Sexier Than A Squirrel: Dog Training That Gets Real Life Results
Send us a textEver wondered how something as simple as a hula hoop could transform your dog's confidence? This game-changing episode reveals the science and magic behind "confidence hoops" training.Lauren and Jamie unpack why this accessible training method works for dogs of all ages and personality types - from nervous rescues to boisterous puppies, senior dogs with mobility issues to high-drive sport prospects. You'll discover how giving dogs control over movement and noise helps them develop profound confidence that transfers to real-world challenges. The beauty of confidence hoops lies in their simplicity. Starting with inexpensive supermarket hula hoops (just £1-2), you can create engaging games that build mental resilience, physical coordination, and emotional stability. Learn about crowd favorites like "hoop dive" where dogs push through hoops themselves, creating a sense of agency that anxious dogs often lack in triggering situations. What sets this training approach apart is how it allows dogs to lead their own learning journey. When dogs partner with you to solve problems rather than simply following commands, they develop flexible thinking and adaptability. This dynamic shift creates confident companions who approach new challenges with enthusiasm rather than apprehension.Whether you're struggling with a reactive dog, want to build your puppy's environmental confidence, or simply need to add some no-pressure fun to your training routine, confidence hoops offers accessible entry points for every human-dog team. The portable nature of hoops means you can practice anywhere, helping dogs generalize their skills across different environments.Ready to transform your dog's confidence through play? What makes a truly unforgettable literary villain? According to bestselling thriller author Gary Braver, it's not mustache-twirling evil, but rather those "sweet smelling reasons" that justify their actions in their minds. Drawing from over four decades of teaching creative writing and penning critically acclaimed mysteries, Braver takes us behind the curtain of compelling thriller construction.Braver's latest novel, "Rumor of Evil," follows two Cambridge homicide detectives investigating a suspicious death that connects to the cold case of a Romani exchange student who perished in a treehouse fire.Inspired by the infamous Slenderman case, the story explores how destructive rumors, prejudice, and superstition can have deadly consequences—themes that resonate powerfully in today's climate of misinformation. For writers seeking to master the mystery genre, Braver offers an architectural approach: study successful novels like a carpenter examines a house. Notice how authors craft cliffhanger chapter endings that keep readers awake at night, balance action scenes with reflective moments, and create dialogue that distinguishes characters without attribution tags. This technical dissection of craft transforms passive reading into active learning.Whether you're a fiction writer seeking to strengthen your villains, a mystery lover curious about the mechanics behind your favorite thrillers, or fascinated by how stories are crafted, this episode delivers invaluable insights from a master of the genre. How will you apply Braver's architectural approach to your next reading or writing experience?Have a comment? But making mistakes is part of the process. The speaker shares that their journey began with the fear of saying the wrong thing—but instead of holding back, that fear became a catalyst to take action. The message is clear: young people aren't expecting perfection; they're looking for honesty, effort, and growth. The worst mistake is doing nothing at all. Now more than ever, we need to create safe spaces for youth to talk openly about the world around them, especially on topics once considered taboo. If we don't start these crucial conversations now, we risk missing the chance entirely. Volatility doesn't seem to be scaring off Kiwi investors—could it be teaching us new strategies? In this bonus clip, Susannah Batley from Sharesies & Paul McBeth (The Bottom Line) discuss how investors are adapting to market turbulence by shifting toward ETFs and diversified funds rather than retreating. Does traditional index investing still provide true diversification when a handful of tech giants dominate returns? Could we be seeing a psychological shift with today's retail investors seeing market fluctuations as simply "the price of investing." Have you ever thought bravery was something some people were just born with? That it only shows up during a crisis - or that it's not really relevant to your everyday life or work? My guest on this episode of The Ambitious Introvert® is here to challenge all of that!Jim Moorhead is a keynote speaker, bestselling author, and trusted advisor to Fortune 500 companies. Drawing from his background as an Assistant U.S. Attorney, investment banker at Goldman Sachs, and law firm partner, he's developed a powerful framework for building and modeling bravery - both personally and organizationally. His book, The Instant Survivor: Right Ways to Respond When Things Go Wrong, is a go-to guide for responding to adversity with grounded, intentional action. In this episode, Jim breaks down the biggest myths around bravery, how leaders and teams can cultivate it (yes, it's learnable!), and why consistent small brave actions matter far more than one-off heroics. Whether you're leading a business, working in a team, or simply trying to show up more fully for yourself, you'll take something away from this conversation.Tune in to hear:Bravery isn't innate - it's a skill you can build over timeMisconceptions about bravery that are holding people and companies backHow companies that talk about, model, and reward bravery create space for innovationWhy naming and celebrating bravery helps reinforce it across teams and culturesWays to be brave every single day - no crisis required! If you've ever told yourself you're "just not brave", this episode is your invitation to rethink that entirely.LINKS AND RESOURCES:

“I worked at Levi's for 23 years, worked my way all the way up the ladder from entry-level marketing assistant to brand president.”“I needed to build a factory. And I didn't have two nickels to rub together or a bucket to piss in but I did have a singleness of purpose to course-correct this thing.”“We were very different when we first came out and all the other brands looked exactly the same.”Entrepreneurs don't just start businesses; they start revolutions. Founders are driven by a deep sense of purpose, an almost reckless determination to build something that doesn't yet exist. Unlike traditional CEOs who inherit an established structure, founders have to make every decision, carry every risk, and fight through uncertainty with nothing but conviction. The difference? Founders break the rules to create new ones, while CEOs operate within the system to maximize efficiency.Today's guests prove that true leadership requires courage. From launching brands that challenge industry norms to rebuilding domestic manufacturing from the ground up, these founders have faced rejection, controversy, and even financial ruin to stay true to their mission. They share stories of taking radical risks, navigating cancel culture, and making decisions that CEOs in corporate boardrooms would never dare to make. The lesson? Bravery in business isn't optional—it's the cost of true innovation.Jen Sey: Former Levi's President turned founder of XX-XY Athletics, a brand challenging cultural norms and championing women's sports.Pete Roberts: Founder of Origin USA, a company reviving American manufacturing through relentless grit and self-funded growth.Michelle Watson: Founder of MICHI, redefining activewear for women over 40 by prioritizing longevity, strength, and purpose-driven design.Visit https://www.eCircleAcademy.com and book a success call with Nicky to take your practice to the next level.

Ceri examines how to liberate creative authenticity by offering ideas for artists who feel creatively blocked. She shares five actionable methods to escape creative paralysis and embrace your unique artistic voice. Ceri also provides examples from pioneering artists like Lindsey Mendick and Laure Prouvost, who dared to be different, and suggests exercises for practising these five ways to be bolder, braver, and weirder in your art. KEY TAKEAWAYS Bland is Boring – Stop Playing It Safe. If you don’t take risks, your work blends into the wallpaper of creative mediocrity. Push the thing that makes you Absurdity Unlocks Confidence. You don't have to make absurd, bonkers work but you do have to let yourself be surprised. Injecting a bit of the unexpected forces you into fresh territory—and that's where your best expression is waiting. Authenticity Attracts Your People. Stop second-guessing whether people will “like” your work. That’s not the goal. The goal is to make something only you could make. Embracing Mistakes Enhances Creativity. The fear of making mistakes is far more dangerous to your creativity than any actual mistake. If you’re constantly trying to avoid failure, you’ll never push your work into truly interesting, original territory. Trust Your Intuition. Overanalysing kills creative momentum. BEST MOMENTS “With AI churning out generic mush and tech pushing us towards sameness, what we need now is your gloriously weird, hyper-specific, totally you take on things.” “Playing it safe leads to forgettable work” “You don’t need everyone to love your work. You need your people to love it. The ones who get it.” “Your intuition is always talking to you. The trick is learning to hear and, more importantly, learning to trust it.” EPISODE RESOURCES PODCAST HOST BIO With over 30 years in the art world, Ceri has worked closely with leading artists and arts professionals, managed public and private galleries and charities, and curated more than 250 exhibitions and events. Senior Pastor Tony Foreman from First Baptist Church of Williamstown continues his series in the book of Daniel – this week from chapter 8 – titled The Supernatural.
On this episode of Chasing Leviathan, PJ and Dr. Lee Braver delve into the philosophy of Martin Heidegger, focusing on his views on thinking, the evolution of his ideas, and the significance of wonder and dwelling in philosophical inquiry. They explore the relationship between courage and confronting nihilism, the nature of questions, and the limits of explanation, ultimately emphasizing the interplay between existence and nothingness. In this conversation, Dr. Braver explores the philosophical themes of nothingness, dwelling, and the nature of thinking as a craft. He discusses how our experience of the world is intertwined with nothingness and challenges the prejudices surrounding existence. The conversation culminates in a discussion about Heidegger's evolving philosophy and the significance of staying with things to uncover deeper meanings.Make sure to check out Dr. Braver's book: Heidegger on Thinking (Elements in the Philosophy of Martin Heidegger)
In the 2024 election, it was clearer than ever that Americans are “watching different movies,” as political analyst Van Jones put it. Essentially, we're living inside different narratives that aren't of our own making. During this campaign season more than ever before, the presidential and VP candidates appeared on sympathetic podcasts as a way to appeal to younger voters. As a podcaster, journalist, and Senior Fellow for Public Practice at Braver Angels, a nonprofit working to depolarize America, guest Mónica Guzmán is an ideal voice to help us make sense of what happened, and provide some helpful perspective. On her podcast A Braver Way, Guzmán is joined by guests from across the political spectrum to unearth tools, insights, and messy real life stories that can guide listeners over the divide in their everyday lives. She says that Americans are being hurt by misinformation not only about facts, but also “misinformation about what's in the hearts of other people.” On this episode you'll hear a few clips from A Braver Way – including from a conversation Guzmán, a political "blue" recorded with her parents – who voted for Donald Trump. If your family is politically divided, you'll definitely want to listen to this in time for Thanksgiving! Are you fed up with politics and especially the presidential campaign? On How Do We Fix It? we're reporting on the people, projects and ideas of Braver Angels. This nationwide citizen-led movement is a growing coalition of liberals and conservatives working to restore hope and co-operation to our politics. In this episode we speak with a second pair of Red-Blue volunteers who will be working together and meeting voters outside a polling site on November 5th. It's all part of the nationwide Election Day Initiative. Our guests are Elizabeth Doll and Don Goldberg. On election day, they will be outside King County Election HQ in Renton, Washington."The other is not necessarily the enemy", Don tells us. "They just happen to be another side." Elizabeth agrees and hopes that one result of the Initiative is that Americans "recognize people can be friends... talk about politics with each other, disagree about politics, and still be in relationship with each other."Elizabeth Doll is Director of Braver Politics at Braver Angels. She's been a volunteer, and a consultant for political campaigns in the Pacific NorthWest. Don Goldberg is a writer and political social satirist who now helps transcribe the podcast, "A Braver Way".This episode is a reminder that America's voting system differs across the country. Washington state votes by mail. All voters receive paper ballots. They put them in drop boxes, or hand in their ballots to the local county elections department on or before election day. You can find out more about the Election Day Initiative on the Braver angels dot org web site. Braver Angels also have local in-person and online events all across the country. Look for one at the "Find an Event" prompt here. This show was put together with help of the production team at "A Braver Way", a podcast about how Americans of all viewpoints can disagree about politics without losing heart. Thanks to their team David Albright, Jessica Jones and show host Moni Guzman. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
It is a brave thing to be a human. Mostly because, as long as we are alive, we are each under the constant scrutiny and criticism of our own brains. And no matter what we do, it seems like we're never good enough to quiet its relentless disparagement. Recently I have had a few experiences that reminded me how vulnerable and scary it is to stand up to you brain and its criticism, and how many incredible experiences are available to us if we do. In today's podcast episode, I'm sharing a few thoughts about how all of our brains want to make us scared and insecure and just how much bravery it takes to feel that and create the things you want anyway. I hope these thoughts will give you comfort and motivation, help you be a little braver, and allow you to be a little more compassionate with yourself and others as you do the brave work of being human.

Broadcasting legend Adam Boulton has, over forty years as a journalist, seen the media's relationship with politics disintegrate. In the episode, he tells the Matts where things started to go wrong, what puzzles him about Starmer's apparent fear of upsettting the right, and why an entire generation no longer understands the difference between news and opinion. It's an engrossing, illuminating listen from one of the most thoughtful and experienced broadcasters this country has ever produced. Enjoy!Love this? Then you'll love The New European. For the past dozen or so years, I've had a weekly conversation with my old friend Howie Klein who blogs at DownWithTyranny.com and runs the Blue America PAC, identifying and supporting progressive candidates up and down the ballot all over the country. Howie returns today and brings with him a young candidate running for the Florida state senate, Ben Braver. He's @BenBraverFL on social media, and his website is BenBraver.org. A quick online search tells me that Ben Braver is something of a super hero. We'll get to the bottom of that today. Plus the some news, magat character flaws and, hopefully, a few laughs along the way.
Kelly shares an episode of a podcast she loves called A Braver Way which is hosted by friends of Kelly Corrigan Wonders, Mónica Guzmán and April Lawson. Is it the facts that get in the way in our politics, or our stories? Baratunde Thurston is a renowned comedian, activist, and PBS host who knows a lot about how the stories we tell about ourselves can either unlock our civic power... or make us forget we even have it. We'll zoom in on two unforgettable times Baratunde crossed big divides and what those clashes can teach us, and we'll hear his four pillars of “how to citizen” — as a verb, not a noun — to help us wield that power daily. Then Monica and April close us out with a clash of their own, unleashing their own stories about citizenship to see where their different politics lead them to think differently about the concept and the many issues that surround it.Credits: Host: Mónica Guzmán Senior Producer & Editor: David Albright Producer: Jessica Jones Contributor: April Lawson Artist in Residence: Gangstagrass. This summer series has been all about how to study the Bible, but today we’re not just talking about the "how"—we're delving into the "why". Why do we study God's Word? What does it do for us? As I read through Psalm 119, I was overwhelmed by how God's Word equips us, especially in our weakest moments. If you've ever felt self-doubt, lack of confidence, or anxiety about sharing your faith, you are not alone. I feel the same way sometimes. But this passage reminds us that God’s steadfast love and promises are our strength. We can be bold and brave in our faith because of His Word. We’ll explore how trusting in His Word empowers us to face any challenge, whether it's a taunt from an adversary or a moment of self-doubt.

Jack Rooke is the recent BAFTA winning comic genius behind the incredible multi award winning sitcom Big Boys. Jack won his BAFTA for Best Comedy Writer after using his own life experience of losing his Dad, when Jack was 15, to write and narrate Big Boys. The show follows Jack leaving his mum to go to University where he navigates making new friends and exploring being gay, something he hasn't told his mum yet. Big Boys was adapted from Jack's debut show Good Grief and his second show Happy Hour which was commissioned by Soho Theatre. Both received critical acclaim at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. He's also had a documentary on BBC 3 called Happy Man exploring alternatives to the male mental health crisis and published a memoir called Cheer the F**k Up. His work is both hilarious and sad with smart, spit your drink out laughing moments. This conversation is no exception. Now 30, Jack talks about success in your 20s, what losing a parent so young does to someone, how his grief has changed, why humour is so important to him and, in his opinion, in all life situations, Big Boys being seen as radical and new tattoos.
