Today, we're diving into a topic that affects every organization, every team, and quite frankly, all of us – resistance to change. As Waldman and O'Reilly (2022) found in their research, resistance to change is one of the main reasons why up to 70% of organizational changes fail to achieve their desired results. We will unpack why this happens and, more importantly, how you can successfully navigate it – especially in social work settings where the stakes are often incredibly high.Reference:Anderson, D. L. Hello Rank Squad! On Monday news broke that Trent Alexander-Arnold's move to Real Madrid this summer was close to being completed, with the Liverpool defender seemingly leaving his boyhood club for free at the expiration of his contract this summer, and it got us thinking - who else is in the same category of being on the open market this summer and where could they go?We start with a discussion of the three Liverpool names that have been in the spotlight all season - Trent, Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah - taking a look at who is perhaps most expendable, who is least replaceable, and what we think might play out, especially with Salah and VVD, as well as taking a brief look at some potential replacements. Then it's on to some other names - we discuss the futures of Angel Gomes, Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Leroy Sane, Jonathan David, and young Swedish talent Roony Bardghji - and where they all might be plying their trades next season given the expiration of their current deals at their current homes. Jack finishes us off with a few more names to keep an eye on as the deadlines for extensions get closer and closer - Andre Franck Zambo Anguissa of Napoli, Marco Verratti of Al-Arabi - who is being linked with a move back to Europe - Sergio Reguilon of Tottenham Hotspur, and Espanyol captain Javi Puado. It's Ranks! And remember, if you'd like more from the Rank Squad, including extra podcasts every Monday and Friday (including our weekly Postbox taking a look at the whole weekend of football) and access to our brilliant Discord community, then why not join us here on Patreon?

Linda knows that it was Robert who picked out the gift because it's a lamp that projects the northern lights, something they always wanted to see together. When Linda sees Robert's date, she begins to butt in and won't let them talk to each other. She finally comfronts Robert about the gift thing and he says he's sorry that he didn't have time to see the northern lights with her but he's happy she found someone who can. Evan see's them talking and gets jealous. So he comfronts Robert and a bit of a tustle happens and Robert falls down. Back to square 1. Robert and Evan are left alone to make up

Ashley Lewin, Senior Director of Demand Generation at Refine Labs, joins Evan Hughes and Steph Crugnola for a discussion about attribution, and how to bridge the gap traditional software based attribution can leave in your understanding of your customers. Ashley starts by breaking down each attribution model, including first touch, last touch, multi touch, and self reported, highlighting the strengths and gaps left by each. Then she breaks down the hybrid attribution model, walking through first steps on how to implement and utilize the data insights it can give. Ashley stresses the importance of viewing attribution as a compass to get you close to your destination, rather than a definitive answer, and how staying flexible and curious can help keep you better up to date with the rapidly changing landscape in marketing. Building on previous insights shared by Claire Hutton regarding primary care physicians' experiences with fellow doctors, I invite my own family physician, Dr. Marc Lewin, to engage in a candid conversation about our 20-year relationship. Together, we aim to uncover the "elephant in the room" — the expectations and shared knowledge that complicate our interactions. We begin by reflecting on our individual experiences and mutual understanding as physicians. Dr. Lewin, with over 30 years of medical practice and significant humanitarian work abroad, shares his perspective on the honor he feels when treating a fellow doctor. He acknowledges that many physician patients often come in already armed with knowledge and perhaps preconceived notions about their care. This leads to an interesting dialogue about how physicians, even those with extensive training, can sometimes struggle to express vulnerability when discussing their health. Throughout our conversation, we focus on the subtleties of communication that shape our relationship. I share how I've occasionally hesitated to bring up anxieties related to my health, fearing that as a physician, I should already take care of these issues myself. Dr. Lewin reveals his own reservations about addressing sensitive topics within our doctor-patient dynamic, such as mental health and lifestyle discussions, ultimately voicing the importance of establishing an open dialogue. We explore the impact of shared experiences on our assessments of one another's health. I admit to the anxiety that sometimes accompanies my visits to him, driven by my knowledge of medical symptoms, while he addresses the delicate balance between providing patient-centered care and ensuring that I receive evidence-based recommendations. Dr. Lewin emphasizes that his role is not just to be a doctor but a partner in my health journey, directly confronting the misconception that physician patients need less thorough care. In a thoughtful exchange, we analyze our past interactions, where he assures me that he has never felt the need to overshoot testing or treatment based solely on my physician status. Instead, he aims to provide the best personalized care possible, and I express gratitude for the respectful and collegial approach he has maintained over the years. Our conversation transitions to offering advice for new physicians: the necessity to approach every patient—regardless of their background—with compassion, curiosity, and a commitment to quality care. As the episode draws to a close, we reflect on the trust built over years of mutual respect and understanding. I express how being able to share our thoughts candidly enhances not only our professional rapport but also our friendship. We close with gratitude towards each other, recognizing the unique position we hold as both doctors and as individuals invested in one another's well-being, paving the way for further meaningful conversations in the future. -+=-+=-+=-+= Join the Conversation! This bait ball in Australia surprised beachgoers at Manly Beach last week as three separate bait balls combined to form one huge ball. The bait ball is a natural process that fish use to help protect themselves against predators such as sharks, tuna, swordfish, marine mammals, and seabirds. If this was a natural process, then why were beachgoers asked to get out of the water? Summary In this episode of the "How to Protect the Ocean" podcast, host Andrew Lewin discusses a fascinating natural phenomenon that occurred at Manly Beach in Australia: the formation of a large bait ball. A bait ball is created when schools of fish come together in a tight formation to protect themselves from predators. This behavior is a survival strategy, as being part of a larger group reduces individual vulnerability to attacks. The episode highlights the rare occurrence of this bait ball close to shore, which prompted lifeguards to evacuate swimmers for safety. Lewin explains that while bait balls are often seen in the open ocean, their presence in shallow waters can attract various predators, making it crucial for beachgoers to stay out of the water during such events. The podcast also touches on the excitement generated by drone footage capturing the bait ball, likening it to scenes from nature documentaries. This event not only showcases the dynamic interactions within marine ecosystems but also emphasizes the importance of understanding these natural behaviors for ocean conservation. Overall, the episode serves as a reminder of the intricate relationships in the ocean and the need for awareness and protection of marine life. No, offshore wind does not cause whale strandings as stated by NOAA, the Marine Mammal Commission, and other government agencies. The rumor was started and perpetuated by the current president of the United States, Donald Trump; Fox News; fossil fuel-funded non-profit organizations; and the fishing communities along the East Coast as renewable energy threatens the fossil fuel industry. In this episode of the "How to Protect the Ocean" podcast, host Andrew Lewin addresses the concerns surrounding whale strandings along the East Coast of the U.S. and the claims that the offshore wind industry is to blame. Over the past few years, there has been an increase in whale strandings, leading various groups—including politicians, nonprofit organizations, and media outlets—to suggest a link to offshore wind farms. However, Lewin emphasizes that extensive research conducted by NOAA and other academic institutions has found no evidence connecting the offshore wind industry to these strandings. The Marine Mammal Commission, the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management, and NOAA Fisheries support this conclusion, stating that the primary human threats to large whales are vessel strikes and entanglement in fishing gear, not offshore wind. Lewin points out that the narrative blaming offshore wind is perpetuated by those with vested interests, such as the fossil fuel industry and fishing communities, who may feel threatened by the growth of renewable energy sources. He stresses the importance of relying on scientific evidence rather than misinformation spread through social media and certain media outlets. The episode reinforces that there is no scientific basis for the claims linking offshore wind to whale strandings, and it highlights the need to focus on the real threats to whale populations, such as vessel strikes and fishing gear entanglement. In this episode of the How to Protect the Ocean podcast, host Andrew Lewin discusses the devastating wildfires in Los Angeles, emphasizing the significant role climate change plays in their occurrence and intensity. Lewin highlights that the wildfires are exacerbated by a phenomenon known as "hydroclimate whiplash," where California experiences extreme fluctuations between wet and dry conditions. In 2023, the state saw record precipitation and lush vegetation growth, but by 2024, drought conditions led to that vegetation drying out, creating ample fuel for wildfires. The situation was further intensified by the Santa Ana winds, which reached speeds of up to 90 miles per hour, allowing fires to spread rapidly and uncontrollably. The episode underscores that these abrupt climate variations, intensified by global climate change, contribute to the increasing frequency and severity of wildfires. Lewin stresses that ignoring the science behind climate change and the resulting environmental conditions will only lead to more disasters, as seen in both California and Hawaii. He calls for urgent action and the election of decision-makers who acknowledge and are willing to address climate change effectively. Overall, the episode serves as a somber reminder of the real and devastating impacts of climate change on communities, urging listeners to recognize the urgency of the situation and take action. Environmental protections before the next president could be sworn in were implemented to help save 625 million acres of ocean from oil and gas exploration. In this episode of the "How to Protect the Ocean" podcast, host Andrew Lewin discusses recent developments regarding the Gulf of Mexico and new protections for marine environments in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico Name Change Proposal The episode begins with a focus on Donald Trump's controversial proposal to rename the Gulf of Mexico to the "Gulf of America." Lewin explains that such a unilateral change is not feasible due to historical, cultural, and diplomatic considerations. The name "Gulf of Mexico" has been recognized internationally for centuries and reflects the region's shared history with Mexico and Cuba. Any attempt to rename it would require significant international consensus, which is unlikely given current diplomatic tensions. Lewin emphasizes that the U.S. cannot simply impose a new name on an internationally recognized body of water. New Protections for Oceans The podcast then shifts to President Joe Biden's recent actions aimed at protecting marine ecosystems. Biden has banned offshore drilling and gas drilling across 65 million acres of federal waters, including sensitive areas in the Atlantic, Arctic, Pacific Oceans, and the eastern Gulf of Mexico. This decision was made through an executive order invoking the 1953 Outer Continental Shelf Lands Act, which grants the president broad authority to withdraw federal waters from future oil and gas leasing. Lewin notes that while Biden's ban can be reversed by a future administration, it would require congressional approval, making it more challenging for Trump to undo the protections unilaterally. The episode highlights that the economic impact of this ban may be minimal in the short term, as existing offshore rigs continue to operate and new projects take years to develop. Overall, the episode underscores the complexities surrounding the Gulf of Mexico's name and the importance of Biden's new protections for marine environments. Lewin invites listeners to share their thoughts on these developments and the future of ocean conservation.
