The road trip crosses the Ohio River into Kentucky, and this stop is unlike any other we've made, because this legend has a real body count. On the eastern edge of Louisville, a massive railroad trestle spans Pope Lick Creek, and for roughly eighty years locals have said something lives under it.Half man, half goat, with short horns and a voice that isn't its own. The Pope Lick Monster doesn't chase you. He calls you, mimicking the voices of people you trust, luring trespassers out onto seven hundred and seventy feet of open steel with no walkway, no railing, and no escape when a freight train enters the span.In this episode I dig into the trestle's history and the three competing origin stories, from the escaped circus freak to the goat-sacrificing farmer, and trace the goatman's much older family tree through Maryland, Texas, and all the way back to the goat-legged wild gods of the ancient world. I cover the 1988 short film that put the monster on the national map and the fight it started with the railroad, and I walk carefully through the real, documented deaths on that bridge, including the young woman killed there in 2016 while visiting Louisville for a haunted attraction tour.You'll hear encounter accounts from the Floyds Fork bottoms, including teenagers who heard a voice calling one of them by name, a driver who watched a horned figure stand up on the rail at dusk, and a survivor who says she never decided to walk onto that trestle at all.Then the episode takes a turn most people don't expect, because Kentucky is quietly one of the best Sasquatch states in the country. He'll be in the house telling tales from his years in the business and updating s all on what's new in worlds under the water. Edd Sorenson (born 1959) is a cave diver known for numerous rescues of lost or trapped divers in underwater caves in the United States, particularly in Florida's Vortex Spring and Blue Spring State Park. Sorenson has been credited as the only diver with multiple successful rescues in completely submerged caves.[5] He is one of the most experienced body recovery divers in the world. Sorenson is originally from Portland, Oregon and moved to Marianna, Florida where he owns Cave Adventurers dive center. KISS Rebreathers referred to Sorenson as a "top instructor." His students have included hosts of Jonathan Bird's Blue World and the YouTube channel "Dive Talk," with both programs having featured Sorenson.Sorenson has explored caves with Brian Kakuk. In 1999, he joined International Underwater Cave Rescue and Recovery (IUCRR) as one of the original members and in 2003 founded Cave Adventurers dive center in Marianna, Florida near Florida Caverns State Park. Due to his experience with the Vortex Spring cave system, Sorenson was involved in the 2010 search for missing diver Ben McDaniel. After an extensive search, Sorenson believed that McDaniel was not trapped in the cave because of lack of evidence and disturbance to the cave commonly seen after a diver passes through. He stated, "The last place I searched was pristine, without a mark that a diver had been there. It would be impossible to go through that restriction without making a mark on the floor or ceiling. He's not in there. In 2012, Sorenson completed four successful underwater cave rescues. In February 2019 Sorenson, along with Mike Young,[a] successfully conducted two body recoveries from Dudú Lagoon in the Dominican Republic. In April 2019 Sorenson successfully rescued Josh Bratchley, a British cave diver who assisted in the rescue of 12 boys and their soccer coach from a Thai cave, from Mill Pond Cave in Flynn's Lick, Tennessee. Investigators determined her former caretaker, Rita Lang, who had been let go the day prior, was a person of interest. Crane was located a hundred miles away inside Lang's vehicle with unexplained injuries. Lang was charged with kidnapping.Sixteen days later, eighty-four-year-old Nancy Guthrie was reportedly abducted from her home in the Catalina Foothills of Tucson, Arizona.Tony Brueski and Robin Dreeke examine the structural parallels between the two cases and whether the caregiver-orbit theory applies to the Guthrie investigation. Nancy lived alone with a predictable routine and a rotating set of individuals with access to her property and schedule. Investigators have publicly stated her family has been cleared.The central evidentiary challenge to this theory is the doorbell camera footage. The individual on Nancy's porch reportedly did not know the camera was present — a reaction inconsistent with someone who had regular access to the property.
