sold and more than 1.5 million followers online. Known for blending psychological research, neuroscience, philosophy, and signature humor, she's coached millions to ditch “near-life experiences” and start living fully and intentionally. Her new book, Your To-Die-For Life, invites readers to use mortality awareness—not as morbid fear, but as bold motivation to rethink priorities, clarify values, and finally take action on what matters most. Karen reveals how the death of her father led to a “near-life experience” epiphany—a wake-up call to stop living on autopilot and embrace life with meaning, presence, and urgency. Why writing your own eulogy (with her playful Mad Libs template) is a powerful, practical exercise for clarifying what you want your legacy to be. The “alphabet” of regret-proof core values—authentic, brave, curious, discerning, empathic love, fun, and grateful—and how to translate them into identity-based habits to overcome fear and pursue bold goals, including wealth. Science-backed behavioral strategies for making changes that stick, creating habits tied to core identity, and using cognitive dissonance to motivate positive action. Karen's process for focusing on a handful of values that truly matter—reverse-engineered from research on the top regrets of the dying, so listeners can proactively avoid them. Insightful stories from her bestselling books, her career pivot from advertising and screenwriting, and practical ways to make “someday” goals into today's actions. How boldness, intentionality, and self-definition are critical not only for personal happiness, but for building wealth and a life with no major regrets. In this episode's discussions around the Community Table: The Un-Billable Hour takes on a very real move away from the “billable hour.” As Christopher says, the billable hour “is the worst thing that ever happened to law.” Clients pay for results, not time. Examine alternative fee structures as technology changes the practice of law. Young lawyers looking to maximize lifetime earnings have choices. Big firm partnership track or solo practice? Ask yourself if you have the “fire” under you to build a practice from nothing, because there's no ceiling on earnings when you build your dream. But if that's not you, maybe the big law firm path is right. No matter where you are, knowing where you want to get to is hard. Christopher explains how charting a career path takes a real, conscious effort, and it can change over time. Make time for contemplation and move with purpose.
