Welcome to Bottle Episodes! The show where Daniel Crow and David Piccolomini watch the best of terrible television! This week we're talking about Myspace Superstar and Bisexual Icon A Shot at Love with Tila Tequila. A dating show in 2007 that dares to ask the question, Are we ready for a bisexual train wreck? We watch the pilot to find 16 men and 16 women all ready to date Tila. It's impressive to make a show this progressive feel this homophobic. I'd say hop onto your jetskis but this is the kind of show you NEED a head injury to watch. Comedians Bret Raybould and Nick Whitmer get in on the action and become bisexual too. Cristian Duran (New York Comedy Festival) joins the podcast to talk about our formative years of high school: that awkward, sometimes traumatizing period in our lives where we’re trying to figure ourselves out based on what other people think of us. In many cases, it's easy to look back and laugh at the idiotic things we did to be cool or fit in, but for some people, high school is a memory that's best left in the past. Of course, we found the funny once we found ourselves, and can prove that you CAN laugh at that. In this episode, we talk about: -How Cristian’s high school experience led him to comedy. -Deciding to start in comedy. -Cristian’s first bomb ruined the show he was on. -The importance of doing open mics in front of other comics. -Getting laughs in high school classes. -When Steve used to hate talking in front of crowds. -When high school burnouts become successful. -People projecting their experience onto others. -Trusting yourself enough to relax and riff. -Communicating your feelings about the moment to the audience to level-set. -Laughing off high school traumas in hindsight. -What happened to the people who peaked in high school. -Cristian’s bit about his awkward stage in high school. -Recording an album. -One of the few moments in stand-up where it’s good that the audience is ahead of you. -Prom shows. -Being held accountable for what you said in high school. -And more! I sat down with fellow comedian Nick Whitmer, who lost his step brother Sam 4 years ago. Nick and I talk about what it was like to gain a new brother and best friend only to have him die in a car accident just as they were both becoming adults. We also talk about how comedians deal with emotional issues, and how we each deal with the darker thoughts that we have. Follow Nick on twitter at @NickWhitmer
One of the most beloved baseball of all times is about to get a fastball in the ribs. Nick Whitmer will try to convince Kevin Gootee and guest co-host Bill Schulz (Mornin with Bill and Joanne Nosuchinsky on Compound Media and formerly of Red Eye on Fox News Channel) that the Robert Redford fairy tale, the Natural, is disgustingly overrated. Can Nick take this fastball over the fence? Or does his argument get a bullet in the belly like Roy Hobbs? Is this heaven? No, it's Gutting the Sacred Cow's newest episode but it's pretty damn close. Writer and baseball aficionado Matt Welch thinks Field of Dreams is nostalgic nonsense and also believes this film is worse than Ray Lotta NOT hitting left-handed while portraying Shoeless Joe Jackson. Playing the Annie to KG's Ray Kinsella is Nick Whitmer who appeared the Natural episode. Let's see if James Earl Jones's baseball monologues, the tale of the disgraced 1919 Chicago Black Sox, and that ginger haired/beared brother in law are able to stand tall and face Matt's arrows. What do you think? Did farmer Kevin Costner and his cross country tale pick up hitchhikers just so he can "have a catch" with his dad yank your heartstrings?
