"The man who embraces his mediocre nothingness shines greater than any." - Keanu Reeves 2019's "Always Be My Maybe" is a cute romantic comedy, but it's also a look at an alternate version of Randall Park as a chill San Francisco rapper. We'll talk about the real influences on Hello Peril, the group at the center of this movie, as well as some other Bay Area artists that we believe fed into the vibe. Plus, a bit on the heavy-hitters like Dan the Automator and Lyrics Born who lent real-life credibility to the music in this film.

Her experiences of discrimination as a mixed-race Japanese child have left her cold, bitter and vengeful. Forced by her mother to disguise herself as a boy so as not to be found, she chooses to maintain her disguise into adulthood to pursue her path of revenge more freely. George Takei as Seki, Princess Akemi's male tutor. He sympathizes with Akemi's situation and later takes steps to ensure her freedom. Masi Oka as Ringo, an optimistic, handless male cook who idolizes Mizu. Despite Mizu initially not wanting a companion, she later tolerates Ringo. He proves surprisingly helpful and loyal to Mizu. Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa as Master Eiji, a blind swordsmith who raised Mizu. She is in love with Taigen and resents her father's control over her and seeks a life of independence. Darren Barnet as Taigen, a promising but arrogant male swordsman of humble origins. He is in love with Princess Akemi and harbors a strong resentment towards Mizu, which has lasted since their childhoods, and later seeks revenge after being humiliated in a duel which cuts off his engagement with Akemi. Randall Park as Heiji Shindo, Fowler's nominal jailor and accomplice. Kenneth Branagh as Abijah Fowler, an Irish smuggler who is allied with the Shogun, in secret defiance of Japan's Sakoku closed-door policies. He plans to overthrow the current Shogun and replace him with a leader who will open Japan to outside influence. Stephanie Hsu as Ise, a prostitute. Ming-Na Wen as Madame Kaji, a cunning and savvy madam. Harry Shum Jr. as Takayoshi, the Shogun's second son. Mark Dacascos as Bloodsoaked Chiaki, an assassin and the leader of the Four Fangs gang. Orli Mariko Green as Young Mizu Judah Green as Young Taigen Patrick Gallagher as Lord Daichi, Akemi's father. Ann Harada as Mama, Mizu's unnamed adoptive mother. Although Mizu initially believed she was her biological mother, it's later revealed she was merely her maid who was paid to care for her. Byron Mann as Mikio, a disgraced samurai who was married to Mizu. Reginald Andres finally got his life together – when he was turned into a vampire. While he doesn't fit into the stereotypical expectations of what a vampire looks like – he's not chiseled or classically handsome – Reginald has found his place amongst an unlikely cohort that includes the cool vampire who sired him, the former vampire chieftain turned unexpected ally (or is she?), and his co-worker/former girlfriend. A show with a lot of heart and just enough blood, “Reginald the Vampire” proves the undead life is just as complicated as life itself.Jacob Batalon made his debut as executive producer and lead star as the titular character Reginald Baskin in Syfy's REGINALD THE VAMPIRE, a dramedy based on Johnny B. Truant's FAT VAMPIRE book series. The story is set in a world populated by beautiful, fit, and vain vampires with Batalon's Reginald being the unlikely hero who will have to navigate every kind of obstacle – the girl he loves but cannot be with, a bully manager at work and the vampire chieftain who wants him dead.Batalon has established himself as a leading star in the industry with his ability to resonate with his characters and captivate global audiences. Following the success of his scene-stealing role as Peter Parker's charming best friend ‘Ned Leeds' in the MCU Spider-Man films with Tom Holland, Batalon continues to dominate film and television both on and off the screen.Following the immediate break out success of SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING in 2017, Batalon went on to reprise his role in SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING, AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR and AVENGERS: END GAME. He also starred in Netflix's LIFT and LET IT SNOW, EVERY DAY for MGM, Randall Park's debut film SHORTCOMINGS; and the independent films THE TRUE DON QUIXOTE; BLOOD FEST; DISH and BANANA SPLIT. Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/arroe-collins-unplugged-totally-uncut--994165/support.

Host Meg Wolitzer presents four stories in which characters shape their expectations and dreams to a manageable size in collaboration with Belletrist Book Club. So if you're “Medusa,” as in our first story, by Tania James, you try to figure out how to live in the world instead of turning it to stone. The reader is Constance Zimmer. Parents in our second story, “We Only Wanted Their Happiness,” by Alexander Weinstein, make a tactical choice about technology. It's performed by Randall Park. The narrator of Honor Levy's “Good Boys,” read by Annie Hamilton, understands that infatuation is a phase. And a man and a woman sidestep romance in “Arrangements” by Charlie Watts, performed by Laura Harrier and Will Harrison. The show was recorded at the Getty Center in Los Angeles and features commentary by Emma Roberts and Karah Preiss of Belletrist Book Club. Since 2017, Belletrist Book Club has chosen more than 75 titles for the book club and dozens more for myriad content features across Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, and the newsletter The Belletrist Brief. In 2019, Emma Roberts and Karah Priess spun out Belletrist Book Club into a production company called Belletrist Productions. https://www.belletrist.com/

Welcome to Multiverse News, Your one-stop-shop for Info about all your favorite fandoms. Lucasfilm released the first trailer for their upcoming live action Star Wars series titled The Acolyte. The show will premiere with two episodes on June 4. Though the trailer is a little more than a minute long, it doesn't show its hand too much other than to imply that someone - or something - is hunting and killing Jedi. Marvel Studios head of streaming, television, and animation, Brad Winderbaum, confirmed that the character of Richard Rider/Nova has a project in development. Winderbaum qualified the statement by saying that Marvel Studios is running more like a traditional tv studio and that things can change. Director Patty Jenkins revealed that she is back on board to helm the Rogue Squadron movie after making a new deal with Lucasfilm. Originally announced back in 2020, the project has shifted around due to changes with Jenkins, the potential of it being made into a television show, and more. Jenkins has long wanted to make what she calls a fighter pilot movie for Star Wars DC Studios is going all-in on Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow writer Ana Nogueira who will also pen the live-action adaptation of Teen Titans.  While the original Teen Titans were introduced in the 1960s in DC Comics, the characters have grown and expanded and found a popular audience with the animated show Teen Titans Go! on Cartoon Network. Venom 3 is officially titled Venom: The Last Dance and the release date for the film has scootched up from November 8 to October 25. Ari Aster has assembled an all-star cast for his next film Eddington, which began production last week. Joaquin Phoenix, Pedro Pascal, Emma Stone, and Austin Butler are set to star in the A24 feature. In April 2023, Variety reported that a Twilight series was in early development. Last week, Lionsgate Vice Chairman Michael Burns confirmed that the project is currently being shopped and that it has shifted to an animated series. New Line's adaptation of Stephen King's Salem's Lot has been removed from Warner Brothers theatrical release schedule and will now debut on Max sometime later this year. It and Annabelle writer Gary Dauberman wrote and directed the film, which has been in flux since the Warner Brothers and Discovery merger. Netflix anthology series Black Mirror will return in 2025 with six new episodes including a sequel to the sci-fi adventure episode, USS Callister. FX's The Bear has quietly been renewed for a fourth season, which will film back to back with the third season. Andy and Barbara Muschietti, the filmmaking team behind the $1 billion grossing It movies and last year's The Flash, have teamed up with Skydance to launch a brand new horror division, named Nocturna. The Muschiettis will co-own the label and run its creative direction. According to industry insider Jeff Sneider, Scarlett Johansson has reportedly been offered the lead role for the upcoming Jurassic World film, currently scheduled for 2025. AMC picked up rights to all four seasons of the post-apocalyptic drama Snowpiercer, including the completed but never aired fourth season. The first three seasons will begin streaming on AMC+ later this year, with the final season set to premiere on both AMC and AMC+ in early 2025. Universal announced the release date for its latest action flick With Love, starring Everything Everywhere All at Once Oscar winner Ke Huy Quan. This marks Quan's first major leading role in his 40 years in Hollywood. With Love is scheduled to hit theaters February 7, 2025. Lionsgate released the first official trailer for the remake of The Crow, which stars Bill Skarsgard. The film releases in theaters on June 7th. CBS Studios announced the voice cast for the upcoming Among Us animated series, which is based on the popular video game. Randall Park, Elijah Wood, Yvette Nicole Brown, and Ashley Johnson will voice the main characters. At this time, the series does not have a release date.

Needless to say, we cut (most) of them out (probably), leaving instead another fine and fun episode in which Chris is joined in the studio by James Dyer and Helen O'Hara, thus putting them at risk of infection. Thankfully, none of them turn into mindless zombies (how could we tell?) as they discuss the week's news, including the sad passing of Terence Davies, Kevin Costner's big-screen comeback, and rumoured upheaval at both Marvel Studios and A24, review The Miracle Club, Shortcomings, BlackBerry and Paw Patrol: The Mighty Movie, and fail spectacularly to name all the Carry On movies. Oh, and James bangs on about Taylor Swift, which makes a change. Our guest this week is the wonderful actor Randall Park, who talks to Chris (50:56.00 - 1:07:01.00) about making the step up to directing with his excellent indie debut, Shortcomings, plus how he methodically built his acting career over the years.
