   "The Civil War is sometimes called the Second Haitian Revolution.  For over seventy years pro-slavers feared Haiti, and the enslaved and abolitionists found great hope from Toussaint Louverture and Haiti.  Marvin T. Jones details the actions of enslaved and abolitionists who were encouraged by the Haitian Revolution, Haiti’s own involvement in offering freedom to people of color. And, why Haiti was so important to keeping alive the hope that all Americans would be free.  American leaders who wrote, spoke of and acted due to their admiration for Louverture include John Brown, Martin Delaney, Gabriel Prosser, Frederick Douglass, Charlotte Forten, William Lloyd Garrison, Prince Hall, John Mercer Langston, Wendell Phillips, Senator Charles Sumner, Denmark Vesey and David Walker.  Many African Americans today are descended from all who saw Haiti as a guiding light. Marvin T. Jones, a documentary photographer and filmmaker, is the executive Director of the Chowan Discovery Group, a research, documentation, preservation and presentation organization.  Among the CDG's accomplishments are five documentaries, seven North Carolina Highway Historical Markers, the funding of community organizations, a stage presentation, several articles, hosted conference panels, lectures and an award from the North Carolina Society of Historians.  Early in Marvin's career he documented Haitian forts for UNESCO. Author & Historian Marvin T. Jones, Excutive Director & owner of Marvin T. Jones and Associates, specilizing in corporate communications photography and photographicdesign. His love of the community of his birth led him to create the now defunct Rowan-Chowan.com website, a personal website of stories and photo essays. jones is a native of Cofield, North Carolina; he attended the Winton Triangle's C.S. Brown School and graduated from Ahoskie High School. Marvin also wrote a chapter in Carolina Genesis, Beyond The Color Line and presents the first history of the Winton Triangle. The Robbins Family at War with Marvin Jones

"The Robbins Family at War" - it is about a Native American family who lived through colonial wars of the 17th and 18th centuries, and finally emerged victorious in the Civil War as a part of the mixed-race community.  Five members served in the U.S. Colored Troops.  Three fought from Suffolk, VA to Richmond and helped enforce Juneteenth.  Two served in Florida and South Carolina. After the war, they served in NC legislature, invented and founded schools and churches. "Marvin T. Jones is the executive director of the Chowan Discovery Group, whose mission is to research, document, preserve and present the history of the mixed-race land-owning people of the Hertford County area in northeast North Carolina.  The CDG has produced many articles, lectures, historical markers, a stage production and several video documentaries.  Marvin lives in Washington, DC and is a native of Cofield, NC. From Family History to Community History - the Chowan Discovery Group Story with Marvin T. Jones, Executive Director of the Chowan Discovery Group(CDG).    The mission of the Chowan Discovery Group  is to research, document, preserve and present the 400+ year-old history of the landowning tri-racial people of color of the Winton Triangle, an area centered in Hertford County, North Carolina.     Founded in 2007, the Chowan Discovery Group (www.chowandiscovery.org)  co-produced in 2009 its first major presentation, a stage production, scripted by Jones, called The Winton Triangle.  The book, Carolina Genesis: Beyond the Color Line, features Jones’ summary of the Triangle’s history. In addition to writing articles, Jones has made numerous presentations about the Winton Triangle’s history on national and regional radio, at colleges and universities, museums and to civic groups. The North Carolina Office of Archives and History accepted four of his nominations for highway historical markers. A native of Cofield, a village in the Winton Triangle, Marvin Jones began this project a decade ago by scanning the photograph collection of relatives and neighbors.  The Winton Triangle digital collection now has over 7000 files of photographs, documents, maps, audio and video recordings.  Jones is the owner of Marvin T. Jones & Associates, a professional photography company in Washington, DC.  He has  published in well-known magazines and has worked in South America, the Caribbean and Africa.  Howard University and Roanoke-Chowan Community College hosted Jones’ exhibit on Somalia.
