The photo world is filled with remarkable young and up-and-coming talents. They often don't get the visibility they deserve, so we created Next Frame—a new monthly series aiming to shine a light their way. These bite-sized episodes are equally inspired by the guests we speak with and the invaluable contributions of local creative arts programs that have played a key role in their development. We're launching this series with photographer, filmmaker, and boxing & music aficionado Josh Nass, an alumnus of Baltimore's Wide Angle Youth Media programs. From nailing his Photoshop skills while still in middle school to trading in his boxing gloves for a camera during college and beyond, Josh regales us with practical tips about both the successes and challenges all young creatives must face as they transition from trading pictures for access to molding media skills into a profitable career. Looking back on his early days chasing both music and fashion scenes, Josh notes, “Your main role as a photographer—especially with talent and famous people—you know, I thought I was just making them look cool, but I'm making them money. I'm marketing them for their next tour, for their current tour. Looking back, I've learned a thing or two about how to get users' attention online.” Guest: Josh Nass Episode Timeline: 2:04: Baltimore/DC-based photographer Josh Nass talks about first picking up a camera to fill his time after hanging up his boxing gloves. 3:40: Leveraging social media to get on stage and photograph his favorite Caribbean singer, then trading free pictures for ongoing access. 7:25: Navigating one's comfort level as an up-and-coming photographer, plus making a distinction between comfort with gear and social ease with subjects and clients. 9:08: Making pictures of cool moments, creative editing decisions to draw out the cool factor, and being first to deliver the files are all key to Josh's success. 14:02: Street hustling at New York Fashion Week to gain access to photograph top artists and celebrities, and the tough lessons Josh learned in the process. 19:06: Josh's connection to Baltimore's Wide Angle Youth Media and the formative role their programs have played in his early photography success. 22:50: Being referred by Wide Angle for a Comcast commercial, and the backstory to what transpired behind-the-scenes. 29:49: Josh weighs future career options and whether he'll choose to pursue photography full time. 35:40: Essential advice for emerging photographers: Prioritize building your skills and don't overvalue your work early on. Plus, a look at Josh's first big paid gig for a Keke Palmer concert and marketing campaign. Guest Bio: Josh Nass is a Baltimore/DC-based freelance photographer and a senior at the University of Maryland, College Park, where he's pursuing a bachelor's degree in information science. As a high school graduate of The Baltimore School for the Arts and a participant Baltimore's Wide Angle Youth Media non-profit, he's honed his subject-based style to give each of his shoots, whether its celebrities, musicians, athletes, or models, a unique “wow” factor. #589 Nick Church is a seasoned wedding and commercial photographer, educator, and the founder of the Nick Church Creative Academy. With nearly a decade of professional experience, Nick has become recognized for both his creative eye and his commitment to helping other photographers grow in their craft. Having transitioned from the software industry to full-time photography, he brings a unique blend of business acumen and technical expertise to the table.KEY TOPICS COVEREDEvolving Creativity and Staying Motivated in Wedding Photography - Nick explains how shooting countless weddings can make the experience feel routine, but emphasizes the necessity of finding fresh creative approaches and engaging in personal projects for artistic fulfillment. Changing locations, experimenting with new techniques, and even switching camera systems (like using Fujifilm for personal work) can reignite passion and broaden skills.Seven Foundational Rules for Photographers - Nick outlines crucial “rules” every photographer should keep in mind. Topics include:Avoiding GAS (Gear Acquisition Syndrome) by focusing on developing skills before investing in new equipment.Developing a critical eye, always evaluating what works in your images and areas for improvement. Not expecting post-processing to “rescue” fundamentally flawed shots.Transitioning from Hobby to Business - Nick advises beginners aspiring to start a business to focus on visible, authentic self-marketing, sharing their real passion, and building community presence. Technical prowess matters, but connecting with potential clients on a personal level is equally vital.IMPORTANT DEFINITIONS & CONCEPTSGear Acquisition Syndrome (GAS): The compulsion to continually purchase new gear in hopes of improving photography, often without a concrete reason or understanding of how it will address one's actual needs. Nick stresses articulating specific problems with current gear before making a purchase.Shooting with Intention: The practice of planning or visualizing the purpose and effect of each frame—be it emotion, composition, or storytelling—instead of just “snapping” photos. This leads to more impactful and meaningful images.DISCUSSION & REFLECTION QUESTIONSHow can you maintain creative motivation when photographing the same event or venue repeatedly? What steps can you take to evaluate whether a new piece of gear is truly necessary for your photography?Reflect on a recent photo you took: What were you trying to communicate, and did your intention come through?RESOURCES:Visit Nick Church's Website - https://www.nickchurchcreativeacademy.com/Check out the Photographer Unleashed course! Here's what you'll discover in this episode: Why promoting early and often is critical to creating buzz. How long-form webinars can build authority and trust. In this episode of the Veterinary Marketing Podcast, I'm diving deep into what it really takes to run successful Facebook (Meta) ads for your veterinary practice. Over the past decade, I've managed millions of dollars in ad spend for local businesses, and I've seen firsthand how tricky Meta ads can be for vets. Unlike e-commerce, where you can track every sale, veterinary services have a much more complex path from ad click to booked appointment. That's why I'm breaking down the real-world strategies, common pitfalls, and proven tactics that actually work—so you don't waste your budget or your time. We'll start by talking about why Meta ads are uniquely challenging for veterinary practices, especially when it comes to tracking results and building the right marketing infrastructure. I'll share why organic content is absolutely essential before you ever spend a dollar on ads, and how to use Facebook and Instagram as top-of-funnel platforms to build awareness and nurture potential clients. We'll also cover the impact of iOS 14 privacy changes, how to set up tracking properly, and when Facebook ads are (and aren't) a good fit for your practice. Plus, I'll walk you through audience targeting, creative strategies, budgeting, and the importance of testing and iterating your campaigns. To bring it all together, I'll share real-world success stories from practices that have launched grand openings, promoted events, and introduced new services using Meta ads. We'll also talk about the long-term growth strategies you need—like CRM integration, email nurturing, and retargeting—to turn leads into loyal clients. By the end of this episode, you'll have a clear roadmap for using Facebook and Instagram ads effectively, with actionable steps you can start implementing right away. Whether you're just getting started or looking to take your ad campaigns to the next level, this episode is packed with insights to help your veterinary practice grow.

If you're creating hyper-specific content focused on direct selling and wondering why your posts aren't performing like they used to, you're probably skipping 2 crucial parts of your social media funnel. In today's episode, I'm breaking down something controversial: not every piece of content is meant to convert immediately! I know that sounds crazy when you're trying to grow your business, but hear me out. With how social media algorithms have evolved, the old strategy of making every post a direct pitch to your offer just isn't working anymore. I'm sharing my A-B-C framework for social funnels that's helped me build my seven-figure design agency. Most entrepreneurs are obsessing over the bottom of the funnel (conversion) while completely ignoring attraction and building content—which is why their audience isn't engaging and their sales calls aren't booking. You'll discover why your content needs to move people from audience member to follower to community member before they're ready to buy, how to create attraction content that's general enough to bring new people in but specific enough to stay relevant to your brand, and why the building phase is where most people confuse connection-building with direct selling. You don't need influencers to grow your brand in 2025—you need the right personality. In this episode of Built by Business, Andy Isom breaks down why the algorithm shift on platforms like TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube Shorts is rewarding raw, relatable content over polished influencer campaigns. We talk through why follower count doesn't matter, how to find the right people to star in your brand's content, and how low-budget, high-authenticity videos are outperforming $10K creator campaigns. If you're still hiring influencers but not getting traction, this episode will rewire how you think about content. Want us to manage this for you? Reach out at www.andyisom.com
