I recently had an opportunity to do an in-person interview with my guest, Karen Federighi, in Naples, Florida. Since we were not in a studio and were fortunate to find a somewhat quiet public room in a hotel there, you may still hear occasional local sounds.  But thanks to expert audio editing by Evan and Simply Beautiful Media, those will be kept to a bare minimum. Let’s talk about how to get speaking gigs as well as how to get paid for speaking. You need to get in front of those who are hungry for your message. This is the third and final episode in this series on public speaking training and I have a LOT of hands-on, actionable content, lots of resources and links as well as tips for you. Whatever your area of expertise, you need to package it so that it appeals to an audience who is looking for that information. If there is no audience for it whatsoever, you need to develop a new area of expertise. You can find these areas by searching Google or looking online to see what is selling. You topics must match the needs of your target audience. It will help if you are or can become an expert in your niche. Event hosts tend to prefer specialists over generalists. Connecting with the right people will let the public know of your expertise and your availability. It's also a very good way to get referrals. Word-of-mouth is very powerful. Always be courteous, enthusiastic, and confident. You will begin to get calls from event planners that you may not even remember speaking to. Welcome back. I hope the previous episode inspired you to do more public speaking. I think once you have a system down for how to prepare and present, your confidence will skyrocket. Today we will continue training on this topic. Today we are continuing with Part 2 on the topic of public speaker training, dealing with you as a presenter, your content and your audience. Last time we talked about the importance of preparation and how to prepare. As a review… we talked about our attitude, skills and preparation. We discussed the importance of opening impact and how to craft it. The content itself has 3 parts. The introduction, the body and the conclusion. With your INTRODUCTION your audience gets to know who you are, why you're qualified to speak to them, and that THEY are going to benefit you’re your presentation. Here you set the scene by telling your audience what you are going to tell them. Within the BODY, you will organize your core material into key points - remember, keep it to four or five main points. Keep each point short and focused. Provide enough supporting information to make the point clear. Each point should have a beginning, middle, and an end. Each point should be reinforced with a real-life example, an anecdote, some statistics, and maybe some humor from time to time if you feel it’s suitable. Emphasize the benefits or importance of each point. Then , in your CONCLUSION - Make it clear that you have arrived at the conclusion of your presentation. Summarize the key points, but don't introduce new items. If you're going to have a question-and-answer period, have it now. Finish in an upbeat manner, make a final impact statement, and give a call to action to the audience members. The better you know what you're going to say, the more comfortable you will feel, so practice makes perfect. Today we are talking about how to get prepared for public speaking. This is a really important topic for us as Christian life coaches because we want to make the most of our speaking opportunities. And, there are coaches, whose primary method of delivering coaching, is to do so before an audience. I am one of those rare people who actually enjoy public speaking. It wasn’t always that way, but now I look forward to sharing my message with lots of people. I don’t think I am a great speaker but when I get in front of a group, my talk just flows out of me. Some people refer to this as anointing. But I definitely think it’s God because without a sense of purpose to my talk, it’s just so much noise… and even bores me. So that said, I think knowing your PURPOSE deeply is a key ingredient to being comfortable. Make sure that your PURPOSE compels you to share … knowing that some part of God’s plan may be left incomplete if you don’t get your message out. Whether you write or speak, God has given you a unique voice, meaning a special way of conveying your message that will resonate with certain people. It is your job to fine tune your presentation skills to engage powerfully with as many in your audience as possible. Preparation is everything and today we are going to talk about what you can do, to make sure each public speaking engagement is stellar. Nichole has been miraculously healed of bipolar disorder and many other mental illnesses, suicide attempts, hospitalizations, abuse, and addictions. She has been medication free for many years now.
