It's another edition of the Away Mission, in which we invite fellow Asian American fans of Star Trek to do a deep dive into an episode of their choosing. We welcome writer Michael Golamco to discuss "The Measure of a Man" from season two of Star Trek: The Next Generation. We talk about the important questions: is Data the property of Starfleet? (No.) Does Data have a soul? (Maybe.) Did Picard and Louvois get it on? (Definitely.)
We're still in hiatus mode, but wanted to give our subscribers a little bonus for staying with us while we're figuring things out. A few weeks ago we chatted with Michael Golamco, who co-wrote the Netflix Original Movie "Always Be My Maybe" with his friends Randall Park and Ali Wong. Michael shares his early days with the UCLA Asian American Theater Troupe and Randall co-founded and how that led to him to a career in writing for the stage and screen. We also discuss Keanu Reeve's master bill paying skills and Mike's hopes for the future of Asians in entertainment. James' wife Katharine is back on the pod to discuss the Netflix hit rom-com, Always Be My Maybe, starring and co-written by Ali Wong and Randall Park (along with Michael Golamco). They chat about how the movie integrated Asian culture, the importance of food in the film (our hosts do a deep dive into their own "cooking"),and of course, Keanu's cameo. But first, the guys give their take on Lena Waithe's recent comments on black movie stars and financing black indie films.FOLLOW BLACK MEN CAN'T JUMP [IN HOLLYWOOD]:https://twitter.com/blackmenpodcasthttps://www.instagram.com/blackmenpodcastBUY BLACK MEN CAN'T JUMP [IN HOLLYWOOD] MERCH:https://www.teepublic.com/stores/black-men-can-t-jump-in-hollywoodSUPPORT BLACK MEN CAN'T JUMP [IN HOLLYWOOD] ON PATREON:https://www.patreon.com/BMCJBLACK MEN CAN'T JUMP [IN HOLLYWOOD] IS A FOREVER DOG PODCAST:https://foreverdogpodcasts.com/podcasts/black-men-cant-jump-in-hollywood

BEHIND THE LENS just keeps on rolling along as we welcome MARIO VAN PEEPLES and LISA FRANCE to this week's show. A powerhouse in the industry, writer/director/actor/producer MARIO VAN PEEPLES is live talking about his latest series on SyFy Channel- SUPERSTITION. A riveting chilling thriller, you'll enjoy hearing Mario talk about creating the series' big screen feel with exemplary production values, complex characters, and fascinating storylines steeped in historical fact and legend. With the Season One finale just aired, the fate of Season Two hangs in the balance with a rapidly growing fanbase. Involved at every level of production (including directing 8 episodes), it's a joy to hear Mario talk about this incredible journey from script to screen. Then pro basketball player turned stuntwoman turned filmmaker LISA FRANCE joins us talking about her new documentary ROLL WITH ME. Fresh off a successful showing at Slamdance, as you will learn in this conversation with Lisa, ROLL WITH ME is the very definition of guerrilla filmmaking as Lisa and a ragtag skeleton crew embark on a cross-country journey with the film's subject Gabriel Cordell who is attempting a 3000 mile roll from Santa Monica, California to Long Island, New York. But this isn't just any journey. Cordell is a paraplegic, recent drug-addict, and is riding his wheelchair across the country. While moviegoers will be gobsmacked on hearing Lisa talk about the filmmaking journey, filmmakers will find Lisa's experience particularly inspiring as she goes in-depth talking about securing equipment, financing, and yes, editing 4000 hours of footage. But before our special guests come onboard, hear director BEN LEWIN talk about his latest film, PLEASE STAND BY, starring Dakota Fanning. (Lewin previously directed Helen Hunt to an Oscar nomination for her work in the Lewin written/directed "The Sessions" co-starring John Hawkes.) Written by Michael Golamco, PLEASE STAND BY is the story of a young autistic girl who experiences the world on her own (with her dog Pete) for the first time as she heads to Los Angeles to hand deliver a "Star Trek" script contest submission. In today's exclusive clips, you'll hear Ben talk about what led him to this story and the film's visual tone. http://behindthelensonline.net http://eliasentertainmentnetwork.com
Episode 515: "Skin Deepâ€Written by Michael Golamco, directed by Karen GaviolaMore classic Grimm. Hope you like it. Classic Grimm seems to be what we're getting for the time being. I was more bothered by what wasn't in this episode than anything that was. What do I mean by classic Grimm? I mean most of the episode revolved around the police case(s) with bits of main character story. This was a different kind of Wesen attack. Usually when a person is attacked they die at the scene of the attack. This time, the Musasat Alsh-Shabab, some kind of Scarab Beetle Wesen sucks the youth from its victim, who later ages extremely fast and dies. But the benefit for the attacker is it's very hard to tie the death to the Musasat Alsh-Shabab.
