Chris Hamilton is a finance expert with 15 years of experience, on a mission to expose how the healthcare system is stealing from the middle class. Chris uncovered a harsh reality: insurance brokers and companies have zero incentive to lower your costs. Brokers even make commissions on rising premiums, sometimes earning bonuses for keeping prices high. The Affordable Care Act, rather than boosting competition, turned healthcare into big business. What was once a market of 12-13 insurance companies has now consolidated to just 4 major players, dominating the industry. With fewer choices and rising costs, the average family is paying $24k in premiums annually, plus another $5-6k out of pocket—all while the healthcare giants profit. That money, which should be building the American dream—going toward college savings, a home, or retirement—is being swallowed by a broken healthcare system. For the middle class, these rising costs are an invisible thief, robbing families of financial security. Pastor Philip De Courcy charts us through the murky waters of indecision by answering the following questions: God has given us the stewardship of making decisions in life, but can you expand on the blessing and challenge this presents? What are common reasons behind indecision? Should someone seek to have "peace" before moving forward with a decision? When is it appropriate to take a step of faith? What posture should we have before the Lord when making decisions? Nobody would deny that the healthcare industry in America is inefficient, expensive, and frustrating. Things have only gotten worse with the passing of the Affordable Care Act in 2010, and now medical bills are the leading cause of personal bankruptcies. Chris Hamilton educates companies on how to take control of their health insurance costs, while also providing access to superior treatment in a variety of facilities. He explains the incentive structures of these monolithic insurance companies, the Big Pharma cartel, and the private equity-fueled hospital conglomerates, and how they calculate the rate they charge for medical procedures and prescription drugs. Chris Hamilton is a Partner at Hotchkiss Insurance, which provides business and personal insurance, risk management, and employee benefits consulting. In his role, he leads the employee benefits practice by advising consultants and specialists focused on helping companies improve performance and profitability. With nearly 20 years of experience in corporate finance and insurance, Chris has worked with mid-market, regional, and national employers. In this episode: With rising healthcare costs, businesses struggle to provide valuable benefits to employees. Many entrepreneurs don't understand the forces driving these costs and the inequities within the healthcare system. How can businesses manage healthcare expenses effectively without compromising coverage? According to insurance expert Chris Hamilton, escalating healthcare costs stem from industry consolidation, rising provider expenses, and vague insurance company practices. He explains that many businesses purchase traditional fully insured plans, which may involve high premiums and conflicts of interest with insurers. Chris advocates for partially self-funded health plans, in which employers assume part of the risk and gain more control over costs. This strategy enables companies to customize their plans, engage in direct contracting with providers, and offer enhanced benefits at lower prices. In this episode of Systems Simplified, Adi Klevit interviews Chris Hamilton, a Partner at Hotchkiss Insurance, to discuss strategies for controlling healthcare costs and enhancing employee benefits. Chris shares insights into partially self-insured plans, the role of direct contracts in reducing expenses, and his experience with a direct agreement that significantly cut the cost of surgery.
Well the confirmation process for Trump 2.0's cabinet members has begun, and a clown car filled with barely-functioning senators have already made their presence felt. We will listen to a few clips from that, pick through some other news up front, including the comment Donald Trump made about the need for an External Revenue Service which has made many people hope that this will be the thing that replaces the IRS. Insurance Insider, Chris Hamilton, returns for a brief follow up to the now forgotten December assassination of Brian Thompson, and to make a congressional wish list for industry reform in the coming years. Rate and review GTP on iTunes: Click Here to Rate and Review. View/Download Trial Documents Case Details: Discussing a landmark premises liability case, trial lawyer and Hamilton Wingo LLP partner Chris Hamilton explains how he held McDonald's responsible for ongoing lack of security and secured justice for the families of Texas A&M college students Denton Ward and Lauren Crisp, who died following a late-night trip to a McDonald's in College Station, Texas. In February 2012, Denton Ward and Lauren Crisp, along with Samantha Bean and another friend, went to McDonald's, where Denton Ward was violently assaulted by Marcus Jones and a mob of other attackers. Lauren Crisp and Samantha Bean carried a bleeding Denton Ward to his SUV in an attempt to get him to the hospital. The driver, Samantha Bean, ran a red light and collided with another car. Denton Ward was killed and Lauren Crisp, who was unrestrained and tending to Denton Ward's injuries, was also killed. Despite the defense's attempts to shift focus away from McDonald's ongoing lack of concern for customer safety at a restaurant location with a history of late-night violence and to blame Samantha Bean for reckless driving, a Brazos County, Texas jury assigned 97 percent of the responsibility to McDonald's and returned a verdict of $27,000,000 in damages. Your fitness is going to affect your performance over the long run, because it's your energy level." - Chris Hamilton Chris Hamilton (Hotchkiss) needs no introduction on the show at this point; this is his fifth appearance! This time, Chris introduced me to the world of Continuous Glucose Monitoring (CGM) by putting a CGM in my arm at the very start of the show (be sure to listen to the whole episode to hear what my glucose level was!). We talked about why Chris tracks his health so intensely, what he does on a daily basis to stay fit and healthy, and why he believes fitness is extremely important, even if you work at an office job. Chris and I also discussed how we can incentivize employee's to care about their health, and why that's such a struggle for employers. Narrative drives so much of the thinking today, especially when it comes to the markets. To prevent becoming unduly influenced by it, it's important to ground ourselves in data. We should ask first: what is the data saying? And then we can judge whether the current prevailing narratives are consistent with it. So, what is the current data telling us? To find out, we're fortunate to speak today with Chris Hamilton, publisher of Econimica. If you're not familiar with the name, I'm confident you've come across a number of the prodigious amount of charts it publishes across a wide range of macro topics like the economy, demographics & the housing market. And the one he's most worried about? Demographics. The USA's population is set to start shrinking for the first time ever by 2035. That's just a little more than 10 years away. Returning guest Chris Hamilton unpacks this topic by answering the following questions: How far into the dating process should you get others involved in vetting a man's character, and is this an ongoing process? If a lady doesn't have believing family members she can turn to for help in discerning a man's character, how should she go about seeking this out? Would "vetting" look different in a long-distance relationship? How can you extend grace, understanding that no one is perfect, while still being discerning? Are there questions the lady can ask that may give insight into the man's heart? Do you have any advice for how the woman can stay sensible / sound-minded in a relationship? How do we stay humble ourselves in the vetting process, not assuming in our hearts that we deserve the perfect man, and not viewing ourselves more highly than we ought? There is a better way to construct a healthcare plan, and that is why I had Chris Hamilton, Partner at Hotchkiss Insurance back on the @SelfFunded with Spencer podcast after spending the last episode discussing Sales Best Practices only. You can view Chris' episode on Sales mastery here - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VrdbOgRxYis&t=1205s Chris came from the finance world before coming to benefits, and what drew him to our industry was that he kept seeing very sophisticated employers with huge healthcare plan spend, continually acting helplessly when it came to their renewals. Chris couldn't understand why they didn't try harder to save money on their healthcare spend, even when it was the 2nd or 3rd biggest line item on their P/L. This problem, plus witnessing a personal issue where his brother went bankrupt from out-of-pocket costs from a medical procedure, sent him down the path to being one of the best brokers in the benefits business today. Chris Hamilton is a Partner at Hotchkiss Insurance. He is also one of the best sales consultants I have met in the employee benefits industry, for which many of his peers agree. Chris, like me, didn't get into sales until his 30's, having spent the bulk of his career before that in investment banking. His ability to discuss financials, coupled with his experience in Mergers and Acquisitions, helped prepare Chris to have very complex conversations with business owners. Chris is the antithesis of your "stereotypical" salesperson. He doesn't speak so fast you can't follow his words. He doesn't use sales tricks or focus on always closing the deal. He simple brings expertise, along with a deep level of integrity, to his prospects to build rapport and trust. In short, Chris is a modern benefits consultant, and our entire industry could learn from the example he has set! --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/spencer-harlan-smith/support
In this episode Chris Hamilton unpacks the biblical mandate of honoring our parents as adult children, and also answers the following questions: How does our relationship with our parents change over the span of our lifetime from cradle to grave? Parents may have certain expectations for their children in regards to their education, career, who they should marry, and where they should live. How can a daughter communicate differences in these areas to her parents in a way that is still respectful? For those with unbelieving parents, or those who have a challenging relationship with their parents, how would you encourage them and how can they still build up those relationships? If you don't agree with a decision your parents make, or they are doing something sinful, how should you exhort them? Looking to the future, what counsel would you give a woman for how she can cultivate her relationships with her in-laws? Roy Holden Jr performed some work for Spectrum Cable in Irving, Texas, at the home of 83-year-old Betty Thomas. While off duty, he returned the next day and stabbed her to death. Police apprehended him after he stole her credit card and went shopping. Currently, Holden is serving a life sentence for murder. A Dallas County jury found Spectrum Cable or Charter Communications responsible for 90 percent of the civil liability this week. After previously awarding them $357 million (£2.9m) in compensatory damages last month, the jury awarded them $7 billion in punitive damages. Thomas' family's lawyer, Chris Hamilton, said after the trial: "This was a shocking breach of faith by a company that sends workers into millions of homes every year." “This verdict justly reflects the extensive evidence regarding the nature of the harm caused by Charter Spectrum's gross negligence and reckless misconduct. “For the safety of the American public, we can only hope that Charter Spectrum and its shareholders are listening.” According to Charter, Holden is solely responsible for the killing, and the verdict will be appealed. "Our hearts go out to Mrs. Thomas' family in the wake of this senseless and tragic crime," the company said. “The responsibility for this horrible act rests solely with Mr. Holden, who was not on duty, and we are grateful he is in prison for life. “While we respect the jury and the justice system, we strongly disagree with the verdict.” According to the company, the murder was 'not foreseeable' and that relevant background checks were conducted. A news release from the company read: “The law in Texas and the facts presented at trial clearly show this crime was not foreseeable — and the plaintiffs' claims of wrongdoing by Charter are categorically false. “We are committed to the safety of all our customers and took the necessary steps, including a thorough pre-employment criminal background check — which showed no arrests, convictions or other criminal behavior. "Nor did anything in Mr. Holden's performance after he was hired suggest he was capable of the crime he committed, including more than 1,000 completed service calls with zero customer complaints about his behavior.” If you like TRUE CRIME TODAY - Be sure to search and subscribe wherever you download podcasts!
