Season 5: Episode 211As the ag tech sector matures, the industry is finally shifting its focus from flashy innovations to solving real problems on the ground. In this episode of North American Ag Spotlight, Chrissy Wozniak explores how the ag tech space is becoming more practical, profitable, and proven — especially when it comes to addressing the core issue that keeps most farmers up at night: labor. Joining the conversation from St. Louis, Missouri is Connie Bowen, Founding Partner of Farmhand Ventures, a venture firm focused on the future of work in U.S. agriculture.Connie shares how her background — spanning from engineering to hands-on farm work in Oregon's Willamette Valley — shaped her laser focus on labor as agriculture's most pressing challenge. She discusses how investor enthusiasm surged after high-profile acquisitions like Monsanto's purchase of Climate Corp, but notes the disconnect between capital flowing into ag tech and the slow pace of on-farm adoption. That's where Farmhand Ventures comes in — helping startups build with the farmer, not just for them.Throughout the conversation, Connie breaks down what makes an idea investable in the ag space, why founders must collaborate closely with growers and farmworkers from day one, and how including the voices of those doing the work creates smarter, more successful tools. She explains that while sustainability and climate concerns may attract outside capital, these investors often fail to understand the farmer's “hair-on-fire” problems — like labor shortages and razor-thin margins — which must be addressed first.Connie also talks about mistakes she sees ag tech startups making, including overpromising, chasing the wrong markets, or designing without true farm-level feedback. She emphasizes the importance of field trials, user input, and ongoing proof, comparing startup success to a sports team that has to earn its wins every season. Looking ahead, she predicts robotics will play an increasingly critical role in specialty crops and emphasizes the need for tech to help elevate workers into higher-value roles rather than displacing them. This episode highlights a turning point in ag tech — one where the best solutions come from close collaboration, practical thinking, and a deep respect for the realities of farm work.Learn more about Connie and Farm Ventures at https://www.farmhandventures.com/#agtech #smartfarming #agricultureNorth American Ag is devoted to highlighting the people & companies in agriculture who impact our industry and help feed the world. What happens when we teach science and math not just as technical subjects—but as opportunities for wonder, worship, and wisdom? In this summer flashback episode, Davies Owens is joined by renowned classical educator Ravi Jain, co-author of The Liberal Arts Tradition and a leading voice in the recovery of classical science education. Too often, classical schools are seen as focused on the humanities, while math and science remain untouched by the classical tradition. But Ravi makes a compelling case for why recovering natural philosophy—the pursuit of truth in the created world—is vital to forming whole human beings. From sketchbooks and pendulums to Pascal, Newton, and Galileo, this conversation explores how students can rediscover the beauty and order of God's creation—and how science class can become a place of discovery, not just memorization.

How2Exit: Mergers and Acquisitions of Small to Middle Market Businesses
Watch Here: https://youtu.be/Vc2XhcablroAbout the Guest: Monica Garcia Duggal is an investment banker turned entrepreneur, financial consultant, and breathwork evangelist. With decades of experience spanning institutional finance, entrepreneurship, and real estate, Monica brings an unmatched blend of analytical rigor and human insight. She's also the author of The Power of Breath: The Gift of Self-Actualization Through Meditation and is currently developing offerings in personal and business finance to help people scale or exit with grace—and clarity.Summary: In this refreshingly unique episode of the How2Exit podcast, host Ron Skelton sits down with Monica Garcia—a former investment banker, serial entrepreneur, and breathwork advocate—for a dynamic conversation that fuses the hard numbers of finance with the soft power of emotional intelligence. Monica unpacks her journey from English major to high-level financial analyst, her path to launching and exiting a successful company, and the surprising role breathwork played in helping her—and her clients—make smarter business decisions. What starts as a conversation about buying and selling companies becomes a masterclass in how personal awareness, emotional regulation, and intentional calm can make you not only a better businessperson, but a wealthier one. With over 30 years of financial experience, Monica proves that deep breaths and deep spreadsheets are not mutually exclusive—they're complementary. Key Takeaways:Monica's Unique Origin Story: She started as an English and rhetoric major aiming for law school but fell into investment banking through a temp job—and never looked back. From Analyst to Operator: After earning her Series 7 and 63 licenses and getting deep into finance, she pivoted into real estate investing, entrepreneurship, and consulting, eventually launching and selling a company after 16 years. The Exit Process: It took Monica and her team three years to prepare their business for a successful exit, including rebranding and building SOPs that made the company operate independently of its founders.Post-Exit Transition: Unlike many founders, she stayed on for three years post-sale to support the acquirer's team—a 100-year-old company that had previously struggled with a hands-off acquisition.Breathwork as a Secret Weapon: Monica discovered breathwork during a personal health crisis and now teaches it as a tool to improve decision-making, reduce stress, and regulate nervous system responses—especially during high-stakes transactions like exits.Combining Logic and Intuition: Monica advises founders to create a “contract with themselves” about their exit terms and to use breathwork to stay grounded when emotions or outside pressures threaten to override those decisions.Breathwork = Better Returns: She claims that making decisions from a calm, regulated state can improve your financial decision-making by up to 30%.Beyond Money: Wealth, according to Monica, is not just financial—it's emotional, physical, and relational. Breathwork enhances all of it.--------------------------------------------------Contact Monica onLinkedin: https://www.linkedin.com/in/monicagduggal/Website: https://www.monicagarciaduggal.com/--------------------------------------------------
Cynthia Moore went from chasing applause on stage to helping others heal in silence. Her story is a powerful reminder that true transformation begins when we tune in—to our bodies, our intuition, and our past. In this soulful conversation, Cynthia shares how creativity, trauma, and healing intertwined to shape her calling as a therapist and author.Cynthia Moore is an award-winning playwright, author of "Dancing on Coals," and mental health counselor.3 Takeaways:(1) Resilience Emerges from the Inside Out: Cynthia reflects on how trauma shaped her early identity—and how real strength came from learning to sit with discomfort and listen inward.(2) Healing Is a Spiritual Practice: Whether through meditation, movement, or writing, Cynthia believes that tending to our inner world is essential for integration and peace.(3) Be All of Who You Are: Midlife is not a crisis—it's a sacred invitation. Cynthia urges listeners to express their whole selves and honor the voice within. This episode invites you to slow down, reflect, and embrace the messy beauty of personal evolution. Let Cynthia's journey inspire your own.

This week I'm joined by Tanya Gallagher, MD and founder of Limitless Leadership, an award-winning leadership development consultancy. Tanya brings a wealth of wisdom to the space of leadership development, and what stood out to me most in our conversation is just how practical and human her definition of extra-Ordinary leadership is.We dig into the difference between good, bad, and terrible leadership, and what it really means to take ownership. It's a conversation that will shift how you see your role as a leader. We discuss psychological safety, promotion dynamics, and the underrated power of what Tanya calls “contracting conversations”—those small yet powerful exchanges that can transform working relationships. If you've ever avoided a conversation because it felt awkward, if you've ever felt resentment building under the surface, or if you're leading people without ever asking what they need from you, this episode is for you.

In this episode of The Environmental Justice Lab, I break down the findings from my latest research publication, entitied “Race, Class, Gender, and Waste: A Spatial Analysis of Landfill Siting and Intersectional Inequities in South Carolina.” This article is not simply a data-driven study; it is an investigation into how race, gender, income, and geography intersect to determine who ends up living next to the landfills in South Carolina… and who doesn't. I explain why landfills are still important in today's environmental justice movement. I talk about the history of waste-related activism, and discuss how communities, particularly Black women, Hispanic women, and female-led households in poverty, are disproportionately burdened by the health, environmental, and social harms of landfill placement. The episode goes beyond statistics. It's a reflection on the academic resistance to justice-focused research in engineering, an ode to cross-institutional collaboration, and a rallying cry for policy change, intersectional thinking, and true community engagement.

Divorce can feel like a storm that rolls in fast—no forecast, no shelter, no time to prepare. One day, you're a husband, a full-time father, a provider with a plan. The next, you're staring at an empty home, a fractured schedule with your kids, and a mountain of legal and emotional upheaval. It doesn't just split assets—it splits your identity. You may find yourself questioning your worth, your role, and your future. The routines that grounded you—picking up your kids from school, sitting at the dinner table, even just being part of a family unit—can vanish overnight. Finances take a hit. Friendships grow awkward. Even the strongest men can feel blindsided, powerless, and utterly alone. If you're a dad navigating this storm, I want you to know something crucial: you're not weak for struggling, and you don't have to weather it alone. This month—Men's Mental Health Awareness Month—is the perfect time to drop the armor, silence the shame, and take a real, honest look at what you're carrying inside.Because you're not just fighting for yourself—you're fighting for your presence in your children's lives, for your future peace of mind, and for the version of you that's still in there, waiting to rise.Let's talk. Let's be honest. Summer Flashback: Virtue in Action with Tim DernlanHow do we move virtue from a vague school value to a transformative life habit? In this special Summer Flashback episode, we revisit one of our most impactful conversations with Dr. Tim Dernlan, joined by two of his high school students. Recorded five years ago but more relevant than ever, this episode explores how one classical Christian school brought virtue to life through intentional student formation—and yes, even lunchtime conversations at Five Guys. From Aristotle's golden mean to Biblical foundations, this isn't just a theoretical discussion. You'll hear how weekly student groups, guided reflections, and peer accountability made virtue tangible, relational, and long-lasting. If you've ever wondered how to bridge the gap between what students know and how they live, this episode is for you.

How2Exit: Mergers and Acquisitions of Small to Middle Market Businesses
About the Guest:Callum Laing is not your average M&A expert. A serial entrepreneur and the author of four books (Agglomerate, Progressive Partnerships, Boardroom Blueprint, and Entrepreneurial Investing), Laing is also the founder of Unity Group, the Veblen Director Program, and Guild. His work focuses on democratizing board access, simplifying capital raising, and helping legacy business owners scale without losing control. His innovation in the agglomeration model challenges the assumptions of private equity and redefines how small businesses can achieve scale and liquidity.Summary:In this episode of How2Exit, guest host Roger Glovsky dives into the nuanced world of M&A and business trust-building with Callum Laing—an entrepreneur, author, and architect of the agglomeration model. With over 100 M&A transactions under his belt, Laing reveals why the most valuable asset in business isn't capital—it's trust. From forming influential board networks to designing incentive-aligned holding companies, Laing explains how deeply human psychology shapes scalable business outcomes, especially when preparing to exit. The conversation spans innovative M&A structures, the underestimated power of personal connections, and why tech-savvy entrepreneurs must still master the art of building real relationships—especially in an AI-driven world.Key Takeaways:Boards as a Competitive Advantage: A functional, diverse, and supportive board not only adds credibility during an exit but also ensures operational continuity—making a business more attractive to acquirers.Access vs. Opportunity: The Veblen Director Program was designed to break barriers for overlooked professionals (e.g., those without elite credentials), helping them land their first board seats and contribute meaningfully.Guild as a Capital-Raising Network: Laing's second venture, Guild, evolved to teach entrepreneurs how to raise capital by first understanding investor needs—flipping the traditional pitch-first model on its head.Trust Multiplies Velocity: Trust accelerates deal flow, reduces friction, and increases the efficiency of capital and collaboration. Building a public profile plays a critical role in earning it.Give First, Gain Later: Inspired by concepts like the Boulder Thesis and Adam Grant's Give and Take, Laing emphasizes building relationships by offering value before asking for anything in return. The Agglomeration Model: Laing's signature innovation—business owners join a public holdco by exchanging private shares, keeping operational control while benefiting from scale, liquidity, and mutual incentives.AI Will Amplify the Human: As AI automates tasks, the human edge will lie in trust-building, empathy, and long-term relationship management—skills no algorithm can yet replicate.Longevity Over Hype: Contrary to Silicon Valley's growth-at-all-costs model, Laing designs business systems with staying power, informed by centuries-old governance principles.--------------------------------------------------Contact Callum onLinkedin:Website:--------------------------------------------------
