Welcome to Feel-Good Fridays. Every Friday from now through the end of June, Unpacked is popping into your feed with a brand-new series designed to carry you into the weekend a little lighter. Each episode, host Aislyn Greene and producer Nikki Galteland are joined by a different Afar staffer to share three travel stories that made them smile, tear up (in a good way), or rethink what's possible. Funny, inspiring, heartwarming—the only rule is no downers. For our debut episode, we're joined by Afar's Michelle Baran, who brings her own dose of feel-good to the mic. Together, the three of them share: – A celebrated food writer's reintroduction to her own hometown, and what travel can teach us about grief, grace, and seeing familiar streets with new eyes – A long-awaited transit milestone in a famously car-bound American city—and what it could mean for one of the world's biggest upcoming sporting events – A Vienna café where the pastries come with a side of intergenerational wisdom (and the bakers might just remind you of your own grandmother) Plus: a childhood alter ego involving wigs, doorbells, and a traveling comedy duo we did not see coming. Tune in every Friday through June for a fresh trio of stories from Afar's favorite travel writers and editors. We'll see you next week. In this message, Mark Estes challenges believers to move beyond surfacelevel faith and into a deeper, more authentic relationship with God. He emphasizes that true transformation doesn't come from external behavior or religious routines, but from an inward change of heart. When our hearts are aligned with God, our lives naturally begin to reflect His character. Pastor Mark highlights the importance of surrender and trust, reminding us that growth often requires letting go of control and allowing God to lead. Too often, we try to manage outcomes or rely on our own understanding, but real faith is built when we trust God even when the path isn't clear. It's in that surrender that God shapes our character and strengthens our faith. Ultimately, the message calls us to live with intentionality and obedience. Faith isn't passive—it requires action, consistency, and a willingness to follow God daily. When we commit to that process, we begin to see lasting change, not just in our own lives, but in the way we impact others around us.

Teen Challenge of Southern California
When the World Gets Darker, the Church Burns Brighter | Gary Wilkerson

Teen Challenge of Southern California

Play Episode Listen Later Mar 31, 2026 34:08

In this urgent and sobering message from Fire in Our Bones, Gary Wilkerson delivers a prophetic warning to the church about the spiritual condition of the culture and the danger of mistaking outward improvement for true transformation. Preaching from Matthew 12 and Romans 1, he warns that temporary moral cleanup, political shifts, or cultural corrections are not the same as revival. If a generation is merely swept and ordered on the outside but remains empty on the inside, darker forces will return with even greater intensity. As Gary says, “We have not had a real revival,” and the church must not be lulled into comfort by appearances. At the same time, this message is not one of fear, but of holy resolve. Gary calls believers to prepare for a darker hour by becoming a stronger, purer, more Spirit-filled church. Rather than shrinking back, the people of God are called to stand, resist, pray, fast, and live with uncompromising love and holiness. One of the strongest burdens of the message is his conviction that “These are not going to be the darkest days for the church. I believe they're going to be the brightest days for the church,” because when evil rises, God raises up a people who are ready to shine. This is a call to spiritual resistance, deep consecration, and courageous faith for the days ahead.

In this message, Chad Narayan reminds us that God is constantly at work, even when we don't immediately recognize it. Centered on the idea of “come and see,” he challenges believers to shift their focus from stress, control, and what's missing to the evidence of God's goodness already present in their lives. Too often, we overlook everyday miracles because we're fixated on what hasn't happened yet. Chad encourages us to lift our perspective and trust that nothing is too difficult for God. When we stop striving and start seeing, faith begins to grow and anxiety begins to shrink. Instead of living as spectators waiting for something big, we're called to become witnesses—recognizing, celebrating, and sharing what God is already doing. Ultimately, the message is a call to live with gratitude and awareness. When we intentionally look for God's work, we begin to see His hand in every season. Gratitude doesn't create miracles—it reveals them. And when we recognize His presence, our faith becomes stronger, our outlook becomes brighter, and our lives become a testimony.

In this message, Pastor Chad Veach launches the series “Better and Brighter,” teaching from Matthew 5 that followers of Jesus are called to be the salt of the earth and the light of the world. Christians aren't meant to live for themselves, but to live on mission — helping people who are far from God encounter His love and grace. Pastor Chad emphasizes that the heart of the gospel is rescue. God didn't send Jesus to condemn the world but to save it. Through stories like the lost sheep and the lost coin, he reminds us that being lost does not remove someone's value — it only changes their location. God relentlessly pursues people who are far from Him because they still belong to Him. The message challenges believers to stop living small, self-centered lives and instead join God's rescue mission. Ordinary people carry an extraordinary message — the gospel of Jesus. When Christians live boldly and share their faith, they become the salt and light that can make their cities, communities, and workplaces better and brighter.

On this episode of Sran Rosalind is taking a deep dive into the world of Scottish Cider. As it continues to grow in popularity, Rosalind wanted to speak to some of the people who are the heart of the cider industry to see how their businesses are doing and what we can all look forward to. First up Rosalind speaks to Judith Gillies, who, with her husband Ron, runs Cairn o'Mohr winery in the Carse of Gowrie, Perthshire. Since 1987 they have been brewing up fruity award-winning wines and more recently, cider as they are based in an area famous for its apples, pears and plums.  Judith tells Rosalind how they got into the business, how it is changing and what their hopes for the future are. Rosalind also chats to Grant Hutchison and his wife Jaye about their store Aeble in Anstruther, Scotland's first dedicated cider shop. Grant was previously the drummer in Frightened Rabbit who in recent years had turned his attention to cider. Now they are putting on their first cider festival, which is happening in Edinburgh at the end of the month. They tell Rosalind all about how Covid prompted their move to Fife and the store's opening, as well as how people's understanding and appreciation for cider is changing.  They also discuss their plans and hopes for the upcoming festival—one of the first of its kind for Scotland.
