Working weekends, flights on Air Force One, and jockeying for position to ask press secretary Karoline Leavitt a question in the briefing room is all a part of life as a White House correspondent, according to Mary Margaret Olohan. As a member of the “new media” in the White House, Olohan says the interactions between the corporate media reporters and journalists like herself are "by and large been pretty polite," but notes little differences between the two groups remain. For example, new media do not have a permanent seat in the briefing room, and Olohan jokes it is a little like the “Titanic because there is the elite first class and they sit in the seats, and then in the aisles you have the second class of the citizens who don't get seats.” Olohan, author of “Detrans: True Stories of Escaping the Gender Ideology Cult,” spent years reporting on culture issues, including for The Daily Signal, before becoming the White House correspondent for The Daily Wire. She joins the “Problematic Women” podcast to explain the dynamic between the new and corporate media in the briefing room, and to share what will surprise most Americans about working as a White House correspondent. Also on today's show, we discuss what Democratic Socialist Zohran Mamdani's victory in New York City's mayoral primary means for the Big Apple and the Democrat Party. Plus, we react to Brett Cooper joining Fox News as a contributor. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

And on The Treat, Freaky Tales co-director Ryan Fleck hails a film that's a warm slice of Big Apple life.
This week, “Gotham Fish Tales” director, Rob Maass, teaches us how to find “floaters” and urban false albies, we hack a bass apart after marinating it in mom's bathtub, explain why toxic crabbing provides a bad workout, and use dangly earrings to score illegal tautog.
Chuck Rocha and Mike Madrid are joined by legendary columnist and commentator Ruben Navarrette to unpack the political earthquake in New York City. From Andrew Cuomo's downfall to Zohran Mamdani's insurgent rise, the trio dives deep into why Mamdani winning New York City's Democratic Primary isn't a left vs. right moment—it's a populist revolt shaking the Democratic establishment to its core. They explore how early voting, outsider campaigns, and a growing anti-establishment sentiment are redefining the electorate—and why Latino voters are at the heart of it. Plus, Ruben drops powerful reflections on Mexican-American identity in the age of mass deportations and viral resistance. It's Thursday, June 26th, A.D. 2025. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard on 140 radio stations and at www.TheWorldview.com. I'm Adam McManus. (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Jonathan Clark and Adam McManus Iranian Christians vulnerable to arrest, falsely accused of espionage Christians in Israel and Iran are experiencing fear and uncertainty during recent conflict between the two countries. Christians already face arrest in Iran for simply leading a house church. An Iranian believer told International Christian Concern, “The Iranian government is now arresting anyone caught taking or sharing photos and videos with news outlets. Christians are especially vulnerable, as they risk being accused of espionage and deemed a threat to national security. If their faith is discovered, the consequences are far worse.” Iran is ranked ninth on the Open Doors' World Watch List of the most difficult countries to be a Christian. Hebrews 13:3 says, “Remember the prisoners as if chained with them—those who are mistreated—since you yourselves are in the body also.” ICE arrested 11 Iranian nationals, one served as Iranian army sniper U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement arrested 11 Iranian nationals over the weekend. The individuals entered the U.S. illegally, and one of them reportedly served as an Iranian Army sniper. Officials are on high alert for extremist attacks after the U.S. bombed Iranian nuclear facilities on Saturday. Iran has threatened to carry out retaliatory terrorist attacks using sleeper cells in America. Trump thrilled that NATO paying their fair share The NATO military alliance of western nations held its 2025 summit in the Netherlands this week. NATO countries agreed to raise defense spending to 5% of annual gross domestic product over the next 10 years. That's up from the current target of 2%. This comes after U.S. President Donald Trump has called on European countries to contribute more to the defense budget of the alliance. Listen to comments from Trump. TRUMP: “This is a monumental win for the United States, because we were carrying much more than our fair share. It was quite unfair, actually. But this is a big win for Europe and for actually, Western civilization.” Muslim socialist beat Andrew Cuomo in NYC Dem primary for mayor A Muslim socialist won the Democrat primary for New York City mayor on Tuesday. Remarkably, Zohran Mamdani, age 33, defeated former Democratic Governor Andrew Cuomo in the race. (Watch his election night victory speech) MAMDANI: “Tonight, we made history. (cheering) In the words of Nelson Mandela, ‘It always seems impossible until it is done.' (cheering) My friends, we have done it. (cheering) I will be your Democratic nominee for the mayor of New York City.” (cheering) Mamdani has served as a New York state lawmaker. He campaigned on making the Big Apple more affordable, calling for free public transit, rent freezes, and universal childcare. If elected, he would be the city's first Muslim mayor. President Trump sounded off on Truth Social. He wrote, “Zohran Mamdani, a 100% Communist Lunatic, has just won the Dem Primary, and is on his way to becoming Mayor. We've had Radical Lefties before, but this is getting a little ridiculous. … He's got [U.S. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez]. … and even our Great Palestinian Senator, Cryin' Chuck Schumer, ,,, groveling over him.” Two-thirds of churchgoers attend weekly The Exploring the Pandemic Impact on Congregations project released a new report on U.S. churchgoers this month. The survey found two-thirds of respondents attend services weekly. And over 80% report stable or increased attendance compared to five years ago. The survey noted a positive outlook: “Many more respondents said their religious faith and spirituality had strengthened since the pandemic. Likewise, financial giving has increased, as has involvement and volunteering.” In terms of newcomers, 38% of churchgoers began attending their church since the COVID-19 pandemic. Of these new attenders, nearly a third never attended church before or are returning to church after years of not participating. The mission is part of NASA's effort to open space to private companies. Axiom is among several American space companies hoping to put their own space stations into orbit. The Polish astronaut on the mission said space “is not only for the biggest agencies anymore—space is for everyone.” Psalm 8:3-4 reminds us, “When I consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers, the moon and the stars, which You have ordained, what is man that You are mindful of him, and the son of man that You visit him?” 8 Worldview listeners gave $3,375 to fund our annual budget And finally, toward our $123,500 goal by Monday, June 30th to fully fund The Worldview annual budget for our 6-member team, 8 listeners stepped up to the plate. On their June 24th show, BT and Sal were fired up dissecting the simultaneous slumps of both New York baseball teams. They pinpointed Pete Alonso's alarming lack of production as a key reason for the Mets' brutal 1-9 run, especially against division rivals. For the Yankees, the hosts tore into their persistent offensive inconsistencies, particularly their inability to get timely hits and their lineup issues, leading them to question whether both Big Apple teams are heading for a fiery freefall or if these are merely temporary blips. The discussion also included a humorous recount of Evan Roberts' unfortunate Mets game experience.

From his homeland in New Zealand to the Big Apple, to Boston, where he formed one of the most influential bands, Galaxie 500, to the sophisticated sounds of Luna with his now wife Britta Phillips, Dean Wareham has accomplished so much in his forty-plus-year career. Settling in New York in the mid to late 1970s, the veteran musician caught some of the most anarchic acts of the decade, such as The Ramones, and Richard Hell and the Voidoids, before relocating to the city's sister scene in Boston to attend HU, where he met his future friends, and bandmates Naomi Yang, and Damon Krukowski, and the rest is, well you get the idea. With one foot forward, a swift wind of whispering words left in his wake, Wareham doesn't look back. His poetic prolificacy is pure, passionate, and personal, and nothing is more liberating than keeping the tonal truck running. For this season premiere of The Self Portrait Gospel Podcast, we're honored to have Wareham on to tell his sonic story, while simultaneously exploring the past, present, and future of music and melodic memory. We touch on our shared obsession with Dylan, his new album "That's The Price Of Loving Me," returning to his home in LA, and certain events that have taken place, the legacy of Galaxie 500/Luna, and much more.

Growing up in the 70's, soccer was barely a footnote when it came to the sports culture here in the States. The North American Soccer League was trying to compete with the other leagues, but the game just didn't have the appeal that it does in much of the world. It lacked the star power that other sports had. Until… In 1975, the New York Cosmos signed Edson Arantes do Nascimento, the Brazilian superstar known across the globe simply as… Pele. That's right, Pele was coming to America… North America, NYC, The Big Apple… and with it, soccer was about to experience a boom in the U.S. Michael Lewis was just a young sports reporter looking to get a beat covering one of the four sports he grew up loving… Baseball, football, basketball, and hockey… Soccer wasn't on that list. Not even close. But the young scribe was given a shot to cover the Rochester Lancers of the NASL… and his career and life were never the same. Over 50 years later, he's written 9 books on the sport, including Soccer for Dummies and Alive and Kicking: The incredible but true story of the Rochester Lancers. That opportunity to cover the NASL allowed Michael to get a firsthand look at what he calls the biggest “BANG” for soccer in the United States: the arrival of Pele. He tells us how the global sensation arrived with no ego as an ambassador to the sport that saw him win 3 World Cups for Brazil in 1958, 1962, and 1970. He went from the pinnacle of the sport to a fledgling league, and did everything he could to bring attention to the sport he was famous for playing… Famous everywhere except maybe in the States…. But that was about to change. Pele was a man of the people, and that was apparent everywhere he went. He would talk with the guys in the kitchen of the restaurant as he was about to be introduced at his inaugural press conference in America. He would sign autographs for hours and give the jersey off his back to fellow players. In 1977, he led the Cosmos to the Soccer Bowl, winning in the quarterfinals in front of almost 78,000 fans at Giants Stadium before winning the Soccer Bowl in Oregon three weeks later. After the match, Brazilian journalists on hand to cover their famous countrymen carried him on their shoulders and paraded him around the locker room in jubilation at the conclusion of the superstar's incredible career. Michael Lewis was in that locker room and says almost 50 years later it's still the most amazing postgame celebration he's ever witnessed. Next summer, Lewis will cover his 14th World Cup… and when the finals of that tournament are played at Met Life Stadium, right where Giants Stadium used to stand, his career will have come full circle to when a young reporter was given a beat he didn't really want… and set him on a course that changed his life and gave him the opportunity to cover the greatest player and ambassador the sport has ever known… Pele. This week on Autonomy Markets, Grayson Brulte and Walter Piecyk discuss Waymo's return to the Big Apple, a revealing new Waymo rider survey, political grandstanding in Texas aimed at delaying Tesla's robotaxi launch, and the emergence of potential new players in autonomous driving sector, Meta and OpenAI.Waymo announced plans to resume testing in New York City this summer, the first time operating in the city since 2021. While the move signals growing confidence in their technology, regulatory hurdles remain, as current New York state law prohibits fully driverless operations until at least 2026 when a new law could come into effect. While Waymo is actively focusing on scaling operations and expanding into New York, a recent rider survey offers rare insight into the company's future ambitions. Questions about luxury positioning, loyalty rewards, ride reservations, and premium services suggesting that Waymo is exploring a strategy that moves beyond their tenuous limited partnership Uber, and towards a fully integrated premium mobility platform.Meanwhile, a group of Democratic lawmakers in Texas sent a letter to Tesla urging the company to delay its planned driver-out robotaxi launch until new State autonomous vehicles laws take effect in September. Based on social media reports, Tesla is not waiting and they will be launching Robotaxi in the coming days. Then there is the growing ambitions of both Meta and OpenAI. Will they be the next companies to potentially enter the autonomous driving sector?Episode Chapters0:00 Waymo Eyes NYC Expansion3:05 Waymo Loves New York as They Leave Uber Behind4:15 Waymo's Regulatory Path Forward in New York7:47 Waymo's LA & Bay Area Expansions9:06 Waymo Fleet Size10:54 What is Behind Waymo's Lack of Highway Service?13:03 Is Waymo Getting Closer to Unlocking SFO?14:23 Waymo Rider Survey34:35 Texas State Representatives Tesla Letter38:53 Zoox40:13 Kodiak/Roush Partnership44:11 Does Meta and OpenAI Have Autonomous Driving Ambitions?48:51 Applied Intuition50:39 Next WeekRecorded on Thursday, June 19, 2025--------About The Road to AutonomyThe Road to Autonomy provides market intelligence and strategic advisory services to institutional investors and companies, delivering insights needed to stay ahead of emerging trends in the autonomy economy™. It's a big week for the somewhat-surging, last-place Baltimore Orioles who have shown some vital signs in recent weeks and now arrive in The Big Apple to face scuffling the scuffling New York Yankees at The Bronx. Luke Jones and Nestor discuss the Birds finding some semblance of momentum to keep the season alive this summer. The post Luke Jones and Nestor discuss Orioles trip to Yankee Stadium and finding momentum to keep season alive first appeared on Baltimore Positive WNST.
Early voting in New York City's mayoral primary race is well underway, and the rest of the country is watching. That's because this year's publicly funded city election is a battle for the future of the Democratic party, and the two frontrunners — a disgraced, corporate-backed Democrat and an upstart, young progressive — reveal a political schism that stretches far beyond the Big Apple.Today on Lever Time, David Sirota speaks with one of the race's surprising front-runners, democratic socialist Zohran Mamdani, to explore how he's using campaign finance reforms and other innovative approaches to take on New York's former governor, Andrew Cuomo. David also talks with former New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio to understand what's truly at stake in the election
Most of the political attention these days is centered in D.C, but there's a pretty fascinating primary contest happening just a train ride north in New York City. The Democratic primary for mayor of the Big Apple features a crowded field of Democrats, including some well known names like former Governor Andrew Cuomo, who was forced to resign after multiple sexual harassment allegations against him in 2021, and some new names like New York State Representative Zohran Mamdani, a Democratic Socialist who has little experience politically but a knack for social media. He also happens to have the support of another young, well known New York City liberal, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio Cortez. In some ways, this race is very New York City with storylines that could only happen there. In fact, the New York Times asked the all- important “what's your bagel order” question. But there are also shades of the tension in national Democratic politics between the more pragmatic and more progressive wings of the party happening in this race.Plus, Donald Trump, an outsized influence in and on the city, is a big factor here as well. To make sense of it all, I sat down with Nick Fandos, who's covering every twist and turn of this race for The New York Times. He's the city's politics and government reporter.Early voting has already started, and the primary is on Tuesday, June 24th. BT and Sal open their show with a fiery dissection of the Yankees' and Mets' concurrent losing streaks, bemoaning the "circus" of errors, baserunning blunders, and clutch hitting failures plaguing both teams. Sal highlights the Mets' perpetual struggles against the Braves, while BT dissects the Yankees' inexplicable offensive drought without Judge and their abysmal .077 batting average in extra innings, despite starting with a runner on second. The hosts express a morbid curiosity about the depth of their respective team's struggles, questioning accountability from management to players amidst the sheer sloppiness gripping both New York baseball franchises.

Today I'm joined by Ryan Mandelbaum, author of Wild NYC: Experiencing the amazing nature in & around New York City. When we think of immersing ourselves in nature most of us are likely guilty of imagining far off wilderness locations but Ryan is passionate about exploring the incredible diversity of nature that can be found in the urban environment & in particular in NYC. Urban areas were often chosen for their rich natural features that would have benefitted wildlife as much as the humans that were drawn to these areas. We discuss how connecting with nature has enriched their life in numerous unexpected ways, finding community in the often isolating city existence. Even if you are a complete beginner, there has never been a better time to become a naturalist. Simply start on your own street & begin observing the natural world. If you slow down & look there are untold secrets to be revealed from Raven's nesting on the Brooklyn bridge, to humpback whales & even mountain ferns on the side of a railway viaduct. As we begin to recognise & appreciate the amazing nature on our doorsteps, we likely become advocates for our natural heritage & this ripples out into the world in untold ways, catalysing social movements as well as environmental change. Learn more about RyanRyan F. Mandelbaum is a science writer, naturalist, & educator. You can find him searching for critters across the five boroughs before returning home to Brooklyn to observe birds & moths from the roof of their apartment. Ryan has written about the natural world of NYC for the New York Times, Scientific American, Audubon Magazine, & their newsletter eyy, i'm walkin' here. Ryan volunteers for the New York State Breeding Bird Atlas, the Finch Research Network & the Feminist Bird Club. An actor is very fortunate to have a multi-season run on a series. An actor is even more fortunate to get to see a series through to its natural conclusion. Lauren Cohan went above and beyond that with her Walking Dead journey. Not only did she play Maggie in over 100 episodes of the main series, but then she got to go on to headline a spin-off series opposite Jeffrey Dean Morgan, and that spin-off series earned her her very first executive producing credit and now her very first directing credit as well. She's a key component of one of the biggest television empires ever created, and she's making the most of the opportunities that franchise affords her - opportunities she's earned. The Walking Dead: Dead City picks up a number of years after the events of the main series. When Hershel (Logan Kim) is kidnapped by the Croat (Željko Ivanek) and taken to Manhattan, Maggie must turn to Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) for help. While Maggie does manage to make it off the island with Hershel, Negan is pressured to remain by The Dama (Lisa Emery). Season 2 kicks off about a year later with the New Babylon Federation conscripting the residents of The Bricks to head into Manhattan for an expeditionary mission tied to their agenda to ultimately retake it. Maggie agrees to go, but only if no one else from her community is forced to do the same. So back to Manhattan she goes, along with a stubborn Ginny (Mahina Napoleon) and a stowaway Hershel. After powering through five episodes of Season 2 as an executive producer and playing Maggie trying to survive yet another perilous mission in the Big Apple, the time has some for Cohan to put on yet another hat. With the release of Season 2, Episode 6, “Bridge Partners Are Hard to Come by These Days,” she is officially a director. In celebration of the milestone achievement, Cohan joined me for a Collider Ladies Night conversation to discuss her early days on The Walking Dead, her experience advocating for herself when her initial series regular contract concluded, how she approached stepping into the executive producer role with Dead City, and how she felt about taking on an extremely ambitious episode for her very first venture as a director.
