Three of the SMQBs get together in this episode to hash out a few things. The big debate is - should Pete Rose be in the Hall of Fame now that the commissioner says the ban lifts after death. They also talk about the Shoeless Joe Jackson drama. They talk golf, giving props to Scheffler's latest win... This week, Patrick & Dave are joined by PC Tunney to continue to cover the ongoing drama that is the NBA and NHL Playoffs. In the NBA Playoffs, the New York Knicks closed the book on a surprising shellacking of the defending champion Boston Celtics. They meet the Indian Pacers in the ECF, in a resumption of a bitter rivalry, with the highest stakes possible. Out West, the Minnesota Timberwolves waited to see who would emerge from the Denver vs OKC series. In the NHL Playoffs, the guys discuss the Carolina Hurricanes' dominant thrashing of Dave's Capitals, while the city of Toronto braced itself for more disappointment. Meanwhile, Edmonton vs Dallas, in the WCF, looks to be an actual battle for the ages, on paper anyway. The guys conclude by talking about how Shoeless Joe Jackson and Pete Rose have been deemed eligible for the Baseball Hall of Fame. The timing of these decisions is a bit head-scratching, but the guys break it all down for you here. So TUNE IN!This week's hosts... SEASON 3 EPISODE 127: COUNTDOWN WITH KEITH OLBERMANN A-Block (1:45) HEADLINE: BIDEN'S CANCER DIAGNOSIS: The concern here, obviously, is Joe Biden’s health and comfort. I know him enough, however, to believe that it has occurred to him that the timing of this terrible news carries with it one extraordinary irony. The car in which all of the Biden Acuity Truthers and Reporters and Book Writers and Finger Waggers has just stopped suddenly and they have all been ejected from the car they were climbing over each other in order to drive faster and faster. And you deserve it utterly, Jake Tapper and Alex Thompson and Jonathan Allen and Robert Hur and Politico and The Washington Post which yesterday MORNING printed a column that began “The verdict is in. Joe Biden is to blame.” (. ) SPECIAL COMMENT: TRUMP THREATENS SUPREME COURT. Trump has now descended to making threats against the Supreme Court. Under his own name? Indirectly and stochastically. Under the names of others whose menacing he re-posts? Directly. Directly. And specifically towards the justices HE himself appointed. This country is now in this frozen moment of madness in which its president isn’t just ignoring and trying to veto the judiciary and the Supreme Court, but actually encouraging violence against its members. Trump has also now amplified at least 14 posts demanding the arrest of former FBI Director James Comey, including one claiming Comey’s dumb photo proves the assassination attempt against Trump last year was quote “an inside job” and another calling for quote “public military tribunals” for President Obama – a post that was actually captioned “Re-truth if you want public military tribunals” which Trump… re-truthed. B-Block (34:20) THE WORST PERSONS IN THE WORLD: Trump thinks a soccer stadium in New York will be used in the L.A. Olympics. Somebody high up at Twitter-X turns Grok into a white supremacist holocaust denier. I wonder who?!? Jake Tapper and CNN and Politico climax years of political malpractice by exploiting Biden's mental lags and ignoring Trump's total mental breakdown. B-Block (45:40) SPORTSBALLCENTER: Three baseball managers fired in ten days? By the three teams most interested in forcing a lockout and no season in 2027? That's a coincidence. And a second look at the Joe Jackson/Pete Rose decision. C-Block (54:46) THINGS I PROMISED NOT TO TELL: It's graduation season so time to look my graduation and the phone call the Friday before it when I asked the registrar if I WAS graduating and she said "Yes? No?"See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Last Tuesday, MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred dropped a bomb on the baseball community with his announcement that the lifetime bans of 17 individuals were lifted, effective immediately. With the ban lifted, all 17 are now eligible for the Baseball Hall of Fame, but let's be real; Pete Rose and 16 others are now eligible for Cooperstown. Jim covers what happened and walks through the list of all of the individuals impacted. Then, he takes a quick look into the Hall of Fame cases of Shoeless Joe Jackson, Eddie Cicotte, Benny Kauff, and Rose (17:35). Finally, he reviews what the 2028 Classic Baseball Era ballot could look like, which is the first ballot any of these players could potentially land on (36:47).
On this week's episode, we discuss the ramifications of Pete Rose, Shoeless Joe Jackson, and other deceased players reinstatement from baseball's permanently ineligible list. list, paving the way for them to appear on Hall of Fame ballots as soon as 2027. From there, we discuss Brandon Hyde's firing as the manager of the Orioles after six seasons and a last-place start, Evan Longoria's official retirement as a member of the Rays, his legacy, and his Hall of Fame chances, and Matt Carpenter's retirement
Sox fans! Our Chicago White Sox were embarrassed this past weekend by the Chicago Cubs. When will the pain stop? When will the Sox be competitive again? It's a sickening feeling to realize the good times might be very far away. We are hanging onto prospects, hope and the feeling that it can't be this way forever. There are silver linings... not many... but they are there. Jonathan Cannon has had a nice month of May and Miguel Vargas was tough to stop on the North Side. Little sizzle and no steak. Pete Rose and Shoeless Joe Jackson are reinstated? When, if ever, will they be inducted into the Hall of Fame? Thank you for the continued support. Go Sox. #WhiteSox

The all-time hit king, Pete Rose, is no longer banned from Major League Baseball, seven months after his death. A new MLB policy announced this week ends permanent bans from the sport once the person dies. The change impacts Rose and 17 other former players, including "Shoeless" Joe Jackson. Ever since he was banned in 1989 for gambling on baseball while he was a player and manager of the Cincinnati Reds, the debate over whether Rose should be inducted into baseball's Hall of Fame has been a constant subject for sports journalists and talk programs. Rose's removal from the ineligibility list makes an induction possible. FOX News Senior Congressional Correspondent and diehard Cincinnati Reds fan Chad Pergram covered Rose's banishment back in the '80s and joins the Rundown to discuss the legendary player's complex legacy, the politics surrounding Rose, and the likelihood he will get a shrine in Cooperstown. In this episode of "Normal World," Dave Landau, 1/4 Black Garrett, and Angela open with a sketch mocking the shifting rules and contradictions around the global event in 2020 — like distancing guidelines, mask debates, and “trust the science” mantras. The group then dives into a real story about a high school-organized sperm race — yes, an actual televised event meant to raise awareness about infertility. Rivalries between USC and UCLA make the stakes high. Don't bet on the wrong jizz. The conversation shifts to Pete Rose and Shoeless Joe Jackson finally becoming eligible for the Hall of Fame, sparking memories of steroid-era baseball and childhood sports heroes. Alex Stone, Cincinnati Reds Pete "Charlie Hustle" Rose would have been a slam-dunk Hall of Famer if he never bet on baseball and been banned. The all-time MLB leader with 4,256 hits, Rose won three batting titles and was the 1973 NL MVP. "Shoeless" Joe Jackson had an all-time career batting average of .356 career -- the fourth highest in MLB history. But he was banned for life, along with seven of his teammates from the 1919 Chicago "Black Sox" for throwing the World Series.
