The Town Mayor, Councillor Chris Paige, cut the ribbon to celebrate the completion of an expensive refurbishment - over £100,000 - of the Grade 2 listed building at a ceremony on Thursday 25 September. Winton House is an important part of the High Street’s appearance and traditions, and has also been relit for an impressive night time view too. It's main purpose though is for the community, providing a base for over 10 charities, including Home Start Butser and Age Concern as well as the Community Cafe and many other events from the Veterans Drop in to the Dementia Cafe. Mike Waddington, who is a trustee at Winton House, spoke to President Robert Venables, Chair Dr Richard Phillips, Sarah Moss the Manager, Nadim the architect of the works and the Mayor, Chris Paige, along with the volunteers who keep the cafe and information desk running. There are photos at Winton House of the works and the surprising features they discovered. See News | Winton House Centre See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Gunnison Copper Corp has reached a major milestone with the first production of pure copper cathode at its fully operational Johnson Camp Mine (JCM) in southeast Arizona. Senior Vice President of Operations Robert Winton shared the news with Steve Darling from Proactive, noting that production officially commenced during the last week of August 2025, establishing Gunnison as the newest American copper producer. The start of domestic production represents a pivotal achievement for both the company and the United States, as it strengthens energy independence, national defense readiness, and advanced manufacturing supply chains. Winton explained that Gunnison successfully commissioned and brought online the solvent extraction and electrowinning (SX-EW) circuit, marking the transition from start-up to sustained copper production from run-of-mine ore. Importantly, the company achieved this milestone ahead of schedule, with Made-in-America copper now ready for domestic sales. A key contributor to this success has been Nuton, Gunnison's strategic and financial partner. Nuton has provided not only capital support but also exclusive access to its proprietary leaching technologies, enabling a more sustainable and economically viable pathway for copper recovery at JCM. Equally noteworthy, Winton emphasized the company's commitment to safety and operational excellence. The commissioning of the run-of-mine copper production circuit was completed without incident, underscoring Gunnison's strong safety culture and disciplined execution. With first copper now produced, Gunnison is poised to expand production capacity and play an increasingly important role in securing a domestic copper supply chain critical for the energy transition, electrification, and national infrastructure. #proactiveinvestors #gunnisoncoppercorp #tsx #gcu #otcqb #gcumf r #CopperMining #USMining #CopperProject #MiningInvestment #CommodityMarkets #CopperProduction #ArizonaMining #ResourceDevelopment #MiningStocks #CopperDemand #MetalsAndMining

Central Otago hospitality precinct Ayrburn is forecast to be the most popular attraction in the region. Winton Land owns the property near Arrowtown, which already has 10 restaurants and bars, while a screen hub, retirement village, and other amenities are in the works. Owner Chris Meehan told Mike Hosking it was a risk to turn what was an empty paddock a few years ago into this venture. He says they're aiming to be the thing everyone goes to in Queenstown, so projections of one million people to visit this year is a good sign. Bird tourism is booming, and in many parts of the world we've seen countries invest in conservation and tourism infrastructure to take advantage of it. Certainly birders are drawn by unique species, but perhaps our choices for bird-watching destinations have as much to do with other factors as they do with the presence of really great birds. It's the subject of a paper to be published in an upcoming issue of the journal People and Nature by Natalia Ocampo-Peñuela and Scott Winton, who join us to talk "bird capital" and birder wants. Also, a much loved birding hotspot in Fort Worth, Texas is closed indefinitely. Gunnison Copper Corp Senior Vice President of Operation Robert Winton joined Steve Darling from Proactive to announce the start-up of the solvent extraction (SX) plant and electrowinning (EW) circuit at the company's Johnson Camp Mine in southeast Arizona, with first copper sales expected in September. Construction activities at JCM, funded by Nuton LLC, a Rio Tinto venture, remain on schedule. The final phase of leach pad construction is progressing as planned, while the on-pad crushing circuit, designed for use with Nuton Technologies, has been installed and entered commissioning. The agglomerator and related processing equipment are in place, with final mechanical and electrical construction nearing completion. Additionally, the new LNG system at the EW plant has been fully commissioned and is operating in line with the start-up of electrowinning. Winton said that starting the SX-EW plant ahead of schedule marks another major step toward achieving targeted copper cathode sales in September 2025. Looking ahead, Gunnison Copper said focus will shift toward the Gunnison Project. The company reported that the project carries a net present value of between $1.30 billion and $1.40 billion. It said efforts are underway to increase that value by commercializing gravel and 85.00 million tons of high-grade limestone from the site. It also reported that ore sorting trials are being conducted to separate acid-consuming rock that does not contain copper. The company said this process, already used successfully in other operations, could significantly improve recovery rates and add value to the preliminary economic assessment released in November 2024. #proactiveinvestors #gunnisoncoppercorp #tsx #gcu #otcqb #gcumf r #CopperMining #USMining #CopperProject #MiningInvestment #CommodityMarkets #CopperProduction #ArizonaMining #ResourceDevelopment #MiningStocks #CopperDemand #MetalsAndMining

Daniel Bibby's short film Half Past Midnight follows two strangers - Harper (Miah Madden) and Marcus (Mitchell Bourke) - who meet in a cinema and decide to head out for drinks after the screening. In the bar, their relationship is revealed to be something more, something where romance once flourished, a romance that is now withering, yet for both Harper and Marcus, it feels as if it's still in reach. There's a tenderness to Half Past Midnight, one that underpins the films understanding of two adults growing to realise that the person they thought was 'the one' is not exactly that anymore. It's written by Daniel Bibby and Kelly Holden, and comes from Daniel's own experiences with a partner he had when he was living in the UK.This episode features two conversations; the first is an extensive dive into Daniel's work, his influences, what it was like working with producer Luisa Martiri, and how he navigated the deeply personal narrative and worked his way alongside Kelly to bring it to life on screen. The second conversation is with Miah and Mitchell, two friends who have known each other for a long time, but work together for the first time on this film. Half Past Midnight is beautifully shot by Julian Panetta, with their camera lingering and observing with tracking shots and close ups that feel, at times, almost too personal. Their camerawork is complemented by Adrian Diery's score, a score that gives a grand sense to the relationship between Marcus and Harper.Half Past Midnight will be screening at the Vision Splendid Film Festival, which kicks off in Winton, Queensland from 27 June to 5 July.
