Episode #36: Transformation Through the Power of Surrender. Our guest this week is Lyena Strelkoff, an extraordinary motivational speaker, life coach, and storyteller. She had an accident in 2002 that changed her life forever. You would be enchanted by her personality on meeting her. We know you will be captivated as she tells her story in her own words. From a lifelong dancer to a paraplegic in an instant, most of us would call it a tragedy. For Lyena, it was an astounding experience of spiritual surrender that sustained her from that moment forward. Her story is about adversity that unleashes outstanding creative potential. It will do this for anyone who hears her speak. As her story unfolds you realize it can be applied to every challenge a human can possibly face. She realized she was holding a gift. Today, Lyena helps people recognize and open up to their own unique transformative power within. She helps people thrive, not in spite of adversity, but because of it. In yet another week of sadness, anger, traumatic events, and the feeling we’re not being heard, Lyena is a major voice for transformation through the power of surrender. We can be inspired to live our truth and open to our greatness. Lyena’s storytelling will mesmerize, inspire, comfort, and renew your motivation to discover your life purpose. We are so grateful that we can share this powerful interview with all of you. She reminds us that we are all transforming from the caterpillar into the beautiful butterfly. “Because every challenge- every loss, change, trauma, or hardship- has the power to catapult us upward. To make us bigger. Braver. Brighter. We just have to harness it.” —-Lyena Strelkoff

On October 4, 2002, Lyena Strelkoff climbed a tree while on a date in the Malibu hills. One point two seconds later, she was on the ground. She’d fallen 25 feet, broke her back, and become paraplegic. As a lifelong dancer and outdoor enthusiast, paralysis was especially catastrophic. In an instant, she had lost the things she valued most. But paralysis didn’t just change her life… It transformed it. The fall, itself, felt eternal to Lyena. "Never had I been so present, so at peace. In a moment of clarity, I understood — “Everything you need to know is happening right now.” My job was clear: Pay attention. Observe my experiences as much as living them." That shift in mindset – being curious about what was happening, instead of fighting, hiding, or giving up — set the stage for learning to relate to paralysis, rather than react. And the magic started to flow. Lyena found herself on a new path, one that revealed her purpose, redirected her career, inspired romance, built a family, and catapulted her life far beyond anything she’d imagined before. "I was thriving. And I knew it wasn’t despite paralysis. It was because of it."

In this episode, I interview Lyena Strelkoff. Lyena is a transformation coach, storyteller, and speaker passionately dedicated to advancing the way humans respond to change, challenge, and adversity. A lifelong dancer paralyzed in a hiking accident, Lyena's entire life was elevated, not in spite of paralysis but because of it. Lyena is the creator of The Shero's Way™, a modern, feminized approach to adversity that turns challenges into catalysts that catapult us upward. Lyena isn't divorced, although she does tell us the story of how her parents' divorce affected her. But I want you to listen to her story from the perspective of transformation. Listen for how Lyena transforms what could have been — should have been — the worst experience almost anyone can imagine into something full of grace and opportunity. And listen till the end where we discuss how this does NOT mean not acknowledging pain and suffering, but rather embracing all of it, the good, the bad, and the ugly.

Lyena Strelkoff is a transformation coach, storyteller, and speaker passionately dedicated to elevating the way humans respond to change, challenge, and adversity. She is a contributing essayist to the popular book Dancing at the Shame Prom and the subject of an award-winning short documentary.
