Los habitantes de Tila hicieron lo que parecía imposible: corrieron a las autoridades municipales y a la policía que los violentaban. Indígenas mayas ch'oles se organizaron para administrar sus tierras y la vida pública. Lo que parece una utopía en tierras zapatistas, en Chiapas, sur de México, para los ejidatarios - como se les llama- es más bien vivir en alerta para no perder sus tierras y preservar su integridad. Es lo que retrata el documental “Un lugar más grande” del realizador francés Nicolas Défossé. Su sonidista y diseñador de audio, Martin de Torcy hizo "Escala en París". "Un lugar más grande" es una apuesta cinematográfica. En tiempos de videos verticales de un puñado de segundos, el equipo optó "por un documental de cine directo": dos horas sin narrador, fotografía precisa y diálogos captados durante años para entender y sublimar la realidad de los habitantes de Tila. Diálogos mayoritariamente en maya ch'ol traducidos "por varias personas de la comunidad que hicieron ese gran trabajo de traducción". "Con ese modo de narración no podíamos tener el control de lo que se cuenta. Fue un largo camino, pasar tiempo con los compañeros, tanto en momentos donde sabíamos que iban a suceder cosas, pero también en muchos momentos donde teníamos que estar al pendiente, filmando o sin filmar. También, estar bastante tiempo con la gente para formar parte del paisaje. Creo que para nosotros fue un gran logro haber podido narrar la historia de esa forma", cuenta Martin de Torcy, sonidista y diseñador de audio del documental.  Un recorrido de más de cinco años, muchos viajes, con sesiones de dos semanas. Excepcional fue poder ingresar a esta comunidad que desconfía del exterior. Esto es obra del realizador Nicolas Défossé, que conoce la realidad chiapaneca como la palma de su mano: "lleva muchos años viviendo en Chiapas, como 25 años y ha estado muy involucrado en organizaciones de medios con organización zapatista. Fue la gente de Tila la que invitó a Nicolás. Fue un privilegio enorme poder estar ahí, estar acobijados por la gente del pueblo, que siempre están muy al pendiente de nosotros". Efectivamente, el Estado de Chiapas en el sur de México es un territorio de tradición zapatista heredada de la revolución mexicana y de las reivindicaciones que surgen en 1994 con la figura del subcomandante Marcos. Figura que marcó un antes y un después para los campesinos y sobre todo para las comunidades indígenas, como es el caso de los habitantes de Tila, que están organizados según la figura del "ejido": una porción de tierra que ha sido cedida por el Estado para su explotación agrícola, pero no solamente. Las urnas no entran En el caso de Tila, en 2015 los habitantes expulsaron a las autoridades municipales por abusos y violencia. De hecho, cualquier proselitismo político está prohibido, las urnas no entran. Los autos ajenos a la comunidad son escrutados, puesto que la tierra está en disputa y desde el 2020 la violencia incrementa para obligarlos a ceder.  "Un lugar más grande" deja en evidencia que para los ejidatarios es imperativo defenderse, ahuyentar a los partidos políticos, a los que dividen la comunidad. Cuidar la tierra que les da de comer también. Al dejar fuera a las autoridades, son los propios habitantes los que se ocupan de la justicia con un código local muy preciso y con penas de cárcel, de la vialidad, de la fiesta patronal, de la basura, de la seguridad. Y todo esto, organizado en Asamblea general donde los asuntos los decide la comunidad.  "La máxima autoridad del pueblo, es el Comi", explica Martin de Torcy, "que es nombrado por tres años, no es alguien que está haciendo una carrera política, es alguien que recibe el cargo de ser la voz del pueblo por tres años. Entonces las decisiones se toman desde la Asamblea, que es un ejercicio político muy importante dentro de la comunidad. Todos tienen voz y de hecho fue algo impresionante para mí ver la capacidad que tiene toda esa gente en expresarse en público, de involucrarse en la toma de decisiones. Entonces, todos tienen voz y tienen que involucrarse también en toda la organización del pueblo." Organizarse por convicción y necesidad Suena utópico, sobre todo cuando la fiesta del pueblo es todo un éxito y se concluye sin incidentes o cuando las víctimas de violencia de género son escuchadas y protegidas. Pero se trata también de una necesidad, al desafiar a las autoridades municipales que intentan acapararse de las tierras, los habitantes cargan con una orden de captura y no pueden salir del pueblo. Es más, el documental está dedicado a Carmen López Lugo y a Domingo Lugo Ramírez, figuras de la comunidad, que fueron asesinados por paramilitares en el 2024. Desde el final del rodaje, la violencia ha incrementado "y hoy en día está mucho más cerrado por la tensión. Es mucho más difícil que gente de fuera vaya ahí a apoyarlos y a poner el foco en lo que sucede". La presencia paramilitar se hace sentir en la zona desde la época del levantamiento zapatista en los años 90, "y desde ese entonces existe esa violencia, que ahora está otra vez en un nivel muy alto". Un nivel de violencia que ha incrementado en todo Chiapas, alimentada también por la presencia de grupos criminales. Hindi po tayo pumipili kung ano ang ating dadalhin, kundi kung ano ang ating pinaniniwalaan na iyon ang mabuting balita para sa inyo. Bakit nga ba patungo sa libingan si Maria Magdalena? Ang layunin ni Maria Magdalena at ng ibang alagad ay pumunta roon para magbigay sana ng maayos na libing kay Hesus—isang huling pagkakataon ng paglilingkod, isang “last ritual”. Kaya naman noong Linggo ng umaga, inipon nila ang kanilang mga pabango at nagtungo sa libingan upang iayos ang katawan ni Hesus. Hindi sila pumunta para tingnan kung Siya ay nabuhay, kundi para pahiran ng langis ang Kanyang katawan. Ang Mga Batong Humaharang at ang Pagbibigay-Access ni Hesus Sa kabilang banda, nakarating sa mga pinunong pari ang balita na mabubuhay si Hesus, kaya’t hiniling nila sa mga Romano na i-seal ang libingan. Nilagyan ito ng malaking bato, lubid, at wax, pati na ng Roman Seal, upang walang makabukas nito; ang sinumang sumira sa selyo ay maaaring patayin. Ngunit hindi na inabot ni Maria ang ganitong tagpo dahil naigulong na ang bato nang sila ay makarating doon. Hindi na rin nila kinailangang tangkain na buksan ito. Ang ganitong pagharang at pagkontrol sa katawan ni Hesus ay hindi na bago sa mga gawain ng mga political and religious leaders. Kinokontrol nila at sila ang may access sa lahat ng bagay: sa pera, sa kaayusan, at sa mga ritwal. Sila ang nagpapasya at nagtatakda kung sino ang matuwid, kung sino ang makasalanan, kung sino ang karapat-dapat, at kung sino ang mga hamak. Tila paulit-ulit na nakukulong si Hesus at sinasaraduhan ang pagkakataong malapitan Siya. Napakayaman sana natin sa resources, ngunit dahil nakaharang ang mga bato, pare-pareho tayong nahihirapang makamit ang access sa biyaya ng Panginoon. Lalo na para sa LGBTQ community, alam kong danas ninyo ang maraming batong iniharang—mga sandaling “access denied” kayo, sinasabihang bawal o hindi kabilang. Ngunit patuloy na ipinapaalala ng Panginoon na ang access ay ibinigay na Niya; walang nakaharang para tayo ay dumiretso, manalangin, at maniwala sa Kanya. Kahit may mga pumipigil sa pagtatayo ng ganitong simbahan, dito ninyo mararanasan ang pag-ibig ng ating Panginoon. Ang Mga Ebidensya ng Muling Pagkabuhay 1. Ang Mga Nakatiklop na Telang Lino Nang pumasok si Pedro sa libingan, nakita niya ang mga telang lino, at ang telang nakatakip sa ulo ni Hesus ay nakatiklop at inilagay nang hiwalay. Para sa mga Hudyo, mahalagang igalang ang katawan at gawin itong disente kaya ibinabalot sa lino. Praktikal din ito dahil wala silang embalsamo, at ang lino ang sumisipsip sa mga likidong lumalabas sa katawan. Ang ritwal ng pagbabalot sa telang lino ay ang kaganapan ng kamatayan. Kung ninakaw ang katawan, walang magnanakaw ang mag-aaksaya ng oras na tanggalin ang lino lalo’t ito ay didikit na sa sugatang katawan ni Hesus. Nawala ang katawan hindi dahil ito ay kinuha, kundi nabuhay si Hesus at hindi na Niya kailangan pang manatiling nakabalot. Ang simpleng telang ito na maayos na nakatupi ay ebidensya na Siya ay bumangon. Aplikasyon: Sa ating buhay pananampalataya, dapat din tayong magpakita ng ebidensya na tayo ay kasamang muling nabuhay. Kailangan nating kumawala sa mga “telang lino” na bumabalot sa atin na nagpapakitang tayo ay patay; kung hindi, magiging parang mga “mummy” o walking dead tayo na naging komportable na sa maling pakikitungo at panggigipit. Ipinapakita ng Panginoon na kayang pagtagumpayan ang kamatayan, at dapat din tayong mag-iwan ng ebidensya ng Kanyang muling pagkabuhay. 2. Ang Luklukan ng Awa (Ang Dalawang Anghel) Nakita ni Maria ang dalawang anghel na nakaupo kung saan inilagay ang bangkay ni Hesus, isa sa ulo at isa sa paa. Bakit sila nakaupo? Kung titingnan natin ang Exodo 25, inilalarawan doon ang Kaban ng Tipan (Ark of the Covenant) kung saan may dalawang kerubin sa magkabilang dulo ng “luklukan ng awa” (mercy seat). Doon nagtatagpo ang Diyos at nagaganap ang pagbabayad-sala. Ang mga anghel sa libingan ay nakaupo dahil hindi na nila kailangang magbantay kung maghahandog ng dugo ang mga tao. Naganap na ang pinakamainam na handog at nakamit na ang pagpapatawad; bukas na ang mesa para sa lahat, at may direkta na tayong ugnayan sa Diyos. Konklusyon: Tayo ang Patunay Paano tayo niligtas ng kamatayan ni Hesus? Hindi lamang ito nakatuon sa mismong kamatayan sa krus. Ang kaligtasan ay makikita sa Kanyang kapanganakan, ministeryo, kamatayan, muling pagkabuhay, at ang Kanyang mga ginawa sa pamamagitan ng mga alagad. Dahil sa muling pagkabuhay, ang kamatayan sa krus ay hindi isang pagkatalo kundi isang mapagpalayang tagumpay ng buhay laban sa kamatayan. Ang pagkabuhay muli ay hindi lamang mangyayari pagkatapos nating mamatay; maaari natin itong maranasan araw-araw. Mararanasan natin ito tuwing tayo ay tumutulong na alisin ang mga gumagapos sa mga tao, sa ating pagmiministeryo, at sa tuwing ipinapangaral natin ang mabuting balita. Ang pinakamagandang patunay na muling nabuhay si Kristo ay hindi ang puntod na walang laman, at hindi rin ang krus. Tingnan ninyo ang inyong katabi: ang bawat isa sa atin at kung paano natin ipinaparanas ang kabutihan ng Diyos, ang ating buhay mismo ang siyang pinakamagandang patunay. Muli, si Kristo ay buhay. Current Wave: Financing Structures More recent cases center on dealer fees (also called platform or financing fees), with plaintiffs alleging that: ·        These fees are effectively hidden finance charges ·        They should be disclosed under the Truth in Lending Act (TILA) Courts in Minnesota have allowed these claims to proceed past motions to dismiss, rejecting arguments—at least at the early stage—that such fees are merely "seller's points" exempt from disclosure. While these rulings are preliminary, they have: ·        Opened the door to costly discovery ·        Encouraged additional class actions and enforcement cases ·        Created significant uncertainty regarding how courts will ultimately resolve the issue The Expanding Role of the FTC Holder Rule Another important litigation risk involves the FTC Holder Rule, which allows consumers to assert claims against loan holders that they could assert against installers. This creates potential exposure for: ·        Lenders ·        Secondary market participants ·        Securitization investors Although liability is generally capped at the amount of the loan, the rule can still create substantial risk, especially where plaintiffs seek rescission of contracts. Practical Guidance for Industry Participants The speakers emphasized that companies operating in the residential solar space must take proactive steps to manage risk. Key recommendations include: 1. Strengthen Compliance and Oversight Conduct comprehensive reviews of sales and marketing practices Ensure clear, accurate, and compliant disclosures Align legal and compliance teams with customer service functions to identify emerging issues early 2. Enhance Dealer and Partner Management Perform rigorous upfront diligence on third-party installers and sales organizations Implement ongoing monitoring and auditing Act quickly to address complaints or misconduct 3. Improve Transactional Transparency Reassess how pricing and fees—particularly dealer fees—are structured and disclosed Evaluate potential exposure under TILA and state consumer protection laws 4. Conduct Portfolio-Level Risk Assessments Carefully diligence solar loan portfolios prior to acquisition Consider litigation and regulatory risks embedded in originated assets 5. Stay Ahead of Policy and Enforcement Trends Monitor federal, state, and local regulatory developments Engage with industry groups and legal advisors Anticipate—not react to—regulatory changes What Lies Ahead: The Next 18–24 Months Looking forward, the panelists expect: Continued and expanding enforcement activity, particularly at the state level More class actions and private litigation, fueled by early court rulings Greater clarity regarding dealer fee treatment, as courts begin to rule on the merits Increased scrutiny of sales practices, especially those involving third-party dealers Importantly, the regulatory and litigation environment is unlikely to ease in the near term. Instead, companies should expect more investigations converting into enforcement actions and greater coordination among regulators. For instance, on December 22, 2025, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau issued an advisory opinion that states the Truth In Lending Act (TILA) does not apply to certain "earned wage access (EWA) products," and it rescinds a proposed interpretive rule issued under former CFPB Director Chopra that classified these products as credit subject to TILA with their fees considered finance charges. The Center for Responsible Lending expressed opposition to this latest advisory opinion. On January 13, 2025, the House Financial Services Committee held a hearing on financial technology that included consideration of draft legislation on "Earned Wage Access," which CRL refers to as "payday loan apps." Around 200 nonprofits have written to Congress about their opposition to the version of this bill as introduced last session of congress.
