TW - Parachute Jump fails! On today's episode of The Red Eye Podcast, we take a slight diversion away from the tales of cabin crew and pilots on board the aircraft, to talk to someone who actively chose to jump out of an airplane! Skydiving is a popular hobby for many who like the thrills and adrenaline rush of jumping, and the incredible views of our beautiful planet as they descend. But what happens when the parachute that is meant to keep you alive as you fall to Earth, fails? We're talking to Justin Davies, who on one of his first solo parachute jumps suffered from a mishap with his canopy, leading him to come crashing down to the ground without a soft landing. Here about what happened on the day, and how he felt when he realised he was going to hit without a parachute!Send us a text! Dan Mandis (WTN-Nashville) fills in for Gary and Eric. House Speaker Mike Johnson expects the Big Beautiful Bill to pass early Thursday morning. Overnight as Red Eye began, it seemed President Trump's Big Beautiful Bill was all but dead in the House with unexpected opposition by 5 Republicans and 8 no votes/ Tennessee Congressman Scott Desjarlais joined the show to talk about the stalled bill and whether or not he thought it will eventually pass / Reaction from Newt Gingrich and Congressman Jim Jordan / As early Thursday morning progressed, Trump spoke to the Repubican holdouts by phone and House Speaker Johnson noted they now had the votes to pass the bill / And of course, Senate Democrats repeated the same yawn inducing hyperbole on the dangers of the bill. One of the skills that Flight Attendants spend the most time training for, is the one you don't see very often! And thank goodness. Cabin Crew are trained in dealing with big emergencies, like plane crashes, where there may be multiple casualties. They're also trained in triage and giving emergency medical care for these big incidents. Here at The Red Eye, we hear more stories of the crew using those life-saving skill off the aircraft instead of on it. And this is one of those stories! When 3 crew, headed for a fun trip in LA, become the first on the scene of a major road traffic accident, their emergency skills training kicks in, and they set about saving lives till the paramedics can take over...Music Credits for The Roadside Rescue CrewDespite The Traffic - Wes HutchinsonGTA Type Beat - DyallaSound Effect by freesound_community from Pixabay Sound Effect by floraphonic from PixabaySound Effect by Stylianos Danezis from Send us a text! Then two speaker topics were explored from the conference, including Sharon Parker's SMART model for how to prevent burnout in your employees, and then moving to Lynda Gratton's presentation on the value of mastery in your career.  The final segment of cultural shares includes two items to watch, featuring Paul Rudd and Tim Robinson in Friendship (in theaters now) and National Geographic's Endurance about Sir Ernest Shackleton's journey on Disney Plus. This one's got it all: life lessons, boner pills, vintage baseball philosophy, and a surprising amount of reflection (with just enough filth to balance things out). The Kid and crew dive into the tribalism of niche baseball games (blooperball beef, anyone?), the pitfalls of post-breakup gossip, and how real friendships survive the bullshit. The crew breaks down their personal timelines decade-by-decade, from awkward childhoods and jizz-filled puberty to adulthood where Viagra and whiskey start becoming your two best friends. We get tips on dodging relationship landmines, dissect the sneaky ways guys self-sabotage to get out of relationships, and land a few gut punches about growing older, doing what you love, and avoiding unnecessary mouths—human or otherwise. Oh, and Red Eye 1.0 still sucks.

This week, we're busting out the slammer and potentially wishing we were back in it depending on who you ask, as we team up with the canary-clad copper to take down a star-studded mob in a wildly stylish and outlandishly conceived blockbuster starring a charming old man incapable of doing action scenes, that's been seemingly buried in the Disney vault in the years since. It's 1990's Dick Tracy, directed and produced by Warren Beatty, and starring Beatty, Madonna, Al Pacino, Glenne Headly, Charlie Korsmo, Mandy Patinkin, Dustin Hoffman, Seymour Cassel, William Forsythe, Charles Durning, Dick Van Dyke, Paul Sorvino, James Caan, Kathy Bates and Catherine O'Hara. Most of these stars are unrecognizeable under the monstrous makeup required to make them look like their vintage crime comic strip counterparts, but Pacino made enough of an impression with a wildly comedic take on his typical mobster persona that he netted an Oscar nom for Best Supporting Actor, losing to Joe Pesci for GoodFellas. While Beatty is at least a decade too old to be proper fit as the movie's lead, it's his ambition behind the camera that makes the movie such a curiosity all these years later, as the film is either an enchanting dreamscape filled with unsolvable How Did They Do That movie magic puzzles, or a steaming pile of neon-drenched puke depending on which of our two hosts you ask. But that's okay, as we have some heated disagreement this week that is maybe the closest we've yet come to vintage Siskel & Ebert kinda stuff. Plus: We've both been to the theater and are happy to sound off on Ryan Coogler's latest as JMo and Hayley both greatly enjoyed Sinners in the cinema, and Justin's got a bonus theatrical field report on Drop, the latest from Happy Death Day director Christopher Landon. If you'd like to watch Dick Tracy before listening along to our conversation, good luck finding a physical copy, and Disney will seemingly never stream this thing on Disney+ -- possibly for rights reasons to avoid paying anything more to Warren Beatty, or possibly because they are cowards who are ashamed of the fun movie they made. Either way, it's tough to find outside of renting it on YouTube. Other works discussed in this episode include Creed, Fruitvale Station, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Bram Stoker's Dracula, Puss In Boots: The Last Wish, Mad Max: Fury Road, Loki, The Accountant, The Perfect Storm, Bridge of Spies, War Horse, The Adventures of Tintin, Red Eye, Trap, Reign of Fire, Surrogates, The Expendables 2, The Last Boy Scout, Princess Mononoke, Hook, This Is The Tom Green Documentary, Cutthroat Island, Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl, G20, The Silence of the Lambs, Longlegs, Resident Orca, Avatar: The Way of Water, Blackfish, Batman ('89), Batman Returns, Batman Forever, Batman & Robin, Who Framed Roger Rabbit?, X-Men, Blade, The Shadow, The Phantom, The Rocketeer, Darkman, Speed Racer, Furiosa, Challengers and Sin City, among others. We'll be back (more than likely) next week, with another special in-theaters spectacular, as 100+ episodes after we covered the original film, it is tax season once again and we're back for more Ben Affleck and Jon Bernthal in The Accountant 2. So look for that next Friday, and until then we'll see you at the movies!!
