Over the past two years, HVC Cigars made a couple of significant moves toward vertical integration. In June 2021, the company announced it would be handling its own distribution which includes warehousing and order fulfillment. Almost a year later in June 2022, the company announced it was opening its own factory – Fabrica de Tabacos HVC S.A. It has continued expanding production out of the factory since then. Earlier this year, there was an expansion to the HVC Selección No. 1 HVC Selección No. 1 Natural. At this year's Premium Cigar Association (PCA) Trade Show, an expansion was done to the HVC Hot Cake line in the form of a Connecticut Shade cigar known as the HVC Hot Cake Golden Line. The HVC Hot Cake Golden Line would be the first Connecticut Shade cigar by HVC. Both of these cigars would come out of the HVC factory. Full PCA Report: https://wp.me/p6h1n1-qeX

It started as a normal episode - We invited Rod Hardman VA3ON and John Jacobs W7DBO (of the Field Radio Podcast) on to talk Holiday Shopping for Hams - one of our most favorite episodes to do each year. During this session, we showed no restraint whatsoever because we were at the 4 hour mark when we stopped recording! While we know you generally like long episodes, we thought we’d split this one into two parts. In part 2, we cover Ham Radio accessories and gifts for your Workbench. Dr. Ulrich Rohde, N1UL, is a pioneer in RF oscillator and receiver design. Over the last 40 years N1UL has authored over 60 articles for QST and QEX magazines, in addition to books, academic papers, and articles. Dr. Rohde has made significant scientific contributions to his family business, the Munich based Rohde and Schwarz test equipment company, and to amateur radio manufacturers including Icom. Ulrich, N1UL tells his ham radio story in this QSO Today.
One of the best kept secrets of amateur radio is the amazing QEX Magazine published by the ARRL and edited by my guest today, Kai Shiwiak, KE4PT. If you are a home brewer and want a more indepth amateur radio technology understanding, then QEX should be on your desk every month. Kai provides a fascinating look at home-brewing, the digital modes, and modest antennas for the antenna challenged ham in this episode of QSO Today.
My QSO Today is with John Stanley, K4ERO, a frequent contributor of articles about antenna design and performance to QST, QEX, the ARRL Antenna Book, and the ARRL Handbook. An MIT graduate, John and his wife Ruth, WB4LUA, spent many years abroad working as engineers for Christian Broadcast stations in India and South America. John shares his ham radio story and his antenna expertise in this QSO Today.
What is a DX contact on 10 Ghz? Paul Wade, W1GHZ, tells his ham radio story, about his ham radio operations in the amateur radio frequencies above 1 Ghz, and how these contacts are made. Paul is a regular contributor on amateur radio microwave subjects to both QST and QEX magazines. He joins Eric, 4Z1UG, in this week’s QSO Today.
Eric Nichols, KL7AJ, has Plasma dreams and chanrges up the ionosphere using high power transmitters based upon his years of experience in ham and broadcast radio. Starting in 1972, as a high school senior in Southern California, Eric first earned his Novice Class Amateur Radio license, WN6TEE. Upgrading to General Class, two years later, and adding a First Class Radio Telephone license, Eric made his way to North Pole, Alaska where he spent over 20 years as a broadcast engineer. He shares his ham radio journey through his contribution of over 150 published articles in QST, QEX, eHam and other publications, and even a ham radio novel, Plasma Dreams. Join Eric, 4Z1UG, in his QSO Today, with Eric Nichols, KL7AJ.
