The Madames are on a season break, so they stole a Tempad from the TVA to bring you their full commentary series on Season 1 of Daredevil. As far as they're concerned, it's one of the few good reasons to head back to 2020. And it's a great refresher just in case Matt Murdock pops up in Spider-Man: No Way Home. Following the Battle of New York in The Avengers, we enter the dark, seedy world of Hell's Kitchen. Matt Murdock is a freshly sworn lawyer by day and a masked vigilante by night. He also happens to be blind - kind of. Matt & his long-suffering legal partner, Foggy Nelson, get embroiled in a fishy murder case involving Karen Page. She's being targeted by her employer, Union Allied, the corporate big bad of this season. Several attempts are made on Karen's life, but the “devil of Hell's Kitchen” saves her, and Karen exposes a major Union Allied scandal. Matt & Foggy hire a very grateful Karen as the secretary at their fledgling law firm, Nelson & Murdock. For now, Foggy and Karen are both unaware of Matt's part-time ninja job and superish sensory powers. Daredevil is the launch point for the Netflix universe of Marvel shows. It stars Charlie Cox, Elden Henson, Deborah Ann Woll, Vincent D'onofrio, Toby Leonard Moore, Vondie Curtis-Hall, Ayelet Zurer, Bob Gunton, & Rosario Dawson. With her third "Shat The Movies" commission, listener Lisa triggered some really dark memories and icky feelings from Ash, Big D, and Gene. To say reviewing Larry Clark's "Kids" was difficult would be an understatement. But we're glad we did because watching this landmark independent film reminded us it's just as disturbing now as it was in 1995. Chloe Sevigny, Rosario Dawson, and Leo Fitzpatrick turned our guts inside-out in their film debuts. But did Harmony Korine write the story he'd been waiting to tell all his life, or is this just a movie meant to scare suburban moms? In this episode, we discuss rolling blunts, which drugs can actually ruin your life, the '90s HIV scare, how kids actually talk, why we were pulling for Casper, and whether teen girls are victims or young adults exercising their agency. Shang-Chi earned a total of $34.7 million domestically according to Box Office Mojo in its second box office weekend falling only 54% from it's premiere weekend. Shang-Chi has now earned $144.5M domestically and $259M worldwide. In comparison Black Widow fell 68% in its second box office weekend but benefited from a healthy $60M from Disney+ premiere sales in its premiere weekend. Other Disney second-weekend drops have been varied, with “Jungle Cruise” shedding 55%, “Cruella” 49% and “Free Guy” 35%. Universal's “F9,” another pandemic box office success, opened to $70 million in June and dropped 57% to $30.1 million in its second frame. Pre-pandemic Marvel releases have traditionally held well in their second weekends: “Avengers: Endgame” declined by 59%, “Captain Marvel” by 56%, “Thor: Ragnarok” by 54%, “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" by 56%, “Doctor Strange” by 50% and “Ant-Man” by 57%. “Black Panther” enjoyed the most slight second-weekend drop in 2018, with just 45% after opening to a massive $202 million over Presidents Day weekend. The strength of Shang-Chi's Labor Day weekend opening seems to have inspired Disney to commit to debuting its remaining theatrical releases exclusively in theaters for the rest of the year, including Marvel Studios' Eternals. Disney announced that the rest of its domestic release slate for the year will honor a theatrical window ranging from a minimum of 30-45 days per film although the 30 day window only applies to Encanto according to the exclusive reported by Variety. The term “minimum” seems to point to the fact that Disney could extend that 30-45 day window should they prove to be hits and there is an audience to attend in person. Marvel Announces Four Unknown Films Scheduled for 2024 https://collider.com/new-marvel-movies-coming-in-2024/ Walt Disney Studios has updated its upcoming release schedule, which now includes four untitled Marvel films dated for 2024. These include newly announced films scheduled for February 16th, May 3rd, July 26th, and November 8th. Marvel has previously announced all of its movies on the way through Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, scheduled for May 5, 2023. After Guardians, there are still three other untitled Marvel films planned for the year, however, the addition of four more unknown Marvel films in 2024 and their release dates is entirely new. Possible films to fill those slots that are currently in development and without a known release schedule include Fantastic Four Deadpool 3 Blade Avengers-Level Team up to end the phase (not confirmed in development) Could be linked to Russo Brothers story from last week Captain America Sequel Possible X-Men MCU – Non-Marvel Studios Sony Won't Send Any Major Blockbusters Directly to Streaming Platforms https://www.cbr.com/sony-no-major-films-to-streaming/ Sony Pictures Entertainment CEO Tony Vinciquerra is insisting Spider-Man: Far From Home, Venom: Let There Be Carnage and other blockbusters will retain their theater exclusivity window and not go straight-to-streaming. "There is a higher bar theatrically to get films into theaters so you will probably not see as many films going directly to theaters," Vinciquerra said during a media conference. He conceded that some of Sony's smaller films might not be viable for theatrical release in the current climate but promised, "We have about 12 to 15 major films a year distributed to theaters and will do the same going forward." Vinciquerra pointed out the rise in piracy rates since other studios decided to implement day-and-date streaming releases, labeling it "a big concern" moving forward. The executive noted that Sony is in a unique position as it does not have a streaming service of its own, instead acting as an "arms dealer" in the ongoing streaming wars, able to put its content up for auction. He was quick to clarify, "But you won't see our major films go that way." Sony recently changed the name of its Spider-Man franchise from the Sony Universe of Marvel Characters to Sony's Spider-Man Universe, suggesting it has larger plans for the web-slinger moving forward. With rumors hinting at a live-action Spider-Verse crossover, the upcoming Spider-Man: No Way Home could potentially bridge the gap between Sony's animated and live-action Spider-Man franchises by incorporating Miles Morales. Disney+ Marvel Studios' Hawkeye Official Trailer https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5VYb3B1ETlk What If…? Writer Regrets One Thing About Doctor Strange Episode https://screenrant.com/what-if-doctor-strange-episode-4-writer-regret/ "When you're writing animation, you're writing so far into the future that you can't think four years down the line. That Doctor Strange episode, I wrote in February of 2019. I think I should've called it a Nexus Point instead of an Absolute Point. The Loki scripts weren't even written yet, so that animatic locked before Loki even finished their scripts because you're always writing about two years ahead of animation. It's kind of intense and insane." Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D./Agent Carter Hayley Atwell to Voice Lara Croft in Netflix's ‘Tomb Raider' Anime Series https://variety.com/2021/tv/news/hayley-atwell-anime-tomb-raider-lara-croft-casting-netflix-1235062859/ Hayley Atwell has been cast in Netflix and Legendary Television's upcoming “Tomb Raider” anime series. Atwell will voice the franchise hero, Lara Croft, in the new series based on Square Enix's iconic game. This upcoming series marks the character's anime debut. The story will pick up after the events of the “Tomb Raider” video-game reboot trilogy, charting a new adventure (in new territory) for the globetrotting Lara Croft 25 years after her first game launched. Atwell is best known for portraying Peggy Carter across the Marvel universe, in such films as “Captain America: The First Avenger,” “Captain America: The Winter Soldier,” “Avengers: Age of Ultron,” “Ant-Man” And “Avengers: Endgame,” as well as in her own TV series “Marvel's Agent Carter.” Her other live-action credits include “Conviction,” “Criminal U.K.” and “Howards End” for TV and “Brideshead Revisited,” “The Duchess,” “Christopher Robin” and “Blinded by the Light” in film. Up next she can be seen in the highly-anticipated “Mission: Impossible 7” opposite Tom Cruise. Netflix Defenders Rosario Dawson Books A Room In Disney's ‘Haunted Mansion' Movie https://deadline.com/2021/09/rosario-dawson-haunted-mansion-movie-casting-1234828943/ Rosario Dawson has been set to join LaKeith Stanfield and Tiffany Haddish in Haunted Mansion, Disney's latest live-action film based on one of its theme park attractions. Justin Simien is directing a script from Katie Dippold, and the pic, which also recently added Owen Wilson to the cast, is now gearing up to begin shooting next month. Today's episode includes: Warner Bros. released the trailer of The Matrix Resurrections Epic Games is selling their animated short Bug Therapy at TIFF Nickelodeon president Brian Robbins in talks to become the head of Paramount Pictures Disney will start releasing movies like Eternals and Encanto exclusively in theaters Owen Wilson and Rosario Dawson join the cast of The Haunted Mansion reboot
Welcome to the Enchanted Ears Podcast, where we talk about anything and everything Disney! This week we be re-Imagineering the Hollywood studios, but first, Disney News! The new Creation Shop and Club Cool will be opening in EPCOT this week on September 15! Expedition Everest will be closed for extended refurbishment for 3 months starting in January. And finally, we got some additional casting for Haunted Mansion: Owen Wilson and Rosario Dawson. We are so excited to share with you how we'd re-Imagineer the Hollywood Studios. Fresh slate, money's no object. Hollywood Studios is a nice park that is no longer cohesive, so we completely revamp it putting the idea of history and Hollywood at its heart. We even go as far as to change the layout of the park. Some of our ideas include fixing Galaxy's Edge and changing Toy Story Land to be more of a Pixar Land. Then we add a Marvel Land, Fox Land, and an old Hollywood area. We also have ideas for new eateries and experiences that would make this more of a full-day park! And seriously Disney, if you'd like to hire us full time or as consultants, we'd be more than willing to give you ideas (or you can just listen to this podcast where we give them to you for free). Thank you so much for listening! Have a magical week! Check us out on Facebook and Youtube or submit a question/topic for us to discuss on a future episode or support us on Patreon.

After leaving us the other morning for his "Real Friends", Quad returns for good. While walking the trail of tears, he got lost in a world of Schmigadoon (or something like that on AppleTV) and realizes his true strength on the show is not his TV/Move knowledge. Neighbor Cole Geeks out about more Alone on Hulu, America's Forgotten Heroes, a podcast that you can't watch, but you can (and must) listen to, and teases something about he and codename Lady Charmin before bringing a Sling Blade to our Weekly Watch Party. Ginger is kind of Meh about Suicide Squad and Jungle Cruise, but comes around through conversation. He's not excited about the Addams Family casting in Netflix's 'Wednesday' series coming from Tim Burton for various reasons. We wrap the show up with talk about the trailers for Hulu's upcoming mini-series, Dopesick, starring Michael Keaton and Rosario Dawson. Cole almost screams himself out of his chair during the first 30 seconds of HBOmax's Malignant, and Quad is coming to terms with his feelings about women kicking butt after watching the trailer for Netflix's upcoming Kate.

Geek Girl in the News looks at the awesome or not so awesome news that will make you go either: "YAY" or "OMG I can't believe that." The latest and greatest geek girl news from May 2021 covers Gen Z being badass, celebrity struggles with mental health, snowflake gamers and the male gaze, an update on the Rosario Dawson anti-trans lawsuit, and some good news from Twitch! We start by celebrating the incredibly talented Madisen Cordell who won an Amazon scholorship to pursue computer science.... after starting to learn it only last summer! This story is so wholesome and inspiring; Madisen, you'll go so far!! Congratulations! Then we're talking about the newest grrl riot punk band: The Linda Lindas. These tweens took a racist, sexist comment from a boy in their class and wrote the literal baddest assiest song about it. Ever. RACIST SEXIST BOY!!! We stan you, Linda Lindas!! Keep it coming! Next, we're talking about Naomi Osaka's statement and eventual withdrawal from the French Open due to her mental health. She decided it was in the interest of her mental health not to participate in post-tournament interviews, but the archaic tennis federation rules deemed it appropriate to issue a $15k fine. Seriously? Mental health before all else! We're proud of you, Naomi! And hope you kick collaborative ass in changing the rules! And it's not just women who are opening up about their mental health problems. Even male celebrity faves like Ryan Reynolds who seemingly have it ALL can and do struggle with mental health issues. It's so, so, so important for straight, cis, white men to open up about their mental health issues in order to combat the stigma of mental health. Thank you, Ryan! Then we have a bit of a laugh about the absolute snowflake of a gamer who decided that Aloy, in the sequel to Horizon Zero Dawn, looks too masculine. Um, fuck away off and get in the sea! With an update to a past geek girl in the news episode, courts have dismissed the anti-trans assault lawsuit against Rosario Dawson. This is really a lose-lose situation. Either accusor Dedrek Finley is lying and caused some irreparable damage to Dawson's career and the validity of anti-trans assault, or Dawson is lying and used her fame and finances to make the situation go away. Well fuck. But in some excellent news, Twitch has finally - finally - given us 350 new identity tags on the gaming platform! The long-anticipated trans tag is here! And along with it are tags about sexuality, gender, race, nationality, disability, and more. THANK YOU TWITCH. And maybe in some even more unprecedented updates... Twitch apologised for getting this wrong, stating that they really should have done this sooner. What do YOU think about these news stories? We'd love your take! In the first of a four-part documentary series, the filmmakers shine a light on the shortcomings of the industrialized educational system, highlighting the story of Mackenzie, a 17-year-old high school student who feels like she has been reduced to a number and a test score. While Mackenzie's story is personal, it is by no means unique. Around the country, students are struggling to find their purpose in a system bent on conformity—and the problem has only gotten worse since COVID-19. For nearly a year, millions of children have been locked out their classrooms, without access to high-quality education. Meanwhile, parents have tried to step in and fill a void that, until now, has put the onus of education squarely on schools. Until 125 years ago, learning took place in the world, not solely in the classroom. That changed with the industrial revolution. With or without a global pandemic, the currency of the modern world is innovative, creative thinking—not rote memorization—and most public-school systems simply aren't equipped to provide this type of human-centered learning. We need to drastically rethink our societal approach to education.
