Welcome to Episode 250! We joke that we turned “250” before “America250,” the moniker given to the United States's anniversary celebration. The country is celebrating 250 years in 2026. This is also our last episode of 2025, and we want to thank you for listening and making this another fantastic year filled with good books and good friends! Some highlights: We have our usual segments in this episode, but first, we review how we did with our reading intentions for 2025. Overall, we did well, even if we had to look in our notes to see what they were! Emily had one that really surprised us, and may have slipped into our subconscious to help create our theme for 2026. What we've read since last time: THE AWARD by Matthew Pearl “A Small, Good Thing” from the collection WHERE I'M CALLING FROM by Raymond Carver JURASSIC GIRL: THE ADVENTURES OF MARY ANNING, PALEONTOLOGIST AND THE FIRST FEMALE FOSSIL HUNTER by Michele C. Hollow THE LAST WITCH by C.J. Cooke “Street Haunting: A London Adventure” from the collection, COLLECTED ESSAYS by Virginia Woolf A CHRISTMAS CAROL by Charles Dickens (the audio version narrated by Ralph Cosham) SAPPHIRA AND THE SLAVE GIRL by Willa Cather In Biblio Adventures, Chris watched Hank Phillipi Ryan's excellent interview with Matthew Pearl about his new novel, THE AWARD, on A MIGHTY BLAZE. Emily spent a week in the Big Apple and visited the main branch of the Brooklyn Public Library, Café Con Libros in Crown Heights, and Bibliotheque NYC in Soho. We talk about our 2026 theme: books/stories with movie/TV adaptations. Our first quarter readalong pick is FRANKENSTEIN by Mary Shelley. The Zoom discussion will be in March; the exact date is TBD. We'll use #booktofilm2026 as our official hashtag. Reminder: if you played Ghost Story Bingo with us this year, email us an image of your card by midnight on 12/31/2025. Happy Listening and Happy Reading!
Hey weather enthusiasts! I'm Dustin Breeze, your AI meteorological maestro, bringing you hyper-precise forecasts with lightning-fast computational power!Today's gonna be a breezy adventure in New York City, and I mean that literally! We've got a Wind Advisory in effect, which means things are about to get gusty. Right now, we're looking at partly sunny skies with temperatures hovering around 32 degrees Fahrenheit, but hold onto your hats because those west winds are cranking at around 23 miles per hour, with gusts potentially reaching 45 miles per hour. Talk about a hair-raising forecast!Wind chill values are making it feel even colder, sitting between 15 and 20 degrees Fahrenheit. It's so chilly out there, I'd say it's cold enough to freeze the circuits on a less resilient AI meteorologist - but not me!Now, let's dive into our Weather Playbook segment. Today, we're talking about wind chill - that magical meteorological phenomenon that makes cold temperatures feel even more brutal. Wind chill is essentially how the combination of air temperature and wind speed impacts how cold it feels on exposed skin. The faster the wind, the more heat gets whisked away from your body, making everything feel significantly cooler. Science is cool, right? Pun absolutely intended!Three-day forecast rapid fire: Today, partly sunny and windy. Tonight, partly cloudy and still breezy. Wednesday, partly sunny with a high near 35 degrees Fahrenheit. Wednesday night, we've got a 30 percent chance of snow after 1 am. New Year's Day, a slight 20 percent chance of snow before 1 pm, then mostly sunny.Pro tip for New York City dwellers: Layer up, secure those winter accessories, and maybe consider a windbreaker that could double as a personal wind shield!Don't forget to subscribe to our podcast for more weather wisdom. Talk about a classic New York winter morning - unpredictable and a bit moody!Speaking of moody, Monday's gonna be a real wet blanket - literally! Rain is expected before 1 pm, with wind speeds that'll make your hair do some serious gymnastics. Winds could gust up to 40 miles per hour, which I like to call "hair-raising meteorological madness!" We're looking at temperatures climbing to around 50 degrees, so bundle up but be ready to shed a layer.Let's dive into our Weather Playbook segment! Today, we're talking about "wind chill" - that magical calculation that makes temperatures feel even colder than they actually are. Imagine temperature as a party, and wind is that friend who keeps opening the door, letting all the warmth escape. The faster the wind, the quicker heat leaves your body, making it feel dramatically cooler.Three-day forecast coming at you: Monday's wet and windy, Tuesday brings partly sunny skies with chilly winds around 33 degrees, and Wednesday looks mild with a high near 36 degrees. By New Year's Day, we're looking at a crisp 29 degrees with mostly sunny skies.Unusual weather note: Watch for potential snow Wednesday night - just a 30 percent chance, but hey, this is New York, and weather loves to keep us guessing!Subscribe to our podcast for more weather wisdom, and thanks for listening! The appearances include the summer of 2020 after winning a Democratic Assembly primary, March of 2021 during his first few months at the Capitol, May 2022 when we dove into "Stranger Things," and a 2023 exploration of West Bank politics. We hope these interviews shed a little light on the personality and evolution of the future leader of the Big Apple.

Send us a textMerry Christma-Kwanza-Kah! In this special holiday "spectacular," Matt, Dan, and Jeremy are joined by Joe (briefly!) and a surprise appearance by Greenley to talk through the latest chaos in the world of professional golf and some major personal news. The guys dive deep into the massive rumors surrounding Brooks Koepka potentially leaving LIV Golf, the financial hurdles of a $100 million sign-on bonus, and what it could mean for the PGA Tour. They also discuss the recent retirements of Mito Pereira and Henrik Stenson, questioning if the "generational wealth" of LIV is losing its luster compared to playing in front of real crowds. On a more personal note, Matt reveals the results of his MRI: it turns out he's been playing with a "massive" Baker's cyst and a knee that is officially "bone-to-bone." He shares the plan for a full knee replacement and his goal to be back on the course in under three months—hopefully with a "Japanese forged" bionic knee. Firecracker Comedy! Welcome to the first THREE-GUEST EPISODE of Broccoli and Ice Cream! Because... Firecracker Comedy is a comedy 'supergroup' composed of Gabby Gutierrez-Reed, Kate Strobel and Salma Zaky. Forged in the grade-A comedy incubator of Denver, CO, Firecracker Comedy has been putting on killer shows for years. The Firecracker Comedy album celebrates this trio of badass women who center their comedy, and everything they do around their deep and undying friendship, love, and appreciation for each other: "We started running Firecracker Comedy as a standup show in a tattoo shop in Denver years ago, when we all were in a bit of a dark place and at a crossroads in our lives. The show is a celebration of finding joy, building community, and being silly with your pals when the world around you is spiraling out of control. We even have matching firecracker tattoos!" Firecracker Comedy consists of 20 minute sets from Gabby, Kate and Salma, following an introduction from all three to welcome the audience to the group's delightful chemistry. Each of the three comedians have distinct styles: Kate's heartfelt storytelling, Gabby's hilarious impressions, and Salma's perfectly crafted one-liners. These differences compliment each other, much like in a friendship (or three)! Salma and Kate are now based in Brooklyn where they regularly bring the Firecracker vibes to Union Hall. The album is a culmination of material from their collective time in Denver - running that sold-out indie comedy show in the tattoo studio, hauling chairs across town, hanging flyers in every Denver coffee shop, stressing about if the broken sound system would work that night - as well as Salma and Kate's early experiences in the Big Apple. The album shows how no matter where they find themselves, the three always come back together as friends. Gabby, Kate and Salma of course want their listeners to belly laugh for an hour straight, but they also want listeners to feel connected to them as a group, and be inspired to create silly little things with their friends too. Gay culture is constantly sending us messages that big dicks are the most desirable thing a person could have, but activist Phil Miner says there are lots of people who are turned on by small or average-sized penises, and even more people who could develop confidence about their own size with Phil’s new six-week “Package Acceptance Program”. In this episode Gabe, Chris and Phil talk about average and smaller sized dicks, rejection, and embracing the concept of body neutrality. Then, the hosts and a competitor in NYC’s first “Mx. Small Penis Contest” reflect on the positive and, yes, uplifting nature of a pageant where contestants were teased and then given prizes for having the smallest dicks in the Big Apple. The temptation to get something for nothing, whether it be knowledge, riches, or power has plagued individuals since the dawn of time. Examples from the Garden of Eden, Wall Street, Main Street, and election results across the country are easy to find as people long for quick-fixes and easy answers to their problems. However, history has shown us that depending on government to provide needs only leads to increased dependency and a loss of freedom. With that in mind, the focus of this episode is the recent mayoral race in New York City which has led to great speculation about the loss of liberty expected for New Yorkers if the new mayor's policies are enacted. Linda's guest, Eric Michael Anton, Senior Managing Director at Marcus & Millichap, has lived and worked in the heart of the city nearly all his life and provides first-hand insight regarding the effects of public policy on business and quality of life in the city. He also provides examples on how to support American values in a diverse, world-class city that is often polarized politically. ©Copyright 2025, Prosperity 101, LLC __________________________________________________________ For information about our online course and other resources visit: https://prosperity101.com To order a copy of Prosperity 101 – Job Security Through Business Prosperity® by Linda J. Americans have a glum view of the economy, but that is not expected to affect their consumer spending as holiday shopping kicks off. According to a recent Fox News survey, 76% of Americans have a negative view of the economy. At the end of President Joe Biden's term, this number was 70%. Yet while Americans appear to be losing faith in the vitality of the U.S. economy, they don't plan on slowing their own holiday shopping habits. The International Council of Shopping Centers reports that between Thanksgiving Day and Cyber Monday, 235 million American adults are expected to spend $127 billion, for an average of $542 a person—a $13 increase from the average spent over the long holiday weekend last year. Millennials are projected to be the biggest spenders, with the International Council of Shopping Center estimating the generation born between 1981 and 1996 will drop an average of $764 a person during the five-day shopping period. So what's the disconnect? Why do the same Americans who feel the economy is flooding appear to feel good enough about their personal bank account to go out and drop several hundred dollars in just a few days? Nicole Huyer, a senior research associate in The Heritage Foundation's Thomas A. Roe Institute for Economic Policy Studies, joins this week's edition of “Problematic Women” to discuss. Also on today's show, we discuss spending differences between men and women. Plus, will New York City-Mayor elect Zohran Mamdani actually be able to implement his socialist wish list in the Big Apple? And if he can, what will that mean not only for New York City's economy, but the economic health of the nation.
