Fonti:   ·      Wright, G. From the archives – episode 119 with Ken Webster: why we need to talk about the circular ECONOMY!

Circular Economy Podcast

To close out 2025, I'd like to revisit a critical aspect that's being ignored – the economy itself. Ken Webster is a leading thinker in the circular economy field, and one of his many roles is with Earth4All, where he has been exploring the benefits of a Universal Basic Dividend. Ken and Catherine discussed this, and more aspects of circularity at an economic level back in 2023, and it's highly relevant today, as the challenges we face loom larger. Catherine says: Ken Webster is one of my circular economy heroes, and is widely acknowledged as one of the foremost thinkers in the field. From 2010 – 2018, Ken was Head of Innovation for the Ellen MacArthur Foundation, shaping current concepts of a ‘circular economy'.. Ken also co-wrote the book that first opened my eyes to the circular economy back in 2011 – Sense and Sustainability, co-written with Craig Johnson. One of Ken's best-known books, The Circular Economy: A Wealth of Flows, relates the connections between systems thinking, economic and business opportunity and the transition to a circular economy. I'm very keen to read one of Ken's most recent books, co-written with Alex Duff. Ken and Alex use a storytelling approach based on the The Wonderful Wizard of Oz to offer a new and compelling narrative about the future direction of our economy, calling for macro-economic system redesign. It's called The Wonderful Circles of Oz: A Circular Economy Story – you'll find links in the shownotes. Ken's written several more thought-provoking works on the circular economy, including ABC+D: Creating a Regenerative Circular Economy for All – also co-written with Craig Johnson, and we mention some of these as we go along. This was a wide-ranging conversation about system-scale issues and concepts. I tried my best to keep up with Ken's thinking as we explored some of the big ideas he has been working on, including: A Universal Basic Dividend – not to be confused with UBI, or Universal Basic Income. We discuss why a Universal Basic Dividend would be a good thing, how it would be funded and where the money would flow to. We move onto The Commons – what that really means, and how it could be better accommodated in our modern economies, in a meaningful and sustainable way. Ken talks about the rentier economy, and rentiers. If you're not familiar with that term, it's someone who earns income from capital without working – for example by owning property or land that is rented out to tenants; by owning shares or bonds that pay dividends or interest, and so on. We discuss why the economy isn't working for the vast majority of people around the world, and what's getting in the way of an ‘economy for all'. We talk about some of the signals for change, with people are starting to see the potential of a future with community, connection and caring – caring for each other, and for our Mother Earth. The potential of a future that's not all about ‘Work, Buy, Consume, Die'. I've split our conversation into two parts – the 2nd part is available here: 119 Bonus Ken Webster: the circular ECONOMY! Part 2 International speaker, author and strategic advisor, Catherine Weetman helps people discover why circular, regenerative and fair solutions are better for people, planet – and prosperity. Welcome to Part 2 of my Top 100 Sci-Fi Reads of All Time (2025 Edition), where we move into ranks 80 through 61 — the section where the list starts to feel dangerous. This tier is packed with dystopias, survival stories, space opera, monsters, conspiracies, and big ideas colliding with bad human decisions. Many of these books ranked higher last year but were pushed down as my sci-fi reading expanded. Others are brand-new arrivals making strong first impressions. These may not be my absolute favorites — but they're all books I'm glad I read.If you enjoy sci-fi rankings, genre history, and honest takes from a lifelong speculative fiction reader, be sure to Like, Subscribe, and Ring the Bell so you're ready for what's next.

The workplace in 2025 feels like it's moving at double speed. Federal contractors saw affirmative action requirements disappear virtually overnight. DEI programs have gone from top priority to barely mentioned in less than a year. AI is racing ahead of regulation, and states like Massachusetts are charting their own course while the federal government pulls in the opposite direction.Pete Wright sits down with Tom Jones and Kyle Pardo to make sense of it all. They walk through what the rollback of Executive Order 11246 means for employers still figuring out what they're required to track, how DEI is quietly shifting toward broader inclusion efforts, and why Massachusetts employers need to watch for changes to state average weekly wage calculations. The conversation also touches on what AI regulation might look like when the technology is evolving faster than lawmakers can keep up, and why remote work mandates are hitting morale harder than many leaders expected. But the biggest revelation comes from AIM's latest HR practices survey: for the first time in years, employee engagement and morale have become the number one priority for employers heading into 2026, surpassing even compensation. It's a signal that something fundamental has shifted in how organizations are thinking about their people. We look at the 2025 paperback version of this book. See more about The Farming for Nature Handbook - A Practical Guide to Protecting and Restoring Nature on your Farm here. The Farming for Nature Handbook - Protecting and Restoring Nature on your Farm, reviewed A good up to date and practical guide for farmers and land owners to try and improve the amount of nature and biodiversity on your land. Korean Natural Farming was a new concept and one that we will now be researching. There have been some bad dead ends in the past, in terms of government led, heavy handed approaches to trying to support and help more positive nature focused initiatives, both at and Irish and EU level. This book seems more tuned to the specific needs of Irish farms, and is certainly a welcome addition to the debate and conversation about ecological best practices. It could certainly be a thought provoking stocking filler for the greener aspiring farmer in your life! More about the book here Farming for Nature, was set up in 2018, as a non-profit initiative whose mission is to support, encourage and inspire farmers who farm, or who wish to farm, in a way that will improve the natural health of our countryside. With over 76,000 words and stunning original illustrations, this handbook will guide and inspire you on your farming for nature journey, regardless of your farm size, enterprise type, or starting point. Over 50 contributors to this book demonstrate that it is possible to farm productively while safeguarding our natural environment, highlighting the positive role that farmers play in sustaining and enhancing our natural environment. Their stories show that, at a time when external forces, climate change, political unrest, and commodity prices, are unpredictable, farming for nature can restore a sense of control and hope for the future, as well as safeguarding the health and well-being of rural communities. The Authors Created by Farming For Nature this handbook contains contributions from nearly 50 farmers in our network, with over 500 scientific papers backing up their words. Dr Emma Hart, lead researcher, editor and author of the book, runs a nature reserve in Co. Cork and is a conversationist, a farmer and a contributor to a number of leading academic journals. Brigid Barry, co-founder of Farming For Nature, conceived of the idea for the book, developed the outline content, collated the farmers' stories, and managed the project. Dr Brendan Dunford is an eco-entrepreneur starting a number of successful conservation and farming projects including BurrenLife, Burrenbeo Trust, The Hare's Corner, Heritage Keepers and Farming For Nature. Brendan edited and shaped the content of the book at each draft. See more book reviews here.

Hello Interactors,Spain's high-speed trains feels like a totally different trajectory of modernity. America prides itself on being the tech innovator, but nowhere can we blast 180 MPH between city centers with seamless transfers to metros and buses…and no TSA drudgery. But look closer and the familiar comes into view — rising car ownership, rush-hour congestion (except in Valencia!), and growth patterns that echo America. I wanted to follow these parallel tracks back to the nineteenth-century U.S. rail boom and forward to Spain's high-spe ed era. Turns out it's not just about who gets faster rail or faster freeways, but what kind of growth they lock in once they arrive.TRAINS, CITIES, AND CONTRADICTIONSMy wife and I took high-speed rail (HSR) on our recent trip to Spain. My first thought was, “Why can't we have nice things?”They're everywhere.Madrid to Barcelona in two and a half hours. Barcelona to Valencia, Valencia back to Madrid. Later, Porto to Lisbon. Even Portugal is in on it. We glided out of city-center stations, slipped past housing blocks and industrial belts, then settled into the familiar grain of Mediterranean countryside at 300 kilometers an hour. The Wi-Fi (mostly) worked. The seats were comfortable. No annoying TSA.Where HSR did not exist or didn't quite fit our schedule, we filled gaps with EasyJet flights. We did rent a car to seek the 100-foot waves at Nazaré, Portugal, only to be punished by the crawl of Porto's rush-hour traffic in a downpour. Within cities, we took metros, commuter trains, trams, buses, bike share, and walked…a lot. From the perspective of a sustainable transportation advocate, we were treated to the complete “nice things” package: fast trains between cities, frequent rail and bus service inside them, and streets catering to human bodies more than SUVs. What surprised me, though, was the way these nice things coexist with growth patterns that look — in structural terms — uncomfortably familiar. In this video

Toward the close of his short letter to Philemon, Paul offers to pay any debt Onesimus may owe Philemon, and adds (ESV), "I, Paul, write this with my own hand: I will repay it—to say nothing of your owing me even your own self." The last words are often viewed as heavy-handed, but are better understood as an instance of paralipsis in which Paul "brings up something without bringing it up." He is employing a tactful approach to mention a delicate matter. Dr Seth Ehorn, an alum of the MA in Biblical Exegesis program at Wheaton Graduate School, is Assistant Professor of Classics and Biblical Languages at Houston Christian University. Among other things, he has published 2 Maccabees 1-7: A Handbook on the Greek Text and 2 Maccabees 8-15: A Handbook on the Greek Text, both in the Baylor Handbook on the Septuagint Series. He is currently working on a commentary on Paul's Letter to Philemon. He has contributed several previous episodes to Exegetically Speaking.

Welcome to the Via Stoica Podcast, the podcast on Stoicism. In today's episode, we explore a simple but powerful December practice: returning to a few meaningful books as a way to reflect, reset, and prepare for the year ahead. This is a time when many people think about change, but the Stoics approached renewal differently. For them, reflection wasn't about waiting for January 1st, it was about using this moment, right now, to strengthen the mind and clarify intention. At the heart of this episode is the idea that reading is not an escape but a form of self-examination. He isn't urging perfectionism, but pointing us toward small, present-moment choices, the kind of choices this yearly reading ritual helps illuminate. Here are a few Stoic practices from this episode you can explore in your own life:• Reflective reading — return to books that ground you, not for new information but to renew your mindset and revisit forgotten insights.• Preparing the mind early — instead of waiting for New Year's resolutions, use December as your mental runway to understand why you want to change.• Examining impressions — pause when you feel pulled toward old habits and ask yourself what belief or expectation sits underneath the impulse.• Daily philosophical reminders — create your own “handbook” of quotes or ideas that steady you when life becomes noisy. This episode is a quiet invitation to step back from the rush of the year and reconnect with what matters. The books Benny discusses — Man's Search for Meaning, Epictetus' Handbook, and Marcus Aurelius' Meditations are not just texts but companions that sharpen attention, deepen gratitude, and restore a sense of direction. By returning to them, we rediscover that Stoicism is not about cold detachment. It is about remembering who we want to be and choosing to live with clarity, courage, and a bit more kindness toward ourselves.Listen to the full episode now and discover how end-of-year reflection can transform the way you think, act, and see your life.Support the show
