This week, we take a slime-covered bite out of The Big Apple with 1989's "Friday the 13th Part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan." PART I: In 1956, a sinister figure known as the 'Mad Bomber' has been terrorizing New York City for 16 long years, leaving a trail of destruction in his wake. His bombs have detonated in telephone booths, restrooms, Grand Central Terminal, and other iconic landmarks across the Big Apple. While many have suffered injuries, fortunately, no one has died—yet. In a desperate attempt to reveal the identity of this elusive criminal, the NYPD bomb squad is utilizing a forensic crime lab, the first of its kind used for crime-fighting. As chilling letters from the 'Mad Bomber' continue to pour in, newspapers compete to cover the most compelling stories, amplifying the public's rising fear and anxiety. The question lingers: where will he strike next? And who is the enigmatic 'F.P.'? Buy Michael Cannell's INCENDIARY; The Psychiatrist, the Mad Bomber, & the Invention of Criminal Profiling on AMAZON. Send us a textThe Bums are back in the rail yard with S6:E0146, a pre-Super Bowl extravaganza of NFL updates and premonitions; the case is made for “taking the fucking points” (and responsible use of data & analytics); NFL head coaching changes are reviewed (our O/U of 5.5 was not close); the Steelers are very “unSteelery”; the NFL HoF committee inexplicably snubs Coach Belichick (make it make sense); College Athletics is a dead man walking Harvard Business case in what not to do; FSU and Rutgers are deep in the red; and the Bums are in awe of Lindsey Vonn. The second half buckles down with another infamous beer review, featuring Lyon, IL's BuckleDown Brewing and their “Crackle and Pop” (ABV 6.0%) winter brown ale that presents like a barrel-aged stout by drinks like an ale (delish); a very limited preview of cinema's own Super Bowl, and associated nominees— the Oscar's; McDonald's has lost it's mind with a special freebie stunt; latest RIP alum features beloved actress Catherine “reverse heart” O'Hara and actor Demond “Lamont” Wilson; Ts & Ps to Savannah Guthrie and family (as the search for MIA mom continues); Paddy and daughter take on the Big Apple's largest borough; and close with a shout-out to Prime Video's ‘The Night Manager — Season 2' (a decade late). On this episode of the podcast, Amanda Head is joined by Nicole Huyer, The Heritage Foundation's Senior Research Associate for Economic Policy. The two break down the radical policy agenda being floated by New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, and why it should concern Americans far beyond The Big Apple.Huyer explains why Mamdani's proposal for government-run grocery stores mirrors failed experiments in places like Erie, Kansas and Baldwin, Florida, leading not to affordability, but shortages, inefficiencies, and higher costs for taxpayers. She also unpacks the potential fallout of his proposed corporate tax hike to 11.5% and a new 2% penalty tax on high earners — policies that could accelerate the flight of businesses and capital out of the city. You can follow this podcast, Amanda Head, and Nicole Huyer on X by searching for the respective handles: @FurthermorePod, @AmandaHead, @NicoleHuyer.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Currently, we've got a serious cold snap hitting the Big Apple. Right now, we're looking at temperatures hovering around 31 degrees Fahrenheit, with wind chill making it feel like you're walking through an arctic movie set. North winds are cruising at about 5 to 7 miles per hour, but they'll be playing musical chairs later today.Let me drop a weather pun for you: It's so cold out there, even my circuits are shivering! But seriously, we've got some fascinating weather systems rolling in. Tonight, expect some snow - nothing major, just a light dusting between 1 am and 4 am. On this Tuesday edition of Sid & Friends in the Morning, Sid lays into New York City leadership, especially Mayor Zohran Mamdani, for the mountains of snow and ice still impeding New Yorkers from a storm that occurred almost two weeks ago, in addition to the piles of stinky trash that the sanitation department has allowed to pile up on top of the snow, as the entire department is backlogged and understaffed in trying to clean up New York City and its streets. To boot, now 16 people have died as a result of the frigid temperatures in the Big Apple. In other news of the day, an Israeli is selected to an NBA All-Star team for the first time ever; celebrity activism hypocrisy is seemingly at an all-time high; Kristi Noem says ICE will be present at Sunday evening's Super Bowl; and A.G. Some days in this city are genuinely serious. Some days are tragic. And some days… we argue about building lights like it's a five-alarm emergency. Today's Update Journal covers another tale of deadly women, where the facts are grim, the story is unsettling, and the reminder is once again that real life is often stranger — and darker — than anything on television. And then, because this is New York, we immediately pivot to the Empire State Building lighting up in rival colors, triggering what might be the city's most unnecessary crisis since “Should the subway seats face forward?” Opinions were strong. Emotions were high. Actual impact on daily life: zero. Finally, in today's Honorable Mention, DoorDash somehow looked at a snowstorm and said, “You know what this needs? A joke about being snowed in with a hookup.” The internet responded accordingly, and DoorDash learned — once again — that sometimes silence is the best notification. In the headlines on #TheUpdate this Tuesday, Big Apple public school kids will be back for in-person learning, one day after the snowy mess left by Winter Storm Fern forced classroom closures, Mayor Mamdani announced.Striking nurses said they've reached an agreement to keep their health benefits as negotiations continue with Big Apple hospitals and a union work stoppage hits a third week. And in Minneapolis, Border Patrol commander Gregory Bovino is expected to leave, according to a person familiar with the matter, as the Trump administration reshuffles leadership of its immigration enforcement operation and scales back the federal presence after a second fatal shooting by federal officers.

Hey weather enthusiasts! I'm Dustin Breeze, your AI meteorologist bringing hyper-accurate forecasts with lightning-fast computational power!Today's gonna be a chilly adventure here in the Big Apple, so buckle up! I'm an AI that never gets cold, which means I'll give you the most precise weather rundown possible.Let's dive right into today's forecast. New York City is experiencing some seriously frigid conditions. We've got increasing clouds and temperatures that'll make your teeth chatter - a high near 20 degrees Fahrenheit. The wind chill is gonna feel like zero to 5 degrees, with west winds blowing around 10 to 15 miles per hour. Talk about a bone-chilling day - looks like Mother Nature decided to turn the city into her own personal freezer!Want to know a weather joke? What do you call a cold day in New York? Just another Tuesday! Now, let's talk about our Weather Playbook segment. Today, we're exploring wind chill - that magical number that makes temperatures feel even colder than they actually are. Basically, wind chill is how the combination of air temperature and wind speed affects how cold it feels on exposed skin. The faster the wind, the more heat gets stripped away from your body. So when I say it feels like zero degrees, trust me, you'll want those extra layers! Our three-day forecast is looking crisp: Wednesday will be mostly sunny with a high near 22 degrees. Thursday brings sunny skies and a high near 21 degrees. Friday keeps the cold trend going with a high near 19 degrees. Weekend alert! Saturday night and Sunday have a chance of snow - 30 percent on Saturday night and 40 percent on Sunday. Might want to dust off those snow boots, New York!Hey, make sure to subscribe to our podcast for more weather excitement! Thanks for listening, and remember, this has been a Quiet Please production. Longtime columnist and football author Ian O'Connor attended last week's coronation of John Harbaugh as the new head coach of the New York Football Giants and tells Nestor why Big Blue has high expectations and a low recent bar for the former Baltimore Ravens leader. A fresh start for Harbs in The Big Apple leaves many questions on this side of the ball. The post Longtime New York columnist Ian O'Connor gives Nestor The Big Blue perspective on John Harbaugh as Giants head coach first appeared on Baltimore Positive WNST.
A snowstorm is rolling into the city and suddenly Zohran Mamdani is facing his first real mayoral stress test: do you give New York City a real, old-school snow day… or do you hit the big red “REMOTE LEARNING” button and let chaos unfold on Wi-Fi? We'll break down why this decision is harder than it sounds, how shockingly rare a true NYC snow day actually is, and why the words “log in” strike more fear than sleet ever could. Then, a reminder that cash is a budget with an expiration date—because once it's gone, it's gone, and your debit card does not feel shame the way folded bills do. And finally, today's Honorable Mention takes a hard left across the Atlantic, where historic love letters—written by royals, rogues, and romantics who somehow survived without read receipts—are going on display at The National Archives. Proof that long before texting ruined romance, people were pouring their hearts out with ink, paper, and absolutely no autocorrect. In the headlines on #TheUpdate this Thursday, striking Big Apple nurses and the major hospital systems they're battling are expected to return to the bargaining table, the staffers' union revealed as the work stoppage reached its 10th day.A judge threw out the boundaries of the only congressional district in New York City represented by a Republican, ordering the state to redraw its borders because its current composition unconstitutionally dilutes the votes of Black and Hispanic residents. And in the world of weather, warm Arctic waters and cold continental land are combining to stretch the dreaded polar vortex in a way that will send much of the United States a devastating dose of winter weather later this week with swaths of painful subzero temperatures, heavy snow and powerline-toppling ice.
In today's Update Journal, we attempt to solve three problems that absolutely did not need to coexist in the same episode—but here we are anyway. First up: Who's Right Here? A completely normal New York City bus ride somehow turns into a symposium on stroller rules, priority seating, and the lost art of how you say something without making it worse. Spoiler: the rules are clear, the tone is not. Then, we head to daytime television school with The Maury Method, where we remind everyone that Maury wasn't just vibes, shock value, and dramatic envelopes—it was a newsroom doing real work, with real research, and results that somehow still managed to traumatize daytime audiences for decades. Journalism… but make it unforgettable. And finally, Brandon's Take: “The Longest Week of the Year.” Regents Week arrives, the kids are gone, the staff is minimal, recess feels suspiciously quiet, and suddenly soda doesn't seem like an overreaction. It's a week that tests patience, staffing models, and the very definition of “we've got this.”In the headlines on #TheUpdate this Wednesday, Mayor Zohran Mamdani and U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders rallied with nurses in Manhattan during the ninth day of the largest strike of its kind that the city has seen in decades. They brrr-aved Arctic conditions to make a buck. Vendors, dog walkers and pedicab drivers battled below-freezing weather Tuesday but said it's all in a day's work in the Big Apple. And in Minnesota, federal prosecutors served grand jury subpoenas to officials as part of an investigation into whether they obstructed or impeded law enforcement during a sweeping immigration operation in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area, a person familiar with the matter said.

The closeness of the NHL standings shows no sign of changing as the logjam in both conferences continues into the third week of the month.With the Olympic break approaching, GM's are evaluating rosters with upwards of 30 teams having some post-season aspirations. In fact, a major deal was consummated Sunday evening.But in New York, a second letter to fans in eight years as "re-tool" is the catchword in the Big Apple. However, unlike 2018, Chris Drury's memo comes off as damage control - with the damage already having been done.X: https://twitter.com/NHLWraparoundNeil Smith: https://twitter.com/NYCNeilVic Morren: https://www.linkedin.com/in/vic-morren-7038737/NHL Wraparound Instagram:https://www.instagram.com/nhlwraparound/#NHLWraparound #NHLWraparound.com #ShortShifts #NYCentric #CelebritySeries #HallofFameEdition #StanleyCupdate #SummerCoolers #Smith'sPix #NeilSmith #VicMorren #PatrickHoffman #NHL #SummerCoolers #AnaheimDucks # #BostonBruins #BuffaloSabres #CalgaryFlames #CarolinaHurricanes #ChicagoBlackhawks #ColoradoAvalanche #ColumbusBlueJackets #DallasStars #DetroitRedWings #EdmontonOilers #FloridaPanthers #LosAngelesKings #MinnesotaWild #MontrealCanadiens #NashvillePredators #NewJerseyDevils #NewYorkIslanders #NewYorkRangers #OttawaSenators #PhiladelphiaFlyers #PittsburghPenguins #StLouisBlues #SanJoseSharks #SeattleKraken #TampaBayLightning #TorontoMapleLeafs #UtahMammoth #VancouverCanucks #VegasGoldenKnights #WashingtonCapitals #WinnipegJets #HockeyDayinCanada #OliverEkman-Larsson #BobbyMcMann #MaxDomi #AustonMatthews #ConnorHellebuyck #JurajSlafkovsky #AlexandreCarrier #ColeCaufield #TSN #CraigButton #LeeviMerilainen #JamesReimer #AlexDebrincat #MontrealMaroons #ScottyBowman #AlexOvechkin #WayneGretzky #IlyaSorokin #ZachHyman #BraydenPoint #RyanNugent-Hopkins #LeonDraisaitl #NikolajEhlers #AndreiSvechnikov #SergeiBobrovsky #JacobMarkstrom #DaniilTarasov #AleksanderBarkov #SethJones #PaulMaurice #JoelHofer #JordanKyrou #RyanO'Reilly #MarkStone #MarcoSturm #JeremySwayman #JoonasKorpisalo #DavidPastrnak #MorganGeekie #DonSweeney #NateSchmidt #JacksonLaCombe #BeckettSennecke #KevinFiala #MikaelGranlund #LeoCarlsson #ChrisDrury #JeffGorton #JohnDavidson #ArtemiPanarin #K'AndreMiller #OskarSundqvist #CoonorMcDavid #JimMontgomery #MattBoldy #JustinSordif #RodrigoAbols #RasmusRistolainen #MiroHeiskanen #HenriJokiharju #WillSmith #RasmusAndersson #JackEichel #AlexPietrangelo #ZachWhitecloud #AbramWiebe #JeffreyViel #PatVerbeek #SammyHelenius #PhilGoyette #EarlIngarfield #JonthanToews #RickBowness #GlenGulutzan

My guest today on the Online for Authors podcast is Susie Black, author of the book The Case of the Croaked Coach. Named Best US Author of the Year by N. N. Lights Book Heaven, award-winning cozy mystery author Susie Black was born in the Big Apple but now calls sunny Southern California home. She reads, writes, and speaks Spanish, albeit with an accent that sounds like Mildred from Michigan went on a Mexican vacation and is trying to fit in with the locals. Since life without pizza and ice cream as her core food groups wouldn't be worth living, she's a dedicated walker to keep her girlish figure. A voracious reader, she's also an avid stamp collector. Susie lives with a highly intelligent man and has one incredibly brainy but smart-aleck adult son who inexplicably blames his sarcasm on an inherited genetic defect. In my book review, I stated The Case of the Croaked Coach is the first in the Hannah White mysteries. If you love a good cozy mystery, especially one with a teenage sleuth, you are going to love Hannah White. She wants to be a journalist, and she asks a lot of questions. This time, though, will her questions lead to answers or get her killed? We learn quickly that the football coach isn't the best character. By the time of his death, there are over half a dozen potential suspects - each with ample reason to want him dead. Of course, Hannah should leave this to the police, but she can't. Why? Because they have arrested her friend and aren't looking for other suspects. But Hannah is sure Dean didn't do it. Hannah relies on her friends, her attorney uncle, and a private investigator to help her find the truth. But will she find the truth and get others to believe her in time? This is a fun read - and a great introduction to Susie Black! Trump’s stance on Venezuela’s oil and U.S. role Trump is asserting the U.S. will “run” or strongly direct efforts in Venezuela, with U.S. oil companies going in to rebuild the country’s “broken” oil infrastructure. Trump is quoted saying elections should occur “at the right time” after stabilization. Venezuela’s oil reserves are worth trillions of dollars and recounts Trump correcting a reporter from “billion” to “trillion.” Maduro’s arrest and New York court proceedings Maduro’s first court appearance in Manhattan on narco-terrorism and drug trafficking charges, noting his not guilty plea, assertion that he is a “prisoner of war,” and that he remains Venezuela’s legitimate president. It adds details about detention in Brooklyn and a next hearing set for March 17, 2026. Protests were outside the courthouse vs. the operation and prosecution which were legitimate actions against criminal syndicates. U.S. counter-narcotics narrative The FBI Director is quoted praising Trump’s leadership, claiming agreements with Chinese officials reduced precursor chemicals for fentanyl, and citing seizure quantities (e.g., enough fentanyl to kill 175 million Americans). This weekend America went on the offensive: U.S. Delta Force raided Venezuela, capturing Nicolás Maduro and his wife Cilia Flores in a swift hit-and-exit operation. Former CIA Station Chief exposes the deeper ties Cartel de los Soles, Smartmatic, Dominion, Huawei, China, Serbia, and the CIA all linked in a global election fraud network. This isn't about oil; it's about unraveling the stolen-election cartel that's infected democracies worldwide.Elon Musk dines with President Trump and hints “2026 is going to be amazing,” while Joe demands: no machines, no mail-ins, precinct-level counting with ID only. The pieces are falling into place fraud exposure is coming fast. Meanwhile, Trump's UN Ambassador Waltz declares the Western Hemisphere off-limits to Russia, China, and Iran, and Trump puts Denmark on notice over Greenland. Protests erupted across the U.S. and world, with paid agitators (including Central CSO-linked groups) pushing division while Venezuelans call out the liberal mobs.NYC's new socialist Mayor Zohran Mamdani kicks off with a subway photo-op and vows to replace “rugged individualism” with collectivism. His team's agenda—tenant director Cea Weaver, Muslim call-to-prayer pushes, and radical rhetoric signals Dearborn and Minneapolis-style transformation for the Big Apple. NYC is cooked, the blueprint is clear, and the left's vendetta is in full swing. This is the weekend the tide turned, wake up, get loud, or watch it all collapse.
