The Power of Rivers: Ecology, Culture, and Reimagining Nature with Robert MacFarlane This discussion was a dream come true! Have you ever wondered what rivers can teach us about life, culture, and sustainability? If so, you're not alone. In his captivating book Is a River Alive?, Robert MacFarlane explores the profound relationships between humans and rivers across the globe, revealing how these waterways are vital to ecological health, cultural identity, and future conservation efforts. This podcast delves into MacFarlane's insights, shared stories from his travels, and practical ways you can foster guardianship of our rivers. Whether you're a nature lover, a concerned citizen, or simply curious about the natural world, this journey into the heart of rivers will inspire you to see these vital waters in a new light. You'll also want to consider the ways rivers have been your guardian all along. Why Rivers Matter: The Ecological and Cultural Crisis MacFarlane's exploration begins in England, where the health of rivers has dramatically declined due to pollution, agricultural runoff, and climate change. Only 14% of English rivers are in good ecological health, a stark figure illustrating the severity of the crisis. MacFarlane compares this decline to Rachel Carson's opening scene in Silent Spring, where poison falls from the skies, harming wildlife and communities. Yet, the crisis in England isn't solely chemical; it's also cultural. Our disconnection from rivers has led to a loss of identity and stewardship.  MacFarlane's travels take him across four continents, revealing inspiring examples of rivers that are thriving and being reimagined as beings with rights. For instance, in Ecuador, the river Rio Los Cedros is protected by groundbreaking legal rights enshrined in the constitution. Similarly, in India's Tamil Nadu region, local activists combat drought and pollution, asserting their guardianship over their waterways. In North America, the Innu community in Canada's northeast has recognized river rights in regional declarations, illustrating a radical shift in environmental law.  The Rebirth of River Rights What makes these stories compelling is the idea that rivers are more than just resourceful water courses—they are living entities deserving legal protection. MacFarlane's journey shows that citizen guardianship can lead to tangible change, like the Ecuadorian court ruling that protected Los Cedros' forest and river ecosystem, forcing mining companies to leave within ten days. These acts of guardianship, rooted in love and respect, demonstrate how reimagining rivers as rights-bearing beings can foster ecological healing. Stories from the Water: Encounters with Place One of MacFarlane's gifts is his ability to connect readers with the people he meets on his journeys. From the mushroom girl Juliana, who hears fungi as a language, to the indigenous communities whose rivers are sacred, these stories highlight the importance of listening, naming, and understanding our environment. Recognizing the Sign Language of Nature MacFarlane discusses Juliana's remarkable ability to sense fungi before seeing them—an almost magical skill that speaks to a deeper, intuitive understanding of ecosystems. She perceives the fungi's "voices," not through scientific rigor alone but through felt intuition. It's a reminder that humans can develop a kind of water literacy, learning to listen to the signals of rivers and oceans. These encounters illustrate that a polyphonic world exists, filled with language and meaning beyond human speech, waiting for us to perceive if we only listen. The Gift of Naming and Connection Naming, MacFarlane suggests, is a powerful act. It's a way of establishing relationship and recognition with the environment. Ann Marie talks about her experience of discovering tiny beach seedlings in Virginia, which led to a panoramic "cathedral" of beeches. Her experience exemplifies how awareness and naming deepen our connection to place. This act of naming transforms our perception, shifting us from mere observers to guardians who recognize their role in the web of life. Environmental Loss and Hope Throughout his travels, MacFarlane reflects on the disappearance of many natural places and the cultural erosion accompanying environmental decline. Yet, he emphasizes hope rooted in grassroots guardianship and legal advances. Movements in Wales, for example, have led to formal protections for rivers like the Wye, demonstrating that small steps can have ripple effects across landscapes and communities. How You Can Be a River Guardian Inspired by these stories? MacFarlane offers practical ways to foster a guardianship mindset, emphasizing collective action, local involvement, and legal advocacy. Get Involved Locally Join your community's river guardianship group or conservation organization. Guardianship isn't just about big legal battles—it starts with everyday actions like cleaning up trash, reporting pollution, or advocating for river-friendly policies. Support local initiatives such as American Rivers or Riverkeeper groups that work to protect and restore waterways. Participate in or organize community clean-up events—these tactile acts foster a sense of ownership and responsibility. Advocate for Legal Rights MacFarlane highlights Ecuador's pioneering legal framework recognizing the rights of nature which is an inspiring model worldwide. Encourage your local or national governments to adopt similar laws that extend personhood and legal protections to rivers and ecosystems. Final Thoughts: Rivers as Life's Arteries and Guardians In Is a River Alive?, MacFarlane reminds us that rivers are more than water—they are vital to life, culture, and the planet's health. Reimagining rivers as beings with rights, listening to their signals, and taking guardianship seriously offers a path to ecological renewal and cultural resilience. As citizens, learners, and guardians, we each have a role in supporting these life-giving arteries. https://www.americanrivers.org/ https://www.rightsofrivers.org/ https://www.penguinrandomhouse.com/authors/35084/robert-macfarlane/

Tune in to learn more, or see Chip's list of resources/helpful documents below. Chip's Guardianship Resources: https://www.nycourts.gov/CourtHelp/Guardianship/17A.shtml - this is a not-bad guide to how the process works and what you need to get together. Includes instructions on the forms and links to downloadable PDFs. Todd Fischlin is great and was my attorney. https://fishlinlaw.com/attorney-profile/ The New York Bar Association Referral Service will give you up to 3 referrals, based on what area of the law you need help with. You can consult with each of them for free for up to 15 minutes to figure out who's the right one for you. There's a suggested donation (the referral service is a nonprofit) but it's low. https://nysba.org/new-york-state-bar-association-lawyer-referral-service/ FORMS: * 17A Guardianship petition - this is the form where you ask to petition to be guardian (or move from standby to main guardian), including the contact info for you, your loved one, and the contact info for anyone who *could* have a competing claim * Combined Oath/Designation - this is a one page form where you swear you'll be a responsible guardian, and also which county surrogates court can accept processes if you're not around * Affidavit of Proposed Guardian - this is where you provide information about yourself - your address, education (where you went to school and what years), why you would be a good guardian Standby Guardianship Forms: The standby guardian will also have to submit these forms: * Combined Oath/Designation * Affidavit of Proposed Guardian  * Affidavit of Examining Psychiatrist or Physician - this is what the doctor will have to fill out with the appropriate code for the disability * Waiver of Process Consent - anyone who *could* also become a guardian should fill this out, basically saying "I'm not going to pursue this claim".  Ideally, you'd get the person to fill this out ahead of time. In my case, my ex-wife was originally the standby guardian, but we'd divorced and I'd remarried by the time my mother had married. I asked my ex if she would fill out this waiver ahead of time, and she agreed and filled it out, had it notarized, and got it back to me. * Notice of Petition - a one-or-two page form informing the court that you're making this petition for guardianship, and listing the standby guardian(s) (you can have several), and who else should get a notice of petition (if someone could contest your claim) * Affidavit of Mailing of Petition - this basically states that you in fact mailed all the people who should get a notice (like someone who has a potentially competing guardianship claim) - I didn't have to fill this out. * Form 3909 - this is where you have to list all the addresses that you and the standby guardians have lived at for the last 28 years, as well as any aliases you've used, like your maiden name. In my case, I changed my last name to my stepfather's. * To be on the safe side, I included my change of name documentation (I think nowadays they just issue a new birth certificate) * If you're moving from standby to main guardian, you will want to include:     -- A copy of the original "Notice of Guardianship" that the state sent the guardian     -- the death certificate of the guardian.      -- Just as an aside, when someone dies, whoever is stuck with the arrangements should request at least 10 death certificates. The funeral home will give you a certain amount as part of their costs, but will charge you above that. It's not expensive and every bank, insurance company, and other institution will want an original FILING OUT THE FORMS: The good news is that these forms are now available as PDFS that can be filled out on your computer, and some counties have electronic filing. NOTE that these forms change sometimes and so does the number of forms required, so please hit up the website above for the latest info. I would recommend filling out the forms yourself and then letting the lawyer look at them before filing. Filling them out yourself will save you legal fees but getting them to check your work will ensure you're not missing anything.

Financial Coaches Network - The Podcast: Build your Financial Coaching Business

Joshua and Amelie break down what an estate really is, why everyone already has an estate plan (even if they never created one), and why the Last Will and Testament is often the least powerful document in the entire process. The conversation explores essential documents like advance medical directives and powers of attorney, clears up common misconceptions, and highlights the one crucial role a will play for parents of minor children. Top takeaways: An “estate” includes far more than real estate — it's everything you own, owe, or control before and after death, including digital assets. If you don't create an estate plan, your state already has one for you — and it may not reflect your wishes. The most essential documents for nearly everyone are: an advance medical directive (living will), durable powers of attorney (health + finances), and, for parents of minors, a will. Guardianship designations for minor children only live in a will, making it critical for parents. Titling and beneficiary designations (in that order) override your will, meaning most financial assets never pass through it. Trusts also override the will. Wills are often less powerful than people assume; they mainly serve as a safety net for anything not handled elsewhere. Trusts can provide control, clarity, and protection — but they require thoughtful planning and aren't one‑size‑fits‑all. Estate plans should be reviewed after major life events — both in your family and in the lives of your chosen guardians or decision‑makers. Executors often have less responsibility than people expect when the rest of the estate plan is structured well. Estate Planning Podcast Series What Is an Estate Plan? جمهوری اسلامی ایران، آسیب شناسی یک انقلابThe 1979 Iranian Revolution and the emergenceof the Islamic Republic are best understood not as a simple regime change, but as the outcome of a deep “civilisational identity crisis” and a widening gap between state and society in twentieth‑century Iran. Rapid, top‑downmodernisation under the Pahlavi monarchy – funded by oil, driven by urbanisation and higher education, and enforced by an expanding security apparatus – created new social groups and expectations without opening up meaningful channels of political participation. The 1953 coup and the Shah's security dependence on the United States structurally damaged the monarchy's legitimacy and inscribed a sense of foreign interference and humiliation into Iran's political memory. Against this background, intellectual currents such as Jalal Al‑e Ahmad's “Westoxification” and Ali Shariati's revolutionary Islam fused religious identity, social anger and anti‑imperialist sentiment into a shared language of protest. Dense clerical and mosque networks, amplified by Khomeini's taped sermons and media exposure from exile, provided the organisational infrastructure that allowed Islamists to dominate and then appropriate the revolution. The new constitution institutionalised a dual system, combining republican institutions with the doctrine of velayat‑e faqih (Guardianship of the Jurist). This produced a hybrid order in which elected bodies operate under the shadow of powerful unelected institutions, enabling a “parallel state”, blurred accountability, and a built‑in tendency to deflect blame. Pathologically, the Islamic Republic behaves less like a normal consolidated state and more like a permanent revolutionary project that needs ongoing crisis and external enemies to sustain its identity. Meanwhile, Iranian society has become more urban, educated and culturally secular, making the structural conflict between a revolutionary theocratic state and a modern, plural society the central tension shaping Iran's politicalfuture.

Grief has a way of sharpening the soul. We begin with a hard headline and turn to Psalm 31, letting the words “you care about the anguish of my soul” frame a conversation about trust, purpose, and the kind of courage that holds when the world feels unsteady. From that posture, we ask what obedience looks like at home, at work, and in the public square—where our choices echo far beyond our own lives. We sit with Ephesians 5 to recover the shape of covenant love. Husbands are called to a self-giving pattern that mirrors Christ's sacrifice; wives are called to a respect that nurtures unity. The image of a rowboat makes it practical: when both row in rhythm, families move forward; when we pull against each other, exhaustion sets in. Then Matthew 25 pulls us further. The bridesmaids teach readiness you cannot borrow, and the talents demand stewardship of the gifts you actually have. Readiness looks like prayer and repentance; stewardship looks like faithful risk and daily work for the good.Wisdom literature steadies the compass. Psalm 31 gives language for fear and hope. Proverbs 8 reminds us that wisdom calls in plain words at the crossroads. We honor George Breeman's quiet heroism aboard the USS Kearsarge and then turn to President James Garfield's warning that Congress reflects the people. If we tolerate corruption, we get corruption; if we demand integrity, we get courage. Culture follows what we celebrate, fund, and excuse. That puts responsibility back where it belongs—on our choices, our time, our votes, and our daily habits. If this resonates, share it with a friend, leave a review, and consider supporting the show so we can keep building a space for Scripture-shaped courage. In the midst of collapse, as we watch our governments lay waste to our social agreements, it can be hard to imagine extending the franchise of legal rights to Nature and the More than Human world.  And yet, if we're to transcend this moment, it must be because we have become something other than we are now - and to do this, we need the roadmaps that show us how to move through, and beyond, the collapse of the old into something new. We spoke to Ally Pimor about this a couple of weeks ago and when I first met her, I also met this week's guest and they had so much to say that I wanted to talk to each of them.  So with this in mind, this week's guest is Brontie Ansell, the founder and co-director of Lawyers for Nature. Brontie founded Lawyers for Nature in 2019 with the (fairly infamous) barrister Paul Powlesland, they are a collective of lawyers who act to represent Nature. They reimagine the law for Nature and advocate for Nature to be given legal rights through education, Nature centric governance, consultancy, research and advocacy. Last year Lawyers for Nature were behind the We Are Nature campaign that sought to change the dictionary definition of Nature at the Oxford English Dictionary to include humans as part of Nature. Brontie was one of the key legal architects behind the Nature on the Board project at Faith in Nature and she was the first human to act as the Nature Guardian speaking on behalf of Nature at the company Faith in Nature, giving Nature a voice and a vote on a corporate board for the first time in history. She then went on to design the legal apparatus to appoint Nature and the voice of future generations to the board of House of Hackney, a company that credits Nature as their most important muse. Most recently she was advising the Comisiwn Seilwaith Cenedlaethol Cymru/National Infrastructure Commission for Wales on their Nature Representation pilot. She features heavily in both Simeon Rose's new book Nature's Boardroom and Frieda Gormley's book In the Company of Nature. She has been a lecturer in law for 15 years, most recently at the University of Essex where she was an associate professor at Essex Law School. Brontie has taught courses on Rights of Nature, climate justice, employment law and land law. Her work is informed by the global rights of nature movement and she is grateful to all who came before her to create the bedrock for work she does. Brontie talks to me about what a society could look like if we really reformed the meaning of ‘justice for all', and started to understand Nature and aspects of Nature as a subject of law.Because of the times we're in, I felt I could not ignore the shocking events that occurred in America this past week week and so we started with a quote from Elliott Morris and Strength in Numbers, which I was confusing with another organisation - Strength in Numbers is, in fact, a Substack blog -  well worth reading. I've put a link in the show notes, along with a few others that I think are worth adding to your must-read list every morning.  Last week - with his permission - I read a bit from one of these, by Oliver Kornetzke as part of the intro (hi Ollie if you're still listening!). I'm not going to make a habit of this every week, but I want to read something from Jackie Summers blog, Field Notes for Cracking An Empire, where she says, “If you've been reading my work for the last few years, none of this should be surprising. The old narratives are gone. This is what fascism looks like in real time. First, ICE agents killed Renee Nicole Good, a white woman. Now they've murdered Alex Jeffrey Pretti, a 37-year-old US citizen. A nurse with no criminal record. White women's bodies were supposed to be sacrosanct. Respectable professionals were supposed to be “off-limits.” That's no longer the case. For Black people, this country has always been fascist. What's new is who else is inside the blast radius. The Venn diagram of “safe” and “endangered” is now a circle. If you're shaken, it's not just grief. It's narrative whiplash. The distance between “this can't happen” and “it just did, on camera” no longer exists. You have choices. You can either cling to the lie and let someone else keep paying. Or pay the cost of updating the story about this country. About who is “safe,” about what you're willing to do now that protections are gone. I've said it before, the empire can handle outrage. It has no defense against empathy at scale. Outrage spikes, trends, and fades. Empathy—“it can be me; it already is them”—changes what people are willing to risk and protect. This is recruitment by atrocity. Your blood spilled red in the streets, just like ours. It shouldn't take this. It always has."There follows one of the most cogent, clear, useful, grounded lists of how we can all join what has been called well-organised Anarchists. And if that's what we are, I'm not sure that's bad.  At the end, Jackie writes - If you're going out, your first job is coming home. If you're staying home, your first job is staying human.  I'm writing this from the privilege and safety of a rural home in the UK.  Wherever you are in the world, please look after each other. And for ideas on how we can transcend this moment, to start reimagining a world which sees us as humans who reconnect with each other and with Nature, and give Nature the rights it deserves to thrive, please listen on to Brontie Ansell and her beautiful models of Quiet Romance, Care, Guardianship and justice for all life. Linkshttps://www.lawyersfornature.com/https://immersives.pioneerspost.com/lawyers-leading-nature/index.htmlhttps://greenallianceblog.org.uk/2022/09/22/giving-nature-a-seat-on-the-board-is-a-powerful-way-to-make-sure-businesses-protect-our-environment/https://nationalinfrastructurecommission.wales/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/NICW_NOTB_LFN-Final-Report.pdfhttps://www.houseofhackney.com/pages/nature-our-directorhttps://www.natureontheboard.com/https://bristoluniversitypress.co.uk/professional-business/natures-boardroomhttps://www.waterstones.com/book/in-the-company-of-nature/frieda-gormley/9781645023500https://www.ukrightsofnature.org/https://wearenature.org/

In this episode, Kala and I get real about one of the most talked-about, and honestly, most misunderstood topics in witchcraft: gatekeeping. We swap stories and share the kind of lessons that only come from living it, not just reading about it. This isn't about drawing lines in the sand to keep people out; it's about knowing where healthy boundaries help a community thrive and where those boundaries need a little extra love (or a good, hard look). We discuss the difference between protecting what's sacred and shutting people out.Whether you're just finding your witchy feet or you're the one holding the lantern for others, this conversation is about the realness of the practice. So grab your favorite mug, wrap up in something cozy, and settle in.✨ Next week, we'll be kicking off Lesson 2 of the Tempering Path with Protect Your Magic: Five Essential Steps for Energetic Hygiene. Your primer on grounding, cleansing, shielding, clearing your space, and replenishing your energy.✨ After that, join us for Energy Care Unfiltered: Priestess Q&A and Honest Reflections as we get real about what these practices look like in everyday witchcraft, answering your questions and sharing our own lived experiences. This path isn't about perfection; it's about presence. Let's begin.A NOTE ON ADVERTISEMENTS: While I can add ads for revenue, I have no control over the ads that are being run. I'm just a plain-Jane kind of girl from the Southern US, raised on cornbread, front porch stories, and in the rhythm of Southern Baptist Sundays. My path to Paganism has been long, winding, often surprising, and full of unexpected turns. I didn't find it all at once. The more I leaned into my dreams, my intuition, and my experiences with spirit, the more the world began to shimmer with meaning. The gods, the dead, the land – all of it was speaking. These days, I'm a priestess of death and rebirth, of sovereignty and sacred mischief. I walk with spirits. I work with Gods who burn away illusions and shine light into shadow. My magic is devotional and practical, grounded and ecstatic. I believe in sacred rest, in the wisdom of the body, and in building spiritual homes for people like us, the seekers, the weirdos, the ones who never stopped asking questions. Now, I walk a path of devotion, sovereignty, and mystery with The Unseen Flame. If you'd like to know more about me or my journey, please don't hesitate to ask. This week, we are inviting you into a moment; a moment in time where Jesus steps into the upper room, of John 13-16, with his disciples. Can you picture it? He sits down at the table across from them, almost as if it's a modern day 'table talk,' bringing comfort in their anxiety and fear, and preparing them for his departure. After offering a series of pledges and promises, his words culminate in a statement of triumph.  Pastor Michael ended with those words of triumph in his sermon last Sunday: "These things I have spoken to you, that in Me, you may have peace. In the world you have tribulation, but take courage; I have overcome the world” (16:33). With that climactic promise of ultimate victory, Jesus ends his talking to the disciples, and now, He talks to His Father. Jesus pours out his heart in prayer. Philipp Melanchthon once said, “there is no voice which has ever been heard, neither in heaven nor in earth, more exalted, more holy, more fruitful, more sublime than the prayer offered up by the Son of God to His Father…”  So, what did Jesus pray to the Father about? We'll explore this prayer together, this Sunday, at CBC.Jesus' prayer to His Father:- Reveals the Goal of Jesus' Love (1-5), “…Glorify your Son, so that the Son may glorify you…” (1)- Rejoices In the Grace of Jesus' Love (6–10), “…they were yours…you gave them to me…” (6)- Reassures Us of the Guardianship of Jesus' Love (v.11–12), “I guarded them and not one of them is lost…” (12)

Nick Hauselman is flying solo while Jared Yates Sexton is out, so he grabs his buddy Brian Kaplan for a relaxed Weekender that starts as a casual lunch in LA and somehow turns into a full-blown political autopsy. Between salad-fork confessions and talk of suspicious bruises, they dig into: whether Trump needs full time care, why congressional hearings are basically soundbite factories, and how “we all saw it happen” doesn't matter when a party's committed to an alternate reality. From Matt Gaetz and the ethics report mess to the Supreme Court's consequence-free zone, the conversation keeps circling the same ugly theme: power, money, and the cruelty-as-strength brand that keeps getting rewarded. They also kick around the idea that America isn't “going back” to anything, it's stumbling into a new Gilded Age, and the only real rebuild might come from a generation that's sick of watching the same fossilized leadership cling to the wheel. And because it's the Weekender, they close it out with something actually pleasant: what they're watching when the news gets too dark. Conservatorship & Guardianship: The Living Probate Nobody Plans For In this Senior Matters episode, hosts Mark Wight and Carly Ward discuss the urgent need for proactive estate planning to avoid court-imposed conservatorship and guardianship. Known as "living probate" in Idaho, these processes strip individuals of financial and personal decision-making authority when prior planning hasn't been done. This could mean a court appointed individual becomes in charge of your finances and your decisions. Mark and Carly explain the differences between conservatorship (managing the money) and guardianship (managing the person), share the emotional and financial toll of court proceedings, and highlight how powers of attorney and trusts can preserve autonomy. With fewer than 30% of people passing away with intact faculties, incapacity planning is critical to keeping families not courts, in control of life's most important decisions.

A Halloween greeting sets the stage for a conversation about the real scares families face: probate, guardianship, and the high cost of long-term care. We unpack how to turn those fears into treats by using practical tools that keep control in your hands, protect your home, and speed assets to loved ones without a courtroom drama. We start with the case for avoiding probate. A thoughtfully drafted revocable trust preserves privacy, directs distributions on your terms, and helps sidestep creditor and benefit recovery claims. For the family home, we explain how a Lady Bird deed (enhanced life estate deed) lets you keep full control during life while ensuring the property vests immediately in your beneficiaries at death. Add payable-on-death designations to bank, IRA, and life insurance accounts to keep funds outside the probate estate and in the hands of the people who need them most.Next, we draw a clear line between comprehensive powers of attorney and the turmoil of guardianship. Guardianship fights can turn personal and public, pitting relatives against each other in court over capacity and control. Strong general durable and health care powers of attorney, supported by a living will, prevent that spiral by naming who acts for you the moment capacity slips. The result is faster decisions, private management of finances and care, and a huge reduction in costs and conflict. We close with the underrated reward of planning: peace of mind. By structuring ownership and beneficiary designations wisely, you can qualify for long-term care benefits without sacrificing your home or retirement. You avoid the most common traps—public probate, contested guardianships, and rushed, do-it-yourself fixes—while giving your family clarity and calm when it matters. Jesse goes solo for a deep dive into the vital yet often overlooked world of special needs financial planning. He opens with a personal story about his daughter's illness—an experience that deepened his empathy for parents whose caregiving journeys never pause—and uses it to frame the emotional and financial realities families face when raising a child with disabilities. From there, he explores how special needs planning extends beyond traditional wealth management, requiring families to think in decades, not years, while balancing their own retirement goals with lifelong care needs. Jesse breaks down key tools such as special needs trusts, ABLE accounts, and government programs like SSI and Medicaid, explaining how they work together to preserve benefits and provide sustainable support. He also examines the potential role of permanent life insurance as a funding mechanism for long-term care, the legal importance of guardianship and trusteeship, and the wisdom of separating caregiving and financial responsibilities to prevent burnout. Throughout, Jesse underscores the need for community resources, professional guidance, and self-care—reminding listeners that special needs planning isn't just about money, but about love, security, and building a future where every member of the family can thrive. Key Takeaways:• Raising a child with special needs requires planning for both the parents' and the child's lifetimes—often extending decades beyond traditional financial horizons. • Special needs families face higher ongoing costs, from medical treatments and therapies to adaptive equipment and in-home care. • Core financial fundamentals—emergency savings, retirement planning, tax strategy, and estate planning—remain essential but must be adapted for special needs circumstances. • Nonprofits, community organizations, and local programs can offer both financial aid and emotional support for families. • Professional guidance from fiduciary planners and special needs attorneys can help families integrate benefits, trusts, and insurance effectively. • Above all, special needs planning is about more than money—it's about love, security, and ensuring a dignified, supported life for every family member. What started as a couple month journey has now reached multiple years of sobriety, a new life and family and the opening of a law office.Craig opened up about his past and what led him down a dark path of abusing alcohol and drugs while trying to maintain his legal profession. Ultimately he hit rock bottom and ended up down in treatment in 2018. Upon completion of treatment, he was encourage to stay down here and start over with a humbling job and to focus on himself and his early recovery. He got his first job clerking for a law office and during the interview was completely honest about this situation which landed him the job. His boss at the time understood Craig was working but sobriety and recovery came first.During the early years, Craig spent his life giving back, working with others and following the suggestions of those who came before him. He met his wife and got marriesd, had a child and opened his own law practice with another local lawyer and recovery advocate. To quote their website at www.robinsoncasey.com, "At Robinson and Casey, If you're here, chances are you've tried everything—conversations, ultimatums, boundaries, second chances—and you're running out of hope. We know that feeling. The sleepless nights. The constant phone calls. The fear that today could be the day things spiral too far. Families carry that weight until it feels unbearable. We guide you through the entire legal process—whether through the Marchman Act or Guardianship. Yes, we handle the legal filings, but that's just the beginning. We stand beside you in court, communicate with treatment providers, and make sure your family has the support and clarity you need every step of the way."We hope you enjoy the show and if you or a loved one needs help do not hesitat3e to reach out to Craig with any questions. What if the real work of leadership wasn't about climbing higher, but going deeper into the soul, the body, and the sacred responsibility of showing up fully alive? In this soul-stirring conversation on The Greatness Machine, Darius sits down with Nathanael Chawkin for a deep dive into the sacred masculine, conscious leadership, and the power of integration. From personal initiations through plant medicine to the spiritual responsibility of leading in the modern world, this episode explores what it means to live a wholehearted, embodied life. Nathanael shares insights from his work guiding men through transformational rites of passage, and challenges the performative narratives of power and success. They also reflect on the rise of conscious capitalism, the illusion of enlightenment, and the true crucibles of growth—like marriage, fatherhood, and leadership itself.  In this episode, Darius and Nathanael will discuss: (00:00) Introduction and Background (02:57) The Journey of Fatherhood (05:30) Exploring Masculinity and Leadership (08:34) The Role of Plant Medicine in Personal Growth (11:29) Integration and Spiritual Development (14:11) Personal Experiences with Plant Medicine (24:57) Exploring Plant Medicines and Spiritual Experiences (30:13) The Shift from Materialism to Conscious Leadership (36:56) Conscious Capitalism and the Role of Guardianship (42:46) Integrating Spirituality and Material Life (50:23) The Pathways of Development in Leadership Nathanael Chawkin is a modern mystic, master coach, and martial arts instructor with over 15 years of experience guiding executives and leaders through transformational growth. He is the founder of Guardian Training, a men's work methodology that blends MMA, conflict resolution, and depth psychology to awaken the sacred masculine. In 2021, he launched Awakening Leadership, a plant medicine journey for conscious leaders, and in 2025, co-founded Temple of The Living Truth with his life partner Elizabeth—a priestess of the sacred feminine. Together, they are building a decentralized spiritual community rooted in direct mystical experience. Featured in Entrepreneur and The Financial Times, Nathanael brings a uniquely embodied and integrative lens to leadership, spirituality, and human potential. Philippians 4:1-7 – Anchored in Peace

The sermon explores how to find internal stability and peace in the midst of life's turbulence, using the Apostle Paul as an example. Despite facing immense hardship, Paul writes to the Philippians about a peace that “surpasses all understanding.” The message centers on three practices Paul outlines in Philippians 4:1-7: rejoicing in the Lord, letting your reasonableness be known, and bringing everything to God in prayer with thanksgiving. Each practice is unpacked, showing how they anchor us in our identity as chosen and loved by God, keep our perspective rooted in our eternal inheritance, and invite us to trust God with even our deepest anxieties. The sermon challenges us to bring the reality of the cross into every situation, trusting that God can work good even from our worst days, and to live as a community marked by this peace.
