Most adults think leadership comes later. Leah Ellis proves it starts early and we're the ones getting in the way. In this episode, Leah shares how kids naturally think like entrepreneurs, why we accidentally train confidence out of them, and what happens when you stop saying "no" and start asking better questions. From kids solving real-world problems to influencing legislation, this conversation flips the script on leadership, confidence, and growth. We also dive into how adults can relearn curiosity, decision-making, and courage by watching how kids approach the world. If you're leading a team, raising kids, or just trying to think bigger again, this episode will challenge how you see leadership entirely. On Your World of Creativity, we travel around the world talking with creative practitioners who turn ideas into impact. Today we're stepping into the studio with a guest to explore what it really means to trust yourself, dismantle habits, and make braver, more embodied art. Welcome choreographer, director, educator and author … Alexandra Beller.Alexandra's Website@alexandrabellerdances on InstagramAlexandra on YouTubeAlexandra's Facebook pageLinkedIn: linkedin.com/in/alexandra-beller-0a56a57A former member of the Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company, she is now the Artistic Director of Alexandra Beller/Dances, having created more than 40 dance theater works internationally. Her teaching spans Princeton University, the Laban Institute, and residencies around the globe. In theater, she's worked Off-Broadway and regionally, with credits including Lincoln Center and A.R.T.Alexandra is currently writing two books:The Embodied Conductor (Meredith Music, 2025) andThe Anatomy of Art (Bloomsbury, 2026).Her work blends somatic practice, rigorous inquiry, and creative freedom to help artists deepen their process and unlock new possibilities.1 — The Creative Process as a Living PracticeAlexandra, you've spent decades inside the creative process — as performer, choreographer, director, and educator. What inspired you to write a book about the creative process now, and what do you hope artists take away from it?Follow-up:The Anatomy of Art reads like a field guide for creative life — part poetic meditation, part practical workbook — with chapters on Time, Space, Meaning, Relationship, Process, Material, and more. Each section offers inquiry prompts, embodiment exercises, and devising practices that help artists reconnect to their sensory intelligence and personal voice. You also weave in contributions from seminal voices like Anne Bogart and Deborah Hay, folding perspectives from across disciplines and generations into the book. Can you share how you designed The Anatomy of Art to live at that intersection of instinct and analysis — and why it felt important to create something that offers rigorous tools while still honoring the mystery of making?2 — Trust, Doubt, and Creative CourageYou speak often about trusting yourself in the creative process. That sounds simple — but it's incredibly difficult in practice. What does it really mean to trust yourself as an artist — and how do creatives actually begin to do that?Optional follow-up:What role does doubt play? Is it something to eliminate — or something to work with?3 — Structure and FreedomYou work with systems like Laban and Bartenieff — which are rigorous, structured methodologies — yet your approach is also deeply poetic and personal. How do you balance structure and freedom in your work? And more broadly, how can artists use structure without becoming constrained by it?4 — Dismantling Habits & Artistic ReinventionYou talk about dismantling habits — creatively and personally. Why is breaking creative habits so essential for growth? What happens if we don't?Follow-up:Is there a connection between the parts of ourselves we hide and the habits we form in our art?5 — Joy, Burnout & Staying PorousArtists often struggle with burnout, pressure, comparison, and the fear of not being “enough.”How can artists stay porous and brave without becoming overwhelmed? And how do we create conditions for joy — especially in careers that can feel filled with struggle?Key themes:• The body as intelligence• Trust as a practice, not a personality trait• Structure as a container for freedom• Dismantling habits to create braver work• Joy as a discipline

Jessie Krebs spent her early life escaping into the wilderness — not for adventure, but for safety. Childhood abuse, a body that didn't feel safe around people, a military career that taught her everything except how to trust herself. What the outdoors gave her was the one thing she couldn't find anywhere else: the feeling of just being a creature on the planet. In this conversation, HeatherAsh and Jessie talk about what really happens when women step into the wild — and why it's so much less about survival skills and so much more about remembering who they are. Jessie is a SERE instructor, wilderness therapy veteran, and Alone Season 9 contestant who has spent decades watching women walk into her programs with their eyes on the ground and walk out standing tall. They get into why women have been trained to see nature as dangerous, how patriarchy and fear of wilderness are the same story, what bow drill fire has to do with your emotional patterns, and why Jessie's three rules for surviving any emergency apply just as well to your life at home.Episode Highlights:How childhood sexual abuse sent Jessie outside — and why the wilderness was the only place that felt safeThe military, SERE training, and the unlikely path from introvert to instructorWhat wilderness therapy actually looks like — and what 11 years of it taught Jessie about masks, patterns, and healingWhy women arrive in Jessie's programs feeling incapable and what happens when someone puts a rope in their handsThe statistics nobody talks about: why the bear isn't what you should be afraid ofJessie's 46 days on Alone Season 9 and the TV show Braver for teensThe three survival rules that work in the backcountry and in your office: relax, signal, insulateResources & Links:Learn more about Jessie and her courses:https://www.owlsskills.com/Follow Jessie on Instagram:https://www.instagram.com/owls.skills/Meet Jessie KrebsJessie Krebs has spent her life finding her way back to the wild. One hundred episodes. In this milestone episode, Danielle Black does something she has never quite done before - she tells the full truth about where this work came from, what it has cost, and why she hasn't walked away.More than seventeen years ago, Danielle was a young mother with a 12-month-old son. She was told by a family lawyer to agree to the 50/50 care arrangements that her abusive ex was demanding. She developed C-PTSD. She kept her phone on silent for a decade because the sound of a message arriving triggered a full panic response. And through all of it, she performed 'reasonableness' - because that was what the professionals, and the system, rewarded. This episode is honest about what has changed in the Australian family law system since then. And equally honest about what hasn't.In this episode Danielle covers:What the family law system was like 17 years ago - and what it looks like nowWhy legislative change and practice change are not the same thingThe invisible architecture of what Danielle has built - and why boundaries are not a failure of dedicationWhy she didn't burn it down when she wanted toA direct message to the parent who is where she was seventeen years agoThis is not a highlight reel. What if confidence isn't something you're born with—but something you can train? In this episode of Healthy Mind, Healthy Life, hosted by Avik, we explore how mindset coaching can transform performance, leadership, and self-belief. Guest Janet Dickey, a field hockey coach with 35 years of experience, shares how she built championship teams by focusing on confidence, culture, and mental resilience. This conversation is for coaches, athletes, parents, and anyone who struggles with self-doubt or pressure. You'll hear practical tools—from mindset resets to team culture strategies—that help people show up fully, even when confidence feels shaky. About the Guest: Janet Dickey is a professional mindset coach, creator of the Build to Compete mindset blueprint, and longtime head field hockey coach at Westbrook High School. Over 35 years, she has led teams to multiple honors and built a culture centered on confidence and resilience. Episode Chapters: 00:03:39 – Why confidence is a trainable skill 00:07:34 – The turning point that changed Janet's coaching approach 00:11:07 – Confidence vs. comparison in the social media era 00:13:00 – The BRAVER mindset reset technique 00:16:11 – Turning a small team into champions 00:18:38 – Helping underperforming athletes rediscover belief 00:26:09 – A simple mantra for everyday resilience Key Takeaways: Confidence grows through practice, support, and mindset tools—not personality. YOU - The Master Entrepreneur - A Guide to True Greatness with Stan Hustad

The storm is coming. You can feel it—not just outside, but everywhere. Schools closing. Churches canceling. Flights disappearing from the board like magic tricks gone wrong. We're all being gently (or not so gently) told: stay home, stay put, stay warm. Which is exactly what I'm doing—sitting in my little radio studio, which also happens to be a television studio, a video studio, and a worldwide broadcasting station. No tower. No transmitter building. No million-dollar equipment. Just a good microphone, a decent camera, an internet connection, and a lifetime spent loving radio. I started in the kind of radio that had mystery and majesty—big towers, humming transmitters, and studios that felt like sacred ground. There was romance in it. There still is. Old radio guys even swap pictures of their favorite towers now, like proud grandparents showing photos of the grandkids. Guilty as charged. But radio has changed. And in some wonderful ways, it's come home. Now, during a snowstorm, you can sit in your own house and be on the radio. You can speak to the world from a spare bedroom, a basement, or a corner of the living room—just like I'm doing right now. And that matters, because a lot of people have something to say, something to sing, something to teach, or some wisdom worth sharing. They just needed permission and a microphone. Which brings me to the storm—and the pause it gives us. When weather forces us to slow down, it also gives us space to think. To read. To pray. To wonder a little about the life we're living… and the life we still want to live. I've made a commitment that 2026 is going to matter. I want it to be significant—for my family, my community, and the people kind enough to listen in on my life and work. And as I was sitting here waiting for the storm, seven simple words came to mind. Not fancy words. Not complicated words. Just honest ones. Here they are. Don't rush past them. Let each one ask you a question. Better. What, exactly, do you want to be better at this year? Beautiful. What do you want more of that brings beauty into your life—or that you bring into the world? Bright. Not smarter—brighter. More alive. More visible. More you. Bolder. Where have you been playing it safe when you know you're meant to step forward? Braver. What fear are you finally ready to face? Richer. Yes, maybe financially—but also richer in relationships, meaning, gratitude, and joy. Smarter… and Wiser. Not the same thing. Smarter fills your head. Wiser shapes your life. And then there's the one underneath them all: Matter. We all want to matter. We were made for meaning. We were designed to make a difference. That's not ego—that's wiring. So while the snow falls and the world quiets down a bit, maybe these seven words are worth sitting with. Let your mind talk to your heart. Let your heart speak to your future. As I often ask: Are you living the life you want—or just the life you've got? Storms have a way of clarifying things. Stay safe. Stay warm. Comfort one another. And maybe—even in the middle of the storm—find a little comfort and joy. All the best and blessings, Stan Things to Remember - Storms slow us down so reflection can catch up - You don't need a tower to have a voice - Meaning often shows up in simple words Things to Share - The seven words that resonated most with you - This question: Which one am I ignoring? - The idea that 2026 is still wide open Things to Take Note Of (and Act On) - Write the seven words down - Circle the one that scares you a little - Take one small step toward it—after the storm Snow days are good for productivity too. ❄️

In this episode, Julia speaks with Swatee Deepak about trust — taking the conversation beyond how it is built to the factors that quietly break it. Swatee works at the intersection of philanthropy, gender equality, and community building, and is the founding partner of Shake The Table.Swatee reflects on her experience convening groups of women philanthropists — many of whom arrive already cautious and guarded — and why trust cannot survive without clarity. When people feel unclear about purpose, expectations, or what the exchange really is, trust begins to erode. She introduces the idea of friendship as method — an ethic grounded in mutuality, shared responsibility, and human connection. Trust, she explains, weakens when communities become centred on the convenor, when power is misused, or when transparency gives way to cleverness. The conversation names the moments where trust fractures: when people feel used, manipulated, unrecognised, or unvalidated. When surprises replace honesty. When boundaries blur. When humility disappears. This episode is a reminder that trust rarely breaks in one dramatic moment. More often, it breaks in small, avoidable ways — and it is the work of the leader to notice them before it is too late.About the Guest: Swatee Deepak works at the intersection of philanthropy, gender equality, academia, the arts and community building. She is the founding partner of Shake The Table and Closer Than You Think, Co-Chair of the Global Fund for Children and EMpower – The Emerging Markets Foundation, Advisory member of the L'Oreal Fund for Women and a Senior Visiting Fellow at the Marshall Institute at the London School of Economics. Across her work, from advising governments, corporations, foundations and families of wealth to co-founding initiatives that centre solidarity and shared power. Swatee brings a deep commitment to creating communities rooted in trust, mutuality, and integrity.

In this episode of The Cycling Europe Podcast, we talk to Claire Davies, former diplomat, cyclist and writer. She chats about her journey along LEJOG and her 'end-to-end' cycles around Europe. "Are you braver than you think? That's the question Claire Davies began asking herself as she cycled from Land's End to John O'Groats, ill-prepared, unsupported and alone. At a mid-life low point, craving space and time to think, or not to think, Claire decided that a long bicycle ride was what she needed. Setting off for Scotland just a few weeks later, on a bike named Trixie, guided by a gadget called Guillaume, she had little idea what she was letting herself in for. It turned out to be a journey not only to better physical fitness and mental health, but also to empowerment and self-discovery, partly through the eyes of the people she met along the way."

Fear rarely looks like fear. It shows up as hesitation, overthinking, or waiting for "the right time." And for many independent retailers, it quietly becomes the biggest barrier to profit. In this episode, Kathy shares the true story of a high-revenue store owner whose business looked successful on the outside but struggled to profit behind the scenes. Together they uncovered the real issue holding her back. It wasn't her systems, her margins, or her traffic. It was fear shaping her decisions. You'll hear how fear sneaks into pricing, hiring, buying, marketing, and even everyday leadership choices, along with the small, brave shifts that began turning everything around. This conversation will help you see where fear might be influencing your business too, and how courage creates more clarity, more momentum, and more profit in the year ahead. We thought we'd try something new for us this year and make some time after Christmas to reflect on and share our Soulhub year, but also discuss how we would like to step into 2026. As you'll hear, we've been really stripping back and feeling into what we love to do, and what brings us the most joy. To be honest its a continuous practice of finding ones alignment and balance of energy in and out. There's never a line to step over from one year to the next, it's an eternal continuum. That said, we are very much looking forward to jumping into 2026 with enthusiasm and commitment to our intentions and at the same time allowing space for flow and spontaneity too. The very ritual of stepping into the podcast studio to honour ourselves and those who've supported us in a variety of ways, has been important and timely for us. We all too often are just in pursuit of the “next-thing”, whatever that maybe, and do not take a pause to appreciate what we have achieved and those that have helped us to do it. We sincerely apologise that not everyone gets a personal reference. But it would take the whole hour just naming everyone who in whatever way blesses our lives. YOUR TURN….If this is something which you don't normally do either, or you fancy giving it a go this year, we've outlined below our initial framework for you. * What 3 words would describe your 2025, and why?* What has been your highlights of 2025?* What has been your challenges and biggest learnings?* Who / what has inspired you this year?* Book* Mantra* Person* Place* What exciting things did you discover?* What gave you energy and what drained you?* What 2025 project felt the most alive in you?* Who or what are you grateful for?* What most excites you about 2026?* What are you keeping, letting go and changing in 2026?* What dreams would you like to manifest?22 QUICK FIRE ROUND:We did some of these live on the podcast. It's no surprise that Nicola Willis has pushed out surplus by another year. That now makes it three years in two years, as in she has delayed surplus by three years in just the space of the two years she's been at the Finance Minister's desk. Had she kept her pledge, the one she made about tidying up this country's books when asking for our votes in 2023, we would be seeing a surplus next year. Now it's 2029 at the earliest. Getting our books back in order is important if we don't want our kids to pack up and leave for Australia when they're old enough to. Nicola can blame everyone from Treasury to Trump if she wants, but she has not done enough to get us back to surplus. She has defended, and kept, Jacinda's wasteful policy of paying for one free year for university students. The policy has been repeatedly criticised as a flop that doesn't actually make anyone go to university. Cutting that would save us in the vicinity of $1 billion over four years. She has given welfare to households on more than $200,000 a year by giving them money for childcare. People on that kind of coin don't need benefits. Cutting that would save $1 billion in a little over five years. She still hasn't cut or income tested the Winter Energy Payment, which is going to people who are still in the workforce and being set aside for nice trips to Fiji. Cutting that would save $1 billion in less than two years. Trimming it would save less, but it would save something. She has cut 2000 public servants when Grant and Jacinda added 14,000. Be in no doubt - money is tight. But there is still a lot of waste that could be cut if Nicola Willis was brave enough. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Terminal Value

In this conversation with entrepreneur and outsourcing leader Carmen Williams, we unpack the moment she walked into work, felt a physical “no” in her stomach, and quit her job that same day. No plan, no runway, no strategy deck—just bravery born from clarity. This episode isn't about hustle culture. It's about permission—to pivot, to shrink your life, to rebuild your identity, and to stop performing your way into burnout. We explore why corporate stability is an illusion, why minimalism creates freedom, how virtual teams scale your capacity, and why the “first hire fantasy” founders chase is usually wrong. We also talk about life after collapse—the rebirth that happens when you stop clinging to the version of yourself that was built to survive, not thrive. No hype. Just the quiet courage of starting over.TL;DR* The brave pivot: Carmen quit her job in one day after realizing life is short and fear is expensive.* Job security is riskier than entrepreneurship: One employer = one point of failure.* Minimalism is leverage: Less stuff, lower burn rate, fewer emergencies.* Founders hire the wrong “clone”: You don't need another visionary—you need a steady executor.* AI + VAs is the winning combo: AI increases the demand for great operators; it doesn't replace them (yet).* Saying “no” builds more trust than yes: Filtering clients improves ROI and reputation. What we unpack1. The moment you stop pretending you have timeCarmen's turning point came when her mother was diagnosed with a terminal illness—20 years older than her. Mortality compresses priorities. She realized: “If I knew I had 20 years left, would I stay here?”Her answer was a clean no.2. The illusion of corporate safetyDoug reflects on climbing into bigger houses and bigger bills—only to realize everything you own also owns a piece of you.Entrepreneurs face volatility monthly.Employees face catastrophe suddenly.Pick your pain.3. Minimalism as a business strategyDoug downsized from 3,800 sq ft → 560 sq ft.Less space. Fewer things. More intention. The easy life is the one with fewer dependencies.4. Why founders hire the wrong personalityEntrepreneurs imagine a “mini-me” assistant—someone spontaneous, creative, high-initiative.What they need is the opposite:A detail-driven operator who finishes what the founder starts.5. How Carmen accidentally built a 100-person outsourcing companyShe hired VAs for her own consulting practice.People kept asking for help. She kept saying no—until the market refused to let her.No website. No pitch deck. Twenty VAs anyway.6. Why AI doesn't replace VAs—it amplifies themHer teams use AI as a force multiplier, not a threat.Training loops, outside experts, and self-directed learning have made her VAs more valuable—not redundant.Memorable lines* “If you only have one income stream, you don't have stability—you have a trap.”* “Minimalism isn't aesthetic. It's leverage.”* “Your first hire shouldn't be you—it should be your opposite.”* “The day you stop pretending you have time is the day you become brave.”* “AI doesn't replace people. It replaces excuses.”GuestCarmen Williams — Founder & CEO of a global outsourcing agency supporting 100+ virtual assistants across multiple industries. Known for helping entrepreneurs scale through operational discipline, delegation frameworks, and mindset shifts around capacity and courage.LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/carmenwilliamsau/Website: https://globalteams.com.au/Why this mattersIf you want your second life to work, you can't drag your first-life habits with you. That means:* lower burn rate* fewer possessions* more clarity* better support* braver decisions* honest self-assessmentYou can't rebuild while holding onto the version of yourself that burned out.Call to ActionIf this conversation lit something up for you, don't just let it fade. We take kids on a tour around the Daystar house, they get to meet the dogs, we get them a snack, and we sit down to talk. We meet with their parents at a later point. During my time with just the kid, I love to not look at the paperwork, which would inform where they would fall in birth order and try and make a guess.  I don't want to brag on myself, but I'm going to say that I have a pretty high percentage. I have a strong batting average in that space. I think it's the reality of us having done this work for a lot of decades. Knowing so many of the things we're about to talk about with birth order and seeing little lumps as watching where kids may drop some crumbs, that's really fun to do.
