You’re working hard and qualified for what you do but you aren’t getting what you want. You have plans on getting to the C-suite or launching a business but ultimate success seems as far away today as ever. You’re at the right place because you can get there from here. And I can help. Who I Am I’m a speaker, coach, and former Division I All-American wrestler that helps motivated former athletes reach their full potential by getting clarity on what they really want and taking aggressive action to lead their ideal life not just despite their prior failures but because of them. I’m a husband and father of four. And I’m a serial entrepreneur. I’ve launched multiple successful businesses as well as the obligatory failed one. I’ve been the executive director of a non-profit and have raised millions of dollars. I’ve worked in sales. I’ve even been a Division I head coach. While I was born in a blue-collar home I have spent my life surrounded by Olympians, CEO’s and millionaires. Jim Rohn said, “You are the average of the five people you spend the most time with.” I’ve been lucky. I’ve learned the habits of successful people and guess what. You’re just like them. I know because I know your type. You’re programmed for hard work, which is a prerequisite for success, but you’ve never been shown how to use what you know to create the life you want with the tools you have. I will show you how. Why You are Here You've worked hard to achieve greatness. You’ve set goals and maybe even set records. You’ve definitely failed and you’ve at some point found yourself questioning if you were on the right track. You need to understand this: You are far more prepared to succeed than those who’ve not tried, competed, struggled and overcome like you have. That’s the value of your education as someone who aims high. You are prepared to be as successful as your wildest dreams will allow. It happens all the time. You know how to do something. You might have done it a ton of times before. But the moment you step in front of someone else and have to do it you freeze. You might be before a whole group of people, like giving a presentation, or just in front of one person, like in a job interview. You get tense. And sweaty. You can't remember what to say or do. You might even shake. Things that usually come easily to us are suddenly really difficult when others are watching us. In this interview with Gina Parris we talk about performance anxiety and how you can use what Gina calls "3 R" to move past it.

Despite finding herself divorced and raising a special needs child on her own, dealing with the death of two brothers due to drugs, this Diva has pulled herself out of a traumatic situation and found victory. When everything looked bleak, she found blessings. In her new book, Black Child to Black Woman (a ‘live diary’), Cheryl (McNeil) Bannerman discusses an experience that will grab your attention right from the start. The character, Tara Walker, speaks directly to the reader as she adds entry after entry into her Journal. She documents her experiences, her family life, her triumphs, as well as her interpretation of life and the world as she saw it. As she grows, so does the language and tone of the diary, which matches her maturity and speech patterns as the time passes. Experiences are mere images engraved in our minds that we recall when future events occur such as a tragedy or even when a song is playing on the radio. Tara has captured those moments in time in her diary, even the painful ones. Although she came from a loving home with both parents, she struggled to come to grips with siblings addicted to drugs, molestation, attempted rape, broken hearts, and so much more. Her diary experiences will make you laugh, cry, scream, sigh, and gasp aloud. As Tara struggles to keep her head above water and fight through the tribulations of her life, she continues to smile, continues to grow as a person, continues to be successful in her career, and continues to survive. About Our Guest: Cheryl McNeil (pen name, Cheryl D. Bannerman, her birth name) is CEO of a small virtual training company based out of Central New Jersey. She holds a Bachelors in Business Management and a Masters in Project Management. She is also the (divorced) single mother of a beautiful twelve year old girl. Be sure to invite your friends and family! We’ll see YOU at the show!!

Women have the incredible ability to take difficult situations and turn them into personal triumphs regardless of their circumstances. In her book, Common Threads - How Women Weave Tribulation into Triumph, Michelle Candland hopes that the stories she shares brings something positive, something empowering, and something inspiring that will help spark a passion to find their place in the world and make a difference no matter what the past has held. Common Threads is filled with real life experiences, uplifting quotes, helpful tools for self improvement and numerous resources for personal growth. What you do with what you’ve learned has no limits—know that you are not alone, you are surrounded by people who truly want you to succeed and you are worth it! Common Threads is a compilation of almost 60 years of Michelle’s personal experiences, ranging from early childhood memories, to adult “ah ha!” moments. It is a collection of little somethings that would later prove to be the cause of big somethings, joyful muses, sad observations, sources of pride, causes of embarrassment, and even periods of disgrace. All are threads of experience that are woven together to make up her life tapestry. There were times when she thought she had more unraveling than weaving going on; times when the texture was loose, the colors were dark, and the pattern was ill conceived. Other times, the edges of the images were precise, the colors were rich, and the big picture was filled with both accomplishment and hope for a brighter tomorrow. Patricia Harman has spent over thirty years caring for women as a midwife, first as a lay-midwife, delivering babies in cabins and on communal farms in West Virginia, and later as a nurse-midwife in teaching hospitals and in a community hospital birthing center. She spent over a decade in the sixties and seventies in her wild youth living in rural communes in Washington, Connecticut and Minnesota. During the Vietnam years, she and her husband, Tom Harman, traveled the country, often hitch-hiking, as they looked for a place to settle. In 1974 they purchased a farm with a group of like-minded friends on top of a ridge in Roane County, West Virginia. Here on the commune, they built log houses, dug a pond, grew and preserved their own food and started the Growing Tree Natural Foods Cooperative. It was during this time that Patsy attended her first home birth, more or less by accident. “Some people are destined,” she has written. “I was staying at a woman friend’s commune when she went into labor and I ended up delivering my first baby.” Soon after, Harman traveled to Austin, Texas to train with a collective of home-birth midwives. When she returned, she became one of the founding members of The West Virginia Cooperative of Midwives. Her passion for caring for women and babies led her to become an RN as the first step in getting licensed as certified nurse midwife. In 1985, with her children, a yowling cat and her husband she traveled north, pulling a broken down trailer to begin her training at the University of Minnesota where she received her MSN in Nurse-Midwifery. Find out the rest of Patsy's story on the next DivaTalkRadio with Kelli Claypool and Gina Parris.

With Unemployment Rates Falling, People are Still Afraid to Leave their Jobs According to a new survey, only 47% of Americans are completely satisfied with their current careers. During these economically tough times, many people who are unhappy with their jobs are choosing to remain due to uncertainty in the market place. Even with unemployment rates falling, many are still afraid to lose their security and don’t want to take the risk of venturing out into the job marketplace in search of a new career. Unfortunately, even those people who will switch careers in 2011 will find that they are still unhappy in the new role. Most people who change jobs end up with a job description that is similar to what they previously held. This type of change only works if the problem is extrinsic – a bad boss or long commute. However, for many people the problem is that they are simply in the wrong job for themselves. No matter how great the company is or how bad the job market is, if someone is in the wrong line of work, they will become increasingly dissatisfied and that dissatisfaction will spill over into other aspects of their lives. The problem is that many people have either fallen in their current careers or made a choice based on incomplete information. “Too many people spend more time choosing their wardrobe than choosing their career,” according to Sierra Modro, author of The Right Ladder. “We need to take the time to understand our passions and interests to be able to choose the perfect career.” Using Modro’s proven L.E.A.P. system, people can Learn, Envision, Act, and Possess the perfect career. By taking the time to determine the best path, career-switchers will be able to permanently improve their work life.
Jim Higley was a typical middle-age dad whose world, overnight, went from the soccer field sidelines cheering on his children to the sidelines of life. At the age of forty-four, Jim became the fourth member of his immediate family to receive a diagnosis of cancer and suddenly found himself with an entire summer removed from all of life’s obligations as he allowed his body to heal after surgery. Thanks to a wise friend’s promise, however, that summer of physical healing transformed into the rediscovery of several forgotten life lessons-and one life-changing gift that had been quietly waiting for him for over thirty years. The single father of three is an insightful storyteller who writes about the experiences found in the nooks and crannies of everyday life from a dad’s perspective. Described as “Martha Stewart meets MacGyver,” after a 23-year career in corporate America Jim zipped up his briefcase and became a fulltime stay-at-home dad. Since then-in addition to writing-his world centers around carpools, bake sales, attempting to make school play costumes with a glue gun, and simply being home and available. 24/7. Jim is the inaugural World’s Greatest Dad for Man of the House magazine. His kids, however, are requesting a recount.

As a wife, and the mother of 3 young children, inspiration for her business is taken from daily life, and infused from her experiences living in Europe, Asia and Africa. Prior to starting Housewife Bliss in 2010, Coryanne Ettiene earned a Master of Philosophy from Kings College London and spent over 10 years working as a management consultant. When she left her job in management consulting to focus on motherhood, it took her time to embrace the value of her new role and find the right balance between the woman she was before and the woman she was becoming. During this transition, Coryanne devoured books on domestication, cooking and gardening, and soon discovered that her new place in society held an equally important role as her last. In 2010, this journey into domestication became the motivation behind Housewife Bliss, and today she promotes the message that the modern traditionalist housewife is a woman who manages her home with pride, has a passion for traditional domestic arts, and above all is not defined by her home, but rather defines her home. Coryanne is a contributor to the Daily Meal, Celebreations.com, and works with a number of TV stations sharing her household management tips, kitchen inspirations and entertaining ideas. To learn more about Coryanne and her passion for domesticity, visit www.housewifebliss.com, follow @housewifebliss on Twitter or Fan the Housewife Bliss page on Facebook. What is an entrepreneur? It is someone who goes beyond the traditional paradigm of employment into one that is much grander and more exciting. The entrepreneur is a person who takes risks and is involved directly with the art and process of creating, out of nothing, something valuable to someone else. The entrepreneur has become the “rainmaker” of corporate America and is transforming the economies of the world. The entrepreneur is powerful! Add a female entrepreneur to the mix and you get a womanpreneur! Someone who is even more powerful and more influential because she has a determined spirit that weaves our cultural fabric. A womanpreneur incorporates her business, her faith, and her family into every day. Dr. Carolyn Edwards (a/k/a Dr. E) was born and raised in Washington, DC and is a Howard University Alum. She holds a Masters and Doctorate degree in management. Dr. E’s “Life Journey”, “Dreams” and “Life Mosaic” Programs have been used around the country to help others achieve their dreams, develop character and live authentic lives. She is the author of two children’s books and three writing journals which have been used in non-profit, government, education, religious and personal programs to help empower others through writing to live purposeful lives. After ten years as a college professor, Dr. E realized that helping empower children can be the catalyst for more productive adult decisions. Therefore, her children’s books “I Can Be” and “Fun With Money” are a step to provide children with knowledge and tools early in their lives that can shape their minds for positive, peace filled, purposed and authentic lives.

Pegi Burdick, The Financial Whisperer™ helps women untangle their emotions from their money. The Financial Whisperer™ does not duplicate what Suze Orman does. She does not dispense financial advice, nor tell people how to get out of debt, nor give them financial tools. She is not a financial planner. What Pegi does is help women dig deep into the reasons why they have so much debt, feel shame about their finances, and why they cannot manage their money. Pegi is about healing the source of the pain in their lives. Only when you discover the true ‘why’ can you heal and start to have financial freedom. In a recent interview, Pegi shared “Some people at times in their lives feel as if they are living someone else’s life; what comes out of their mouth and their actions seem to be coming from a source not belonging to them. Often clients have lamented to me: “ I feel as if there is a dense fog surrounding me and I can’t see the road ahead, I can’t even see where I am standing.” Well, they are right; they are living someone else’s life and the reason the road ahead is not clear is because they are not fully present in this moment. What does Pegi mean by “not fully present in this moment”? And, what does THAT have to do with our finances? Be sure to be “present” on the next DivaTalkRadio where we ask Pegi all the hard questions. Our chat room will be open during the LIVE show, so come with your financial questions as we talk to The Financial Whisperer, Pegi Burdick. When: Wednesday, June 8, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. EST Where: http://DivaTalkRadio.com/live Let’s master our finances together! Oh, and tell all friends to join us too!

Based on Kelli's definition of a "diva," Susan Diamond certainly fits the bill. Having spent a large portion of her life dedicating her time and energy to work with non-profit, faith-based organizations, she had a revelation. It didn't matter what God women prayed to, they were all praying for the same things. They wanted health and security for their family. They wanted a sense of worth and purpose. They wanted relief from stress and to offer thanks for blessings. There was one problem: traditional prayer had very little to do with the modern woman. Traditional prayers of most faiths were written by men in robes who lived centuries ago and had no conceptualization of the challenges and joys women today would face. To bridge the gap between desire to pray and ability to do so, Susan launched Prayables.com, an interfaith prayer website just for women. There, real women write prayers for the modern woman in a relatable fashion, with topics ranging from orgasm to menopause, crazy bosses to aging, parenting to grandparenting. The result? A strong community of women thriving in a tolerant, faith based environment, and all because one woman had the guts to take a chance on a crazy sounding business model. Susan is a definite diva, embodying confidence, faith and female empowerment in one broad stroke. We are delighted to have Susan share her story with you! Plan to join us.

No one talks about the dark side of marriage. Take the death fantasy—the heart attack or the aneurysm many a husband or wife has wished on his or her spouse. Or, take the lack of sexual interest, the wives who dread their husband’s touch and who wish, hope and pray that, for the love of God, he won’t want to get busy tonight, tomorrow night, ...or ever. And then there’s the mental preoccupation with who will get what pieces of furniture if the marriage does not last. People just don’t talk about these things. Until now. In Project: Happily Ever After Alisa Bowman bravely tells the story of how she went from wishing her husband dead to renewing her wedding vows. Her four-month project was a last ditch effort to save a marriage that many—her friends, her colleagues and even her own mother—had written off as hopeless. It’s a fearlessly honest account of all of the topics that unhappily married people and the counselors who try to help them are too scared and guilt-ridden to discuss. From dry spells to bikini waxes, romance instruction manuals to second honeymoons, the silent treatment to power struggles, she goes where many marriage improvement experts have feared to tread. Equal parts funny, poignant, and helpful, the book offers other divorce daydreamers courage and hope—as well as a 10-step plan they can follow to start their own marriage projects at home. In the first marital improvement book written from the perspective of a recovering divorce daydreamer, it tells an inspiring story coupled with straightforward, prescriptive guidance. Readers will laugh, cry, and, for once, feel oh so normal. And then they will save their marriages, too. Alisa Bowman is the marriage expert for every woman. She writes the popular marriage blog ProjectHappilyEverAfter.com. And Divas, we get her to our very own on Wednesday, January 19th. Mark your calendars and plan to attend live. Alisa will be giving away a complimentary copy of her to one of our listeners.

Fed up with "drab" hospital gowns while undergoing treatment for breast cancer, Brenda Jones learned how to sew and created her own. Now, her "Hug Wraps" bring joy to patients all over the world. Brenda Jones felt as if her world had ended when she was diagnosed with breast cancer back in October 2008. Being forced to put on a drab, generic, embarrassing traditional hospital gown every time she went in for treatment only made the experience worse. So with a flash of inspiration — and a crash-course in sewing — she decided to do something about it. Much to her surprise, the kimono-style wrap she designed to give herself some dignity in the waiting room started garnering requests from other patients. Today? She's not only recovered, but she can hardly keep up with the demand for her homemade Hug Wraps from cancer patients all over the world. Since that day, Jones had made hundreds of wraps and has even sent them as far as Poland, England and Canada. Although she started making them for free, she admits her resources have become stretched and now she has to ask for a donation. "If people can't afford it, I try to send them one for free but I'm going broke," she says, adding: "I've made over 350 now and a lot of them I have given away for free." To solve the problem, she's in the process of setting up a nonprofit corporation so she can get sponsorship to continue making her much-needed gown-alternatives. "My ultimate goal is to get these to everyone for free -— there's nothing else I would like more." The amazing feedback she gets from her customers, who are either suffering from cancer or have a loved one who is, just inspires her to keep sewing. "Some people don't have the loving family I had when I was diagnosed," she explains. "I think for some people, the wrap is an extension of someone caring and so I put a personal note in with every parcel, saying 'every time you put on this hug wrap I am right there with you.'"

Brett Smuckler graduated from Rollins College. Inspired by her work as an Elementary Education major and by the story of her great-grandmother, she wrote her first novel, Under the Same Sky. In this novel, the young author shows maturity and intelligence beyond her age. The innocence of Olivia and Emmett's love is wonderfully juxtaposed against the harsh and complex world of politics and violence. Through her characters Ms. Smuckler captures the multidimensional nature of people and sends an important message that in life, things are rarely black and white. Currently, she resides in Tennessee with her two beloved dogs.

Steve is a successful entrepreneur, and author of Journey To You: A Step-by-Step Guide to Becoming Who You Were Born to Be and Founder of The Reinvention Workshop. A sought-after TV and radio guest, his unique slant on personal development is sometimes controversial, but always compelling and entertaining. More than ever, people are... transitioning from the mentality of "what can the world do for me?" to that of "what can I do for the world?" Today's economy only compounds this issue as lifelong employees become the victims of corporate downsizing and it's harder than ever to find work. Self-development expert Steve Olsher advises that the solution to these problems is found within. By tapping who you were born to be and heeding the pre-sent blueprint that already exists, a life of self-reliance, fulfillment and contentment awaits. He has worked as a radio and nightclub DJ (“Mr. Bold”); owned his own nightclub at the age of 20 (The Funky Pickle!); developed a wine and spirits catalog business (Liquor by Wire); launched one of the internet’s first fully-functional e-commerce websites in 1995 (LiquorByWire.com); is the chairman and co-founder of San Francisco-based Liquor.com; is the president and founder of Bold Development, one of Chicago’s largest boutique real estate development companies; and is the founder and facilitator of The Reinvention Workshop. Steve has earned the rank of purple belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, training under the late Carlson Gracie Sr. and now under Carlson Gracie Jr. All of his broad, real-world experiences have contributed to the ground-breaking, field-tested ideas found within Journey To You. Steve lives in Chicago with his wife, Lena, and their three sons, Bobby, Isaiah and Xavier—who remind him every day why his motto is “Let Love Rule.” I guarantee that this show will be enlightening, encouraging, and uplifting. Steve has a great outlook on life and believes in humor.
Danny Kofke is currently a special education teacher in Georgia. He is an elementary education major and taught kindergarten and first grade before moving into special education. He has done something to show others how they can do well despite earning a modest income by writing the book "How To Survive (and perhaps thrive) On A Teacher's Salary." Danny has been a teacher for ten years and is proud to say that passion for the craft keeps him in the classroom but smart savings and basic understanding of financial principles have kept his wife (willingly!) at home with their children. Many find it hard to believe that one teacher can support a family of four, but "How to Survive" explains the steps necessary for others to follow suit and save for life's journeys. In his book he shows others how to: Retire with a sizable nest egg; Teach in a foreign country; Own all of their possessions - including their cars and houses; Invest in Roth IRAs and 403bs; Establish a weekly budget; Live a financially secure life on a modest salary! Danny has been been featured in a number of publications including USA Weekend, Bankrate.com, PARADE, Instructor Magazine, CBS MoneyWatch.com, FoxBusiness.com, The Wall Street Journal, ABCNews.com, Yahoo Finance, Consumer's Digest, Bottom Line Personal, Your Family Today and The Huffington Post. Elena Patrice and her mother, Linda Saker, started Websites Give Back after they lost funding for their childrens book publishing and toy company. WebsitesGiveBack is a company with a wide range of experience. Don’t ever let anyone tell you dreams are meant for the young — if so, we’ve discovered the fountain of youth. As a 65-year-old divorced grandmother and a 40-something single mother of a young daughter, we have, collectively, been inventors, writers, illustrators, toy creators, publishers, and all around small business generalists. In many ways, WebsitesGiveBack is their personal economic recovery plan. They believe their company can assist small businesses — while sharing with charitable causes that are also impacted by the effects of substantially reduced donations. Knowing that situations and life change constantly, they consider a partnership with other small businesses as an awesome opportunity, in some significant way, to ignite the American dream once again. WebsitesGiveBack initiated a process, through an idea, to address the need for a solution to the challenges in both areas. The idea led to the development of strategies to combine good business and goodwill. As you can imagine, we are thrilled to have Elena on DivaTalkRadio. Her story will not only empower you, but will also encourage you to follow your dreams despite the obstacles that arise along the way. Be sure to join us on Wednesday, October 27th at 2:00 p.m. EST. Our interactive chat room and phone lines will be open during the LIVE show. www.DivaTalkRadio.com
